My computer crashed an hour or so ago and upon restarting I discovered that all my bookmarks in Firefox had been wiped out. I've tried a system restore but it has not restored the bookmarks.what I can do to get them back as it would be a real bummer to try and remember them all?
View 2 RepliesLately my computer has been having many issues regarding its performance. It's an old computer, about 4 yrs old. HP Pavillion, Windows XP. It runs at around 100% when I have about 3 or 4 programs open, when I restart I almost always receive a message about hardware monitor finding an error. At one time I was wondering if my mouse or keyboard could be the culprit. Sometimes when I am opening tabs in new windows on firefox, and right click with my mouse.it opens the site in a new window or it shows me the element properties, tries to save the page, bookmark it, etc. I have scanned for viruses and have come up with nothing. I am afraid to turn my computer off because I don't know if it will come back. I've done about three whole system restores on it (all of which have had issues that have resolved if the restore has been started and then let to rest for a few days.)
Another issue last night, was that Firefox would not respond when I entered a website. It would say that it was finding the site, but then it would say "done" very quickly. I put the computer in hibernate (and the part that says "windows is preparing to hibernate" looked drastically different.) This morning I wanted to find out the problem with firefox. i got a message about how firefox had crashed and needed to be restarted. I clicked on "restart firefox" and my computer had a bluescreen error and crashed. This is the message I recieved from windows about that: Blue screen error caused by a device or driver. You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.
My father wants to know if he can increase the TEXT in the Bookmarks on firefox?he can increase text size INSIDE the browser (which he has done) but struggles to read the bookmarks.

I haven't found any file named BOOKMARKS.HTML , file is not found!. I have XP SP2. I just got up this morning and they were gone, They worked last night,cuz I entered about 5 new entries. View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Firefox doing things to your Bookmarks was apparently much more intuitive than in In Firefox there is seemingly no way to do things. In IE 7 there is a button in "Organize Favorites" to rename a Favorite but I can't figure out how to do it in Firefox 3. In IE 7 there are also buttons for "New Folder", "Move" and "Delete." I originally started this because I couldn't figure out how to rename a Bookmark. Now I know there is other stuff that I used to know how to do in Firefox 2 but I don't now with 3.

I'm going to be transfering computers so I plan on saving this file on a cd or a flash drive and then opening it up on my new laptop. View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows defender beta2 on my computer. When I ran it, it showed that I had a medium risk possible hijacker on my computer. I clicked to repair the issue and that's when all hell broke loose. I have lost everything on my computer. I restarted my computer and all I get is my desktop background minus the task bar, start menu and desktop icons. I also lost Internet Explorer. I can can bring up the task manager screen and use that to browse my folders. All of my folders are listed but most of them are empty. I am able to get online but since internet explorer folder is wiped out, I cannot surf the interent. I just get a screen showing that I need to install Internet explorer. I can receive my Juno e-mail account. When I go into DOS and type in tree, it does list all my folders and the items that these folders are suppose to include. This leads me to believe that my data is all in my computer smewhere but I cannot get access to it. I have tried to start the computer in safe mode but it won't allow me to do so. THe screen just flashes on and off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend is having an odd computer problem. Anytime she tries to rip or burn a CD her system will shut down - no errors or warnings, just poof, gone. If she tries to reboot right away it will crash on the restart unless she gives it a few minutes of down time before restarting. She's running XP and has a gig of ram but the system itself is going on two years old, bought at a convention and has no brand name. Could this just be an issue of bad ram?

It started analyzing the system then suddenly started deleting a whole slug of files. It finished and rebooted, after which neither of my dvd drives would recognize discs. Windows media player was gone too. Both player models show up on the add hardware list in control panel. I wrote down the models and downloaded drivers for one of them and it wouldn't install them because it said the drive wasn't present. The "add new hardware" said the same thing, though it was on the list.

I then get a series of questions that I don't know how to answer.It comes up with 2 partitions, one hs TON of free space, the C;/IBM_RELOAD, another partition with 1400 mb freeze.I tried the c drive partition and got these warnings about multiple operating systems and the problems, then a warning about deleting files.I want to do a recovery console but not sure.It starts up, I get the XP start screen and then goes black.

My desktop was just the basics, generic picture, no screen saver, 'My Documents' were all gone, my emails were all gone, bookmarks etc. When I opened up my Outlook I had to set it all up again, when I open any of the office suite of programs I need to reset them up.
Yet, Skype was still installed, Mozilla was there, my BlackBerry software was there just without any of the personal info? Basically like my user profile was cleaned out?
Folders I had set up directly on the C: were still there, yet all of 'My Documents' were gone...
I was able to retrieve everything from Carbonite (YIPPEE) and am in the process of getting it all put back where it belongs.. Spybot didn't find anything and the shortened version of Norton did not find anything, have not done a full system scan via Norton yet.
I brought the computer (Dell Latitude laptop) into a local computer tech and he didn't have a clue, basically did nothing except waste 4 days that I could have spent working on it...
Appears that some sort of virus took me by surprise. It wiped out most of my .jpg files (from dig. camera) and my TB email account.The only thing I did prior was run AdAware in safe mode for XP.I use AVG, Zone alarm Panicware's popup stopper.Is there any hope of getting my pics back?

A repair install wasn't working, so I did a complete reinstall. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the entire registry would be wiped.I've been reading around various articles online and I came across something that said "Reinstalling may cause a new registry to be created if more than one XP Installation exists on the same partition." or something of the sort. If this is in fact true, is there a way to get the old registry back so all the programs on the hard drive work again?

My Firefox and Explorer cant connect to the internet even though my machine can and I can ping and get replys back from web sites like Yahoo. View 13 Replies View RelatedJust tonight, my system went crazy. after i pulled out my speakers and plugged in my headphones, the pc froze for a while, then went back to like 4 bit colour. i rebooted and it wouldnt load back up windows. it came to the screen where u pick normal boot up, or safe mode etc only way i can get anywhere, and submitting this, is through safe mode. any ideas what happened and if i can fix it without fotmatting?

The Error code is as follows: 100000d1, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 0000001c, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 ba0a9182. I have tried to analyze the minidump files using the windows debugger tool. It indicates that the error is probably caused by vss2k.sys ( vss2k+6182) and attributes it to a driver_fault. I really have not been able to decipher much more than that.
