I have been trying to find a way to be able to search these PDF files, the only way I have found was to add words in the file tags. I can search OK in Win 7 but the tags do not appear in win 8.1.
Same Files In Two Drives - One Uses 70 GB More?
Jul 17, 2013I had a Seagate MyBackup 1TB external drive. When it was half full I decided to buy another one, the same Seagate, same model, same 1TB.
So I copied the files to the new one and I do backups every week or so for the changes.
Today I noticed that the old one uses 70GB more than the other.
I mean, 70GB is a lot. I checked the files carefully, it's all my movies. Both are the same capacity, 931 GB. Even same color. The only difference I found is that the newest has 16MB buffer and the old one only 8MB.
Just in case it is relevant, I first used a program called Cobian Backup to make incremental backups and so on, but it was a mess and I uninstalled, formatted the new one and copied the files directly.Maybe Cobian took 70GB of drive #1 and they are now lost in nowhere? I don't detect hidden files, hidden partitions, etc.
Win 8.1 Not Seeing Music Files
Jul 2, 2014Libraries are set and I can play any tune by surfing via explorer. But no matter what, if I use the music tile on the start page, tells me I have no music or even audiobooks, no nothing basically. I used windows file transfer , I got my pics and docs, the music is there, windows just doesn't see it on the start screen. Most purchased with iTunes.

Can't Move Any Files
Aug 25, 2013I can't move files from one destination to another.
For example:
I have a few files in a folder called New Folder in my documents, I try to drag them out my that folder and directly into my documents so I can remove the folder. But when I drag them into my document it transfers them all but then if I refresh the window it just reverts to its previous location? It does the same when I move from the desktop to any folder.
as I have put up with it for weeks now and I'm sick of it. My desktop is too cluttered because I am unable to move files.However If i place everything into a folder on my desktop and then drag the folder to my documents that works but then I can't move them out my folder into my documents, my pictures, my music etc.
I have Windows 8 Operating System 64 Bit. I've removed any recent programs I've installed before getting this error.
Can't Open More Than 15 Files At Once
Jul 11, 2013I want to be able to highlight a load of media files and then press enter to open them in the program I've designated.
Windows apparently doesn't let you do it in case you accidentally open too many files, but I'd like to.
I found this solution for Windows 7:
Context menus are shortened when more than 15 files are selected
But Windows 8 doesn't appear to have that registry key, so I don't know if it's called something else maybe.

Nov 11, 2013I have a load of DVD's with classic TV episodes on them - the DVD's are broken down into the TV episodes. I'm getting away from physical DVD's now and want to store these on HDD's as playable streamable multi-media on a variety of devices including Android phone. The .ISO format won't play on Android phones.
When I try and use something like HANDBRAKE to rip the DVD I always end up with ONE BIG file == is there any software around that will rip the DVD into Episode1.avi, Episode2.avi etc (or mk4/mp4).
This normally isn't a problem if I'm ripping a MOVIE but for TV shows I'd like to keep the rip in the same style as the TV episodes.
(Note I've already decrypted and de-regionized the DVD and it's mounted as a Virtual ISO that Windows can handle automatically).
There just doesn't seem to be ANY software around that can do this easily -- it must be possible --you only have to look at the TV section of some torrent sites to see tha people DO manage to split the series up into episodes.

I eventually get an error message. I am not a home posting so I don't have the exact error. It is either oxo or oco 000005. I have Norton 360 and it says the file is safe. Lost Win 8 Setup Files
Jul 1, 2013I downloaded and installed Windows 8 Pro several months ago (a year ago?). I used it for several months and was reasonably satisfied with it. But LogMeIn ws not compatible with Windows 8 at the time, so I uninstalled it and returned to Win7.
Since the time I uninstalled Windows 8, the external HD that the setup files were stored on crapped out and I lost everything on it. I do have the activation code. My question is whether or not I can re-acquire a genuine copy of Windows 8 without having to purchase another copy of Windows 8 Pro?

Windows To Burn Files To A DVD?
Mar 23, 2013Trying to use Windows to burn files to a DVD. I go into the explorer window. Click share. Then burn to disc. Sometimes it gives me the error that the folder is in the same location of the source folder. And now it just the destination has the same names. And wants me to cancel or replace. If I replace it just hangs there. I used Nero and was able to write to the DVD fine so I know its not a DVD issue. It opens a duplicate window and at the bottom of the files it lists the new files ready to be written.

Sep 15, 2014 I use the Commandline with just about everything I do on my laptop, often utilizing batch scripts that I've written, from editing, renaming, moving, timestamping, exif manipulation of my image files to SET-ting variables etc..
There remains quite a bit of internal commands that I'm not familiar with. One of them being the "sort" command of which I think may be responsible for my current issue.
I read a little about it via the "/?" command then gave it a little input until it occurred to me from the returns that command was supplying of which were no returns at all, that I was not doing things right so I got bored and went onto something else. It seems that since that time, all my text files have had "par" appended to them. and I don't know how to correct this.
At one point It looked like this would only happen if I opened them from the command prompt but then noticed "par" was there if I double clicked the text file. Is this something to do with that "Sort" command or is it something else all together? And, how in the heck can I fix it because it's really getting on my nerves as I'm creating some Tutorials pages utilizing "Choice" and "More" with cmd.exe being the viewer and every time I format some text, get it all prettied up for the tut program command muffles it up with that damn "par"!

In the past when I was looking for a folder or file I pressed START and keyed in what I was looking, a name or unique words. How do I do that using Windows 8.1?
