I have an Acer Aspire E1-572 laptop. Went to connect it to my router via an Ethernet cable but failed to have connection,It works okay on wifi but not on the Ethernet the square box don't show next to the clock.I have looked in device manager for any yellow exlamation marks and none to be seen.
View 3 RepliesThe cable works on a different computer, the computer gets wireless fine (typing to you from it) but will not read an ethernet cable. The motherboard manual (built the PC myself from components) says an LED should light-up if an ethernet cable is connected, no such LED appears when I connect the cable.

View 4 Replies View Related I went to a PC-Shop that fixed it by putting another driver on the PC.But now I have a new PC and after 6 months without any problems Windows suddenly decides there is no ethernet cable plugged in the PC. I've googled for hours and hours trying diffrent things, but nothing seems to work . The cable itself is fine because when I plug it into my laptop it works fine. I've updated my driver, deleted it and try to reinstall, which also failed. I tried out some commands through CMD, which also failed.
It is a custom-build PC with a Asus Z87-A motherboard (in-case that's necessary to know) and the driver that's installed is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. OS: Windows 8.1.
I had a hard drive crash the other week and I got a new one and went on and upgraded to windows 8.1 64bit. Well I had a hard time getting it to work correctly but now it seems to start up fine with no BSOD.
My problem I'm having now, is that my internet will not work on it, unless I plug in a wireless for it.
My mobo is rather old, (msi k9a2 platinum) and it uses a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller on it. I first tried to go and upgrade the drivers. It said I had the newest. Though upon reading online I see that they have upgraded the driver for the Realtek to the 8.26.218.2014 driver on 2/18/2014. Well I uninstall my old driver, restart the computer then install the new one from the Realtek website. Then do a restart and still nothing.
It looks like the router is getting pinged or something as it will start flashing in the bottom right with the triangle with the ! in it, about three times then go back to the x in the red circle. In the device Manager the realtek pcie gbe family controller doesn't have the yellow triangle with the ! in it showing that something is wrong. But it's not even reading the ethernet cable is plugged in. I tried detecting the problem and that is all it says is to plug the cable in.
I restarted the computer again and noticed that the number showed up on my router that the computer was connected. When the computer was starting windows with the blue windows logo with the balls circling at the bottom, about half way through the router dropped the number and it doesn't come back up after I unlock the computer.
So I followed the sticky and got the cmd prompt and this is what it is showing...
Since yesterday the internet began to act unsoundly (through WiFi). As in I never had this problem before. There were periods where it was fast enough to play some online games, watch Youtube no problem, and then it would shut off randomly. So since yesterday I have been restarting the modem with only very short term resolutions to the issue.
I accessed the modem through my web browser and it says the connection is always working fine. Despite that, I called my ISP and they claimed there was an issue, and forwarded it to Deutsche Telekom. Since then I did some experimenting and plugged my computer into the modem with the ethernet cable.
Boom. No problem whatsoever. It's been top speed and reliable.
I downloaded and installed updates for Windows today. There are 18 optional ones that I did not download yet, but I did download and install the important ones no problem. I checked the network adapters and they all state "The best driver for your software is already installed."
I have been having issues with sharing my internet connection via an ethernet cable. I read online that there is the ability to 'share' your internet connection. I have learned how to do this, but it doesnt work for me. I tried connecting my laptop. I went through everything and I was able to get the connection (it showed the LAN connectivity icon) however, there was the little yellow triangle next to it. I waited but it won't connect. What I am trying to do with this is be able to play multiplayer on computer games with other computers on my LAN. I also tried to connect my XBox 360 with this, but it doesnt have an internet connection.
Things to keep in mind The only way I could get a good internet service was through my cell phone service provider, so I get my internet connection through my phone via USB tethering
All of the computers I am trying this on have Windows 8 Pro, except for one
I'm having problems with my Asus NV56VM laptop (windows 8). Whenever I try to use an ethernet cable to access internet I either get a SSL-error, the website doesn't load at all or it loads VERY slowly and not the whole website (it says that I have internet acces and that it's not limited). Wireless works fine though.
I've also tested playing some games (ex Call of duty) and it works fine for like five minutes and then I get an error message saying something about packages didn't receive correctly. So I'm guessing it have to do with not all information is transferred when I use ethernet.
According to the Device Manager I use "Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)" and the drivers is up to date.
Things I've tried:
Using a different ethernet cable.
Testing it on a different network (at my friends house)
Reinstalling drivers (both from Asus website and from Qualcomm's).
Disable wireless
Empty cache/cookies
Restarting computer/router/modem
Turning off firewall
Searching for virus (didn't find any)
Ipconfig /release /renew
Tested it on different browsers (I also affects games though)
Formatting my laptop
SSL and TSL is enable
I presently have a ethernet system to my computer. Getting a laptop that has a wireless adapter. Can I just add a wireless router to the ethernet instead of my new laptop?

My family has reported that there having issues aswill but it seems to be at diffrent times. So I carn't tell if its the computer or network dropping out, I have read that acer has had previous wifi issues a few months ago. This leaves me comfused and how to fix the problem. Its A brand new machine so if it is the laptop why am I already facing issues with it??

I have an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 8.1. My main modem is located downstairs in my house, with a laptop connected to it (it works fine, never any issues). Before, I had a router wired upstairs to connect my laptop to. Here's the problem - it doesn't matter if I am using a wireless or a wired connection, I get a limited connection. I will have Windows troubleshoot the problem, and it always says that the problem was that the Default Gateway is not Available, and it will say that it is fixed. However, this randomly happens over and over anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes after I just "fixed" it.
I have just recently tried running a wire across my house to plug directly into the modem. This worked for a while, but the same thing started happening. Keep in mind, there is also a laptop wired directly to the modem downstairs in my house. I believe (but I haven't checked this in a while) that if I connect to the WiFi from my modem downstairs, it works fine.
I have a lenovo G505 laptop - it will no longer connect to my BT home hub despite it showing as being available. I suspect it might be to do with the fact that it is has a passkey - I entered it yesterday when prompted and it connected fine, but now I'm not being given the option of entering the key.
I've also tried connected using the BT wifi (as opposed to homehub) but once again it will not connect me. I've been through all the troubleshooting options, and searched under every term I can think of, but nothing is working.
I JUST bought my laptop three weeks ago. Two weeks ago, I started having issues where I would constantly lose my Internet connection (wifi). This is not happening with any other devices in my home, including my IPad and son's laptop. Now it's not recognizing Internet connections at all. Acer wants to charge me, says it a software issue, not hardware. It's an Acer Aspire V5-571P.

After I entered the Network Security key, I Kept on getting "Can't connect to this network", troubleshooting didn't work either. Then I updated all drivers from Asus support website and it connected after a restart. I was quite delighted but the next day again i got the "cant connect to this network" message. So I changed my encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) and even updated the firmware of my router. Still no luck.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to troubleshoot a network connectivity issue for my Mom & Dad's laptop. It is an HP 64-bit running Windows 8.1. Up until this morning, it was able to connect to wi-fi. My mother was on the internet with no problems. They have my-fi with AT&T and my dad's laptop and tablet connect fine.
We have tried:
-Restarting the HP taking the battery out uninstalling the wi-fi network adapter
-Restarting and letting it reinstall for getting the network
-Manually adding the network back in
and nothing worked.
So, I took the laptop back to my house and connected it directly into my router via Ethernet cable, but to my surprise, it showed connected, but no internet connection. I ran the troubleshooter and it said that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP config. I restarted the laptop with the ethernet plugged in, but it came back up with limited connectivity and the same error message. I tried connecting to my wifi at my house and again, it sees the various networks, but will not connect. I get a message when I hit the connect button that it is Checking network requirements, but then after about 30-45 seconds it says Can't connect to this network. All of the other laptops/pc's/tablets and phones are connecting just fine.
Two days ago my ISP replaced my modem-router for a new one. Ever since the replacement, my main desktop computer won't connect to the internet "immediately". I checked the connection via ethernet and WiFi with my other computers (even tested every single one of my ethernet cables) and they work perfectly fine, except for my main desktop computer.
What my desktop does:
When I turn it on I have to wait for around an hour before it connects to the internet. During that hour, it attempts to identify something (I guess the IP? - the yellow warning icon gets displayed) and after 3 seconds of attempting, the connection drops and it goes back to saying "No connection". The connection is being made via Ethernet cable and I tried the troubleshoot but it continues to say that I need to plug-in a ethernet cable to my computer, thing is it is already plugged in and like I stated above, the cable worked fine with all my other computers. My desktop used to work perfectly fine with my old modem-router.
I attempted to do do some troubleshooting refreshing my ip using the cmd with admin privileges but nothing worked as it said every time that there was no media connection. My desktop just randomly connects to the internet by itself after an hour of attempting to connect and disconnecting and once it gets connected it works perfectly fine until I restart my computer or turn it off and then the next day it'll be the same thing over again.
This has gotten extremely annoying, what can I do to fix this and further prevent it from happening? - I updated all my drivers and it's still the same. It'll just connect to the internet whenever it wants to.
I just got a new Windows 8 laptop, a Lenovo Y510p, and I've been having several wireless issues with it. Pretty early on my computer froze up so I had to force it to shut down. After resolving the issue, I was unable to load any websites, however a flush of the dns cache fixed the problem right up. Fast forward a few hours, and suddenly I can't connect to the router in my dorm room-I just suddenly lost my connection and now I can't reconnect.
My roommate has a router set up for our room connected to an internet jack in the wall. It is configured as WPA2-PSK. I usually connect to this when in the room, but now I can't-windows just says "can't connect to this network". There is wifi throughout the dorm already, which I can connect to just fine, however the signal isn't as strong.

With windows 7 i was able to do this by going to network settings and all of that and had no issues. Now with windows 8 I plug in my cable but it says the device is an unidentified network an I cannot figure out how to alter these settings.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a router, but the setup keeps telling me that my Ethernet adapter is not working. The Ethernet adapter troubleshooting tells me that the computer is configured correctly but the DNS server is not responding. (During this time the Internet is working as I have the cable plugged in to the computer.) I have the adapter set to automatically find the DNS server. I have run ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns to no avail. Do I need to get another network adapter? My laptop is probably at least 6 years old, and this problem started after I upgraded to 8 from XP - I had the router set up just fine on the old version.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI re-installed Windows 8 yesterday evening (thought it would be quicker than to cleanup and fix my old install) and then directly upgraded it to Windows 8.1. The problem I am experiencing is quite weird: The Operating System doesn't detect the network cable.
With that being said, do not jump straight to the "Did you turn it on and off again" questions. Here is what I have done so far:

I am wondering what is wrong with my installation. It was working A1 a few days ago, except for the issues I re-installed the operating system for.

I can't seem to be able to access my other computer on my home network. Enclosed is an "ipconfig/all" screenshot. I need to access my printer on my other printer which I was able to do prior to playing around with my router. All the diagnostics say more or less the same thing. They can "see" the computer but it isn't responding...
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy ISP provides service only via 802.11. I use laptop A most of the time. The captive portal for the service provider only allows one login per account at a time. The policy is intended to prevent multiple people sharing one account. It's just me, I'm the only user, but very occasionally I'd like to have a 2nd laptop access the internet simultaneously. No abuse, just the simple convenience of not having to logout from A if I need to use B for 30 seconds.
What I want to set up seems simple and it probably is:
WiFi Internet <---> Laptop A <---> ethernet cable <---> Laptop B
Such that Laptop B can share A's active WiFi connection without having to request its own unique address from the ISP.
At present, Laptop A has its network interfaces set up so:
- WiFi is connected, active, functional. Selected the "Yes turn on sharing and connect to devices" in sidebar.
- Under the wired network properties IP Version 4, I manually set addresses to be
IP 192.168.10.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 0.0.0.0
Laptop B has only a wired network, set to
IP 192.168.10.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.10.1
A & B can connect directly to each other, share folders, etc.
What do I need to do in order to get laptop B to transparently use A's WiFi connection? My guess is that A needs to be set up to do some routing between the internet side and the 192.168.10 subnet, and B needs to be set up to look to A as its "ISP" ... but I don't know where to begin.
Just curious ... do PC-to-PC file transfers count towards cable Internet service usage? For instance, if I move 10 GB of data from one PC to another in my Homegroup, is that 10 GB counted as part of the 100GB+ of cable data that I've used?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWifi worked, walked away for 10 minutes, then found that it didn't. I would normally just reset the router, but I live in an apartment building and the router is in my landlords office.
When I did ipconfig /all, my ip started with 169, which I know isn't normal. But when I try to do a /release and /renew, I get the error "No operation can be performed on local area connection *14 while it has it's media disconnected." I am unable to attempt a wired connection, as the router is not accessible to me.
.I'm not sure if this is a router issue, or an issue with my laptop (less than a year old.) I am a grad student and I currently have to do most of my work via my iphone, which is getting very inconvenient.
My windows ethernet network says 'unidentified network' every time i try and connect my Xbox to Xbox live through my laptop. Is there any way to solve this because i feel as though i have tried everything, and may as well go back to windows 7 if possible.

For some reason recently it starting going dead at 40% battery charge remaining. I ran a powercfg -energy from the command prompt and it said that my batterys designed charge is 37000 and last full charge untill the battery read it was fully charged is 36526. I use the laptop on the battery all the time while i'm at school. I was thinking maybe just refresh the PC from the recovery i made using the provided software with the computer. I'm unsure if that would correct the issue.

When I am ussing it frozens and I have to reboot with the I/O Buttom.
I am sharing my internet connection with my roommates, but lately they have been using P2P to download stuff which uses almost all the internet speed available. I have set up QoS to limit their bandwidth in the main Asus wifi router which directly connects to the modem, it works great for a few days, but then it doesn't work anymore, I still get slow internet speed now. Since my flat has 2 wifi routers, one is the main and another one is set up with a different name but still connects to the main router via the ethernet cable a few metres away so that the wireless range is increased. Just for your information, the two routers are transmitting on different channel, if you think that might be the cause and they have different SSID.
Could it be possible that the QoS only works in the main wifi router and doesn't affect the other wifi router which my roommates also have access to it?
I have changed the default router password so I am sure that they have no access to the router's settings.
Yesterday I purchased a new Dell Laptop. In the setup and configuration the unit found my wireless network. I have two other PC's (not windows 8) two Kindles, two Cell phones and an IPAD on this router and all the Dell would say it it can't connect to this network. It won't ask for the passkey, it provides no additional information and I can't get online in my own network with this system. I can however log on to a neighbors unsecured network effortlessly.
I am using an old airlink 101 wireless router that has been trouble free for several years. I tried to log onto airlink for a support inquiry but they no longer provide support for this model.
