I have windows 8 - I had created a doc on facebook and find that I can not paste URLs into this document.
I have tried using Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 8 and now Firefox.
Eventually I managed to copy on all 3 servers but I could not paste into my document using any of them.
I have now got it to work on Firefox (after several goes)but Google Chrome is my main server (it works better for the things I do), and I believe it is a W8 issue, so how to paste URLs using W8?
Copy menu works ok, but unable to paste because it throws me back briefly to the Metro window. This behavior doesn't work consistently but I have to log out and back in in order to correct it. Even reboot doesn't work.
Note: this is the File Explorer, not the internet browser.
I'm using a Intel 520 SSD (the ssd has all OK SMART, almost empty, and no background programs running).
For example when i copy-paste a small folder on the SAME SSD but on different locations, let's say 50mb, (or some files 50-70-30mb) everytime i see the copy window appearing, says copying, etc.
And on Windows 7 on the same files copy-paste, that procedure was instant, no window appearing that says copying.
And even a 360kb file opens the copying window. I have a 3770k 4.5ghz, 8gb ram, 680gtx.
So it's related to Windows 8, due to no updates to improve performance ?
I had to re-install Windows 8 and now when I select an article from IE on the desktop I can't Copy/Paste it either to Documents or a flash drive. There's no 'paste' on one and it's greyed out on the other. I have looked in past posts no luck.
I can't use the native Windows 8 copy/paste. Copy works, but when I paste, I get the "waiting" cursor, then get dumped to the Metro screen. So far, the only way I can move or copy things is with CFiShellToys or TeraCopy, and I installed these only after the Native Windows 8 Copy/Paste kept failing.
I've already run SFC at the command prompt, and according the the results, all is well.
I checked the Event log, and here it is.
Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107dbc
I use to be able to copy ad paste but no longer can. I have treed with both MSIE 11 and Firefox 25. MSIE 11 does not work at all. With FF I found a work around by copying then at the site clicking on a little box that says Word or Plain Text. I then cv it and the message appears in this little box. it says it cannot work with my browser. Lastly I ok the little box and the message appears in the dialogue box it was meant to be in, in the first place.
Word had worked well in Windows 7, but now, after I moved to Windows 8.1 almost everything is messed up. Most annoying thing is the copy-paste function. When I try to copy something, it can't be copied to the clipboard and some weird cursor appears when I click where to paste. When I try to cut, the string is saved in clipboard and it works fine.
Also, when I run Word in safe mode, all the functions work fine (even copy-paste).
What should I do? I tried Office Diagnostics, but it shows 0 errors.
When remoting from a Windows 7 machine to a Windows 8 machine copy and paste do not function. I restarted the RDPClip service on both machines, this can be replicated on multiple machines (this is in work environment).
We are going to be deploying Windows 8 company-wide once we get little issues such as this sorted out. I'm curious whether something changed that might need to be implemented with our group policy. We did not have an issue with this before so it's definitely specific to OS.
I have an ASUS RT-AC68U router with 9 DBI dual band antennas. I need a program that allows me to copy and paste files to the external hard drives which are connected to the router's USB ports. An example of the application I am seeking is called "Silex Virtual Link", I need one like this, I used to use this 1 on my old D-Link DIR-825 router but it is not working with my new ASUS router and ASUS tech support couldn't solve anything.
When I try to type the number 0 in the number keyboard, I get a pop-up saying cut, paste, etc. This happens in both my word processing program (WordPerfect) and also when I'm trying to type an e-mail. All other numbers are OK. I am able to type the number 0 when I use the regular keyboard.
I just purchased a Win 8 PC (gateway) to replace a Win XP PC (Compaq); both are desktops. The OS (XP) crashed weeks ago; although it was re-installed and seem to work, it was just too much work to bring it up to date. Therefore the new Win 8.
I have a large collection of files on the XP that I would like to bring over to Win 8. The XP cannot yet be connected to the Internet; but its USB ports works fine.
Any way I can connect the two through USB to copy files from the XP to the Win 8?
I have some old software that still runs fine on Windows 8 but with one exception in the way *some* Fonts are being handled.
The old software uses "MS Sans Serif" which is not a TrueType font. Up until win7 this was fine as the font displayed well. In Windows 8, it is skinny stick characters and n some cases, barely readable.
What I would like to do is to make a copy of the "Microsoft Sans Serif" which is a TT Font and copy it to the "MS Sans Serif," over-writing it so that both Fonts will have different file-names but the same contents. Then when the old app runs next time, I will again be able to see stuff.
Problem is when I tried to copy the Font in the Font Folder I got a message "Only a trusted installer can do this."
I have attached the Windows 8 hard disk from my broken laptop to my external usb hard disk device and windows 8 say format the disk as it does not recognise the file system how do I get around this.
I bought a maxell 700mb Cd when i first inserted it to my computer it gave me an option to burn like usb I selected that after that it formatted and then it didnt showed the free space and when i copy something to it says to burn when i click burn it opens media player and media players says cd rom is idle and the name the cd drive is showing DVD RW Drive F and the icon is there is a drive and a cd on it i am using windows 8.1 hp pavilion g6 1242se when i insert other cds they work.
I always get stuck on a couple of steps...things on my screen are not the way it says, or I don't get what is meant, or it sounds like it is assuming the reader knows how to "then, just follow the steps"...but I don't get what is meant by some terminology.
Feel really dumb after having read so many articles and still can't do it. Lots of the articles say to do different things. Not even sure what type of cd to use, I have some on hand I think are okay. Guess I really need a step-by-step walk thru for EACH step.
Comp got really fouled up, and even the built-in refresh or reset made no difference, in fact, made things worse. I want to save the favorites because I'll be reinstalling everything to the way it was new via the recovery discs I had to buy from manufacturer, then I want to be able to put the favorites back on, and hope things are fixed.
here's a link to follow. But I get stuck. Or they will type out the process for doing it, but there's always a few spots where it assumes the reader knows certain stuff.
I was attempting to copy some files to my DVD. I selected them and chose "Send to" and selected my DVD drive. I now got a window saying, "Files ready to be written to the DVD".
(1) How do I get it to write the files. (2) If I wanted to cancel the operation how do I do that?
Every time I put a blank DVD in the drive it comes up with that same message and I can't seem to be able to get rid of it.
I have a copy of windows 8 AIO how to upgrade an exixting sistem or modify it so that it can be installed? I tried to edit the ei.cfg file but when I try to install it tells me to use one copy suitable for 64bit.
I have some videos I created on DVD as well as some personal audio CDs I created. I need a simple disk copy to create additional copies of them. The computer came with Win7 and a stripped down copy of Roxio, but that won't work now that I'm on Windows 8 (bad decision, but that's another story).
I am looking for a way to do these simple copies that:
is not too expensivedoesn't install bloatwareworks (reviews on most products I've looked at are horrible)does not have to do anything else, but if it does, OKworks on the Windows 8 desktop
Any solutions to doing a simple copy of video DVD (personally created, no copy protection) and audio CD that meet the above criteria?
I have a large collection of car photos spanning several years and growing, +300,000. I am now trying to combine them by year of make. There are many files with the same name like "1930 CarMakerName." I cannot take the time to review every conflict at transfer time, much quicker and easier to see them in an Icon view.
Is there any way to have them automatically renamed like every other previous version of Windows that I have used?
I've been trying to send a copy of a photo from the PC to a website, which is normally easy. even sent photos to this same site before. but now when I try to do that I get something called ONE DRIVE which brings up videos instead of my list of photos. how do I fix that?
Got Win8 Pro Retail genuine installed and have a multi partitioned PC.
I am Administrator, and I have UIC set to its lowest possible setting.
I cannot copy any files to the C: Drive (root)... every time I get an error message and it will not let me do anything with the root.
So, I ran gpedit.msc and did these steps..
1. Run gpedit.msc, navigate and browse to Computer Configuration--Windows Settings--Security Settings--Local Policies--Security Options 2. Set policy User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators - Elevate without prompting 3. Set policy User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation - Disabled 4. Set policy User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode - Disabled
OK, now perfect - I have full control of the root drive again... But this sparked another major issue with the 'modern apps' (metro)...
All modern/metro apps will now NOT RUN because they want UIC turned on (as in change those settings back I just tweaked).....
As soon as I turn UIC back on.... metro apps work - and I am blocked from my root drive again.
Is there any sort of advanced options when a file conflict is encountered when copying files? The "Skip x file(s) with the same date and size" option is nice, but I'd often like to skip files which only have the same size and the date may be the same or different - it's unimportant. Is there any way to do this? It would also be nice if, when copying a folder for example, it would display specifically which file was being transferred at the time.
I need to replace a file in windowssystem32en-us and it gives me a deny file to be copied how can I do this so I can copy a file or replace a file. how to gain access.
My friend is running a cracked version of Windows 8 and he got the "activate windows" watermark on the screen.
He wants to buy a legal copy of windows 8 but he doesn't want to format and reinstall. Basically, he just wants to buy it so the watermark can disappear.
So is there a way to pay to register a cracked copy of Windows 8 without having to reinstall ? How ?
A friend's Samsung laptop would no longer boot, and startup repair would run and failed several times.
We planned to restore it to factory original, but wanted to boot to a Linux disk to copy his files first. In order to allow that, we went into Setup and disabled Fast Bios mode, disabled Secure Boot, and changed the OS mode from UEFI to CSM. We booted the Linux disk, copied his files, then reset all the Setup settings back. But now the computer will not boot at all, it shows the Samsung logo screen, then shuts itself off. We reset Setup to Optimized Defaults, made no change.
There does not seem to be any hardware failure since I can still boot to the Linux disk and see the hard drive if I make all the same changes that we made the first time around in Setup.
