Like many I had problems with the antivirusxp virus. Using the recommended Malware program seemed to help at first, however yesterday my Internet Explorer became corrupted. When I click on LAN settings, all the boxes are greyed out. So I assume that I'll need to reinstall Internet Explorer. I've had the pc for 4 years & cannot find the installation discs. So my question is: If I download IE onto a cd & reinstall it, will this rectify my problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and I've noticed recently, that when I am online, my puter will all of a sudden get knocked off the server. I dont' know why this so much, nor how to fix the problem. I get the message "can't find server", with Firefox and Internet Explorer. I then have to log off and reboot, which costs me money as I use my computer in my small business. This is very frustrating and I need to know how to fix the problem. I recently moved to an apartment from a house and I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it. maybe all the signals in an apartment setting are crossing or something.

I thought I may have had a repair utility in Add/Remove programs but IE is not EVEN listed in there NOR OE. I am beside myself I never did this before, I have reformatted but never fooled around with IE.

Whenever I try to open a webpage saved to my desktop, before the page opens in the browser, I get a message saying Windows cannot find C:documents and settings. Also, whenever I am online, I get a message saying Windows cannot find (the webpage I am trying to open), and then it opens the webpage. Can you help me figure out how to stop these messages? The window with the message has an X in a red circle. I am getting tired of having to close these windows.

The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

I am using WIn XP at work using a dial-up method to get on the Internet and to access Emails. However.this is not ideal when it comes to WIndows Updates and Anti-Virus Updates and the dial-up is labourourly slow(.as you all know!!).I am way behind in the updates and would take for-ever to catch up.I have Broadband at home on my own PC and am wondering can I just unplug my Work PC and plug it in at home and down load the Updates overnight via the Broadband. The next morning I will unplug again and carry into work and reconnect. I will then ensure that I stay updated with a daily logon to the Update sites.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.

I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. Now I am trying to use the Campus internet, but I forgot the settings I need to use. When I access the Campus internet, sometimes there is a small window that pop-up and ask for the username, password and domain. But, since the drivers are "fresh" those settings are gone. I am trying to find a way to re-establish those settings. Unfortunate, the campus staff for this are on vacation. class are over. I am trying to figure out what are the settings. the problem is that I can access the wireless, but until I can write the validation form I can access the internet. I know it was on the wireless properties in certification; any help would be nice.

I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
