I use Zone Alarm free for my firewall. Then i found out about Comodo,which i thought mkight be better. I researched and found out it had better protection. I downloaded it, and set zone alarm to off. I don't like having no firewall (I distrust the hardware one, have reasons) so i disable the network (direct connecion + lan. I install it and restart.I try to re-enable lan (direct doesnt show until lan) , and get bsod. Restart, try agian bsod. It is while it is acquiring network adress. Thinking it is the firewall, i load up

It said all of this. I cant uninstall anything because this error comes up right after it says windows. I already tried safe mode, start from the best mode where it work and etc. It is not workin. i already tried the F8 steps, tht did not work either. and i dnt knw wat they are tlkin about when they say run CHDSK/ F. ummm yea so i need alot of help. Hopefully someone can walk me through of how to fix this. And also i do not have the window xp installtion cd or disk. I was wondering where u get tht from because when i was lookin up how u fix this problem most said u need this cd. So pretty much the basic of my problem is tht i have the BSOD and it is 0x00000024 error and i can not log on or even get to the log on part.
first of all, under the settings for window's firewall, i am not able to choose whether or not i want to enable it or disable it. it is set as disabled and both the enable/disable buttons are greyed out and i cannot click it. second, my auto update keeps turning itself off. after setting it back on, it will turn off the next time i boot my computer. third, i'm having some networking problems. i can connect onto the other computers of my network, however the other computers cannot connect to me. are all these problems related in anyway?

I have a gateway 6520 gz laptop with IE6 and XPHE, I 'm on a network with two computers and use NETWORK MAGIC for the network, when I turn the laptop on it wants to display {the page cannot be displayed} instead of going online! Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?
I need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?
i have a problem with my network folder.It seems that I can't see my existing network connections in the folder! I first noticed this when i click on my dial-up connection the connection window won't come up.When i open the network connections folder in the control panel, an error message comes up with this message:The Network Connections Folder was unable to retrieve the lsit of Network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the Network Connections service is enabled and running.
My network adapter does not appear in Device Manager, until I "Show hidden devices". And then it appears as a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", whereas I actually have a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 adapter. Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. So if I want to change any settings of my LAN, for example, I can't, because I can't select the LAN icon or right-click on it. The LAN is working though. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.
We have a vender that wants to use our printer at work which is hooked up to our network but he can't join our network because he is not an employee.Just spoke to him and he has a Sony Vaio laptop and DOES NOT WANT ANY DRIVERS on his machine. Im lost. I was just going to install drivers on his machine and hook the printer up USB but he just formatted his machine and now doesn't want any drivers at all.
when I browse "My Network Places", the browsing is so incredibly slow. It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow. I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast. All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
How can I disable incoming pings (without a firewall)? Whenever ping.exe in %systemroot%system32 is renamed a new copy is made when someone attempts to ping. Are there other files that need moving/renaming?
Im trying to remove IE priveledges for 1 limited user account for an XP home machine; but still have other user accounts have permission to access the browser. This is a workgroup enviroment. Right now; it appears by editing group policies; I can disable IE for ALL users or enable for ALL users, but can't select who can have it and who cannot
I want to connect to the internet but the network card won't work. when i right click and choose repair. it says can't repair TCP/IP is disabled. The problem started when we wanted to connect another computer and changed some settings now i can't figure out wat to do. I called the Cable ISP they say that something is wrong witht the settings of computer of network card.
I have attached a copy of my HJT. Would really appreciate if it can be run through to see if there is anything that I can disable in my start up. The computer that I am using is being shared and I have become concerned over some stuffs. In Service Pack 2, a firewall is included right? Now there is this Zone Alarm downloaded too a few months ago. Is that a firewall program? There is also a Norton Personal Firewall that comes with the PC I know that the anti virus has expired but this firewall thing is still working right? Can't install the fax service on it.I go to Add/Remove Programs - Add Windows Components and select the fax service. It appears to install and the Fax even appears in Printers and Faxes for about 1 second, then vanishes.Has anyone else experienced this?More info:There is an Epson Stylus DX9400F all-in-one installed. Don't know if that is the reason for not being able to install the fax?
I only have one account on my Windows XP computer, and have guest account disabled. Yet, every time I turn on my computer, I am greeted with the choice of what account to login to, even though there is only one. Am I missing something? I even tried disabling the welcome screen, and I still get asked to login first. I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. And no, I do not have a password enabled on the account.
I have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music. Any suggestions welcome. While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.

I'm trying to connect from my desktop to my laptop using RDC. They are both on my home network. When I RDC into my laptop, I get the login screen as I expected, login, and I'm in.for about two seconds. After that, the connection hangs and eventually RDC drops me
When I log into the laptop itself, the wireless connection icon in the bottom right shows "acquireing network address" for a second, finds it, and then the laptop is on the network again. I'm assuming that when I do RDC into the laptop and the desktop takes over, the network adapter on the laptop thinks it's time to sleep or disable, and drops off the lan. I confirmed this by doing a ping fromthe desktop to the laptop. Before RDC, no problem. After the RDC connection hands, I can't ping the laptop anymore. Once I log into the laptop itself, I can ping the laptop from the desktop
Lots of schools need to run one desktop for all users. Not a standard default user template. But to actually disable user profiles like you could in windows 98. With 2600 users xp takes to long to login when it has to create a profile each time because we use a security program that freezes the desktop and dismisses any changes to the c: once rebooted.Does anyone know of a way to disable user profiles or assign a profile where everyone uses it and a new local one is not created
Running XP on a HP/Compaq NC6000. Had a page from HP site bookmarked that told what registry key to modify. HP has removed the thread, can't find the answer elsewhere. Ideas appreciated. I've seen posts for other models directing user to enter BIOS to change but unable to get into it. The registry key modification worked earlier.
