Scanning device is an HP Photosmart All in One HP 2575. i first installed it as an USB device and Windows Fax and Scan recognized it and scanned nicely. I then installed it as a network device and WFS would not recognize it as a scanning device when I unplugged the USB cable. It prints just fine but will not scan.

View 9 Replies View Relatedan error message in Device Manager when installing the network attached storage drives like MyBook Live, the drives themselves seem to work fine and i have access to them (most of the time) on my home netwok, however i keep getting that little yellow triangle telling me that something is wrong, specifically:
the device manager error code is This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I've once again encountered this problem with my Canon PIXMA MP620 printer/scanner: when using it wirelessly, it can't print. According to 'Devices And Printers', it's offline and therefore most programs I use in Windows 8.1 claim it can't print.
However, using Canon's program 'MP Navigator', it can scan from the printer without any problems. I can scan from the computer to the printer and the other way around. Therefore I'm suspecting that the problems lies with Windows 8.1 and not the printer. The connection is obviously there but Windows doesn't seem to think so.
I can't find a solution in the printer's manual, Windows doesn't give me anything when I try to troubleshoot the printer in question, and Canon's own 'Network IJ Tool' can find the printer but says it's doesn't work without clarifying why.
When I turn on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, it does not see my i-phone hotspot. Wi-Fi status says "No Wi-Fi connections available". I always have to turn the hotspot off and then back on after the laptop is up and running for the laptop to find it. This does not happen with my desktop. It sees the i-phone hotspot without the need to cycle the hotspot off and back on, so I'm thinking that it has to do with the Toshiba rather than the i-phone. Both laptop and desktop are running Windows 8. Not a big problem, but I thought some one may know of a setting which I need to change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOn all of our Windows 8.1 clients, every time a user tries to add a printer using the 'add a printer' wizard, it triggers alerts from our secure network devices indicating that someone's trying to log in to them with SNMP.
We need the failed logon notifications but it's incredibly annoying to get these all the time.
Any way to disable the SNMP scan when adding printers? Windows 7 didn't do this. Nor did windows 8 base as I recall.
I am using the N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router DGND3700v2 This has 2 channels 2.5ghz and 5ghz .
On my main desktop windows 8 has sucessfully found and connected wirelessly to the 2.5ghz connection. However, when I want to do video streaming the 5ghz connection would be better.
On my other devices I can search / scan for all available connections and I can see both the 2.5 and the 5 connections. For example, my laptop running windows 7 can see both connection and I can choose which one i want to connect too.
However, Windows 8 seems to have locked into the 2.5ghz connection and cannot see the 5ghz connection . Is there a way to force Windows 8 to scan again so it can see the 5ghz connection ?
so i opened my port 25565 (or so i thought) went to test to see if its open on multiple sites and....all of them say its closed.

But... My wireless sees nothing, and when I check the device manager for the network adapter info, it's enabled and it reports that it's working fine. the wifi switch is definitely set to on. With "show hidden devices" turned on, this is what I see for network adaptors:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not truly the best with computers, and this is a new pop up for me. I just purchased this new dell laptop in May and have had no problems with it. However, in the last few weeks I've been getting a new pop up in the right hand corner. My house hold have a wireless router that is password protected. I have McAfee Security Center updated, and shows that all my firewalls and security systems are on and active.
However, this is the message I get and I'm concerned about my networks safety:
"Unknown PC or device detected
This PC or device has connected to your network:
IP Adress xxxxxxx"
I've opened my action center to make sure everything is okay, and the only thing I find that isn't turned on is the "Network Access Protection" - which is something I haven't touched before, nor does it provide a link in which to turn it on.
I have never used 'Bluetooth' before. I want to transfer a file between my laptop and Android tablet. I turned Bluetooth 'on' (which I have installed the latest driver) on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I turned Bluetooth 'on' on my Android 4.1.1 tablet. I had my laptop search for 'Bluetooth' devices, but my tablet is never found. Is there something I am doing wrong?

View 9 Replies View RelatedLast part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???

Potential client running Windows 8.0 (trying to avoid 8.1) Pavilion g6
Potential host running Win7 pro (fully updated) and the same desktop is the host of the wifi I'm using.
So far working:
-Remote desktop from Windows 8 into win7 (wireless).
-Folder sharing both ways (no homegroup, but direct sharing) (wireless).
Allthough, while uploading from Win7 into Windows 8 it occassionally looses connection, failing upload. However downloading same files from Windows 8 using same network works flawless. Also again using win7 sometimes doesn't find folders until using premade shortcuts. Maybe relevant, or not.
Problem: While trying to use Remote Desktop from Win7 desktop into Windows 8 Pavilion laptop I get that "...one of these reasons" error.
This while rightclicking on the Windows 8 pc in the win7 view of the network (choosing remote desktop option), so I know that the name is spelled right, it's in the network!!!
So far tried: Setting up Windows 8 to receive remote desktop as given here in these forums, allthough while on
SystemProperties-->Remote-->Advanced I do NOT get the remote desktop menu view, only Remote Assistant settings with hour setup and such.
Tried to connect:
-Both firewalls down, also client Avast down.
-From the network with right mouse click.
-Manually inputting the computer name into Remote Desktop
These PC's are not on the same WIFI, only same network. I Don't know how to get the network host into it's own wifi network. For example, I can't get my iPhone to connect wireless into iTunes because they are not connected into the same wifi, only Windows 8 is "connected" in the wifi, win7 is "merely" sending it, at least that's how I've understood the problem why I must upload/download stuff with manual wire connection with my phone.
I brought my laptop to work and wanted to connect to my work's network so I could access our shared networks. In the past I was able to log into my work's domain, nahrc, with my user name and password via the ctrl+alt+dlt method fromt he log on screen. I can plug in the ethernet cable into my laptop, and the nahrc network appears in the wired connections area, but I can't seem to connect/access our shared drives. Is it possible to log into my laptop like you could in windows 7 and access my account, or is this just not possible anymore.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop running Windows 8.1. i7, 8BG ram, 2GB Nvidia card--all that stuff. It ran perfectly for nearly a year. But now, the local area network is broken. I haven't done anything different or changed anything that would affect it, as far as I know. But now that it's summer, I have lots of free time but I can not lan any games with people, which sucks. So I googled and googled, tried the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (or whatever it is), tried ipconfig resets and stuff, and none of that works. The wireless lan adapter Media State is still "Media disconnected."
I took this screenshot AFTER I did OneKey Recovery (which is a factory reset). It set my computer back to the original settings: Windows 8, full of bloatware, etc. I did this reset last night, updated it, updated it to Windows 8.1, updated Windows 8.1, and finally, before I went to bed, tested the LAN. It worked, I was able to connect to my Dad's Minecraft world. So I set my laptop to start re-downloading my games (reset deleted all my data), and when I opened it up this morning to play Minecraft with my family, the LAN was not working again. I couldn't connect (or even find) the lan games.
So on startup it says I have a connection and I have internet access, but whenever I try to load a page it won't load. I have to wait a couple minutes for my internet to work. Also I have the latest drivers for my network card.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought an HP laptop brand new from Best Buy. It had a 750gb hard drive, Intel Core i3-3130M processor, 4GB RAM, and Windows 8.1. I made restore discs of the hard drive that came with the computer, and then disassembled the entire laptop to access the hard drive and swapped it out for a 128gb SSD. I reassembled everything once I successfully used the restore discs to boot using the SSD.
The good news is: my SSD works great. My computer takes about 3 seconds to load up!
The bad news is: I cannot get the Wireless Internet to work for the life of me. I have gotten it to connect wirelessly a few times. I even got it to connect uninterrupted for a few hours, long enough to download my usual virus protection and whatnot. Now, it will not connect at all.
Details: Airplane mode is off. Wi-Fi is on. I am on a college campus with campus-wide Wi-Fi. Many people around me are actively connected. It is not a problem with the router. However, my Networks show "No Networks Found." Maybe 1 out of 20 times I check for wireless networks, it will show the school's networks. If I try to connect to it, it says "Can not connect to this network."
I don't think that anything I did inside of the laptop physically altered the network adapter. The only thing I touched anywhere near there was a motherboard plug for the keyboard, which I removed and replaced. The problem is, I do not know for sure if the WiFi worked flawlessly before I switched out the hard drives because I never intended to use the hard drive that came with the computer. I turned on the computer long enough to make restore discs before I took it apart. I vaguely remembered seeing a limited connectivity alert but I didn't think anything of it because I was in the midst of making restore discs and had no reason to use the Internet. I suspect that it is not an internal issue because I have gotten it to connect successfully since I switched drives. Also, plugging the laptop in with an Ethernet cord allows me to access the Internet. However, this is not feasible for when I need to use the laptop away from home.
I have read multiple threads stating issues with Windows 8.1 having major Wi-Fi connection issues, including those I am describing. However, all of the things I have done do not seem to be working. I've tried allowing HP Support Assistant to recommend a driver, I've manually downloaded drivers, I've altered the settings to keep my computer from putting my adapter in "sleep" mode. None of these things have worked.
I have three computers that are used for different purposes. I want to be selective on which files/folders have local copies on the different machines. Here's an outline of the system and the goals:
One SkyDrive account with folders F1, F2, F3.
Laptop 1 runs Win7Pro and needs local copies of folders F1, F2, F3
Tablet 2 runs Win8Pro and needs local copies of folders F1, F2
Laptop 3 runs Windows 8.1Pro and needs local copy of F3 only
Can this be done?
My wifi only works correctly at home. When at home, I have no problem and a good, solid internet connection. When I am anywhere else (friend's house, school, work, even my phone personal hotspot), I can connect to the internet with no problem, and it even shows as "internet" on the wifi screen so I know it is getting it. However, when I attempt to load a webpage it shows as if there is no internet. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. I have done the ipconfig renew and release, when I do release it says "media disconnected". I have also tried forgetting the network and reconnecting.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the internet in these locations to troubleshoot.
I recently bought a new laptop (Lenovo T440s, Win 8.1 Pro w/ update 1, Intel 7260AC). I've tried connecting via wireless in multiple locations, and haven't had any problems except in one location, which is at my office's public access WiFi. I can get onto the network and get internet access on my win7 laptop, and on my Surface 2. With the new Lenovo it appears that I've connected to the wireless network, but have no internet connection. When I initially select the network I get connected, and can open a web page. But then it switches to a "limited" connection and I no longer have access.
Windows defender/firewall is on. No other security things that I know of (I deleted the Norton trial that came with it).
There is a screen that comes up when I log on with any device that asks you to accept that you will not download porn, steal the firstborn child, etc. I've bookmarked the page and been able to push the button to agree, but I still lose the connection shortly after that.
I don't have the internet connection anywhere on the computer (this isn't just a browser issue).
I've tried reinstalling the wireless driver. No luck. I have the most recent version (17), and I've also tried installing the Intel PROset/wireless software as noted in this thread (BT Public Wifi works on Windows 7 but not Windows
8.). But quite honestly I'm not totally sure what to try doing after that is installed. I ran the diagnosis tool, and got a failure on the ping test (No Response: default gateway, DHCP server).
I have a home network with an XP system with a printer attached and shared. A Windows 7 laptop and my old XP laptop from work can print fine, but a new Windows 8 laptop won't print. Sharing from the XP system works as I can read files from the XP system on the new Windows 8 system. When I do an Add Printer on the Windows 8 laptop, I can see the network printer and install it and the driver so the printer shows up as installed on the Windows 8 system. The Print Test Page does not work nor printing from WordPad. I turned off the Firewall on the XP system in case that was the problem.

It's just the button in the bottom right hand corner (the wireless signal bars) doesn't do anything after I click it on my windows laptop.. It happens every so often disallowing me from connecting to the Internet in times when I need it.
For the past month i have been getting disconnected from my favourite game guild wars 2, after researching the error code it has been linked back to the DNS error. i have restarted, factory reset the router, restarted windows, formatted windows, disabled and re-enabled the Ethernet Port on my computer but have had no success, sometimes restarting the router fixes the problem, and sometimes it doesn't.
I have changed the ipv4 connections to use the Google server addresses, but this did not fix the problem
I have also used the ipconfig/flushdns command which also does not work
The game client Steam will connect, but Team-speak 3 and other websites will not.
