Jan 11, 2013I know posts have been circulating around this topic but none that directly address my needs. I just recently did a fresh install of Windows 8 onto a brand new SSD. I then set all of my documents to be on my traditional hard drive. Everything worked perfectly for about one day then my metro apps stopped connecting to the internet. I am on the internet currently using the desktop application of Chrome and all of my desktop applications connect to the internet. Additionally my computer tells me it is connected to the internet and troubleshooting identifies no problems.
Here's the problem all of my metro apps will not connect to the internet. The "Store" app says that my computer is not connected to the internet. The weather app opens but does not refresh, and most of my apps do the same thing. they have a constant loading symbol.
I have no antivirus installed. I did install PocketCloud Windows Companion VPN service so that I can access my computer with my tablet. I have scavenged all the forums and there seems to be no answer. Is this just a problem of Microsoft's?

Feb 14, 2013I connected an Ethernet cable at my workplace to a Windows 8 laptop. At the bottom right in desktop, the network symbol has a yellow exclamation sign and says "No internet access"/"Limited". This is a secured intranet, so I logged in with my company credentials when the browser started.
The IE browser connects to the internet normally. When I open metro apps such as Weather, it says the Internet is offline.

Mar 29, 2014I just bought a new computer with windows 8.1, and can find no way to disable my internet connection. This is a home computer, and I don't need or want it on all the time. Is there a way to disable it short of disconnecting the Ethernet cord?

In my wifi indication, it sais "limited", but when i enter the web, i can search in the internet without probs. When i go to net. and sharing center, i cant see any network. Jul 13, 2014I am facing a strange problem with my internet connection on Windows 8.
I have a netgear WNR612 wifi router and two laptops connected to it running Windows 7 on first and Windows 8 on second.
The connection in Windows 8 laptop shows sufficient signal strength but when I try to access internet, it does only shows connecting. I have changed browsers, wifi router, adsl router, released and reconnected IP address, forgot and re-added wifi network, reset wifi router to factory almost everything.
The strange part is that as soon as the other Windows 7 laptop is disconnected from the network, Windows 8 internet start working fine. I have tested this many times and there is no doubt in this behavior.
I dont know whether the problem is in any update installed on Windows 8 the older Dell Wireless 1703 wifi card or some virus in the other Windows 7 laptop.

Feb 3, 2014I have a Samsung ATIV Tab 3. It has Windows 8.1.
Long story short, my Apps are not connecting to the internet following some disastrous anti-virus faffing about. I've now removed Norton and AVG completely and have avast (but reading elsewhere here, I believe that I should probably get rid of that as well?).
Now, I've got to the point, through your very good forum, of understanding that I need to do this Run CMD 'Command Prompt' as administrator. In the command line type: netsh winsock reset Press enter then restart your PC, the problem solved. So I tried that, but it hasn't resolved the problem.

Oct 24, 2013I set up my 8.1 installation, played with all the apps, got used to how M$ wants the future to be...and this morning when I turned my PC on, it said it was installing some updates. No biggie.
Now today I am having a bad time with some of the Apps. Skype for example(though this seems to be a known issue?) loads for about 4 seconds then CTS(CrashToStart). Photos will let me look around for about ten seconds, then CTS. Reading List, CTS soon as it looks loaded.
I have tried re-installing the apps, to no avail. or a hotfix will be released, because a refresh would be a sucky option just for it to break again.
Windows 8 On Aspire One Netbook - Metro Apps Not Working

Jul 23, 2013I had this problem where the metro apps could access the internet when i used a usb modem. The problem just disappeared but for the metro apps to use the internet on the usb modem i had to connect it via the modem's dashboard. If i connect via the Network side bar(the blue one with the list of networks), metro apps won't work.
I used to get this error before ''datamarket.accesscontrol.windows.net could not be resolved'
Another problem came up. When i use a cdma modem(ZTE Modem) and i connect it via its dashboard, metro apps won't access the internet.
Another thing is that not all metro apps behave this way. The mail app,internet explorer,messaging and people app always work.
From the screenshot you can see that the Internet explorer works but bing search doesn't.

Sep 11, 2012My weather, news, finance, travel and maps tiles can never connect to internet even though I can, at the same time, browse and download. I tried to figure it out in many ways but failed eventually . When I click any of those tiles, it opens and a message pops up and says the app cannot connect to the internet. The network indicator on top-right side of the tile also shows 'Offline'. The tiles show sample data only. My computer gets automatically connected to internet after log in. So the tiles should have got connected.
I have windows 8 pro .

Sep 10, 2013I've been using Flash Player in the Metro version of Chrome for quite a while now, and it's been fairly useful since the the Metro version of IE is oddly crippled. I like the Metro interface, but not the way web browsers have been crippled to use NO plugins.
Just today, Chrome started giving me a pop-up message saying that I can't use Flash Player unless I run in legacy/desktop mode.
Is this just my version of Chrome messing up in some way, or was this change actually made? I really don't understand why on earth they would cripple the Windows 8/Metro mode all of a sudden. What's going on?

Dec 1, 2013So recently the Windows Store has stopped working for me (Win 8.1 Pro). By not working, I mean that whenever I try to install an app, I get the following error message:
Your purchase couldn't be completed. Something happened and your purchase can't be completed.
Error code: 0x80240017.
Furthermore, apps are not updating automatically, and a manual check reveals no updates available. That being said, I know for a fact that my Facebook and OneNote apps are out of date, since they have both changed on my other computer. As a test, I uninstalled the OneNote app, and now I can't re-install it.
So far I've tried:
-The apps troubleshooter.
-The windows update troubleshooter.
-WSReset.exe
-SFC.exe (no violations found)
Apps / Software :: Office Work File Error - Can't Access Temp Internet Folders
Jun 12, 2014I recently installed Windows 8.1 from scratch. After installing Office 2013, I'm getting this error when launching Word: "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable." If I try to create a new spreadsheet in Excel, I get this error: "Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space." Memory and disk space are plentiful and definitely not the problem here.
Also, I can't save or open files downloaded with Internet Explorer, which I believe is related (explained below).
I tried running winword.exe /r and re-installing Office, but the problem remains.
I've verified that HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell Folders is set to %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsINetCache in the Registry.
Research seems to indicate that the Temporary Internet Files location in Internet Explorer (!) is the likely cause of the problem. Internet Explorer shows the Current location field of Temporary Internet Folders is blank.
I've tried changing/setting the Temporary Internet Files folder to both C:UsersProfileNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsINetCache and C:UsersProfileNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet Files, but I get this error: "Windows is unable to gather information about the location you have chosen. Please select another, or verify that you have access rights to the location." I'm running an Administrator account.
If I try to open either of those folders in Explorer, I get this error: "C:UsersProfileNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsINetCache is not accessible. Access is denied."
I've tried Taking Ownership of both folders. I've tried removing the Read-Only flag from both folders. I've tried editing the security permissions and adding my specific profile name (Administrators is already there). I still can't access those folders.
Windows 8.1 RTM No Automatic Internet Connection
Sep 16, 2013I was using Windows 8. My internet is "Radio" using a Bullet which is connected to my PC. So, I create a new Broadband connection (PPPOE) unde Windows. After creating it, I put the "service" and manually connected to the internet. But after restarting, and loggong into my account it shows me a windows where I had to put login and password, and I also marked "automatic connection when login, and worked fine.
After installing Windows 8.1 Preview it seems that it was removed. Because after creating a new connection and restarting my computer, there isn't any window anymore to create my automatic connection. I can connect only manually clicking on the Icon on tray.
I thought that this option of windows 8 would be back on final release, but it wasn't. How can I can configure my computer to connect automatically after login to my account, because I don't like to connect all the times manually.

Setup Installation :: How To Install Windows 8 With / Without Internet Connection
Dec 13, 2013I bought a desktop with windows 8 on it. Decided to put seven on it, found out the drivers didn't work. I am trying to go back to 8, but I cannot install 8 on 7 due to no internet connection (the product key won't activate as there is no connection). I cannot install Windows 8 from USB/dvd from the boot up. My computer doesn't let you select the DVD/USB option, even though I changed it in the bios where it would prioritize the USB/DVD before booting.
Anyways, is there away around this? I just want to get Windows 8 back up and running. : ( I have also bought a Windows 8 pro key a while back (for my own laptop, deactivated now). I really want to put it on my new computer...
As of now, I am stuck with Windows 7 with no internet connection. The farthest I can get to is entering the product key and the installation stops because I have no internet connection due to faulty drivers.

Mar 22, 2013My laptop keeps losing internet connection. It appears to remain connected to the router but not have actual internet connection. I have pinged the router thousands of times and have no packet loss so I don't suspect that is the problem. I've tried the internet connection on a computer running Windows XP, one running Windows 7, and one running Mac OS X and none of them have trouble staying connected, so it appears to be a problem only with this laptop.

Jul 22, 2014I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both.

Apr 14, 2013I have had my windows 8 laptop since January and have had absolutely no problems with it until now. i recently just took my laptop away on a holiday with me for a couple of weeks where i did not have any internet connection. The laptop was working fine and had no issues with playing a few games or watching movies etc. I just got home and started my laptop when i noticed no programs would open including (google chrome, internet explorer, various games and applications including the windows 8 menu screen programs).
However the only program that did open for me was files explorer. my first instinct was to restart my computer, so i did go to the settings button and selected restart. after waiting a couple minutes and not seeing and progress i held the power button in and then turned the computer back on. the same thing happened again and i again tried to restart my computer through the settings menu. however this time the restarting screen appeared, however after watching this screen for 20-30 minutes with no signs of updates or the like, i again held the button down to restart.
I did some googling and found users facing similar problems and mentioned about it all being involved with internet connection. i turned my internet off on the laptop and restarted the computer once more, when it came back on, all the programs worked as usual so i turned my internet back on, and as soon as i did, the computer refused to open any new programs. i went on my computer offline and deleted my newest programs and files i had installed the last time i had internet as well as running a full system scan on norton, norton could not detect any problems and the computer still refused to work online.

Oct 20, 2013I recently updated from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 using Microsoft update. After the update was completed, I've started to have problems connecting to the internet using a wired connection. NOTHING else has changed since the update. If I reboot, it works for less than 30 minutes and then the connection switches to "limited connectivity" with no way to revert it back to the usual status. If I reboot the computer, it works fine again for a little bit. Oddly enough, if I connect the computer to the exact same router using wireless, it does not seem to be dropping the connection.
I'm using a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with the factory Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
So far, I have: disabled, reenabled the device (PC seems to hang when I do this as well) reinstalled the drivers after removing them verified there is no proxy or weird DNS settings setup on the connection.

Sep 15, 2014I have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.
The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.
I have Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.
I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.
