How To Set App To Automatically Start When Computer Booted
Nov 1, 2012
I am looking for a way to set an app to automatically start when the computer is booted. What i am trying to archive is a Clock tile that i don't have to open before it shows the time. I am using the app Tile Time.
I am running into an issue I have never seen. I had a friends laptop that i was upgrading from windows 7. I took out his hard drive and plugged it into my windows 8 machine and backed up the files to my pc and then formatted and installed windows 8.
Once I got it all back up i setup the user profile Matt and then took the hard drive back out the laptop and plugged it into my machine to copy the (my docs, my music, my photos, etc.) back to the laptop drive. So i sat and waited for 2 hours while it copied 100GB back to the laptop drive. Once it finished i plugged the drive back into the laptop and when i booted into windows 8, non of the files appear... Nothing!
The computer doesnt even register that i copied 100GB onto the hard drive. It shows only that i am using 30GB of the 500GB drive which is not the case. When i took the drive out and plugged it into my machine to test, everything showed up as it was. So I confirmed i did copy the 100GB to the laptop drive. But when i put it back into the laptop, nothing shows up...
What could be causing this to happen? Is is because when i had it hooked to my desktop (windows 8) it was using my profile and hid the files?
When i goto the bottom left start square that pops up.. and i right click on it. None of the (computer management, device manager, event viewer, etc.) options don't appear. Could the profile be corrupt?
Dropbox is so convenient that I recently bought 1 tb space. So I am trying to make use of its large space.
Here is my question. I use mainly "My Documents" folder (in Win 7 and 8 computers) for creating, updating and modifying files everyday. Then I MANUALLY sync the same My Documents folder with that in the Dropbox.
My question is whether there is a way to sync automatically between My Documents in my computer to that in Dropbox. If My Documents folder in Dropbox automatically sync with My Documents folder in my computer, it would be very convenient. Is that possible?
Whenever I boot up my computer, I always have to go and connect to the internet. It doesn't automatically connect to the internet. I don't want to do this anymore. I tried clicking "Connect Automatically," but that didn't solve the problem. I also tried troubleshooting. It found some problems, and it was the problems were fixed but it still doesn't work.
Yesterday when I watched one of my favourite movies with Pot Player I got the BSOD and my computer automatically rebooted itself. I followed the procedure by making .zip file with SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe and I uploaded the .zip in my thread.
When log in , just after loading "Metro" interface I try to press window key to go to "classic desktop" but until I start some application or even Control Panel it does not appear loaded.
I have recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 on my lenovo z470. Recently I have noticed that when I switch on my laptop with AC power (with battery removed), wifi does not automatically start up. I have to manually switch on the wifi through the hot key fn + F5. However, this does not happen if I run on battery without AC power. The wifi will have automatically started and connected. I have untick the network adapter properties of "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. I have also ensured the WLAN AutoConfig is set to automatic.
I need to start Windows 8 with the Shell and any Explorer.exe processes that may be spawned at a High priority. Is the shell still set in the registry? Maybe I could add a /high to the parameter for the shell? Any time the scanner is used the taskbar becomes completely unresponsive for minutes on end.
Is there any way to disable Windows from automatically placing desktop icons on the start screen? Or is there a way to remove multiple icons at one time?
So there's my start screen and as you can see, the only program that is not Windows' built-in is Skype but actually I've installed several programs. The problem is, the installed programs don't appear on the start screen, like what windows 8.0 did. They showed on the app screen. My windows is MSDN 8.1 Pro.
How to set all installed programs to appear on start screen?
After a windows update crashed during startup, my laptop is taking 20+ minutes on the "welcome" loading bar after you login. The login screen itself it very laggy and takes 5 minutes to navigate. The "Lenovo" loading screens upon startup takes 3 or 4 minutes.
Occasionally a black screen will appear and I cant get past it in the loading process.
I have my laptop set up so I don't have to enter a password each time I start it. But I recently changed my password in my Microsoft account by going into Microsoft.com. Now when I start my laptop, it stops half way giving a message that it has an invalid password. At this point, I just enter my new password and it finishes booting up with no problem.
So my question is how do I synchronize the password that my laptop is using to the new changed password in my Microsoft account?
Just as a note, I forgot the password that I had originally set up on my laptop.
When I start my computer startup is slow and then when I get to desktop all the programs that are set to start at startup don't start. I try to launch google chrome and it never starts. For some reason, when I open folders it opens fast. Now here is where it gets weird. It appears that using the force restart button on my PC.
After installing Google Chrome and making it my default browser, I looked on the Start Screen and could not find a Chrome tile. The All Apps screen did have one and when I right clicked it, it indicated that it was on the Start Screen as it had the "Unpin from Start" icon. After trying various methods of getting it to show up, I did unpin it, which also removed it from the All Apps screen of course, then did a search for Chrome, started Chrome and then closed Chrome. When I then tried to go back to the Start Screen to see if there was a Chrome tile, I was greeted by a totally empty screen. I rebooted Win 8 and everything came back normal (I hope) but now with a Chrome tile.
I have a laptop with windows 8, and everytime (or almost everytime, about 4/5 of the times) when I start/restart it, it says that it's configuring windows, please do not shut down your computer. This takes about 20 minutes each time and is really annoying.
Also, I'm not sure this happens all the time, but the first time this happend I just sat by my computer and waited. There I saw that first it was configuring, then when that got to 100%, it said "Configuration failed", then it said "Restarting" and started all over again, but the 2nd time it finished successfully and the computer started.
Since then, I haven't bothered sitting by my laptop and waiting for it while it updates, so I go do something else. So I don't know if that "Configuration failed" thing happens everytime or only that time.
I recently installed Windows 8 64 bit from Windows 7 32 bit. I never had any problems really with the windows 7 32 bit but since upgrading to Windows 8 64 bit I am having this odd problem. I am a gamer, I have Steam with lots of games and so I play one then play another and another then I go to start a game (It isn't the same game) and the computer resets and does its thing. I have made sure all my drivers are up to date as I have heard that that can be the problem.
I have a laptop that's only about 5 months old and runs Windows 8. When I had to pack it up to go, I went to shut it down, and it started doing the windows update. I closed the laptop, packed it up, and left. When I start it back up, I see a screen with two options: Troubleshoot and Power off your PC. When I click trouble shoot, this is what I see:
Refresh your PC, and Reset your PC, Advanced options.
When I click refresh my PC, it says "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
When I click reset, it says, "Unable to reset PC. A required drive partition is missing."
When I click advanced options, this is the screen : [URL] ......
The four options are: System Restore System Image Recovery Automatic Repair Command Prompt
When I click System restore, it says I need to restart the PC, and select an OS and then select system restore, but I have no clue how to do that.
SIR says "The system cannot find the file specified (0x80070002)
Auto Repair says that it cannot fix my PC. No reason why.
Last night my laptop (lenovo z400 ideapad, running windows 8 - i never updated to 8.1) went to a blue screen with a "kernel data inpage error" message. Tried to boot it back up, but once i entered my password and logged in, the screen looked wrong. The windows homepage had no apps and the background pattern was not the one i normally had. I couldn't click on anything, so i shut it back down and went to sleep. This morning, i turned it back on, and this time it looked normal when i logged in. However, after about a minute, it froze and would not unfreeze. Thats where i am now. I can open the computer in safe mode and it works fine, and through that i can access the event viewer and command prompt, etc. I did a disc repair, no luck, and a system restore failed. Like i said, computer only works in safe mode, so i dont know if I'll be able to do the right procedure to upload the dump file from the BSOD, but i can try. Lots of interesting things in the event viewer. I'm on my phone but i can sample them later.
I have a serious problem with my computer i got a virus that deselected my graphics card and wouldn't allow me to go in bios so i thought that a factory restore would do it, unfortunately i was wrong. It turned off the computer and when i try to start it it just goes to a black screen for about an hour then goes to like some kind of power save mode where the power button is flashing and i tried to turn it on again and the same thing happened. My screen works just fine but it says it dosen't get any input so my computer just isn't displaying anything. I am really scared and don't know what to do?
I have to reconnect my Win 8.1 computer each time it's started,my Win 7 computers do not have this problem. Also my Canon G16 WiFi camera can connect to all my Win 7 systems but not to my Windows 8.1 the camera is not found. Windows 8.1 has been a real bummer. Just glad I still have other computers running Win7.
Yesterday I came home and my computer wouldn't start anymore. nothing happenened so I figured it was my "feeding" (in case this is a weird translation: what I mean is the power distribution)
So I bought a new one, hooked up all the plugs, well not all.
Computer works again, but my hdmi cable stopped working on my tv. I tried hooking up my monitor (which normally runs on dvi) but that also didn't work.
RunDLL Error every time i start up my computer. Im running on windows 8.1 pro. Its a box And it says "There was a problem starting P17RunE.dll The specified module could not be found."
I recently re installed Windows 8 then upgraded to Windows 8.1 because I was having BSOD. Now on the fresh install, which is 4 days or so old, my computer BSOD on start up like before.
I am getting BSOD most of the time when my computer starts up, also a few times when I'm browsing websites. The first few times it happened I did not notice the file name that causes it.
The files that I noticed which causes the BSOD: DPC_WATCHDOG_VOLIATION MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS
What I did that causes this mentioned file to prompt BSOD. I have attached a zip file achieved by the diagnostic tool from this website as told.
While trying to add folders to the Search Index, I was informed the Windows Search process was not started. When I go to the Services Console and attempt to manually start, I am given the error:
"Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer.
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
So I opened an command prompt with administrative level access to run sfc and received the following error after it was complete:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios."
The CBS.log file is too large to upload to here or paste into pastebin, so here is a dropbox upload of it:
What other way, aside from a repair install, do I have to fix my missing files and services?

A keyboard icon shows on task bar but I must manually touch. I am referring to an automatic pop up when in a text box (in desktop, not on Metro where it does pop up). In Win 7 the keyboard always pops up but MS changed the setting for Win 8 - I am running Win8 on a Samsing ATIV tablet
I was wondering if it's possible to take windows 7 from my first computer and install it to my new one that has windows 8 on it (windows 8 has problems with its wifi where windows 7 worked perfectly).
I have an HTPC that previously had Windows 7 installed. I have it setup to sleep automatically after 3 hours in case we accidentally leave it on. I did a Windows 8 Pro upgrade on top of it, and it ported all of my apps and settings fine.
However, no matter what I do, it won't seem to go to sleep automatically. It works perfectly fine when I do it manually. I've gone into desktop mode and verified nothing is running (nothing open on the taskbar, at least). There is no video app or anything still running that would block sleep.
How can I properly debug what may be blocking it from sleeping? Could it be some glitch where it thinks it's setup to sleep in the power options but in reality it's not?
Have Divco PVR with wifi, and win 8 cannot access it easily, my old win 7 laptop can find it all the time no problems, and can see the win 8 laptop and the win 8 can see the win 7 laptop. Originally the win 8 machine could only ping the PVR using the IP address, but ping by name fails.
I followed the advice about changing Network Security LAN Manager authentication level etc. plus in Ethernet properties I un-ticked Microsoft LLDP Protocol Driver to make it the same as win 7. After all these I managed to get it to see the PVR when I typed in the IP address in the address bar in explorer at the Network page. I then mapped the folder, which is working, but this is a rather clunky solution. Question why can't win 8 just find the PVR like win 7.
