Restore Sound Playback On External Monitor - HDMI Cable

Feb 19, 2014

I sometimes plug in my LCD TV via HDMI cable to my laptop. I use it as a second monitor. The sound used to go to the TV as well. However, I inadvertently deleted the sound "profile" for the external monitor and I can't get it back. (I've attached a screen shot showing where the other profiles are, but missing the external monitor one).

How do I restore it so that when I plug in the HDMI cable the sound will go to the external monitor?

Audio :: LG TV Not Playing Sound When Connected Via HDMI Cable

Mar 8, 2014

As the title says, I've tried connecting my TV to my computer with an HDMI cable, and the video part works, but no sound plays. When I checked the list of playback devices, the TV appeared (as shown below), but it apparently cannot play sound.

I don't think I know anything beyond what I've posted,

Also, as a side note - I am completely unable to interact with any of these objects - I cannot set something as a default device; there is no response when I do it, and disabling the audio device only works until current sources of sound (like videos) are restarted.

Audio :: How To Enable Sound From External Monitor In Win 8

Nov 21, 2013

My laptop is connected to an external monitor by the HDMI cable. The monitor does not have the speakers but has a headphone jack that connects the external PC speakers. The audio, however, is still from the laptop build-in speaker though the video can be seen from the external monitor. I do not know why the audio does not go to the monitor. How to enable the sound from the external monitor instead of the laptop build-in speaks in Windows 8 when the laptop is connected to the monitor by the HDMI? I hope the audio will automatically go to the monitor when it is connected to the laptop but will back to the laptop build-in speakers when the monitor is disconnected.

Graphic Cards :: Monitor With Black Bars - HDMI To VGA Adapter

Sep 5, 2013

Well I have been having issues with my monitor. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen.

So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?

Audio :: Windows 8 - Music Playback / Sound Stutter

Dec 8, 2012

I upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8 (both running the MS Media Center) and it's created a problem with music playback . It used to work fine, but now I get random stutters. Sometimes it goes 10 or 15 minutes without any problem, but often it's more frequent than that - and it's very, very annoying. The system runs an AMD A8 APU, Gigabyte A75M UD2H motherboard, 4 GB of RAM and Win 8 Pro with MC. I use the audio on the motherboard (Realtek HD audio) and output is via SPDIF to a dedicated DAC (brand is Rega) and then to a Denon amp. I've had no problems with audio from DVD/Blu-Ray, TV (via TV tuner card) or when streaming TV programs via the internet. Music is my prime use for the media center.

By the way, I've tried upgrading all the drivers I can, eg downloaded latest drivers from Gigabyte website, AMD website, Realtek website, Linksys website (for WUSB600N wireless network adapter). There is a newer driver for my TV tuner card (KWorld PCIE dual tuner PE310) available via MS update but last time I tried updating drivers for that card via MS update I lost all my TV channels and had to roll-back and re-scan them to recover.

I have an older MC system (running an Athlon 64 ) which I also upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8, and it seems to have no problem. It uses analogue audio out to an external amp.

I've read that Windows 8 has DPC latency problems and that can cause audio stutter. I downloaded some software which measures the latency, and it was showing a consistent value, in the "yellow" range - which seemed to mean it was slightly higher than ideal but shouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the software now, or where I found it(!!).

Audio :: AMD HDMI Output Not Plugged In - No Sound

Jan 28, 2014

I successfully got bootcamp to work on my iMac, and the only issue that I have run across is that I do not have any sound whatsoever coming out of my speakers.

The sound icon just remains at the speaker with a red cross, and no matter what I do, I just can't get it to work.

In Device Manager, the sound device that is being used is 'AMD High Definition Audio Device', and I can't seem to find an update for it anywhere. Under the sound area of control panel, if I go to the playback tab it says that the only available playback device is 'AMD HDMI Output', and it says that is "not plugged in".

Audio :: No Sound / Realtek Error 0xc0000374 - Nothing Listed Under Playback Devices

Jun 27, 2014

I'm running windows 8.1 on Toshiba Qosmio X875 Q7190. My computer kept crashing after trying to install Sabrent display adapter. I booted into recovery and did a system restore. Everything works fine now except the sound. I have visited Toshiba's website and downloaded the most recent Realtek drivers. When I install I get the error "HD Audio Driver Failure error code: 0xC0000374". If I go to device manager it shows realtek but with an error next to it. If I look under playback devices nothing is listed. I have deleted the drivers and tried letting the computer install them automatically but that doesn't work either. Two solutions I have seen were to disable and delete Microsoft UAA HD bus driver, but that is nowhere to be found on my machine and the other solution was to enable on board audio in Bios, but that optioin doesn't appear in UEFI.

After my first system restore I no longer have any additional restore points, so another restore is not an option.

Audio :: No Audio To HDMI Monitor Speakers

Jan 2, 2014

My friend connected an external monitor to his Sony laptop using an HDMI cable. The problem is that there is no audio from the external monitor speakers. The sound still comes out of the laptop speakers. When I look in Playback Devices, I see what appears to be the speakers as a device (can't remember exactly what is was called, but it was a somewhat vague name like "audio device"), and I've tried various settings, yet I can't get sound from the speakers.

So my question is, does an HDMI connection on a monitor support audio, or does he need to get a audio cable and use the green audio jack that is on the monitor, which I thought was just needed with the VGA connector.

Audio :: No Sound For About 5 Minutes - HDMI Audio In Some Sort Of Suspended Mode

Jan 9, 2014

I have Windows 8.1 x64 and the following:

Radeon HD5450
Samsung TV connected via HDMI to graphics card
AMD HDMI High Definition Audio Device
Realtek HD audio

I have a strange problem that has not always been there but just recently if I don't have any sounds for about 5 minutes the HDMI audio seems to go into some sort of suspended mode and when I click on (generate) a sound (either system or music etc) it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to actually appear (manifest itself) through the Samsung TV speakers.

At first I thought it might be some conflict with the Realtek HD audio so I have disabled this (mobo built-in sound) in the BIOS and uninstalled the realtek drivers. This did not work.

I then thought it was probably an update to the Sound drivers or the graphics drivers for the ATI / AMD Sound card. I have installed the latest catalyst drivers and this did not work. I then fully uninstalled the catalyst drivers including the HDMI Audio and installed an earlier version 9.2.00 from 2012. This did not work either.

The only Playback Audio Device I have in the Sound settings is Digital Audio (HDMI) and I have tried disbling all audio enhancements. This did not work.

Please note that this happens even if I am using the computer (i.e. the screen can be on all of the time and it still happens after a few minutes).

Other things I have tried:

Power Config - disabled Link State Power Management for the PCIe card

One think I have observed (and I am not sure if this is a symptom or a cause) - The "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" process uses about 3-4% CPU while the 30 seconds or so elapses between the sound being invoked and it playing through the speakers. the rest of the sstem is relatively in idle. I can reproduce this by clicking on the sound and adjusting the volume a tad. It is meant to make an immediate "bing" sound to show the sound level is clicked or changed.

If I wait the 30 seconds then the sound eventually comes and then if I click on it again (or do other sound related things) then the sounds are instantaneous. Its only of I leave it 5 minutes or so with no sound activity. If I wait, say, 2 minutes the sound is instant too so long as their has been a sound event in the prior 5 minutes or so.

Graphic Cards :: How To Connect External Monitor With Laptop

May 12, 2013

I have seen some posts on internet, concerning connecting an external CRT Monitor with a Laptop computer. They pretty much said that there might be a blue cable with, and one can use it to connect that monitor with laptop. Now I am confused that mine monitor has two cables; one of which is blue and the other one is white, having three larger pins inside. Both these wires are connected to my desktop CPU. Now my question is that, it is obvious that the blue wire can be connected to my laptop but what about the other one, this wire is connected to the power supply of my desktop pc, and when it comes to laptop, would mere one wire (blue) suffice for the electricity or other things?

Possibly if I was in front of the computer I could try Fn + F5 to see if that works, but he is the kind of guy who does not want to press keys to make it work, he wants it to just work. What might be done to make the second monitor get a signal on a more consistent basis?

Debugging :: Random BSODs When Not Plugged Into External Monitor

Mar 31, 2014

I've been getting BSODs a few times a day when I'm not plugged into an external monitor. Sometimes I'll get an artifacted screen or just a random restart. I thought it might be an overheating issue so I took apart my computer and cleaned all the dust out. While it worked for temperatures a little, it didn't solve any of the restarting problems. The max temperature range has been similar (around 64-67~ degrees C under load) but the min and average has been a little better. (47 and low to mid 50s respectively)

The main filenames that have come up in the BSODs have been ntoskrnl.exeintelppm.sys

My problems started on 8, so I did a fresh reinstall of Windows, updated to 8.1 and reinstalled all the newest driversI kept having problems so I uninstalled the newest processor driver from Intel and used the one that HP suggested. If anything the BSODs have been more frequent.I've done the standard diagnostic tests in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool without any errors although twice after my computer has been having rebooting fits it has frozen up before I even got to the tests.I've done Intel's Processor Diagnosis Tool a few times and have passed everything at load level 8. It says my temperature is 35 degrees C below maximum.

Things I haven't done

Memtest for any extended length of timeAnything y'all can come up with

I've attached the output the SF Diagnostic Tool is giving me.

edit:and if it's not a driver issue, I'm hoping it's a memory one. Since the Intel HD 3000 would share system RAM, if the system RAM was faulty that could be a reason why my computer

1) freezes outside of windows on occasion,

2)artifacts w/ a frozen system,

3) BSODs.

I'm not sure why it would change when I plug a monitor in through HDMI though. I don't know if or how the HD3000 would handle an external monitor any differently.

Graphic Cards :: External Monitor On Laptop Won't Show Anything

Jan 26, 2014

I bought a new laptop without OS, it's a XMG advanced with i7 4700MQ CPU, an Intel HD grafics 4600 chip and an NVIDIA geforce 765M GTX.

I installed win 8.1 and updated all drivers. The laptop itself works fine. Now I wanted to connect an external Monitor ( HP w2207h) The laptop recognizes that there is an external Monitor and that it is an HP w2207h and tries to extend the desktop to it, but the monitor itself says that there is no input signal via the HDMI input and it goes to sleepmode.

When I connect my old Laptop to it, it is no Problem, the monitor shows the extendes Desktop, so the monitor an all cables are OK. (old Laptop : Win7 core 2 duo CPU geforce 9600M GT )

With the new Laptop I have the same problem, when I try to connect it to my LG TV set via HDMI, the Laptop recognizes the TV and tries to extend the desktop ( I can move the mouse out of the internal display to the TV ) but the TV says there is no input signal.

I have set the Output to 60 Hz and different resolutions and tried to duplicate the display or only use the external one. Nothing worked.

I can't force the Laptop to use the Gforce, he decides which one he wants to use.

A friend bought the same laptop and made the same installation, but when he connects to his external moniotr everything is fine, but I don't know what kind of monitor he has and I have not connected my laptop to his monitor.

Graphic Cards :: Low Resolution On External TV / Monitor (ASUS T100 Windows 8.1)

May 15, 2014

I'm trying to use an external Samsung TV/monitor (model LN-T2642H) through HDMI. The native resolution of the monitor/TV is 1360X768, which is also the native resolution of ASUS T100.

If I try to use the monitor/TV as the only display, the device selected is Generic PnP Monitor and the native resolution of 1360X768 is not available for selection. Intel HD Graphics Control Panel only shows 1280X720 (selected) and 1920X1080 (too high for my monitor).

Is there a way to set up the 1360X768 resolution with the existing driver (up to date)? Is there another driver that I can download and that will allow this resolution? Can I use a different version of the Generic PnP Monitor that allows 1360X768 resolution?

With the only resolution available i.e., 1280X720 the quality is bad.

Maintenance :: Making Restore Point From External Drive

Somehow I ended up deleting the Windows 8 boot entry, not deleting the Windows 8 drive but deleting the boot entry meaning I can't boot into it. I have tried MANY MANY MANY solutions to fix it. I've tried using a recovery disk but that just shows the windows logo and reboots and reboots and does the same stuff.

Eventually I just gave up and thought I'm just gonna get rid of this windows 8 which by the way came pre-install with my Toshiba L855-149, and just install windows 7. Of course I NEEDED my files so just an hour ago, I removed the hard drive from the laptop, put it into HDD Docking thing I have which allows me to add the hard drive as an external drive to my other win7 desktop PC. I started copying all my files which I am still doing now. I was thinking is there a way to make some sort of restore point from the hard drive or something?
