I've been doing a lot of research and have yet find an answer anywhere on the web. What I want to do is add folders to my start panel where you would find My Music, My Pictures, My Documents, etc. Does anyone know how to do this?

Control Panel opens and list appears but cannot open some folders such as Add/Remove Programs. Also, I.E. will not start. However programs such as Word will start OK, and will open some files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe root folders of my external drives and My Documents are showing Picture Tasks instead of the Common Files and Folders Tasks. They also show the watermark for images for the background image (when I have this feature on). How can I fix this? There is no Customize tab under Properties for these folders. The root folder for the system drive is fine. I have Windows XP Home SP2.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen i'm on a web page and i click the "favourites" (yellow star button) in WinXP (on the toolbar above the web page) i see all my favourite websites, but the little yellow icon does not appear beside them, so i'm unsure whether they are direct links to the web pages or whether they are folders containing the links !! Oddly enough, when i plug in my USB HD, the little yellow folder icons re-appear What can i do to get the folders icons back (without having to keep my USB HD switched on) ?
View 7 Replies View Relatedwe were using the computer last night all was normal (running very smoothe & fast) get up this morning and turn on the computer log into windows. come upto the desktop click in IE and nothing happens. so i look in the system tray and nothing but the clock is there. weird i think to myself. so i click on start and it doesnt come up, its liek the computers response tme is cut by 99.9%. finally after about 15 minutes start window pops up. i click on control panel (to get to admn tool >event viewer) and after i click on control panel the start window disappears adn nothing ever happens. i religiously run spyblaster , adaware , spybot search&destroy, registry mechanic , and check windows update everyday. i run panda for AV program and it is set to auto update.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've gone through and removed hundreds of viruses and cleaned it up pretty well. However, I can't access the CONTROL PANEL because it is missing from the START menu. I checked the start button properties, and it isn't listed in the customize/advanced menu. It's just not there. I'm fairly certain that I've gotten all the virus and spyware activity off the computer. I've now scanned it with 3 separate programs. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and Also logging on as Administrator (in safe mode), but it won't re-appear. I've even done the cmd: mmc / add/remove snap-in / add "groups" (as directed by another website) but "groups" isn't even listed. Come to think of it, it's not listed in this computer either (xp home).

There is an icon called Set Program Access and Defaults and when I click on it it tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This is a private home computer, not on a system. Though I am a regular computer user I have few technical skills and may have entered an incorrect command.

His start menu shows all the icons for programs but under some things like My Computer, and some others, there is no text or title text. On Facebook, you can see a person's picture on the feed, but no name. In Firefox, with new tabs, it doesn't show what the tab titles are. Control panel too also shows all icons and no title.

Whenever I click on control panel from Start it hangs around for about 30-60 secs before saying 'Dr Watson Postmortum Debugger has encountered a serious error and needs to close'. Afterwards, the whole computer is totally frozen, and I have to perform a force shutdown. I currently use a Windows Xp 512mb ram Pentium 4.

My control panel icon has vanished from my start menu, the link to it in My Computer has gone too and when I try to access it via the Run function using control.exe I am greeted with the message of "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your administrator".I'm sure this is a malware problem I've picked up off the web but I've got no idea of how to fix the problem. I get the black WINDOWS XP screen, then, the screen goes BLANK for anywhere from 3-5 minutes before it proceeds. I have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.
i can't open my desktop folders including shortcuts..when I go to start, i can only open recenlty used programs but not my documents, my computer, control panel & all the tabs on the right field...also when I close a program, the window display still remains on the desktop.by left clicking the current program window i'm using and dragging it around, i can sort of erase the previously used windows.i can only correct this by restarting xp.do i have a virus? pls give me step by step guide to fix this.

(About 1200 mp3 files all inside these 100 folders...all inside 1 folder if that makes any sense)I'm thinking about moving all those mp3's outside there folders so that i have just one continuous stream of mp3's. Basically i want just my mp3's inside the main folder without their individual artist folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can not get a photo or anything other than a "color" to be my desktop wallpaper. When I am in the control panel - display - the only buttons that are active are the "browse" and "color" buttons. The "position" button does not work. I can't even get one of the Windows backgrounds to display. The photo I choose to use is there somewhere because it is visible briefly when I start mycomputer. Then it disappears and is replaced by a "color" only screen.This is a very recent problem. I'm guessing some settings are incorrect.
