monitor stays yellow.I have to plug and unplug to actually boot and it is slow. Last week I couldn't shut off computer, because spysweeper and other programs were not responding, I had to cancel programs for computer to shut off.I thought it was virus because 1 month ago I allowed communication when prompted from Norton that suspicious malicous activity possible if I continue , I was trying to download my picture onto a website. I ran a scan and it was clean. I called Norton and they said to deactivate spysweeper and it would take care of the boot problem.
I have an optical mouse on a Dell 8400 running x/p pro. The last two weeks my mouse keeps freezing for no apparent reason. I keep hearing my machine make the tone that it uses for a usb device to be plugged and unplugged through out the day for no reason, and the usb mouse just either responds erratically or freezes altogether. I then need to unplug and replug it to make it function again.
I have already tried virus scans, with no result, updated the bios, and received a usb driver hotfix from microsoft, but non of these have remedied the issue. This is a new issue on a 2 year old machine so I can only deduce there is some type of virus or worm running that I can't locate.I have already tried the mouse on another machine it functions correctly, and it is clean, with no optical issues.
I have just upgraded one of my old Windows 98SE computers to XP Pro. The installation went well. But, for some reason now after I shutdown the computer in order for me to turn it back on I have to unplug it from the power supply and then plug it back in. Before i upgraded the computer I was already having a shutdown problem with Windows 98SE.Every time that I would shutdown, it would restart on its own.I tried to trouble shoot the problem.I even downloaded a patch from the Microsoft Website but it still didn't work.So i figured if i upgraded it to XP it would solve the problem, but I ended up with a different problem.

So first of all, I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with Windows XP Home SP3. Some background info that may or may not be relevant: I just had this OS installed though the computer is several years old (I had an ingenuine XP Pro before I cleared my C drive and installed a genuine XP Home). The XP installed was SP1 and then I did all the WUDs up to now I where I have SP3. Also, during that period, I had done a repair install because of some error I was getting following installation of a WUD. I don't know if any of that will be relevant at all, but just thought I should mention it.
I get this BSOD any time I unplug my laptop. It says, "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. .....
I want to unplug everything from the existing mother board, remove it, and slide in a new mother board, reconnect everything, boot from the Win XP CD, do a repair and take off running without having to re-install all the application programs. Will this work, or do I have do do a completely new install of XP and reinstall all the applications
I have an XP Machine at home with an ASUS motherboard, XP Athlone +2000 Cpu and 512mb Ram. The problem is everytime I unplug my pc from the wall socket it resets the BIOS and when I plug it back in I first need to setup the BIOS. I have replaced the CMOS battery but it still does the same thing.
My computer was freezing and I went thru the processes running on my computer and i saw that explorer was taking up a lot of memory, and I assumed that it was internet explorer which i wasn't using, so i ended the process. The desktop blanked out, so i turned off my computer and turned it back on. Here lies the problem, my computer won't start! All my monitor is getting is blackness, and if i turn off the monitor and reopen it says no signal.
When I was installing Windows XP SP3 on this computer, I received a notice that the installer couldn't find a specific file, but I was able to skip over it and resume installation. I received this notice when I installed Windows on another machine but this time looked it up and was able to find the file on the CD (don't remember the file name.). On the first computer, it seems like a lot of plug and play functionality doesn't work..specifically when I hook up my Creative Zen (MP3 player) or even Blackberry. I am unable to transfer files to or from these devices through Explorer like I can the other computer in which I did a thorough installation of Windows. I am also unable to update Windows Media Player, which could or could not be related. Is it possible the file I skipped over is what's causing this issue? Is there any way I can repair Windows or do I have to re-install?
My WMP (v11) has strated toc crash whenever I plug a memory stick or my MP3 player.I have loaded a Hotfix that's supposed to address this problem but it's still there.
Have finally reinstalled XP Home and everything is looking good (fingers crossed). The only problem I have is when I boot the pc up and the log on window comes up, I have the message below my name that I have 125 unread messages, I have double checked and I have not got any unread messages at all.
Computer blue screens with no specific error msg and everytime i try to do pretty much anything with safe mode regular mode last known good configurations but here is it blue screens off of two different windows xp pro install cds. I ran several of their debugin tests that came up clean although there was an error about the cpu fan speed. The tech support guy said that i need to wipe the hard drive. I have tried booting with only one of the two ram chips and that didn't help at all.
Having a problem with my friends personal computer. He has a Fujitsu Siemens 'Cordant' Personal Computer which was not booting up at all. I managed to fix this and install the xp home recovery disk that came with the personal computer. Unfortunately he now needs XP Pro which hangs at "press any key to boot from cd" when i put it in his machine. The cd itself is in perfect working order and will boot on other computers. All hardware is fine as XP home installed fine and when i try to press enter to boot from cd, the computer makes a beeping noise so the keyboard is recognized.
I recently installed windows Xp and SP2. But now when I plug a device into a USB port I don't get the pop up saying "detected new hardware". Also the new device (I pluged in a flash memory drive) doesn't show up when I open "my computer". I think the ports are working cause when I pluged in my iPod and then went into the BIOS the iPOd was listed as an option on the Boot configuration.
I recently had to uninstall my HP Officejet 5610. When I reinstalled my USB connection, an error screen tells me "the required section was not found in the INF." HP's diagnostic confirmed that the usb.inf file was in place but that the system was not accessing it, probably due to a digital signature issue. They said to reformat and reinstall WIN! I'm not techno savy to proceed, but a Windows reinstall seems extreme.
Just recently when I plug in the USB plug for my steering wheel, the cursor either vanishes or freezes. It never used to do that before.I was led to believe, some time ago, that you don't need to power down to insert a USB plug. Can anyone tell me why *all of a sudden* (last 3 - 4 weeks) this is happening? I'm running Windows XP home with a P4 speed 2.4 gHz and a healthy 1 GB RAM. I suppose this begs the question: what can I do about it? (besides leaving the USB plug in!
his roomate completey ruined the OS it wouldnt even boot to windows, It had a missing NTDLR, using a windows bootdisk I was able to reformat it and reload windows. Here is the odd part, the NTDLR.com and the NTDLR files are all in the root directory, andit still doesnt boot to windows without the startup disk, when I boot it up it says non bootable disk or non system disk then trys the CD roms then the floppy, yet i put the floppy disk in there and it magically works, and the files on the boot disk are the same as the files in the HD's root directory. So now I'm thinking something is wrong with the HardDrive not the NTDLR. I plugged another Hard Drive I had lying around with windows on it and made it the slave drive, and it worked fine, i could select both versions of windows(each 1 installation per disc) and the would both load, so Is there something before the NTDLR.
I live with went on a rampage and felt like throwing my desktop around. Anyways, when I go to boot it up and use the Boot disc (XP Home Edition) It goes through but says it can't find the hard drive. Can someone please tell me how to fix this. I know how to open the case of my computer and everything.
Hoping someone can help. Just reformated my hard drive and since then, everytime I boot up, it asks which OS I want to uses, Windows XP Media Centre or Windows 2003. Don't understand since I have only one system (Media Ctr). Aslo, there is only one HD in my computer and it is not partitioned.
i have a subscriptction to sirius sat radio and when i go to their web site and click the listen button....it will open and polay with no problems. the problem i am having is at the top it tell me missing plug ins. it will not show the song i am listning to or show the song i have already listened to like it is suppose to. i have clicked the button that says install missing plug ins but then it says nothing found.
I'm running on a e-machine T6520 MediaCenter PC. The system hangs up almost everyday.I have to pull the plug to shutdown just like the old days. Is their a methos for me to use to search out the problem cause?
I would like to understand some of the settings on my AMI BIOS v02.58 plus get suggestions on the recommended settings for my XP Home SP2 system (ASUS P5K3 mobo with INTEL Core 2 Duo E6850/3.0/4MB, RAM 2GB/DDR3/PC3-8500):1. Advanced / PCIPnP / Plug And Play O/S: Settings are NO (default) and YES NO = Lets the BIOS configure all the devices in the system. YES = Lets the OS configure PnP devices not required for boot if your system has a PnP OS.Should I leave the default NO setting or change it to YES and why?
I'm currently running windows XP Pro on one Hard drive. I also have second hard drive which has some data in it but not plug in to my system right now. Is it possible that i can plug in my second hard drive as slave (by jumper setting) without turning off my computer, and beable to see and transfer data from my second hard drive to my first hard drive. Is it safe and possible to do that?
I installed a new hard drive, the only drive, in my computer and installed XP pro. There was a card reader in the computer which was assigned c drive and the local drive was assigned h on the disk. I disconcected the card reader and changed the local disk to c from h in the registery. Now when I turn on the computer the blue screen introducing XP comes on and goes no farther.
Every 3-4days my computer would freeze up while booting up at windows XP screen and scroll bars would freeze. What bohers me about this is i am sure what could be causing this. I use avg as my antivirus, and run A2, spybot, regcleaner, tweaknow on a weekly basis. I keep my system really clean, so now i am wondering is it my HD. PC: Win XP-PRO, 800MHZ AMD Athlon, 1024mb,80gHD. I did what cleaning i could in safemode, it still freeze on scroll bars. I tried last good config, result is the same. The last time i got pass the freezing was by doing a restore.
This computer stopped booting. It would freeze in the process. Since there was nothing on the hard drive worth saving, I used the recovery boot cd. It went though the process, rebooted, and returned to the setup process. In the middle of the setup, while installing devices, the computer froze again. I have tried repeating the process to no avail. I have tried turning off some of the not so necessary things in the BIOS and trying it.
I have a Compaq Presario 900 which doesn't have a working CDrom drive.I took my harddrive out and put it in my friends Dell Inspiron B130 and installed Windows xp SP2. Now that all works fine but(there is always a but ....) when I tried to put the harddrive back into my laptop(Presario 900) Windows will not boot, even if I go to safemode first thing. I thought maybe I could install Windows from the USB port but my BIOS doesn't have a BOOT FROM USB option. Also there is no Bios update that will give me that option.I have tried deleting and installing all the drivers for the Presario then trying to boot like that but it still gets stuck.
