I recently replaced my old harddisk to a new harddisk. The old harddisk has windows xp home and other programs installed.I did not format the old harddisk, I only took out the old harddisk and replaced it with a new harddisk. I then installed windows xp home to the new hard disk. While I am installing programs on the new harddisk, I discovered that one of the programs do not allow me to activate the program license because I have previously activated the program on my old windows. I need to do a proper uninstallation to release the license, then I can activate the license of the program in the new hard disk.My question is, can I take out my current new harddisk, replace it with the old harddisk, boot up as normal into the old harddisk windows, uninstall the program inside the old harddisk, then replace the old hardisk with my new harddisk again.
My XP Pro SP2 laptop has a lot of third-party things installed on it, and I'd like to figure out which one causes more-than-occasional bouts of repetitive hard disk access. The 'hard disk access' LED light gets lit almost-continuously and I can hear the rapid clicking of the disk heads moving, but I can't figure out what's actually being done. It slows down *everything*. It's not just page-faulting -- I can monitor "page faults delta" with Windows Task Manager under "View -> Select Columns..." -- something's accessing files a lot. It almost always happens when returning from stand-by/suspend.I know it's not antivirus scanning, because I run that manually and turned off automatic protection. Is there a utility for monitoring how much hard disk access each running process is using up in the last 5 seconds or so? Disk Monitor isn't very useful in that regard.
The motherboard in my emachine was fried. i removed my maxtor hard drive and put it in another computer as the master drive but it would not boot. then i put it it as a secondary drive and it was recognized the drive but i cannot access the files in documents and settings for my user name because it is password protected. it says access is denied. i know the password but there is no option to give the computer the password.how can i access those files now? or is there a way to make the drive boot as a master?
I was wondering if there was a way to transfer the Program Files folder to the second disk withouth messing up the start path of those programs, and still be able to access them in the Start menu.
my computer MB took a dump so I bought a new system. I figured I just boot the new system using my old hard drive. No dice. So I boot the new system using the hard drive and OS that came with it and installed my old drive as a slave. When I try to access the documents and settings folder on the old hard drive so I can pull over the favorites, documents, etc. to my new drive it says access denied. The username and password on my new system are the as on the old one. Any ideas on how to get access to that folder?
If I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.
How to delete a program that won't uninstall through the add or remove programs in the control panel. Step # 1.Go to this site and download Microsofts uninstaller and run it and if the program you want to get rid of is on the list select it and remove from your computer. Step # 2. Click on start , click on run, type regedit, and when it opens click on HKey local machine, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, click on the plus sign for uninstall and it opens all the programs installed on your computer , scroll and see if the program you want to get rid of is on the listif it is right click on it and delete it. Step # 3. Click on start, click on run, type msconfig, and when it opens click on BOOT.INI and check the box that says, SAFE MODE. Boot the computer to safe mode and when it opens click on DRIVE C and click on program files and click on the folder of the program you want to delete from your computer and delete it. Then click on the common files folder and see if it is in there and if it is delete it. Important now, go back to click on start, click on run, type msconfig, and when it opens click on BOOT.INI and uncheck the box that says, SAFE MODE or you will boot to safe mode again.Once I remembered doing all the above steps and it still started up so I ran hijackthis and deleted the entries and it was gone for good.
I had the program "Reallusion ItsMe" and it quit working for me, so wanted to reinstall it. However, when I used Add/Remove, it gave me the message that "error installing ikernel.exe: (0 x 10000)." I thought I would remove the non-working program manually, so I deleted all the files. I then removed the entry from the registry. I did a search for anymore files with the same name and found a few and deleted those too. Well I tried to reinstall the program again and keep getting a message that there is a previous version in my system and it can't install. Geesh, what more do I have to do? There is no previous program left as far as I know, the only one left is in the Add/Remove list.
I am trying to uninstall a casino program, and when I try in Add/Remove, all I get is a window saying Could not find installation path. Uninstall aborted.I checked in the start>programs, and it's not even there. I looked in the folder, and there's no uninstall there either.I'm pretty sure there's a corrupted file or two, so I deleted the file that's associated with the game that we play, and tried to reinstall the program hoping the bad file would be replaced.
I am running Windows XP with a 40GB HD which has only 32MB free space. I installed another 80GB HD as a second (slave). How do I move some programming (applications) to the new HD without having to uninstall and reinstall?
When you uninstall, or in the add/remove program delete, do all the items of the program uninstall. Especially the drivers, I am having a small problem on the computer and I know its due to an unapproved windows driver installed by accident for my sandisk reader. How can you find out the drivers installed on your computer?
My husband and I have tried to uninstall his Medal of Honor game using the control panel program change/remove with no success. Everytime we click on the icon change/remove it acts as if it's going to remove it but then it doesn't. This game has used 2,000 kb space on our computer and we are trying to free this space. Somehow the game has the icon for Wildtangent Games in the front of it and it is not part of that system. We have already removed the Wildtangent program and other Medal of Honor games successfully however, this one Medal of Honor game seems unable to be removed regardless of all our efforts. Can anyone please help us? We've done everything we know to do with no success.
I have Windows XP Home installed on my computer as my OS. Recently, I've been cleaning out my computer by uninstalling programs that I haven't used for a while. However, the uninstallation of some programs fails. For example, I have a software called JapaneseNow! (to learn Japanese) installed on my computer. However, trying to uninstall it pops up the error message that "Uninst.isu" cannot be found and therefore the uninstallation cannot continue. I already cleared off a software called SpanishNow! beforehand, which may have caused Uninst.isu to be cleared....
I recently installed Windows Live One Care on my computer. After installing it, I attempted to open it but had no success. An error message pops up and says "Windows Live One Care has encountered a problem and needs to close." It gives me the option to Send Error Report or to Not Send Error Report. This happens constantly everyime i try to open it. I can not reinstall this program because it is not listed in my Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Also, I tried using their (Microsoft's) uninstaller and i get this message.
Is it possible to lock down a profile in WZC (Windows Wireless)? I am a network administrator and I would like to lock the company's wireless profile to the top of the list, and to prevent deletion or editing. The computers are on a domain fyi, and they must still have administrator rights.
Is it possible to disable the uninstallation of a program? I need to disable the uninstallation of a software that our company needs, while still allowing users to have administrator rights. Again, these computers are on a domain, and the user has a administrator account. Is it possible to change program uninstallation rights to only allow the domain administrator to uninstall the program? Or is it possible to edit the registry or something? I only need the restriction to this program.
I've just downloaded the trial version of Zonealarm security suite from its official website. But after I restarted my computer, the program didn't seem to work, even when I manually clicked on it. I wanted to uninstall it, but an error message shows up that says "TrueVector Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." How do I uninstall ZoneAlarm now?

Am Running Windows XP home with SP2 on a P4 machine, everything running smoothly except that I tried to uninstall a program through the control panel-add/remove route and even though most programs are listed there, only a few of them like 5 out of 40 odd have the change/remove button when the particular program name is clicked. It just shows size, used frequency and last used on, I cannot uninstall those programs incl. the officeXP package. I am absolutely sure all this was possible few days back and tried to get my system back to a 7-8 day restore point but this does not help as well
In registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall " only 5-6 programs are listed and the change/remove button only shows up for these. Where did the rest go?..as all these other programs are running on my computer. What could be the problem and how can I resolve it without re-formatting

I have created a Bart PE bootable XP cd. I can boot into windows using this CD I would like to know how to copy the data in my hard disk to pen drive or flash drive.
It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?
I am cloning my existing hard drive in my laptop (sata) to an external hard drive (pata) in preparation for installing a new larger hard drive (sata)in the laptop. Thanks in advance and I apoligize if this is a rudimentary question as this is my first time attempting something like this.
I can not access hard disk properties because Windows Explorer hangs whenever I Right click on a hard drive icon. I am running WXP pro SP2 completely up to date with updates.
if someone could tell me how to format windows xp home edition from the bios and not using the xp disk. I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format can run if this volume is dismounted first. All open handles to this volume would then be invalid. would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n) so I type y for yes and hit enter then nothing
I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.
