I opened up task manager and ran regedit and then went through the register into image file execution options but there was no Explorer.exe option there and no debugger thing to delete.
View 6 RepliesWhen i browse to certain directories, mainly ones with video files, i get the following "Data Execution Prevention - Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried disabling DEP for windows explorer and now i dont get the DEP message, but i still get "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've had a similar problem with my old computer where certain video files would cause windows explorer to crash, and i believe the same thing is happening here except that my new CPU uses the DEP feature.
View 25 Replies View RelatedWindows XP Home, version 2002, SP2. Windows explorer will not find files that I can navigate to. Since I can navigate to them I know they exist. I'm looking for heart rate monitor files using .hrm as the search term and WE says it can't find any files. I can go to C:/program files etc. and get to the files. File formats are xxxxxx.hrm, with xxxxxx being the date. Searching for .hrm on my laptop finds all of the files with no problem.

I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. This is only SOME exe's. Particularly, older programs. Word, excel, WordPerfect all work. Older apps don't.

I'm trying to set a default view for Windows Explorer but everytime I make my changes Windows doesn't seem to save the settings. I would like Windows Explorer to open with the Explorer Bar on the left with Folder view as the default. I've tried saving the view under options but this doesn't seem to work. If I close Windows Explorer it just goes back to the default view before I made my changes. Also is there a way to have Windows Explorer default to a certain directory?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with XP in that if I right click on a file the drop-down options appear and if I move down to select an option mostly I get a warning that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I click Debug but then get a Warning that DrWatson debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close as well. On the right click drop-down there is an option "Open with Videozilla". I have a hunch that this may have something to do with the problem because it is mostly when this is highlighted in navigating down the options that the problem occurs.
I searched all files for "zilla" and only remnants of Mozilla were found, which I removed. No Videozilla files were found. When the mouse hits Videozilla the folder closes, all icons on desktop disappear for a few seconds as if the PC was resetting. It does not crash but is infuriating. Anybody else ever experience something similar? I could be barking up the wrong tree blaming Videozilla.

Now whenever I go to open a folder, it opens a new window for that folder, even though [Folder Options] is set to browse in one window. And I have tried EVERYTHING, and know the only possible solution is to set the paramaters for [File Types].

I can get into the settings and change them to allow programs such as firefox and internet explorer but once I've closed the window, DEP has decided it's not safe again.
When I right click a file, windows explorer crashes and then recovers.
Right clicking on a folder works OK.
My OS is Windows 2000 Professional.
I have a Compaq running windows XP SP2 with the latest updates. For about a week now when you start windows and login as a user or administrator and even safe mode explorer crashes as soon as it starts and every time you try to restart explorer it crashes again. I can do ctrl-alt-del an start a new task other than explorer and the task works just fine but explorer will not work. I've ran anti-virus and spy-ware software and found nothing. I've removed all software that isn't a Microsoft product and still no luck. I would just reinstall windows but I can't find the CD.

Since then I've started receiving error messages, primarily when starting or restarting my computer. I'm wondering whether I deleted some OS system files. Every time I try a message pops up that reads Data Execution Prevention. When I close the window it asks me either to send message or it reads Dr Watson Postmortern Debugger. Then it will either completly seize up or do a quick explorer reboot where all the icons and task bar will disapear and then reapear. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago

my computer is weird to the max....here are some problems just to name a few: when running random programs, i get fatal execution errors, i get messages asking to debug random apllications or terminate them, i get messages to just terminate things, i get messages that start coming up whenever i try and open something and whatever i try and open it says it has to close....sometimes my whole screen turns blue with white typewriter font saying i have hit a problem and i need to shut down (blah blah if the problem persists contact blah blah if this is the first time uve seen this error just reboot blah blah) sometimes my computer locks up and i get stupid errors.....they tell me to send error reports, that does no good.....i get them 24/7 too....basically im getting error messaages with lots of zero's / name files in them and my only options really are to terminate things (things being applications im trying to run).....this varies from aol instant messenger, to games, to internet browser, to word, to paint....anything....ive run ad-aware, spybot, mcaffee, ive checked my hijackthis logfile and deleted unwanted things.....ive run chkdsk on bootup, ive run defrag, ive run system restore idno how far back, ive run clean disk, and other stuff.....i think most of these problems have started once i downloaded the service pack 2 package from
