I have just received an old laptop from my sister, and had to put a new Hard drive in it as the old one had died. So all going good the Hard drive i could format, then start the installation of windows, until it then begins to state that there are files missing on the disc that it needs for installation. The disc is a legit copy of windows I have purchased and is in good condition with no scratches at all so there is no data missing. further more i installed windows 98 onto it and that was fine... The laptop is not so old as to it wont support XP as it is designed for xp and previously had xp on there.
I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP, I have an HP desktop and no CD so I'm using my i386 folder but I keep getting the error message, "error reading information from netmap.inf". I had a pervious error message about missing the wintupg/netupgrd.dll file and I found the file and created a folder put it in now I get this error message.
Windows XP Pro Problem began today.farlier today, the PC had booted to a disk reading error, using HDD #1, see below.I put in HDD #2 & life was good. When I sign into MyCQU & then launch webmail I first get a message come up that says session timed out log in again, which is ridiculous given that I'm only just logging in then. If I click on the red cross to close that message down my webmail will actually show up BUT if I then want to say compose a message I then either get an error page comes up saying - ERROR. Computers a few years old its a Dell gx110 and it wont start , it will get past the initial loading screen but instead of going to my accounts page a message says that "a disk reading error has occurred" or "cannot find disk drive one" ive tried a few things but nothings worked

i cant copy/cut and paste files higher than a certain number. I can cut and paste other files, folders and in my browser, but say i want to cut 30 notepad files from one folder to another it wont work, i have to vut the files 3 at a time, why is this happening?
my ibm thinpad T21 P3 with win 2000 professional freezes up in "starting windows" screen while in normal startup mode. the blue status bar does not move. the safe mode boot up is okay. please help. it started this a few months back.if i keep trying it may boot sometime (1 in 100 tries appx.) but then after a few hours it freezes.
I have just used ACRONIS True Image to clone WIN XP Pro from an IBM Think pad to a Dell Optiplex desktop.After restoring the image to the Dell - I used the original Dell XP Pro disk to do a Repair install (not recovery console). XP then booted up into the Dell.All works fine and I have not had to re-install any of my applications.However, I am missing my display driver, Power management drivers, etc. So I can't hibernate but the display as it stands works fine.Is there some way of getting these drivers to be recognized or auto detected? I thought Windows would just auto detect them but perhaps because everything is working this step is bypassed.I can always go back and do a restore with my Dell disks but I am trying to avoid re-installing all my apps - the greater task than reinstalling XP.
I am about a 2 or 3 out of 10 on computer knowledge. Lately every time I go to defrag I keep getting: RRUbackupsCOData2 and MANY others similar to it. It ALWAYS says I should defrag but when I do I get thousands of "files" like this that will not defrag. I can tell by the color coded area that there is much that still needs to get done. Lately I have been having an issue with my cursor movements. I have an IBM Thinkpad Z61m. When this intermittent problem happens I cannot move the cursor smoothly across my desktop using either the trackpoint stick, glide pad, or USB mouse. The cursor may move or not move initially, but if it moves it stops as though stuck. I can move it again but invariably it will stick at some point. It makes it very difficult to get the cursor where I want it. I seem to fall short or overshoot. Things I have noticed that may offer a clue: When the "sticky cursor issue is happening I notice (in Task Manager) that my CPU usage is high, like 50% and higher. When this issue is not present it ranghes from zero to maybe 7 per cent.
If I am listening to audio or watching video both will start stuttering. The audio makes sounds like a machine gun, like "dat, dat, dat, dat, dat." I have also seen the blue screen of death warning me that Windows has detected a problem ans is shutting down to prevent damage to my computer. Its hard to remember all that was written on the BSOD, but I seem to recall a reference to IRQ. I use a Sprint Mobile Broadband card (Merlin S720) and thought maybe this device or its software was causing my "sticky" cursor issue, but it doesn't appear to be the culprit since I removed the card and closed the software application.
I have an IBM Thinkpad Z51 that I got through school.It has worked fine until now but now whenever I boot the laptop,it freezes at the password entry screen. I can boot in safemode no problem, but as soon as I enter the first letter of my password in normal mode, the computer freezes. Sometimes, after pressing F8 and using the last known good configurations like 8 times I can finally enter my password

I'm not having any problems with the audio itself,but I just reinstalled XP and before when I would press the volume up/down buttons at the top of the laptop a green bar/scale thing would come up on screen to show me how high/low my volume was. After reinstalling the audio drivers from IBMs website it does not do this anymore
I haveWin XP Home SP2, and an ESS ES56H-PI Data Fax Modem.Unfortunately, over the week-end I completely screwed up my PC when trying to install a Linux O/S, and had to re-install Win XP - which I have successfully done. I am now re-installing my various applications,and have installed Win XP Fax using the same procedure as I used last November (Faxing in Windows XP by Sharon Crawford). Everything seemed to go OK, but when I try to send a fax I get an error message on the Fax Monitor: 'Fax device error'.

ive tried using 2 different type of memory on the m-board and still get the same error. there are no other hardware besides a cdrom and hdisk, mosue and keyboard. i did have an old logitech mouse but swapped that as i read that can cause problems too.
i dont know how to go about fixing this as their is a hotfix for acpi problems but thatr equires u to actually have windows on teh pc in teh first place i.e safe mode.
i can get into bios and it performs POST no problems. the only other thing is it boots fromcdrom but it says no emulation.

When I try to install SP3, after it has downloaded through Auto-update, it gives me internal error, without any codes or anything. Just says installation did not complete.
I�m having many problems during the instalation of microsoft net framework. First of all this occur cause i was trying to install NET FRAMEWORK 3.0 on my computer but the instalation never ended and it give me some errors, so i uninstall every version of the program trying to reinstall them again (i read this may be a solution (i use add/remove programs and a clean up tool specified for removing net framework)), first i try installing 1.0, but a message says that i already have it installed, then 1.1 which i could install fine, then the SP1 for 1.1 says that i need version 2.0.5556 in order to install this service pack, then i try to install 2.0 but an incompatibility error appears referring that i may have installed " framework 2.0 sp1" (wich i don�t), then i try installing 2.0 sp1 but i get a "setup error" nothing else, same when trying with 3.0.
i have try different things like starting/stopping msiexec (on safe mode), installing and removing net framework several times or trying to install IIS (wich i couldn't cause i dont have the original windows cd) as possible solutions, but this problem is driving me crazy! Is there a solution like uninstalling all, installing all again without format? i think it maybe has something to do with file extensions missing, i read something about MSI files, but im not share.
when i try to install msn messenger 7.0, it keeps bringing up an error, saying that Microsoft Windows Journal msi cannot be found. I don't know how that happened but, is there a way i can fix that problem?.

Okay so, i've been trying all night to install SP3 on this thing but every time I get this error "An Internal Error Occurred" and it's driving me crazy. I installed a fresh Windows XP SP2 on it and uninstalled the few updates I did through windows updates. I've cleaned the registry. I've done everything it says to do here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384. I've tried installing it from the Windows updates page, i've tried installing it through Automatic updates and i've even downloaded the full SP3 Package (also tried this in safe-mode). I've read every freaking forum about this error and took their advice. Nothing works........
I recently did a system repair after having problems with Windows starting up, and I need to re-install sp2 for programs such as iTunes to work. When I try running the update wizard, it gets to the 'collecting inventory' (I think that's what it's called) stage, and then stops with an "An Internal Error Occured" message. we installed the Microsoft Fax process on an XP Pro PC. It is setup only to send faxes and works great most of the time. However, every once in awhile, it will stop sending faxes even though there are faxes still showing in the Outbox of the Fax Console and Fax Monitor shows Ready to send. What we do see in the Fax Monitor's more>> window is that the last fax said that the fax did not answer, fax was cancelled after about 5 minutes of sitting there trying and it requeued the fax. It then shows a message of Fax Device Error.There is nothing in the Event Logs showing that there is a device problem. Looking at the Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel show the Fax is Ready.
