Mar 8, 2014As the title says, I've tried connecting my TV to my computer with an HDMI cable, and the video part works, but no sound plays. When I checked the list of playback devices, the TV appeared (as shown below), but it apparently cannot play sound.
I don't think I know anything beyond what I've posted,
Also, as a side note - I am completely unable to interact with any of these objects - I cannot set something as a default device; there is no response when I do it, and disabling the audio device only works until current sources of sound (like videos) are restarted.

The motherboard manual (built the PC myself from components) says an LED should light-up if an ethernet cable is connected, no such LED appears when I connect the cable.

Aug 22, 2012I'm not much of a VM expert. I have a couple of win7 systems running a WinXP VM that I installed manually, in all those cases, the virtual network has always just booted up and worked. Under Windows 8 Pro-RTM, I did a XP VM that I loaded myself (versus an XP mode) and it loads the virtual network adapter but it reports that the cable is unplugged
I'm not clear on what this means. Obviously, it's a VM so there is no cable to plug in. I'm guessing I'm suppose to match that Virtual Nic to the regular (aka Host's) NIC but I'm not see any options to do so.
On the same system I run windows 7 Ult and a XP install and the network loads up on boot.

Jul 7, 2014 I went to a PC-Shop that fixed it by putting another driver on the PC.But now I have a new PC and after 6 months without any problems Windows suddenly decides there is no ethernet cable plugged in the PC. I've googled for hours and hours trying diffrent things, but nothing seems to work . The cable itself is fine because when I plug it into my laptop it works fine. I've updated my driver, deleted it and try to reinstall, which also failed. I tried out some commands through CMD, which also failed.
It is a custom-build PC with a Asus Z87-A motherboard (in-case that's necessary to know) and the driver that's installed is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. OS: Windows 8.1.

Apr 7, 2014I had a hard drive crash the other week and I got a new one and went on and upgraded to windows 8.1 64bit. Well I had a hard time getting it to work correctly but now it seems to start up fine with no BSOD.
My problem I'm having now, is that my internet will not work on it, unless I plug in a wireless for it.
My mobo is rather old, (msi k9a2 platinum) and it uses a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller on it. I first tried to go and upgrade the drivers. It said I had the newest. Though upon reading online I see that they have upgraded the driver for the Realtek to the 8.26.218.2014 driver on 2/18/2014. Well I uninstall my old driver, restart the computer then install the new one from the Realtek website. Then do a restart and still nothing.
It looks like the router is getting pinged or something as it will start flashing in the bottom right with the triangle with the ! in it, about three times then go back to the x in the red circle. In the device Manager the realtek pcie gbe family controller doesn't have the yellow triangle with the ! in it showing that something is wrong. But it's not even reading the ethernet cable is plugged in. I tried detecting the problem and that is all it says is to plug the cable in.
I restarted the computer again and noticed that the number showed up on my router that the computer was connected. When the computer was starting windows with the blue windows logo with the balls circling at the bottom, about half way through the router dropped the number and it doesn't come back up after I unlock the computer.
So I followed the sticky and got the cmd prompt and this is what it is showing...
Restore Sound Playback On External Monitor - HDMI Cable
Feb 19, 2014I sometimes plug in my LCD TV via HDMI cable to my laptop. I use it as a second monitor. The sound used to go to the TV as well. However, I inadvertently deleted the sound "profile" for the external monitor and I can't get it back. (I've attached a screen shot showing where the other profiles are, but missing the external monitor one).
How do I restore it so that when I plug in the HDMI cable the sound will go to the external monitor?
Network / Sharing :: WiFi Unstable - Yet Ethernet Cable Is Top Speed
Jan 27, 2014Since yesterday the internet began to act unsoundly (through WiFi). As in I never had this problem before. There were periods where it was fast enough to play some online games, watch Youtube no problem, and then it would shut off randomly. So since yesterday I have been restarting the modem with only very short term resolutions to the issue.
I accessed the modem through my web browser and it says the connection is always working fine. Despite that, I called my ISP and they claimed there was an issue, and forwarded it to Deutsche Telekom. Since then I did some experimenting and plugged my computer into the modem with the ethernet cable.
Boom. No problem whatsoever. It's been top speed and reliable.
I downloaded and installed updates for Windows today. There are 18 optional ones that I did not download yet, but I did download and install the important ones no problem. I checked the network adapters and they all state "The best driver for your software is already installed."

Oct 16, 2013I have been having issues with sharing my internet connection via an ethernet cable. I read online that there is the ability to 'share' your internet connection. I have learned how to do this, but it doesnt work for me. I tried connecting my laptop. I went through everything and I was able to get the connection (it showed the LAN connectivity icon) however, there was the little yellow triangle next to it. I waited but it won't connect. What I am trying to do with this is be able to play multiplayer on computer games with other computers on my LAN. I also tried to connect my XBox 360 with this, but it doesnt have an internet connection.
Things to keep in mind The only way I could get a good internet service was through my cell phone service provider, so I get my internet connection through my phone via USB tethering
All of the computers I am trying this on have Windows 8 Pro, except for one

Jul 7, 2013I'm having problems with my Asus NV56VM laptop (windows 8). Whenever I try to use an ethernet cable to access internet I either get a SSL-error, the website doesn't load at all or it loads VERY slowly and not the whole website (it says that I have internet acces and that it's not limited). Wireless works fine though.
I've also tested playing some games (ex Call of duty) and it works fine for like five minutes and then I get an error message saying something about packages didn't receive correctly. So I'm guessing it have to do with not all information is transferred when I use ethernet.
According to the Device Manager I use "Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)" and the drivers is up to date.
Things I've tried:
Using a different ethernet cable.
Testing it on a different network (at my friends house)
Reinstalling drivers (both from Asus website and from Qualcomm's).
Disable wireless
Empty cache/cookies
Restarting computer/router/modem
Turning off firewall
Searching for virus (didn't find any)
Ipconfig /release /renew
Tested it on different browsers (I also affects games though)
Formatting my laptop
SSL and TSL is enable

Dec 15, 2013I re-installed Windows 8 yesterday evening (thought it would be quicker than to cleanup and fix my old install) and then directly upgraded it to Windows 8.1. The problem I am experiencing is quite weird: The Operating System doesn't detect the network cable.
With that being said, do not jump straight to the "Did you turn it on and off again" questions. Here is what I have done so far:

Aug 5, 2014We have a nice signal from the router until about the same time each day. Only cable tv modem is available. Evidently the country neighbors do lots of internet during the afternoon.
Is there a way to boost the signal coming down the cable line ? The cable tv company has installed new cables from the pole into the house. We have installed all new cables in the house.
All of the boosters I've seen are for after the wireless signal gets to the cable modem.

Aug 24, 2014So recently (around a week ago), my computer started taking forever to load YouTube videos. The videos buffer "sometimes fully" and still don't play. This also happens with Webms on any website.
If it's related, I also updated my (IDT) audio drivers around the same time this started happening.
This only happens some of the time (with no relation to the length of the video).
I just discovered this only happens when I'm using Skype (or any other voice chat).
This is still happening even when not using Skype. It's getting really annoying. Also, if a video doesn't play and I load up a bunch of videos at the same time, they don't play either. But then a few seconds/minutes later, they all randomly start playing at the same time. It's really weird.
I have done a bunch of tests (by loading up a bunch of videos) and apparently this is caused by Shockwave Flash. ALL of my audio stops working randomly, and on Google Chrome, when I got a prompt to stop Shockwave Flash (because it was not responding), I clicked "stop," and as soon as I did so all my audio resumed working and the videos started. This is really odd.
Apparently it's not Flash because Spotify is doing basically the same thing with my browser closed.
Apparently I'm also going to make edits all day. I'll keep updating everything I find out. So right now what I forgot to mention is that whenever I click the volume changing little button, it's supposed to make a sound immediately right? For me, voice mixer stops responding for 10-20 seconds, then 10 seconds later it plays a sound. Should I reinstall/remove my audio drivers or what? I
I now remember that the old audio drivers I had were RealTek High Definition Audio drivers. I updated them to IDT through the HP website with this exact model. I know I got the right drivers for this model, but this is horrible, all the bugs and general-unworkability of this.
Windows 8 Search Cannot Find Any Videos
Dec 16, 2013I thought that Windows 7 search was bad until I started trying to search for my many videos in my win 8 laptop. I even used KIND:= VIDEOS but the search came up empty???? This frustration never used to happen with win XP. I tried all manner of searches and although I have hundreds of videos still the search could not find a single one. Any third party search that is at least as good as XPs? I often do searches and need to use wildcards because of the plethora of files I have. If possible I would prefer a free search application.
I use the excellent Classic Shell. With my fast booting win 8 (fast booting is the only positive thing about win 8 I have encountered so far).
Debugging :: BSOD When Watching Videos?
Apr 21, 2014I bought new computer parts in January and was having several BSOD issues with Windows 7. I decided to reformat using Windows 8.1 and had not had a single crash up until about 2 weeks ago. It started as a single crash. Then another a few days later. Now I'm to the point where I get several crashes a night.
Crashes tend to happen when watching videos, but has also occurred as soon as Windows finished loading from sleep or restart.
I purchased a new hard drive this evening thinking that my hard drive was the issue, as it was one of only 2 parts I didn't upgrade when I upgraded my computer (though I did reformat my HDD several times after installing the new hardware). I installed Windows 8.1 on the new HDD and installed Windows updates with no issues. But shortly after I got another couple of crashes. I cleared the new HDD and put it back in the box since the hard drive wasn't the issue, so the crash dump files I'm including are from the original HDD. I got 2 crashes on the new HDD before clearing it, and the error messages were similar to what I was getting with the original HDD. (KMODE)
HP Laptop Windows 8 - No Videos Playback

I've sent my friend different video formats, but he can not open any of them.
Does he simply need to remove FLASH, and re-install the program....Does he also have to go into Flash settings, if there is one, and change to ALL FILE TYPES, like Windows Explorer has in it's tools, or settings? he and I also have DROPBOX, but without a player, he still can not play any videos.
What should he try next? He's not that close to me, and doubt if he knows how to download new programs like FLV, or another kind of program to work with this HP Laptop, or even go into ADD/REMOVE programs and delete the FLASH PROGRAM. If you need the model. I will get that shortly.
Does it also matter if he's using the ADOBE FLASH, or NOT? I'm not sure what his laptop has.
I use pinnacle Studio 15, so I can convert almost any video to a format, but playing on all computers can be challenging, with not everyone having the same video players. Mpg, Avi, .Mov, Quicktime, Flash
Import Photos And Videos From HD Camcorder
Feb 23, 2013I am importing photos and videos from CANON VIXIA HF 200 HD camcorder. When I choose "Date Taken" as the sort order for the folder, date is not detected at all. All the files are tagged with date under Dec 26, 1899. I have used the same SD card to import in a windows 7 PC, all the dates are detected correctly. This issue happens only with CANON camcorder. It works fine with a NIKON camera - Dates recognized correctly.
