Appears that some sort of virus took me by surprise. It wiped out most of my .jpg files (from dig. camera) and my TB email account. The only thing I did prior was run AdAware in safe mode for XP.I use AVG, Zone alarm Panicware's popup stopper. Is there any hope of getting my pics back?
i really need somIm a gamer, by nature, i have what id like to think of as a high spec PC. It has Windows XP Proffesional, SP2. I keep it very clean, anyway enuff of my sadness.Jus recently i was hit by a virus. AVG free, finally cleaned it up, and now im receiving Windows Security Alerts. The exact message is "To help protect your computer, Your registry has to be fixed. To resolve theis problem, obtain the latest update." only trouble is, i click accept, it downloads this program called System Registry Cleaner 2.4, and then i have to pay for it before i can use it. Unfortunately it doesnt accept solo, so i went ahead and purchased a registry cleaner from somewhere else.
After going through a virus attack, losing a hard drive, fighting off hackers, upgrading all my software, installing fire-walls, being threatened with being cut-off by my email provider, and a host of other problems, I have fixed my computer.... NOW it works exactly the way I want it to!
i have an external/portable hard disk. i connect it to my laptop by usb.everything used to be okay, i mean with all the contents inside it. but now recently i have this problem with this particular folder. all folders could be clicked, highlighted, right clicked, accessed; but this one folder, whenever i attempt to highlight it/select it, or when i single/double or right click it, the window would just freeze.
I have windows xp sp3 while running avast 4.8 a warning stating cwindowssystem32drivers was infected with win32 alueron. I shut down my computer to run a boot time scan and now my computer is starting indefinatly. While attempting to start in safe mode computer states press enter to continue loading sptd.sys. My son was trying to get access to my computer & couldn't get past the password so inserted the recovery disk & now ALL of my files are gone (pictures, music, banking...etc). Is there any way to get this info back? I tried to use a restore point, but there are none prior to the day he used the recovery disk.
C:WINDOWSTELNET.EXE Ist das Trojanische Pferd TR/Dldr.Small.RN.1 That's what AntiVir. told me today - and I have no idea how to get rid of it, as marking the option "delete" on AntiVir doesn't seem to effectively delete the file.I haven't spotted or better said, felt, any anomalies in the doing of any things to do on my PC...but the fact that the Trojan is there disturbs me greatly since I don't know what exactly it will destroy when it fully activates itself.Just now again it gave me this alert: C:WINDOWSLASTGOODSYSTEM32TELNET.EXE Ist das Trojanische Pferd TR/Dldr.Small.RN.1
i cannot access my "regedit" on run,it will alert me "this program has been disable by administrator" and restart automatically..i cannot access"msconfig" on run,it also restart automatically..my folder option also gone.i have hidden file n now i cannot open it anymore because my folder option gone..i already try to find it but still cannot find..what should i do..??i think it was a virus attack because there's one ie file in "My Picture" name "brontok.a[10]" and even i delete it,it will back again to the folder..i already try to remove it using Microsoft & McAfee antispyware,McAfee antivirus,Norton antivirus but still no change.
I have found in many places on my computer files that are called sharaza is it garbage malware or what ever? How do i get rid of it. I am running wxp sp2
I am running winxp . due to virus infection in my machine I lost all the .pst file and also Thunderbird inbox files. All the start program shortcut was also wiped out. I was running AVG anti virus. Now I removed AVG and installed Microsoft supplied security essential software. It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.
I wanted to download additional content from the XP installation disc. I selected add digital media from choices and clicked the button. It started analyzing the system then suddenly started deleting a whole slug of files. It finished and rebooted, after which neither of my dvd drives would recognize discs. Windows media player was gone too. Both player models show up on the add hardware list in control panel. I wrote down the models and downloaded drivers for one of them and it wouldn't install them because it said the drive wasn't present. The "add new hardware" said the same thing, though it was on the list.
I turned on my computer to find it essentially wiped clean.
My desktop was just the basics, generic picture, no screen saver, 'My Documents' were all gone, my emails were all gone, bookmarks etc. When I opened up my Outlook I had to set it all up again, when I open any of the office suite of programs I need to reset them up.
Yet, Skype was still installed, Mozilla was there, my BlackBerry software was there just without any of the personal info? Basically like my user profile was cleaned out?
Folders I had set up directly on the C: were still there, yet all of 'My Documents' were gone...
I was able to retrieve everything from Carbonite (YIPPEE) and am in the process of getting it all put back where it belongs.. Spybot didn't find anything and the shortened version of Norton did not find anything, have not done a full system scan via Norton yet.
I brought the computer (Dell Latitude laptop) into a local computer tech and he didn't have a clue, basically did nothing except waste 4 days that I could have spent working on it...
I recently installed windows defender beta2 on my computer. When I ran it, it showed that I had a medium risk possible hijacker on my computer. I clicked to repair the issue and that's when all hell broke loose. I have lost everything on my computer. I restarted my computer and all I get is my desktop background minus the task bar, start menu and desktop icons. I also lost Internet Explorer. I can can bring up the task manager screen and use that to browse my folders. All of my folders are listed but most of them are empty. I am able to get online but since internet explorer folder is wiped out, I cannot surf the interent. I just get a screen showing that I need to install Internet explorer. I can receive my Juno e-mail account. When I go into DOS and type in tree, it does list all my folders and the items that these folders are suppose to include. This leads me to believe that my data is all in my computer smewhere but I cannot get access to it. I have tried to start the computer in safe mode but it won't allow me to do so. THe screen just flashes on and off.
Recently I had switched hard drives between two computers. The one that gave me trouble was the one that had XP Pro on it. A repair install wasn't working, so I did a complete reinstall. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the entire registry would be wiped.I've been reading around various articles online and I came across something that said "Reinstalling may cause a new registry to be created if more than one XP Installation exists on the same partition." or something of the sort. If this is in fact true, is there a way to get the old registry back so all the programs on the hard drive work again?
Recently i had my computer wiped and now i have no sound i go to my drivers and i have ATI Function Driver for high definition Audio but it doesn't work at all because i have no sound i never had this until after the wipe i was using realtek AC'97. I have tried to get it back but when i downloaded it i got the error 10.I have a Windows XP Media Center Edition.Version 2002 Service pack 3.
My computer crashed an hour or so ago and upon restarting I discovered that all my bookmarks in Firefox had been wiped out. I've tried a system restore but it has not restored the bookmarks.what I can do to get them back as it would be a real bummer to try and remember them all?
I just completely wiped my HD clean with DBAN. Went to do a clean install, XP HOME, and everything went fine until I checked windows explorer and found out that I have 3 1/2 floppy, removable disk c:, removable disk D:,removable disk E:, DVD-R DRIVE F:, AND local disk G:. I should only have one local disk................... C: Why do I have all these removable disks C:,D:,E:???????And how can I fix this?
I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.
today i was attacked with more than 20 trojans i had windows virus crap up and that didnt do much. i had avg running thank god it was scanning and found 13 trojans already in my comp and intercepted another 8 i dont know what i did to bring that all down on me. a website was opening it self, poping up whenever it was called "internet speed moniter" or something like that i think thats the source tho im not sure. my comp shut down by it self then i came back to find it had installed its program on my comp without my permission and several other new folders were in my programs files folder. well i figured just whipe the hard drive and start over clean..i put my xp disk in and attempted to do so. but i was over my head.i dont know how and need some assistance.
Due to a very successful attack I need to move my Outlook Express files to another Computer. Unfortunately, my search ability has been decimated on the originating computer by the attack.
1. How do I find the E-mails in Windows Explorer [they are present in Outlook Express but I can not find then in windows Explorer]?
2. How do I move them to the other computer [I can still burn CDs and DVDs]?
3. The receiving computer uses Windows XP Home and Outlook [not Express] Do I need to do anything additional or differently?
The problems started when my wife received an E-mail from her college [not really but that was what the e-mails address indicated] It was opened and; look out. It eliminated or disabled: Internet Access, Norton System Works [including virus protection] and Internet Security, and XPs Restore, Search and Help features. It also locked all of Norton from being reinstalled [eventually I was able to reinstall Norton including virus Protection, and Internet service]; However, I still have been unable to reinstall the Help and Restore features. In addition to the above Does anyone know how to get the computer back to normal without a total re-install of XP? BTW Do not open any emails that are warning you of Policy Violations, E-Mail Service termination and so on as my wife and I found out. The first ones came from my wifes university now they are coming from Verizon my ISP.
I think my PC is infected with a virus. It is stuck in a continuous startup loop.I get an error message stating:SAS Window: winlogon.exe - Application Error I'm given an option to enter to terminate the program or cancel to debug. Either option restarts the system again. It won't work in safe mode or any thing else.
my computer got infected with a malware or two. I honestly forgot what they're called but one of them was called rogue. something. A few of my desktop icons got deleted and sometimes I wouldnt c the start button or the computer wouldnt detect the main harddrive and various other errors. It also gave me fake anti virus ads I installed many different programs to remove it but none were successful, except Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.Now, my computer has been so unstable that I dont even feel like it's a new computer.
For the last month i had this virus that has survived 2 reformats and I had enough- I need to kick this thing. The main thing I notice is that it prevents me from installing some programs . AVG gives me some random error code and AIM and MSN say that I need to not be in safe mode to install.During reformat there is an error that invovles M.dll. I remember looking it up on google and it invovles a list of dll files or virus list or something to that effect. Anyway, it wouldnt let me install it during the reformat installation of windows. I tried to download it and put it in system32 folder, but it didn't help.
Hi I've recently had a virus on my PC and I finally got rid of it but it duplicated a lot of files on my computer. Is there a way to get rid of them without having to go through Windows Explorer and look at each folder and file?
i had the smitfraud virus. adaware and zonelabs could not clean it. microsoft had something that did get rid of it. now heres my problem. all of my exe files wont open. it tells me "missing shortcut" whether im clicking the icons from my desktop or from the start menu. most of my icons have changed as well. my hewlett packard printer icons are replaced with a windows icon. im not that great with computers but im pretty good with the basics
I had inadvertently got attacked by one of those site that offers a free scan for virus protection and I could not get it off of my machine. In my efforts I ended up with a blue screen with the claim that I have a "page fault in nonpaged area" and it instructs me to remove cache, shadowing and various other exercises that can't be done or are not relevant. There is also a series of changing causes similar, if not the same, as those reported by others that are having problems and are similarly titled in this forum area
I run a any virus program on my computer and they tell me there are certain files that cannot be opened, I'm running windows xp profesional some of the files that it can't open
We have a Dell Inspiron 6000, and it won't boot Windows XP, giving me the message system32configsystem is missing or corrupt. I've gone through a number of steps to recover, including using Windows XP startup disk to go into Recovery console, following MS knowledge base articles, running chkdsk, etc. What I've found out is that the "system" file from both windowssystem32config and from windows epair is gone.
Running Windows XP Home with service pack 2 on a Dell Dimension Desktop computer. We have no user names to click on in order to log on. Administrator password that has always worked, no longer works so repair isn't possible. What has been done so far:Removed the hard disk, connected it to a known-clean system and scanned for viruses with Norton Antivirus using definition date of 03/16/2005. No virus or suspicious files found. Ran chkdsk /f.It found and fixed errors in the file system.
As my system is running very slow, I decided to look for the source of the problem. While looking at the system information details I noticed five processes under the name "svchost.exe" with the label "not available for all the information tabs (Path, Min working set, max working set, version, size) The same problem with a process called wmiprvse.exe. Please can you tell what is that and if this is a virus, worm or malware or is only a system process?
I have other for processes "svchost.exe" with the path determined "C:windowssystem 32svchost.exe. Is there any difference? I scaned my computer several time just yesterday.
