Reinstalling Internet Explorer 6: Unable To Find Old Copy?
Feb 11, 2006
I was told by Comcast that The Fan (a feature) was freezing because I needed to reinstall IE 6 I have no other probs with freezing anywhere, my Java is ok. I thought I may have had a repair utility in Add/Remove programs but IE is not EVEN listed in there NOR OE. I am beside myself I never did this before, I have reformatted but never fooled around with IE.
i have windows xp professional operating system my internet explorer has been corrupt it does not open i want to know that i how can i install internet explorer from my windows XP CD if it is possible
I have some minor glitches in my system. I've been thinking about reformating the HD and reinstalling XP Pro. 2 questions: 1st is; if I back up my HD and then do a restore after reinstalling the os, won't I just restore the glitches I'm trying to get rid of? 2nd question; Since I've never done a reinstall and restore; will all my programs be restored just as if they have been installed (Drivers, programs, etc.); or do I have to reinstall all my programs and then do a restore so I get all the data that changed after they were installed?
I was looking for a way to reinstall Internet Explorer Service Pack 2, but the only way I found was to reinstall the whole Service Pack 2. Does anyone might have any better suggestions, or is it impossible and I should just reinstall SP2
I know some images you can't copy and paste, but I use to go to free clip art sites and would be able to copy and paste into Word for kids school projects. Now I can't and I have not been able to for a while now. I think it is an Internet Explorer problem, but I could be wrong. I just recently installed Service Pack 2 for Internet Explorer and still does not work. I am able to copy and paste text, but not images.
I might have known this, but it escapes me right now. I'd like to find the setting in Internet Explorer 6 to cause (when i have several pages open) the stack to run vertically? I have machines that do, and much prefer it
I have Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3 and I've noticed recently, that when I am online, my puter will all of a sudden get knocked off the server. I dont' know why this so much, nor how to fix the problem. I get the message "can't find server", with Firefox and Internet Explorer. I then have to log off and reboot, which costs me money as I use my computer in my small business. This is very frustrating and I need to know how to fix the problem. I recently moved to an apartment from a house and I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it. maybe all the signals in an apartment setting are crossing or something.
I just installed IE7 over IE6, but I cannot seem to find IE listed in Add/Remove Programs or in the Start Programs menu. How can I find it and get the shortcut icon on the desktop? Also, I need the shortcut for WinXP 'shutdown'.
I bought my Dell 4700 about 6 months ago and was just going through the discs that came with it. I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
OS is Windows XP. The computer is 6 years old & have never had problems. Recently I'm unable to access internet Explorer. The white page appears and the "connecting" message...and there it stays. Also, I'm unable to download .net versions 2.0 through 3.5, which appears to prevent me from downloading other programs. One tech tried to assist me remotely & ultimately suggested
I have a desktop and a laptop but decided I needed to reinstall windows on the desktop. I backed up everything and started the re-boot. I deleted the partition and installed a fresh copy of windows. The first thing I noticed while it was installing was that it said it could not copy the files: presetup.cmd & setupORG. I skipped these and continued the installation but once the setup restarted my PC it hits an error screen saying that because these files were not copied setup has to abort.
Just wiped my hard drive clean and am trying to reinstall OS but get a Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. When i add the cd it just repeats Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. Have wiped my hard drive before and haven't had this problem. The boot order is correct in the BIOS and i havent touched any cables.
My cumputer runs Windows XP Service Pack 3. Every day I am invited by Microsoft(automatic update program) to update my browser. After downloading the program it does not install. It is simply impossible.Note that before reinstalling my operational system a couple of months ago, I had Internet Explorer 7 running in my computer without any problems.
i'm runnin XP SP2 and IE7. the problem i'm having is that ever since i moved i have been unable to view sites in Internet Explorer because I keep getting Apache Server at go.microsoft.com Port 8100. I have tried to reset the settings in Internet Options to manufacturers spec but that yielded no results. I can use internet explorer fine on the guest account, however it is indeed..a guest account. The issue isn't such a big deal since i use Firefox anyway, but it is annoying when i rip a CD to my computer and am forbidden to access CDDA for covers, song titles and such.
I have begun experiencing problem with IE6 not displaying pages for any url or IP address entered in the address bar. This occurs when there is an Internet connection (dial up). The browser will display web pages from files on the computer. (Windows XP sr2)I have concluded that this is an IE related problem, since Netscape 7.2 works properly. When I open IE6 with an Internet connection, the title bar indicates that my default homepage is (will be) displayed. There is no url shown in the address bar and no information displayed in the status bar. The mouse hourglass icon is displayed for as long as the browser is left open.
Ever since installing SP2, I am unable to connect to an FTP site via Internet Explorer. The only time I can connect is to turn off the firewall. Is there a way I can resolve this issue? I want to be able to connect to an FTP site without turning off the firewall.
I've messed up something to do with Internet Explorer. First of all, when I open IE all I get is a blank page. No error message or anything. I try to go to a site and the address bar stays at "http:///". I tried repairing my Windows 2000 installation and it didn't help at all. Now it's reverted back to IE5 and Outlook Express 5. So I tried to reinstall IE6 by downloading the installation file and running it. I get the error message:Error creating process <COCUME~1WILLIA~LOCALS~1TempIXP000.TMPie6wzd.exe/S"Cocuments and SettingsWilliam OverbyDesktopIE6.0 FullIE6SETUP.EXE">. Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.
Suddenly I can no longer print from either Internet Explorer or Outlook Express. Hdwr. and sftwr. are: Compaq Pesario 2100, AMD, Win XP SP2. I can print fine from all other applications including Outlook. I get abolulutely nothing when I attempt to print from file > print, menu bar icon, or <ctrl> P. No print properties window, no error message, nothing goes to the spooler.

Recently when starting Internet Explorer 6,instead of going straight to my Google Home Page,it instead go to; http://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.mspx A click on Critical Updates for IE6 at this page then starts trumpeting "Microsoft Update". Is Microsoft trying to get me to purchase something?
anywhere on my 'puter. Yes, I do have "SPYBOT". Did a recovery sequence within Spybot that did not do any good. It is almost a certainty I do not know which group Internet Options would be logged. Would a reload of Windows XP handle that after deleting SpyBot? Or is there any other suggestions? Computer profile:Windows XP pro, 3.20 gig Intel pent. D, 1024 memory, 250 gigs of HD, Intel Corp. I was forced to reinstall windows today as my windows files were corrupted for the second time in two months. Now that I have windows on a fresh install i'm having some device problems. I can't connect to the internet or network b/c my computer is not recognizing my network card (among several other devices) in my device manager. How do i get it to recognize it? i can search for drivers on my other comp but I dont know what network card i have.
I have a friend who has a pentium 2 350 which is currently running on Windows 98SE...yikes!My friend has been complaining that their computer has been running slow and that pop ups are appearing everywhere. I told them that it sounds like their computer has been hijacked and that I would recommend that they format their computer and start from fresh.I want to format their computer and install a newer windows OS (perhaps windows xp) and install a couple of spyware/antivirus programs.
I was recently given a dell optiplex gx260 pc, which is practically unusable due to malware and viruses on it. i am intending to do a clean reinstall of windows xp on it. However the only keyboard i have is usb, and although it seems to work when it asks me to press f2 to go to setup, it does not work when I get the "press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, so i have no way to go to the windows setup screen. If i disable the hard disk and let it default to start from cd i can go into the windows setup screen and the keyboard works to set the options on that, but of course it wont work because it cant detect the disk drive. I have no way to get a regular non usb (ps2?) keyboard other than buying one, which i dont want to do just so i can press one button.
I followed the advice of the sticky above and with my "refreshed" XP Home Installation on my Dell Desktop, I can't connect to the Internet. The "find a connection" Wizard seems to want to find a dial-up connection and nothing in the way of broadband. I use a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter card. The reinstallation did not wipe out any documents or user created files, so am wondering if there is a place in the old Windows files that I can use to get my old connection?
When I try to copy files to a DVD+RW it puts them into some kind of temporary files and then tells me it's ready to copy them to the CD. But it won't let me copy them to a DVD, seems to be looking for a CD. Why must I wait for these temporary files to be created. I was once able to start the copying and it would copy them with no delay. Is there some way to bypass this creation of temporary files and just begin the copying immediately?
