To find a windows explorer error message. When I click close on the error, the same error pops back up.
I finally got the error message to stop on startup and the computer worked fine but now when I access any windows based programs, windows explorer, my computer, control panel, IE 7, my computer puts the error message back up.
When i click "close" windows explorer does not go away, the error message just does but it still prohibits my access to these programs (which really really annoys me).
2 days ago, I used add/remove programs then Norton Removal Tool to remove Norton AV, and replaced it with AVG Free. My PC seemed to work fine until yesterday: upon booting, AVG automatically tried to update and ended up reporting "something bad happened..."; Not sure if AVG issue is relevant but now I CANNOT OPEN FOLDERS or APPS!
Now about 9 times out of 10, when I try to open a file or app, the screen icons and background pic disappear momentarily, and nothing opens. If I manage to open a folder, it seems my PC hangs up similarly at the following task (sometimes I get my RCA Lyra icon suddenly showing up in the toolbar). BTW I experienced the exact same problem a couple of times before the AVG install but rebooting would always fix the issue. Not anymore! It took many reboots but I was able to get AdAware to run - found nothing - and Maintenance Mechanic 6 - showed PC Repair is needed but hangs once it gets to reading the disk index. I tried deleting Lyra, but it won't let me (hangs once I manage to open the add/remove program page).
Every time i try to open anything i get a pop up box that says "You have chosen to open anyapp.exe which is a : Application from :C: Program Files anyapp Would you like to save this file? "
Windows gives me the following error message when I open some applications; "There is no disk in the the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." Then light on the floppy disk drive turns on.
My Laptop keeps coming up with the above error when trying to open some applications. example is windows media player, messenger, moviemaker etc. Also some things I download then try to install come up with this error.I really want to fix this problem as formatting would not be my preferred option, as nero and sonic come up with the error too i can't backup stuff to cd.
when I'm trying to open any application in windows XP and the adobe program comes up with an error saying it cant open, because its unsupported. It makes no difference what program I open the adobe application still comes up.The only one not effected is explorer.Have a limited account active and this seems ok.tryed opening everything to get in the back door but I get the above error.
Recently I cannot install or uninstall any applications and have been unable to open certain websites. Alot of people seems to be posting these logs, so heres mine. Thx in advance.
I have a fresh install of WinXP Pro, SP3. The dialog box opens up. The drop-down menu for choosing drives expands as expected for about 1 second, then closes back up. This happens no matter what. It just won't stay open/expanded. I must add, that clicking, My Computer, and using THAT drop-down to choose drives works fine. It's only in applications that this happens. I could swear I've seen this behavior before, but I can't place what it is or how to remedy it.
I have McAfee internet suite, and I have it set so that I have to enter a password to open internet-based Applications. Problem is, I forgot my password.
I've been using this laptop, and I have to deal with it for quite some time before I can replace my other one. Anyway, I've attempted to install Windows Service Pack 2 and 3 several times (I can't download or update Windows applications without it), but I haven't had any luck.
I almost get to the end of the installation when the "Extracting Files" box closes and an error message pops up saying "Setup Error: System cannot find file specified", then "Setup Error: Installation did not complete". It does this after the extraction stops on "i386updateupdate.exe"
all applications locked. i shut down by pressing and holding the button but when started up again the error message "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <windows root>system32hal.dll" appeared.chkdsk came up with no errors? Tried BOOTCFG/LIST, BOOTCFG/SCAN same error message, not sure what to do now?
I have the same problem with some programs that I want to install in my pc. I receive this problem error message:C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose Close to terminate the operation. There are several softwares that I would like to install on my pc but I cant because of this error One is a game, the other one is a program I need ot make programs and the last one is a typing software. Is there a way that I can install them on my pc?
I consider myself somewhat experienced with computers in general and Windows in particular (been using computers since the DOS days), but there is a thing with windows that rather baffles me. The thing is that since some time ago, whenever I start a game or any other DirectX program in full screen it resizes all opened windows to that programs screen resolution. Even dxdiag full screen tests seem to cause it.
Once the full screen program exits or if I alt-tab out of it, all mine previously maximized windows are resized to fit in whatever resolution the DirectX app was running but they seam to think they are still maximized (2 squares instead of one on the maximize button and I need to press it twice to actually maximize them again, and also their size when not maximized seam to be changed to the app's resolution as well I normally run my desktop at 1280x1024 resolution
I fire up PC I am given the option to open two different versions of Windows operating systems. They are both the same, except one is a new partition and the other is thr original partion from the factory(Dell). I am given the message,"Cannot open Windows. The file <Windows root>system32hal.dll is missing. Please reinstall this file.
When i try and open anything, quite literally anything, excluding explorer, a wordpad document comes up with a load of rubbish.I am just in the process of downloading panda scan,
A message saying that it found some threats and asked if I wanted to remove those. I said yes and then everything disappeared. Now windows would not open. There is a message saying - load needed DLLs for kernel
If I click on a link, a window pops up but its blank. I've unistalled pop up stoppers, even System Mechanic, Something in Windows XP Pro is set to prevent them from opening, likely to protect me from virus. But it is getting to be a royal pain. I have to right click the link,"copy shortcut" and paste it to the blank browser window. Even then, if the shortcut is a java script I can't open it at all.
Every time i try to open any thing (image, zip file, video) basically any file that sends makes windows sends the (%1) argument to the associated program (meaning when zip files makes windows calls for winrar, or videos makes it call for VLC) I get thoes programs windows behind the original window and it gets pretty bad when that happens with a "force always on top" window, I just can't reach for the window behind.
Using Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer, when I open a window, it is small in size. I have tried to maximize a window and then exited Explorer in hopes that it would remember that I want to open all windows maximized, but it still opens them small in size. How can I tell Explorer that I always want windows opened maximized?
I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and changed the icon, clicked ok, blah blah. However, now whenever I open a folder, it instead opens the default "Search" thing.
So I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and added a new thing called "open", to open with "explorer.exe".
Now the folder opens, however when I double click a folder within that, rather than it opening in the same window, it opens in a new window!!
And no, this is not the setting in Folder Options that selects between the two. It is alerady set to open in same window. I've gone through all the other settings in Folder Options.
My laptop powers up but will not open windows; goes to the windows xp page, but then jumps to a blue screen registry file failure?, and then to a black command prompt page. All tries on this page including normal startup, safe mode, last config, etc, etc, will not allow access to windows...keeps going round and round.
When I open a new window, it opens regular-sized. not maximized, as was previously the case. How can I return to that previous setting (maximized window) for new windows?
If you ever have more than 21 windows open, in Windows XP, ALT-Tab can't show them all. Any suggestions of software that would expand the window, or give me some other way to switch between them via the keyboard?
When I open windows explorer I see My Computer, My Network Places, Recycle Bin, and Internet Explorer. I no longer see My Documents. How do I get them back to show in windows explorer?
I'm not sure my question belongs in this venue and trust someone will kindly direct it elsewhere if applicable. When I convert a document to a PDF file, Windows XP Pro automatically tries to open the new PDF file with Miscrosoft Office Picture Manager. Further, when opening a PDF file from Windows Exploder (pun intended) I have to go the extra step of telling Windows to "open with" Acrobat 6.0 or it will automatically try to open with Picture Manager.
my system restarts just when it's up to open windows. i installed fresh windos xp for three times and after 15 minutes working it starts restarting again. safe mode doesnt work too. could it be some of my components not working?
I do not want to open another instance of a program that is already open. When I click on a file in explorer (and the program for that file is already open) the file is opened in another copy of the program.
Just recently, all of my programs, e-mail client (Juno) and Explorer open minimized. I max them out, and then close them, but it's still happening.I read somewhere that there is a registry fix for this. Does anyone out there have the fix (or other solution)?I do not have a restore point to go to.
