When listening to any sound source like Youtube or BBC iPlayer the quality on this Windows 8 machine, HP Pavilion, is ok. If I record the music on either Audacity or Windows sound recorder the playback sounds weird like the speakers were under water. Tried changing levels but no difference made.
View 12 RepliesI upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8 (both running the MS Media Center) and it's created a problem with music playback . It used to work fine, but now I get random stutters. Sometimes it goes 10 or 15 minutes without any problem, but often it's more frequent than that - and it's very, very annoying. The system runs an AMD A8 APU, Gigabyte A75M UD2H motherboard, 4 GB of RAM and Win 8 Pro with MC. I use the audio on the motherboard (Realtek HD audio) and output is via SPDIF to a dedicated DAC (brand is Rega) and then to a Denon amp. I've had no problems with audio from DVD/Blu-Ray, TV (via TV tuner card) or when streaming TV programs via the internet. Music is my prime use for the media center.
By the way, I've tried upgrading all the drivers I can, eg downloaded latest drivers from Gigabyte website, AMD website, Realtek website, Linksys website (for WUSB600N wireless network adapter). There is a newer driver for my TV tuner card (KWorld PCIE dual tuner PE310) available via MS update but last time I tried updating drivers for that card via MS update I lost all my TV channels and had to roll-back and re-scan them to recover.
I have an older MC system (running an Athlon 64 ) which I also upgraded from Win7 to Windows 8, and it seems to have no problem. It uses analogue audio out to an external amp.
I've read that Windows 8 has DPC latency problems and that can cause audio stutter. I downloaded some software which measures the latency, and it was showing a consistent value, in the "yellow" range - which seemed to mean it was slightly higher than ideal but shouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the software now, or where I found it(!!).
I have no sound in windows or in personalization nothing from the speakers, volume I set but no sound.

One part of the problem is what speakers I actually have built into the laptop and cannot look for the proper drivers to potentially fix this issue. The other part of the problem lies with windows 8 itself.
Whenever sound comes out of my speakers, (there only being a total of 2 speakers) it only comes out of one of the two speakers at a time. THIS IS CAUSING THE SOUND QUALITY TO BE COMPLETELY TERRIBLE. How to make ALL audio come out of both speakers at the same time.
Latest version of Windows 8 This will take a while A few months ago Windows 8 quit producing sound through my speakers - overnight. I've tried a number of things I'll list here. Volume Control - red 'x' in bottom right corner. AMD HDMI OUTPUT and HEADPHONES are checked. Troubleshooting Speakers/headphones produces "doesn't appear to be plugged in' - they are. See next sentence. Potential issues that were checked. Check audio device issue not present one or more audio services isn't running issue not present audio device is disabled issue not present I can plug the speakers into a Vista PC and hear music so I know(?) the speakers and cable are plugged in and OK. Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game Controls>AMD High Definition Audio Device = device is working properly. Using most recent driver - Rollback is disabled. I have two sets of audio inputs on the back of my PC. Tried them both (have always used the top ones). Someone suggested checking my sound card - don't know how to do that. One last thing . . . I found an MS article telling me to disable/enable the AMD. Did that but as soon as I disabled it, it disappeared.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI sometimes plug in my LCD TV via HDMI cable to my laptop. I use it as a second monitor. The sound used to go to the TV as well. However, I inadvertently deleted the sound "profile" for the external monitor and I can't get it back. (I've attached a screen shot showing where the other profiles are, but missing the external monitor one).
How do I restore it so that when I plug in the HDMI cable the sound will go to the external monitor?
I'm running windows 8.1 on Toshiba Qosmio X875 Q7190. My computer kept crashing after trying to install Sabrent display adapter. I booted into recovery and did a system restore. Everything works fine now except the sound. I have visited Toshiba's website and downloaded the most recent Realtek drivers. When I install I get the error "HD Audio Driver Failure error code: 0xC0000374". If I go to device manager it shows realtek but with an error next to it. If I look under playback devices nothing is listed. I have deleted the drivers and tried letting the computer install them automatically but that doesn't work either. Two solutions I have seen were to disable and delete Microsoft UAA HD bus driver, but that is nowhere to be found on my machine and the other solution was to enable on board audio in Bios, but that optioin doesn't appear in UEFI.
After my first system restore I no longer have any additional restore points, so another restore is not an option.
Just got my Acer Aspire E5 572g back from repair at Acer Repair Center.
They switched out my prosessor, but now i got no sound. The computer came back with a clean install of win 8.1.
Added a screenshot showing drivers and that sound is "playing"...
Whenever I unplug the speakers jack and plug in the headphones, the sound stops! I have to restart the application or run another one and then the sound is back. This is really silly and takes time especially when you need to restart some game.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought the plantronics .Audio 335 studio headphones, but when I plugged them in, it screwed up my sound. My compute'rs sound is now playing through both the headphones AND the laptop speakers. After unplugging it and trying again a couple times, I gave up and decided to just use my old headphones.
Except for the sound still played through both the headphones and laptop speakers.
Distraught, I restarted my computer. When that didn't work, I restored my system to a point I made yesterday. Still no luck. I've been scrounging google for a few hours now, and nothing is working. I REFUSE to refresh my system and reinstall all of my programs again.
I had my laptop for about a year now. The problem is after watching 3-4 videos, the sound will not work on the next file. I tried restarting and it worked! But after another 3-4 videos, there was no sound again. Another thing is when I open a music file, it works again. But the cycle just goes on.

Okay so I haven't gotten a proper BSOD since the computer doesn't actually power down, the screen just goes black and the speakers play a buzzing sound. It doesn't happen too often and if it does it usually seems to be within a few hours of turning the computer on (I leave it running unless I go away for a day or so). Seems to me the problem could be just about anything from the PSU to the GPU to the software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had sizzling sound from my notebook speakers after i paired with my iphone 4 bluetooth. I am using that cuz of the hotspot thing. I cant use wifi hotspot cuz at my place i occasionally drop wifi connection from my cell phone cuz of the channel wifi uses. At the beginning i researched net very much and found out cuz of the phone channel is my problem.
Anyway in that hotspot after pair via bluetooth every video or mp3 or game sound starts like 10-15 second sound comes with sizzling, wheezy. After that maybe 1 hour or less it happens again. I am using last updates both win and bluetooth device.
Surely I'm not the only one to have a game I'm about to watch completely ruined by seeing a picture preview of a winning player being interviewed in the post game. I would think there would be an army of ticked off sports fans in an uproar to fix this but surprisingly Google search has yielded nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i try to record from my sound card the volume will randomly go up and down when i try to replay it.
When I try to record from my microphone in the microphone input port it gives an odd problem. Whenever I sustain a note it begins to record just fine but after about 2 seconds the volume adjusts down to about 20% of the original and continues to record. It does this in multiple sounds recording software programs. I have skype turned off and no other microphones hooked up. In the communications tab of the sounds menu I have set it to 'do nothing' but this had no effect. It seems like there is some sort of auto volume leveling thing going on but I cannot find where it would be. I have an HP desktop with beats audio not sure about the sound card otherwise.

I've sent my friend different video formats, but he can not open any of them.
Does he simply need to remove FLASH, and re-install the program....Does he also have to go into Flash settings, if there is one, and change to ALL FILE TYPES, like Windows Explorer has in it's tools, or settings? he and I also have DROPBOX, but without a player, he still can not play any videos.
What should he try next? He's not that close to me, and doubt if he knows how to download new programs like FLV, or another kind of program to work with this HP Laptop, or even go into ADD/REMOVE programs and delete the FLASH PROGRAM. If you need the model. I will get that shortly.
Does it also matter if he's using the ADOBE FLASH, or NOT? I'm not sure what his laptop has.

Today I was playing a Facebook game, and I had Youtube playing a song. I scrolling down the Youtube page to see what other songs it recommended to me and my PC crashed. After the computer restarted there was a problem with my video card drivers which was causing everything to be viewed at a different resolution. This led me to believe it was a problem with my video card drivers. Therefore, I checked ATI's website and they have a newer beta driver so I installed that. I was curious to make sure the BSOD was a video card driver issue so I fired up bluescreenviewx64. Its saying the crash was caused by tcpip.sys driver.

The first was a stationary self built computer, and I figured the problem had to come from compatibility issues, maybe some kind of internal arguments between drivers and hardware, so I returned to Windows 7 and thought nothing more about it. Win 8 was still pretty new back then.
Then about half a year ago I bought a Fujitsu UH572 with Windows 8 pre-installed from the factory.where around every 20 minutes there's a 5 second window with choppy playback of sound, no matter which player used. VLC, Google music, youtube, Gom player etc..
This issue is far beyond ridiculous, considering Win 8 is meant to be Microsoft's big save, re-inventing the hole user experience on PC. So far I have next to nothing bad to say about the years I've spent using Win 7 x64, in contrast to Win 8 which so far has given nothing but anger management issues.
For some reason quicktime files are choppy and jittery during playback in Windows 8. I have the latest Quicktime installed with no other codecs.
I tried playback in the quicktime player as well as in adobe products (premiere, after effects, etc.).

The same rotating star video plays fine on my windows XP machine.
The volume for media playback is way to low in windows I have tried everything from disabling enhancements, I also have installed SRS HD audio software also with low volume.
An audio booster, or anything that would boost SRS Audio output. I also after using the default driver provided by Windows 8, updated to the newest Realtek HD driver, and still no difference.
Media Player 32bit will prompt a window with "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." and when I click web support, the code in the title is the error. I've installed a codec pack for Media Player and Media Player Plus, these haven't and probably shouldn't cause playback errors. The 64bit Media Player plays back all MP3s so I've resorted to using that currently, but it means I can't play FLAC files etc.
In the SF thread I initially started, with every MP3 that plays on VLC, it won't always state the codec information, and it's not related to which tracks play and don't on the 32bit Media Player. I've also attempted removing ID3 headers to no avail.
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
When I started a video on vlc, windows media player (classic to), etc, i watch the video normally for about 6 minutes and then everything become slow even the windows system. So i exit the video and in about 30 seconds everything turns to normal.

The laptop is brand new and i have already installed the latest Nvidia Drivers. The same thing happen on google chrome on youtube videos when they are fullscreen..when i put them in "window mode" again they return to normal speed.
As movies/films is one of the main tasks this device will have in my possession I want to make sure I will not run into disappointment owners of first Tegra 2 tablets run into.

So yesterday I did a refresh of my PC (full) and before I did, I would have my speakers and my headset in the Playback Devices, where I would enable or disable which ever one I was usning.
If I was chatting on Skype I would enable my headset and disable my speakers and vice versa. However, there is no option, I have chcked for Disconnected and Disabled devices and still no luck, it's not a USB but more just pink and green colour coded jacks?
- All updates for GPU and Soundcard aswell as Windows are up to date.
- The mic is working and is being picked up.

The Laptop originally ran on Windows 7 and I updated the OS to windows 8 and upon doing this the audio stopped completely from all audio sources (i.e. windows sounds,speakers,line- in/heaphone jack).
I tried Disable/Reenable driver,Rollback driver,uninstall/reinstall and discovered that the driver is not supported for windows 8. Upon learning this I have tried other Audio Drivers (i.e. Realtek HD Drivers etc) and no avail.
I've recently updated to Windows 8.1 and it auto reinstalled the original audio driver and still, no sound. I have also checked all Audio Codecs and still no luck even going that route.
When I play an mp3 on let's say wmplayer the volume bar will move up and down with the levels of the song that's playing as per usual but I get no sound. Volume level can be at 100% and there won't be any noise at all, no distortion, white noise, just silence.
This happens no matter how sound is being produced music, videos, games, internet, windows sounds etc... And trying to get audio from headphone jack doesn't work either.
Any solutions to the out of date driver issue I am having? Seems that the driver not being compatible with win 8.1 is where the errors began. Is there a fix for this or am I best off getting a usb audio driver and running my sound that route?
I am using Windows 8.I am facing an issue with my sound all on a sudden. The volume icon on the task bar has a red cross on it. When I hover on that it says 'No speakers or headphones plugged in' (attachment-1).
When I click on the icon I get a screen like attachment-2 which says 'The peripheral does not appear to be plugged in'.
I checked in the Device Manager to see only 'Bluetooth Headset' listed under 'Sound,video and game controllers'. Also I tried to re-install audio drivers (Real Tech High Definition Audio Driver) which is provided with the laptop to no avail. I don't know whether this is just a driver/windows problem or a hardware problem.
The Playback Devices applet will not open.

1. Run the CP in God Mode to try related applets. Volume Control Options and Volume Mixer will open.
2. Removed and refreshed all audio devices listed in the Device Manager. No errors.
3. Run control /name Microsoft.Sound and control mmsys.cpl from an elevated Command Prompt. The Command Prompt window blinks briefly, but the applets will not open.
4. System File Check sfc /scannow (no errors detected)
Running Windows 8 Pro with Media addon. Using the onboard sound from the Gigabyte motherboard. The sound plays fine on the current speakers, but I cannot change devices.
I have an Asus R503U laptop running Windows 8.1, 64 bit, and the headset has never worked properly with this computer. I am pretty certain it is not the headset, but a settings or software issue..
For one thing, there is no "headset" listed as a separate playback option even after I plug the headset in - however, I can hear through the headset if I choose the speaker as a playback option, and if I unplug the headset, sound will play through the computer speaker, so I have just been using the speaker setting for playback when wanting to hear through the headset.
However the recording/microphone option produces a horrible humming feedback sound when I try to use Skype or record through the headset mic. The recording options are "microphone" or "stereo" and even if I disable "stereo" I have the problem.
My drivers are uptodate - I am using VIA drivers. I have fiddled with various sound settings but can get nothing to work. I have all enhancements to sound disabled and also tried using the trouble shooter to no avail.
I was watching a TV show in my headphones, plugged it out for about an hour, plugged it back in during which time my Dell Inspiron 15 would have gone to sleep about 4 times.. I plug it back in after an hour and the music plays through the speakers and I looked up all solutions. None of them work. Checked my audio drives, disabled the speakers and enabled them back.. It is just a week old, my laptop.
