View 4 RepliesI am trying to extract a folder and it's contents from a Windows backup I performed several months ago. For example, I created a specific folder that for some reason no longer exists in My Documents. I have tried applications that allow me to "Undelete" what may have been sent to the Recycle Bin but these did not help. I am confident this folder and it's files are on the backup.bkf.I have also tried shareware backup applications, but they all seem to RESTORE corrupt files? Is there any application that would allow me to see what folders are on the backup.bkf? In running the Windows Backup Wizard, all I can see is a file called System State, but no option to expand the backup to see what files and folders exist.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of backing up a lot of DVD files, some of which are very large. First I extract the information from one DVD, then burn it onto a new one. After I'm done filling up a new DVD, I then delete all the information from my computer. In all, I'll end up with around 50 DVDs. In case I have to do System Restore sometime, I've been creating a new restore point after completing around five DVDs so my computer, if in that situation, won't have to restore a lot of files I don't need anymore. This is creating a lot of restore points and my question is: am I doing the right thing? Will creating all these restore points cause some sort of problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a HP a year or two ago and it doesnt have any recovery CD's but a recovery partition on the hard drive. Everytime I recover my system it recovers the OS with all of the junk trial software. I'm just wondering if there is anyway to extract just XP from that partition so that next time I have to recover I don't have to spend hours uninstalling and deleting all that junk. That partition is filled up with over 6gb of of stuff...XP fits on a cingle CD so you can imagine how much crap I have to put up with.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI reecently installed Vista on my computer to try it out and after a few weeks wanted to change back to XP Pro as has some things i did not like.
Here's what i did:
1. I booted into BIOS and changed the bootup to cd/dvd.
2. Booted with my Original CP PRO cd (Not bought with my computer bought after).
3. followed the instructions and deleted the partition on C and formatted (Full not Quick) the C: drive with NTFS.
It gets to the stage that the SETUP is copying files and after 43% and says it cannot copy file WOWEB.exe and to press Esc to skip, F3 to QUIT and ENTER to try again.
It does this with a whole lot of files (Over 30) then after skipping thise files it reboots and gets the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!.
I have 2 DVD drives and tried both with the same result. I tried a differant Windows XP disk with the same results.
The motherboard has a backup facility which i had backed up previously with XP but not fully and can restore to that point but i want a complete reinstall.
I have formatted and installed windows XP with that disc loads of times without any problems before.
what should i do?
I have a prob

I am reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP Home in my dell inspiron 600m and I got the following error during the installation:
Setup cannot copy the file vga.dll.
Anyone know how to fix it? What happens if I choose to ignore the warning and install the Windows anyway?
I am using Windows XP Professional, service pack 1 is installed. A few days ago the PC would not boot up. I had to reinstall Win XP Pro. All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows. How can i figure it out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHad to reformat my drive and now whenever i use my win xp sp2 install disc...i first format the drive and create the proper partition..the windows disc then starts copying files to the computer but at a point i get an error message saying that windows setup cannot copy the file...and it tells me which file. I redid this several times and each time at a some point in the copying it gives me this error...each time with a different file name
What should i do at this stage?
I've got a message popped up that says I need to install XP service pack 3.
I let it install, but it gets stcuk on the following error:
"Setup cannot copy the file wscsvc.dll"
It gives the path for the file as:
c:windowssystem32
I've checked in the path and the file definitely exists.
The message below the error says:
"Ensure that the location specifield below is correct, or change it and insert 'Windows XP System Files'in the drive you specify"
This message does not make much sense to me.
Is there a particular application running that could be stopping access to this file?
I've tried closing down all applications: but still no joy.
What am I doing wrong?
i am trying to install windows xp pro (sp2) on my new pc but i get this message:

My mainboard is an Asrock AOD790GX/128MI am trying to set up a fresh install of windows XP pro SP3 on a single hard drive.I don’t want the RAID feature just the AHCI.I have set OnChip “SATA Operation Mode” option to AHCI and connected my HD to the SATA1 port and my DVD drive to SATA4 port.I have made a floppy disc with the AHCI driver “AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller- x86 platform” for xp from the included mainboard CD. The only driver present although I don’t need RAID I have booted my computer with my windows XP CD in. Then pressed F6 when prompted. I then put my floppy disc in with the driver on and press "S" I then select "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller-x86 platform" and press enter.

Two computers running windows xp professional and each computer has 3 different NIC cards. 1 wireless, 1 wired through switch and 1 wired directly. I used the network setup wizard to configure file sharing however neither computer can see the other's shared folders. The only firewall running is the default windows firewall. I suspect it has something to do with the different NIC cards and it is trying to find shared folders using the wireless as opposed to through the LAN.

Over the last week on this laptop i've had lockups and freezes.Thought i'd try using WinsockxpFix.I'd ran out of discs so just backed up everything important to My Docs.Downloaded and ran the fix and had the message to create a registry backup...then another message saying the directory to store a registry backup to didn't exist did i want to create it.i clicked yes and had the message that all the files could not be deleted.Didn't understand that so i just cancelled the fix and exited. Now My Docs are completely empty...everything has gone! they are not in the recycle bin either...have restored back to the earliest point i can but still My Docs folder is empty. Is there an app to recover these with...is there anything i can do...there's weeks of course work there.
