View 6 RepliesWhen i browse to certain directories, mainly ones with video files, i get the following "Data Execution Prevention - Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried disabling DEP for windows explorer and now i dont get the DEP message, but i still get "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've had a similar problem with my old computer where certain video files would cause windows explorer to crash, and i believe the same thing is happening here except that my new CPU uses the DEP feature.
View 25 Replies View RelatedI removed some programs from my computer using the "ad/remove programs" feature in the Control Panel. Since then I've started receiving error messages, primarily when starting or restarting my computer. I'm wondering whether I deleted some OS system files. The error messages I'm getting are:"Data Execution Prevention: To help protect your computer windows has closed this program." Another message says "DrWatson DeBugger...?" I have no idea what this is. I often get some thing like, "there has been a error and this program must shut down."
View 14 Replies View RelatedI cant open some of my desktop icons and I cant get into my computer and control panel by icon or start up button. Every time I try a message pops up that reads Data Execution Prevention. When I close the window it asks me either to send message or it reads Dr Watson Postmortern Debugger. Then it will either completly seize up or do a quick explorer reboot where all the icons and task bar will disapear and then reapear. I have searched for all pests, viruses, trojans, malware, viruses etc with, spybot, trend micro house call, ca e-trust antivirus, ad aware and it comes up clean.
View 1 Replies View RelatedData execution prevention error message appears every time I exit Windows Explorer. In addition, the window is not complete most of the time. The URL box is transparent and not accessible or visible. I have to attempt access several times before the window is complete visible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDEP has been closing my browsers for the past few days. Right now I'm using Start>Search>Search the internet.
I can get into the settings and change them to allow programs such as firefox and internet explorer but once I've closed the window, DEP has decided it's not safe again.
i have currently windows vista home premium sp1 running here... i wanted to install xp as my printer is not supported by vista and some more reasons intially the xp cd was not at all loaded, right after "the setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" it went blank...
then i followed this link, http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vi...ter-vista.html
it asked to disable sata in bios. after doing so, the xp got loaded but after loading when i entered to install xp, got the message " no harddisk detected"... this is because my hard disk is sata and not ide
I opened up task manager and ran regedit and then went through the register into image file execution options but there was no Explorer.exe option there and no debugger thing to delete.

my computer is weird to the max....here are some problems just to name a few: when running random programs, i get fatal execution errors, i get messages asking to debug random apllications or terminate them, i get messages to just terminate things, i get messages that start coming up whenever i try and open something and whatever i try and open it says it has to close....sometimes my whole screen turns blue with white typewriter font saying i have hit a problem and i need to shut down (blah blah if the problem persists contact blah blah if this is the first time uve seen this error just reboot blah blah) sometimes my computer locks up and i get stupid errors.....they tell me to send error reports, that does no good.....i get them 24/7 too....basically im getting error messaages with lots of zero's / name files in them and my only options really are to terminate things (things being applications im trying to run).....this varies from aol instant messenger, to games, to internet browser, to word, to paint....anything....ive run ad-aware, spybot, mcaffee, ive checked my hijackthis logfile and deleted unwanted things.....ive run chkdsk on bootup, ive run defrag, ive run system restore idno how far back, ive run clean disk, and other stuff.....i think most of these problems have started once i downloaded the service pack 2 package from
View 8 Replies View RelatedThere are two excellent spyware removal apps available and they are both FREE so there is no reason to not use them regularly. The two best apps there are for removing spyware are SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE BOTH OF THESE APPS SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES AND VICE VERSA, YOU ARE NOT SAFE USING JUST ONE OF THEM. There is one other app that I HIGHLY recommend is for spyware prevention, SpywareBlaster. This app sets certain registry entries that prevent spyware from ever installing, it DOES NOT run in the background using any resources, you just set it and forget it. Once you have installed these three MUST HAVE apps you then need to update them and keep them up to date. I would recommend checking for updates weekly, it’s just like your antivirus app, you need to stay protected from the latest spyware out there. To update SpyBot just open the app from your start menu (use the advanced mode option) and select “search for updates” it will then show you what updates are available for download, always install all the updates. Another feature that SpyBot has is called “Immunize”, you will see an icon for it. Select the icon and under “Permanent Internet Explorer Immunity” select “Immunize” this works in the same way as SpywareBlaster in blocking new spyware. It also gives you the option of locking your hosts file against hijackers, I highly recommend using this option as well. To update Ad Aware just open it and select “Check for updates now”. For SpywareBlaster it is mostly the same, open it up and select “Check for updates” once you update this you then must select “select all” and then “Protect against checked items” so that the updates you just did take effect. Anything these apps find is spyware and should be removed, if you choose not to remove what is found then you have no one to blame if your pc crashes due to spyware or your privacy is invaded (including these companies stealing your credit card number and identity

I have reloaded Windows on another HDD and I will be able to recover most of my data from backups. However, there is still some recent data on the bad disk which I am frantic to recover. I am able to find the "Documents and Settings" folder where I believe the "Outlook Express" data is held
I am unable to get into the folder as my username on the computer was passworded (the password is known). Neither am I allowed to copy the folder to my new drive. I cannot access the folder from my new OS even when I password myself with the same username / password. I have attempted to repair the bad drive's copy of Windows but that wasn't successful. I don't want to replace the bad copy with a fresh as this would reformat the drive taking with it the folder I want (and can't copy). Any work on the folder would need to be on the bad drive, it seems. I have run out of ideas.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have attached a copy of my HJT. Would really appreciate if it can be run through to see if there is anything that I can disable in my start up. The computer that I am using is being shared and I have become concerned over some stuffs. In Service Pack 2, a firewall is included right? Now there is this Zone Alarm downloaded too a few months ago. Is that a firewall program? There is also a Norton Personal Firewall that comes with the PC I know that the anti virus has expired but this firewall thing is still working right? At times like this, I wished I have more knowledge on computers but lucky me.I have you Guys at Tech Support to enlighten.

I even tried disabling the welcome screen, and I still get asked to login first.
I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
And no, I do not have a password enabled on the account.
I have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music.
Any suggestions welcome.
While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.
