View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this counts as a hardware or software problem, sorry if I've posted it in the wrong forum.
My parents have an acer laptop, it is about 3 years old, it has a centrino 1.6, 256mb ram, 40GB HD, CDRW and windows XP.
it was working perfectly, and when last used it shut down normally. However on trying to boot it up today it gets to a screen that says load error! "Press any key to reboot"however when pressing a key it just displays the load error message again and seems stuck in a loop.
This happens only a couple of seconds into the boot sequence, the screen immediately before the error screen gives the following information:
Base Memory xxxxx
Extended memory xxxxx
Total memory xxxxxx
Auto detecting IDE device
Primary master xxxxxx
Secondary master
Insyde ACPI bios initialised
At the bottom of the screen it says Press F2 to enter system configuration
If I press F2 at that point I get into the BIOS.
I did not know what to do, I wondered whether Windows had been corrupted so decided to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows using the recovery CDs supplied with Acer.
After going into the BIOS to change to boot device to the CD drive, the clean reinstall seemed to go well, everything progressed, as normal and every thing seemed to being reinstalled. I was optimistic that all would be well.
However, on rebooting after the reinstall I got the same error message as I had done before. (I had changed the boot device to drive C)
I tried doing a full reinstall again, though of coarse it did not help, and right now I dont have a clue how to progess in trying to solve the problem.
I recently got a virus called Backdoor.Graybird but i already deleted it.And my com is still weird. And while opening games and stuff. They don't seem to work.

View 14 Replies View RelatedPC is left on pretty much all the time. Whenever I have to restart it for whatever reason it restarts normally, loading XP relatively quickly. However, if I have to shut it down for even a few minutes, Windows will typically fail to load most of the time. Usually it will hang on the black screen with the white progress bar, or sometimes on the loading xp screen. At this point it will sometimes start up when I reset it, or it will show the "Windows failed to load normally" screen. If I then start in safemode then restart it usually works, or even if I choose "start windows normally". I'm not sure if this is a driver or hardware/bios issue, I have reformatted once, and restored the OS using my XP disk a couple of times but the problem persists. I keep most of my drivers up to date. Tools like Sandra don't report any major errors (from what I understand anyway). I have just ordered new RAM, as I thought this would sort the issue, but it hasnt. I have to run my memory at 100hz so it will boot without any problems . If I run my processor at 200fsb then the computer doesn't boot and it doesn't start.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI come across very strange problem. Last week my machine running XP Home was infected by 'Boot.Mebroot' virus which curropted my boot configurations and my machine was getting restarted upon loading windows. I tried all the options but no use. Then I re-install (Upgraded to) XP Professional with complete installation without reformat and updated to latest SP3. It went fine, I ran Symantec and found the bugger and kicked off from my machine. Then I started Windows Live update as I want to bring my PC to latest patches. All the updates got installed without an error (about 58 updates most of them were security update, SP3 and IE8). As soon as I restart my machine it shows the same behaivour. It get restarted. I Repaired my XP professional three time now.
Why I am accusing MS XP Update for all this because Last night everything was running absolutly perfect, I started the update it showed me 58 updates. All update gone successfully. After finishing the the updates I simply restarted my machine and it failed again and restarting again and again. It shows me F8 boot options and I tried all but same. So I repaired this morning again. I tried the 'fixmbr' command in recovery console and it displays the dangerous message that 'This machine boot have some problem' but if you ruin FIXMBR you might loose the partition and stuff so I didn't run it as I have very important data on my disk.
i had this problem before and it somehow magically fixed itself, unfortunately it failed to do the same for me this time. dont really no how to describe it, it "loads" windows xp then diesthe screen works and everything seems to be plugged in correctly is this problem due to lack of memory.

Does any body know how to replace the original dll? I tried to run a system recovery on my laptop but I dont know the keys to use.
He is running xp pro and when we start the computer up this is the message we recieve - User interface failure. The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL. I found this at Microsoft.com http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836683/ and followed the instructions, but when we go to last known good configuration, we recieve the original message again. I've tried to boot in safe mode, and recieve the same message. I searched the forum and found similar cases, except that he does not have a recovery disc. He doesn't know whether the system restore was enabled.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTo start, when I try to play an .avi file, real player and windows media player both encounter a fatal error. Thinking there may have been a windows update I went to update.microsoft.com to get updates. I was able to download all of the updates, but I could not install any of them. I tried to install them via express and custom updates on the website, via automatic updates, and virtually every other method I could think of. After researching the problem I came across similar problems with an array of solutions, including trying in safe mode, running sfc /scannow, uninstalling and reinstalling .net, shutting off and turning back on both automatic updates and cryptographic services, changing .dll files (lccwiz & pidgen), renaming the Software Distribution folder, downloading one update at a time, and other things that I can't even begin to think of at this moment, obviously with no success, as well as running SpyBot, AdAware, and Norton.
View 4 Replies View Relatedpc was very stable until I introduced new replacement tv card After a system freeze caused by a new pinnacle tv tuner I had to do a hard reset ( press power button for 4 secs ) When the system rebooted it stuck on the post screen, it auto detects my hardware and then stops. After about half an hour it moves on to the next bios screen (which would normally only show up for a second or two during boot up) and then stayed on that screen for 16 - 24 hours.I gave up, left it running & went to sleep (still displaying the same screen in the morning) & then work the next day. I came home from work to find the windows welcome screen on my monitor!!?? But on rebooting it takes nearly 24 hours to start up
View 2 Replies View Relatedi had XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message; STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
My computer randomly started displaying this error upon start up a week ago and I have no clue what is causing it. I googled it and seen that it could be caused by a linksys wireless router, one was installed on the system before, but has been uninstalled for quite some time now. Can anyone help me correct this or at least help me figure out what is causing it?

I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.

View 14 Replies View RelatedJust bought a pre-owned Dell Inspiron 6000D, running XP. On first power-up, after what appears to be a normal boot-up, it displays a message window headed "lsass.exe System error". The error description says, "When trying to update a password this return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is incorrect." It never asks for a password to be entered, so this is puzzling.
