Get Rid Of The Previous Install And Load New Legit Version

Aug 19, 2006

I installed Windows XP on my computer, but since it wasn't a legit version, I did not activate it using the phone or the internet options. Now that I have a new, legit Windows XP CD, I need you guys to help me get rid of the previous installs on my hard drive and install this new CD. When I start the computer with the New CD in the CD tray, it doesn't load it, it just goes to asking if you would like to activate windows. So how am i supposed to install the new CD?Or can I activate an un-legit copy of windows using a legit License key?

Updating Java Wont Allow To Remove Previous Version?

Dec 15, 2009

On my husband's computer windows xp SP2 I wanted to update Java to 6 version 1.7 so I tried to remove 6 version 15 but it wouldn't do anything. No error just wouldn't remove. So I removed it with windows installer cleanup utility. Then I downloaded the new version and it's not in add and remove programs. So I was going to remove it and re install it and I can't find it in the windows cleanup or in cc cleaner to remove it. I clicked on the coffee cup in the control panel and it says he has the newest version.

Installing OEM Version: Impacts Of Clean OEM Home Install?

Jul 13, 2005

I understand that if I install an OEM version it will be a new installation (not an upgrade) and all data files and programs will be wiped clean as part of the installation (step one is formatting the hard drive). I'm okay with that, because I have files on other machines and reinstall any programs that I need My question is reference to drivers being deleted and needing to be reinstalled. I'm not as familiar on the driver issue. Does this mean that most of the peripherals I currently have under Win2000 will not work with the initial installation of XP and I'll have to seek out drivers for these items (wireless NIC, dvd-rom, cd-rw, second HD?

Can Install Pro Upgrade (student / Academic Version) On SATA

Jan 6, 2006

I just want to verify I can install windows XP Pro upgrade (student/academic version) on a new 200GB SATA drive. The sata drive will be the only HDD in the desktop PC, I will insert the XP disc and boot from it; at some time I will have to press F6 and insert a floppy with drivers for the SATA drive. And as this is a upgrade version I need to supply another version of windows; so I can put in an old Windows98 disc. Is that right or do I have to install windows 98 first then XP and if so I do I install 98 on a sata drive?

I am getting the student version of Windows cause you save like $120 dollars; but there is nothing different from a normal Windows XP pro is there? I was planning on installing Visual Studio .net and MS SQL on this computer; I will be able to do this right (I know windows XP home does not have IIS so some elements do not work in VS if on a home version; but the student version has IIS right?) Sorry if this has been answered millions of times, hope you can understand my bad english this late at night

Unable To Re-install Operating System While Having Newer Version?

Jan 4, 2007

I have an old dell that had windows ME on it (yuck) About 3 years ago, I upgraded to XP and installed service pack 2. Since then I have set up 2 laptops, broadband and a wireless network. But the old dell in the office (the main one that the high speed modem and linksys is plugged into) needs to have the operating system re-installed again. It has reached its half life...a nuisance, a pain, unbearable, unusable! When I tried to re-install it wouldnt let me because the version on the computer is a newer version then the one on the disk.

Won't Load / Install On Dell With Vista

May 30, 2007

Dell Dimension E520.The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management. When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

Changing Previous Owners Name

Feb 17, 2007

As most know,I work at a pawn shop cleaning up bought computers, or those that were lost in pawn, for resale. One of the many things that I do, since I can't reinstall but rather have to work with what comes on the machine, is eliminate all accounts but one administrators account which I typically name "owner." To keep these machines safe from mischievious children and other would-be "messer-upers" on the sales floor, I password protect the screen saver. This also provides an opportunity for the salesperson to get involved. Anyway, when the password window opens, it still has the former owners namethe registererin that window. Isn't there a line in the registry listing that name? Can this be edited in the registry.
