So I was surfing the net, when I got the dreaded BSOD, so I restarted my machine, and the flash screen cameup okay, at first, after the flash screen, it was saying
"Loading descriptor for PBR 2...done Disk Read error Press control, alt, delete ro restar now it is saying"Loading descriptor for PBR 4...done
My dads pc was fine then all of the sudden it just restarted.And it came up to the options:restart in safe mode estart in safemode with networking estart in safe mode with networking Last known working config Normal But when he tries any of them.. None of them work The windows loading screen will come up flash a blue screen super fast (cannot read it no matter how hard i try) then go back to boot option screen.

The very next day, when I went to use it, all I got was the WindowsXP splash screen indicating that the system was loading. However, that's as far as the operating system would go. I can only use the computer in Safe mode. I have all the backup & resource CDs. Is there anything I can do besides a full restore. What do I do first? This is a WindowsXP Pro MCE2005 operating system.

Just before this happened, I booted up and the screen froze on the desktop, flashing some distorted lines across the center of the screen. I have tried rebooting multiple times and running diagnostics, but nothing appeared wrong. I'm going to assume its virus related.
View 4 Replies View Relatedbooting my cpu because it hangs at the loading screen. I have read a lot of posts but none of them help because I can't get the cpu in safe mode. I have tried all the options and all kinds of boot disks.It won't let me use my keyboard to highlight any of the options where it says windows had problems loading and gives several options like safe mode or last good config. The keyboard will let me into the bios but after that it won't work. f8 won't take me to safe mode and it won't boot to the cd either. I had this problem once a few weeks back but I created a boot disk and after I booted from that for several times it started booting on it's own. I got the boot disk from a web site but it wasn't an xp boot disk.(i think it was an 98se or me disk) Well of course now either I have lost the disk or it just won't work anymore. I need to find a way to at least boot it long enough to get the data off. the file system is ntfs and I am using windows xp pro.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy brother's computer froze so the only way i knew to turn it off was to uplug the power.. I did that and ever since then i cannot get the computer to boot up all the way it just gets stuck on the xp loading screen.. Ive tried starting in safe mode, normal mode, and "last know configuration that worked" mode.. When i boot from my boot disk i get into the window's console, i try and choose the repair option, when it lets me do this it asks for a "administrator password", i dont remeber using one when i installed windows. I know the "quick" fix is to do a complete reformat and install, but my brother has alot of work files that he does not want to loose. This is my brother's computer, i always make a backup disk of my files for this reason.. but he didnt so im stuck betweena rock and a hard place.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing a game last night (a legit game) and it freezes, so I restart and get the whole "Sorry for the inconvenience windows shut down to protect files on your computer" screen and it asks me how i want to boot up XP, either in the safe modes or Last known good congifuration or start windows normally, so i use last known and the windows loading screen comes up and the blue bar is passing by normally, but it goes for a very long tiem and eventually freezes and I have to restart. It also does this whenever I choose any other way up booting XP too. I've taken my computer apart, cleaned it, unplugged everything and plugged everything back in, read justed the harddrive and NOTHIGN works. It still gives me the frozen windows loading screen. Is there ANYTHING I can do to solve this problem short from hooking my hard drive up to another computer and seeing what's wrong from there?

Original problem was BSOD so now i wish to do a clean install but unable to enter the bios to set PC to boot from CDrom. Got into safe mode once but it freezes. I piggy back the HD to another pc, did a virus/malware clean then defragged and clean the hd. Now i am ready for a fresh install but cannot get pass the dell screen. I tried 4 keyboards but still the same. The dell screen shows the F2=SETUP, f12 = Boot menu and Bios revision 1.0.10.

I have not added any new hardware or software or any drivers recently. I can not start in safe mode. I have run windows XP home edition setup from the Dell XP installation disc. when I select either enter to setup windows XP or R to repair using the Recovery Console, I do not ger very far before I again get the blue screen message.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIf this has been addressed in the forums; then apologies all around. I have a Dell Latitude L400. The HDD has been low level formatted and is clean, I also know it to be fully operational, It won't boot from the USB port, so there is no hope of loading XP back onto it through a usb dvd drive. I have read that there is a docking port adapter for this thing, but the cost of finding one; well, you do the math. I have tried repeatedly to 'preload' DOS or even XP to no avail. Call it Karma or stupidity, but I simply can not find a definitive answer as to how to get anything onto the laptop drive stable enough to get Xp to load normally. Forget the preloading from another computer because all it does is 'windows' logo and then blue screen, so that's out. and no amount of bios jocky-ing is going to do it either. And just to be redundant, this isn't a netbook or current technology that recognizes booting from the usb port, so we can skip that too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows XP I constanly have problems trying to download anything; 1st a little box will flash on the screen ;It flashes so fast I cant read it; Then about 5 minutes later the download will appear; But if I try to download anything large the computer will say downloading but then after a long time a screen appears and says time for this download has expired;??? Now I am running a registry cleaner and evryday it finds at least 50 errors. I am old and try to understand but I am having no luck. On the windows clean up tool there are about 50 items and some one told me there should only be 1 item that is running in that box.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed 2 different operating systems (xp and vista) on my hard drive on seperate partitions without flagging 1 of them to boot (aka it doesnt boot at all.) I want to completely format the hole thing and just put xp on the 1 hard drive with no partitions.
My problem is that my computers CD drive has broken and it does not have a floppy drive, I want to know if theres any way i can boot a program from a USB flash drive to completely format both partitions so i can install xp (I already know how to boot xp off a USB flash drive.
I've been trying to solve this for a few days now and I'm not having any luck. I don't have access to a PC running a windows OS or I'd just set up the flash drive there.

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.
It happened when I updated my motherboard Bios (Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI ,Rev. 1.0) through the original vendor's Website
I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

My biggest worry of all is all the kids photo's and video clips I have saved on the PC and about 2 years ago my PC crashed due to a problem with the hard drive and we lost all our memories.

As a temporary fix I always uninstall the Unknown Device every time the Blue Screen Of Death forces me to restart, which buys me an extra 45 minutes or so of laptop time, but every time I am eventually but inevitably forced to restart, I got back to the Device Manager and lo and behold the Unknown Device has returned, along with a prompt on my desktop to Install New Hardware.
