Backing Up Whole System With All Applications And Softwares?

Sep 14, 2005

I want a means of backing up my whole system, applications, data, and everything including the operating system to a separate hard drive. If my hard disk dies I don't want to have to reload the operating system and all its updates, reload all my software and their updates, recreate users This literally takes days.I want to be able to put in a new hard drive and completely recreate my entire system from my backup drive and be back up and running in a couple hours.

Operating System Reboot After Install Softwares

Jul 9, 2005

A fresh installation of windows xp. When I am having installed XP, then it comes to installing various software, is it necessary to allways do a reboot after each installatoin, even if the software does not request it. Most software does not seem to request it, is there any benefit in rebooting, or conversely can any damage possibly be done by not rebooting and then reinstalling another software without rebooting for the first one that doesn't specifically ask for it. My next question is this. If I use an image to restore my operating system, is this in any way of a lesser quality than if I do a manual installation using the installation xp disc.

System Wont Boot: Backing Up Data To A External Drive?

Aug 10, 2009

Well like alot of people I made the mistake of selecting safeboot in the boot.ini file in the msconfig file after my comp got a virus and would not boot into safemode. The hard drive is in two partitions: the C drive used to contain windows, and the D drive which has the data i am trying to save. I don't have a Windows XP disc because it was already on the comp when i bought it. I have attempted to restore the windows files with Bart PE bootup image disc but it wiped out Windows XP completely from the C drive in the process, but the Data drive is still showing up with all its files intact.

Reinstall Softwares System Restore Or PC Restore?

Jan 20, 2008

We have 3 puters here, all hooked up. One is a Compaq and the other two are Dell's. The Compaq is obvious and I can't mess that up, but I did on the other two.Last year, I decided I wanted a fresh puter, so I backed up all of my stuff onto the 2nd Dell [it's used just for the children and was not allowed online] and reformatted it. Now I want to put my stuff back onto my Compaq and reformat the children's.I wanted to check which Windows CD went with what Dell, so I went to look at the OEM numbers on each puter. Well, darn it, but they're both the same!! How do I figure out which Windows CD is supposed to go with which puter???? Each one is assigned one, right? One CD is like a purple/burgundy and says, "Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1" [the booklet that came with it says, "Version 2002"]. and the other CD is like a mauve/purple [close to the colour of this dude --> ] and says, "Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 2" [the booklet that came with it says, "Version 2002"]. Not exactly sure how old the Dell's are, but the one the children use was hubby's - he gave it to me when he bought a new one for himself and then I gave it to them when he bought me the Compaq. He's had his new one for about 4 years. While looking through the CD's [I keep them all together in a box], I found a square paper with a pic of a blue CD on it and it says, "Your new computer does not require an operating system CD or drivers CD's. Instead, if you ever need to reinstall your software, use one of the following methods." and suggests either System Restore or PC Restore. What puter does THAT come with? Now, the childrens' puter has never had the Windows updates as it's not online, no Service Pack 2 or anything like that, so no Genuine Advantage should be on it, but it is? Their puter is only for games that we buy them: disks, CD's, and the online games that they like to play are played on either my or hubby's puters.

Cannot Install Softwares

Sep 26, 2007

I got a very unusual problem. Whenever I try install any software (archived format), i get error messages like "installation source is corrupt", "cannot extract files from package", "cannot install software. if you are installing from CD please check whether the CD is in the CD-ROM or not, or if you are installing from a network, check your network connection" and errors similar to this.Of course, i re-downloaded installation files from DIFFERENT sources each time, but again this error does not goes away.Due to this I cannot install Java, anti-virus and my favorite media-player too.

Installing Softwares: Corrupt Data.cab?

Mar 26, 2006

I recieved my new PC today. Something obviously went wrong when I was installing drivers and necessary software. It was either during ZoneAlarm or ATI's display drivers (from the CD, until I could download the latest off the site). After that things have been a bit unstable. I managed to uninstall ZoneAlarm. I turned off auto-rebooting and tried launching GAIM as it was affected by the ... mess. gaim.dll wouldn't launch, and I got the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen. I scanned with NOD32 and I didn't find any viruses, but everything inside driver.cab is, well, see for yourself.

CPU At 100% Usage: System Halt/ Stoped Loading Applications?

Aug 4, 2005

the CPU would peg at 100% on a program launch and drag the machine to ahalt. Once the program was up and running, everything was back tonormal. Keep in mind that this is NOT just a "slow computer" - it wasbrand-new behavior that started for no reason I could discern (I didn'tmake any hardware or software changes before the problem cropped up).I've run a couple of antivirus programs and adware cleaners and they've found nothing. I've used utilities from sysinternals.com to look at what's going on and I can't see anything strange.

I'm having problems simply launching applications. If I attempt to launch an application, it will show up in Task Manager (but not in the UI), but will almost always stop loading at ~5MB in memory (usually from about 4.7 to 5.7MB). Every once in a while, the program will start without a hitch, but it's rare. The one somewhat (but not entirely) consistent thing I've been able to find is that if I kill another program, I can then start the program I was trying to start (again, I have 1GB of RAM in this machine and plenty free, so it's not a memory problem).

Applications Using High CPU Resources / Making System Slow?

Jan 16, 2008

I am having a problem where everything seems to take up way more CPU usage than it used to. There is no application stealing processing power. Rather, when I start an application that would normally use a bit of CPU, it now spikes the CPU.In particular, 5 year old game called Neverwinter Nights is now unplayable and spikes up to 55% CPU usage on both cores even though it should only hit one core. The Earthsim program also does the same. So do other applications.

Backing Up To C Partition To CD

Feb 25, 2010

after messing around with several backup programs, Paragon has proved to be the most practical HOWEVER when I select to backup my C partition it wants to back up over 8 GIGS of data. Converting gig to meg and seeing as CD's can hold only 700mb that's about fifteen CD's that I'm going to have to use! I don't even think that there's a Flash drive large enough to back up what these recovery programs want to back up.I've upgraded and patched .net up to 3.5 (1.1 is broken for some reason). I've upgraded and patched XP Home to service pack 2 and have upgraded and patched IE to release 7.I have various utitlity and virus scanner programs on my system but doing an file observation through Advanced System Care, I have nowhere near 9 gigs of data that I need to back up.So the only thing I can think is that Paragon is trying to back all the formated trash data from the umpteen system formats that I've done.I've used several wipers and asked Paragon to exclude auxilary files but still insists that I have close to 9 gigs of data to back up?

Backing Up SP2 Installation CD

Sep 18, 2006

I bought a full copy of Windows XP with SP2 included to install on my Intel Mac. Since it was a fairly expensive piece of software, I wish to protect this investment by creating a backup copy of the installation CD, in case anything should occur that damages the one that I bought. How can I do this so that the backup CD will install properly? I know very little about images and creating bootable discs, so any guidance would be very much appreciated. One problem that I know I wish to avoid: a fellow that I asked at a computer store said that he had tried but failed, finding that the new copy would not accept the serial number once he had installed it.
