Hiding Your System May Be At Risk Message
Feb 21, 2009
The thing constantly appears at the bottom right corner of my screen.I'm not the original PC owner (was second hand) so I'm not sure about the origins of the software. However, I'm not interested, and would like to hide this message. When I visit the site it sends me to, it won't let me select the option to simply hide it.

How do I stop certain system tray icons from hiding? I have tried the properties/customize/always show options but this does not seem to work. Also in this list here are a number of icons that belong to programs that are no longer on my laptop. Is there a way to:
1) edit this list
2) make certain icons always display (e.g. ac/battery) but hide others.

I've been having trouble with popups recently and can't seem to clear them. I updated both Spy Bot S&D and Ad-Aware, and ran some scans in safe-mode and a normal boot. I've also ran scans with Anti Virus which detected a couple of trojans. One of the main problems is a balloon popping up in the system tray (like in XP, although I'm using 2k Pro) telling me "Your computer might be at risk. Your virus protection status is bad. Spyware Activity Detected. Click this balloon to fix this problem". I'm fairly certain this is in fact some sort of spyware itself, and not a function of windows.Anyway, after running all of those scans I'm still having problems,

when I start or restart my computer sometimes pops up an icon in the bottm right corner and a balloon saying my computer is at risk. I open it up and it opens the security center and it says I don't have any virus protection. I do and the one I have is Comodo antivirus. I know windows does not recognise this and I hit recomendations and I check the little box that says I am monitiring this myself. The problem is that in a few days it will pop this up again. Its not a big deal but it just makes me mad that I have to do this.

I have created a folder in February 2009. Inside I have a Compressed (zipped) Folder containing 4 files that can only be opened with a password. Never had any problems until today: When I click on the zipped folder I get the following message: this page has an unspecified potential security risk. Would you like to continue? Of course I click yes and it will open without any problems at all. I also scanned with MacAfee anti virus and it is ok. If I move the all folder with copy/paste to drive D and the problem its gone.
Do you have any ideas?? Maybe happen to you too Yesterday I did tried to move the all DOCUMENTS (from the desktop) to drive D by using the Microsoft facility: right click on the folder-movebut at the end only My Pictures and My Music went on drive D and when I looked on the documents on C was nothing there. At this point I sent everything back (always with Microsoft facility) to the original location and since then I encountered the mentioned problem but all documents are back. And I was told this is so easy to do.

I'm having a problem with how my desktop is displaying in windows XP. Anytime I open a new window, then close it or minimize it to the task bar, the desktop disapears. I have to right click on the taskbar and click on the option to 'show desktop'. This is so friggin annoying and I have no clue how to keep the desk top displaying at all times. I'm sure its an easy fix, but, I am just too frazzled to figure it out at this time.

I´m looking to hide the whole boot sequence, meaning that I don´t want to disable memory tests and other things in the BIOS, just hide it visually.. The same goes for the windows XP boot screen.. I want to keep it all from being displayed; only let it run in the background and just display things when the system is up and running..
Any tips or links for this?

An easy way to hide the Recycle Bin is just to create two .reg files.... open your notepad and copy and paste the listing below and save it as Hidebin.reg and click the .reg file to enter it into the registry. You have to refresh the desktop to see the changes.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerHideDesktopIcons]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerHideDesktopIconsClassicStartMenu]"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerHideDesktopIconsNewStartPanel]"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001
To bring back the Recycle Bin, open notepad and copy and paste the listing below and save it as Showbin.reg and click the .reg file to enter it into the registry, once again refresh the desktop to see the changes.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to hide the attributes of a file, without hiding the file itself. I've got a file in a folder, and even if I set the advanced security properties so that the 'Read Attributes' permission is denied, anyone with access to the folder can still see the access times etc

solution for hiding file extensions for known file types... even after reboot? I know nobody likes to hide them, but I do and I have tried EVERYTHING! I have checked it under Folder Options, I have tried setting it in my registry, I have increased BagMRU Size to 8000+, I have even tried silly batch files suggested through web page research and no matter what I do windows xp pro will never remember the setting after reboot and show the extensions. Is there anyway to fix this annoying problem so what I set in folder options or in my registry remains as I have set it after reboot.

Last night I got my old ( sitting in closet 18 mos ) e-machines out of my closet, set it up and turned it on. Worked fine. I wanted to install Linux to learn something new. I ran defrag and then went to do error checking on the disk ( C drive ) Halfway thru everything died. I got a message ' No operating system. I have the restore CD's ( 2 ) that came with the machine and tried to get them to boot the machine with no luck I never made an emergency boot disk. (I made the CD drive the boot drive ) I have a Ubuntu live CD but that would not boot either ( If I end up with only Linux w?o windows that's fine. )

This error comes up no matter how I try to boot my Computer.Disable or uninstall any anti viruse, disk defragmanation or backup utilities... Then it goes on like that, and the technical information: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE 0xF7CDE6DC 0xF7CDE3D8 0xF731BF81) It started happening after I ran the new AVG Free 8.0 virus scanner. So maybe that's the problem? So far I haven't been able to even run in safe mode to disable it.

In the last couple of weeksI have been getting the following message:
"Please wait while checking system configuration" - in a pale blue box at startup. It sits on the top of all programs and will not turn off, even after a couple of hours, The rest of the operations work ok.
I have read an old thread on this in the forum, but it was never answered to my satisfaction, so I am asking again.

I'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition on my computer to replace Windows Vista but have a problem. After booting from the CD Windows setup happily inspects the hardware etc etc but upon the Message 'Windows is starting up' I am confronted by a BSOD and Error message 0x0000007b. Windows Vista currently runs fine and reports no problems with any hardware. I tried booting up a Linux distro and it did this quite hapily. Any workarounds for this situation? Is there a BIOS option i should be looking at changing or is my hardware too new for Win XP

My friend goes to college and is home for the holidays and asked me if I could find out what is wrong with his laptop.First you turn it on and there is a constant clciking noise but that I don't think is the main problem. when you turn it on it doesnt boot it goes right to a black screen with whitle letters and says this Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key Could I person put in an xp pro system disk and boot with that? He isn't home right now and I don't know if it is xp home or pro but I have a pro disk, it has not got a floppy drive so can't use floppies to boot with, So can I set the BIOS to boot from the cd-rom and try the xp pro disk? and if so what do I do after it boots? or can I click on I think it is F10 when starting and see if I can get to system recovery? and if so what do I do after I get there?
