I have an existing system that I have updated with Windows 8.1 with no problem. I also have a system for my daughter that I would like to do the same for, however, the internet connection is EXTREMELY slow. Is there some way I can download and save the update to my existing system and then copy thee update the other system and do an install?
View 1 RepliesI have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.
The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.
I have Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.
I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.
I just bought the satellite C40D and I connected wifi, but internet speed is extremely slow (.2mbps), but when i connect to Ethernet it goes unto like 19~24mbps range. My router is d link and setting is aes wpa2-personal I have done many research, but nothing seems to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new laptop (Asus s400ca) and I've been having wireless connection issues from the start. It originally had windows 8.0. I thought it would change when I went to 8.1. It hasn't. I have tried to reinstall the drivers. I've done several commands that I have seen around different forums. Today was the first time I have been able to access my wireless, however the speed is extremely slow. I went to speedtest.net to see what my average ping was and it was 2238 and my download speed was .17 mps and my upload speed was .13. I compared with wifes computer and hers is running a download speed of 17.6

I bought a desktop with windows 8 on it. Decided to put seven on it, found out the drivers didn't work. I am trying to go back to 8, but I cannot install 8 on 7 due to no internet connection (the product key won't activate as there is no connection). I cannot install Windows 8 from USB/dvd from the boot up. My computer doesn't let you select the DVD/USB option, even though I changed it in the bios where it would prioritize the USB/DVD before booting.
Anyways, is there away around this? I just want to get Windows 8 back up and running. : ( I have also bought a Windows 8 pro key a while back (for my own laptop, deactivated now). I really want to put it on my new computer...
As of now, I am stuck with Windows 7 with no internet connection. The farthest I can get to is entering the product key and the installation stops because I have no internet connection due to faulty drivers.
My old laptop was stolen, so I resorted to craigslist a new laptop. Fairly new laptop in good condition, w/ windows 8. I don't know if it's windows 8 or the laptop, but my old laptop got consistently 150.0 Mbps. This new laptop fluctuates between 90 & 120.0 Mbps.

System :- Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Laptop .
O/S :- Windows 8.1 .
I formatted my system yesterday and installed Windows 8.1 via MSDN ISO . Installed Dell Drivers and a few programs like Norton 360 etc , after which i shutdown my system yesterday .
When i opened my system today , i was shocked to see Preparing automatic repair message on the Dell boot screen . It tried Automatic repair because it said that Windows was unable to boot properly . However , Automatic repair was unable to do anything .
After that i shutdown my system again and then again powered it on. This time it booted to Windows but took about 5 min to get to the password screen . After booting to Desktop mode , i tried to open chrome , task manager etc , but nothing opened , and the system was painfully slow up until 10 min . After which everything was normal .
Tried to open Event log and it also crashed. I again restarted my system and this time it was lightening fast . Tried to shutdown and restart 2-3 times more , and it was fast all these times .

I got a new laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 15r SE (i15Rse-4267ALU). Basically, whenever I unplug my laptop it turns extremely slow. Not slow as in some programs take a while to load, I mean like I can barely move the mouse across the screen slow. My computer's specs are:

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is Windows 8.1. When I wake my computer from sleep, regardless of how long the computer has been sleeping, it takes 10-15 minutes to complete the process. It takes about a minute or so for the lock screen to show up. When it does appear, everything seems to be working but I click on the lock screen to reveal the password entry and a grey screen emerges but no password box or profile photo. Its as if the password box and photo are just missing on the page. So as I wait for the password box to appear, the lock screen will eventually return. I have to keep clicking on the lock screen to see if the password box has appeared.
Sometimes instead of the grey screen, the loading circle of dots animation is displayed but still behind the lock screen as above.
I have setup a n54l hp micro server with windows 8 as my home server and shared a folder with password protection set to off (needed to enable guest account for this to work btw which seemed strange)
Now file transfer between my windows pcs is fast (30MB/s over wifi) but to my android phone and tablet the speed is horribly slow (30kb/s i.e. 1000x slower)
Before I used a readynas duo as my file server and my transfer speeds with my phone were about 0.5MB/s and on pc about 5/MB/s
I have tried different applications on my phone with no change in speed (currently using es file explorer)
I usually keep my game setups in rar formats and that saves me a lot of space over all and just recently (couple of weeks ago i think) i extracted an 8gig file within a few minutes without any problems but now i just tried to extract 4 files of 4,588,544 KB each and it says 3H:28 mins. This is a lot by any standards.
System specs as below,this problem shouldn't occur with a quad core i7.
Also the CPU usage for WinRar doesn't go above 15% for some reason no matter what i do. Tried setting priority to highest in task manager but still nothing.
I install Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 someday ago. but I can't connect my Internet connection via Modem. in windows 7 I can connected it easily, but now I can't.

When I had Windows 7 and I put the option to share over USB, the minute I put the iPhone 4 in over USB, the connection would automatically be detected and used. But with Windows 8, I am forced to use the WiFi feature which is bad for my battery and speed and I wouldn't prefer this of course.
How to set up Windows 8 to use the internet connection over USB?
The computer I am using is a Dell Inspiron M5040 laptop.
I got a Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD to replace my HDD, and used the Samsung Software that came with it to image my OS over to the SSD. It had an error at first, so I removed my antivirus program and ran it again, and it worked.
Everything works pretty much the same, except for noticeable differences in search and Internet webpage access.
If I search in Explorer, the searches are fast and prompt. But if I search with the regular search charm ( WIN+S ), searches are more than 7x slower than on the previous HDD. Also, webpages a quick to load on different computers (not the internet speed, in other words). But this computer had slow loads, and now the loading is even slower on the new SSD.
Things I've tried:
Multiple SFC scans - all say there is some files that could not be fixed All windows updates installed enabled Trimm, updated SSD firmware, ran Windows SSD optimization, optimized computer for SSD use Reset Internet Explorer Rebuilt index
I'm thinking of ditching this slower laptop in favor of something... anything nearby. Regretting either imaging to another drive, or using Samsung to do it.
I was using Windows 8. My internet is "Radio" using a Bullet which is connected to my PC. So, I create a new Broadband connection (PPPOE) unde Windows. After creating it, I put the "service" and manually connected to the internet. But after restarting, and loggong into my account it shows me a windows where I had to put login and password, and I also marked "automatic connection when login, and worked fine.
After installing Windows 8.1 Preview it seems that it was removed. Because after creating a new connection and restarting my computer, there isn't any window anymore to create my automatic connection. I can connect only manually clicking on the Icon on tray.
I thought that this option of windows 8 would be back on final release, but it wasn't. How can I can configure my computer to connect automatically after login to my account, because I don't like to connect all the times manually.
I have tried twice to update to 8.1 and both times the internet won't work. "Page can't be loaded"
I refresh and it goes back to 8.0 and internet works ? Why doesn't it refresh 8.1 instead of going back to 8.0 as I have to re-install programmes etc. Is 8.1 on disc?

My laptop keeps losing internet connection. It appears to remain connected to the router but not have actual internet connection. I have pinged the router thousands of times and have no packet loss so I don't suspect that is the problem. I've tried the internet connection on a computer running Windows XP, one running Windows 7, and one running Mac OS X and none of them have trouble staying connected, so it appears to be a problem only with this laptop.

Long story short, my Apps are not connecting to the internet following some disastrous anti-virus faffing about. I've now removed Norton and AVG completely and have avast (but reading elsewhere here, I believe that I should probably get rid of that as well?).
Now, I've got to the point, through your very good forum, of understanding that I need to do this Run CMD 'Command Prompt' as administrator. In the command line type: netsh winsock reset Press enter then restart your PC, the problem solved. So I tried that, but it hasn't resolved the problem.
I've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my windows 8 laptop since January and have had absolutely no problems with it until now. i recently just took my laptop away on a holiday with me for a couple of weeks where i did not have any internet connection. The laptop was working fine and had no issues with playing a few games or watching movies etc. I just got home and started my laptop when i noticed no programs would open including (google chrome, internet explorer, various games and applications including the windows 8 menu screen programs).
However the only program that did open for me was files explorer. my first instinct was to restart my computer, so i did go to the settings button and selected restart. after waiting a couple minutes and not seeing and progress i held the power button in and then turned the computer back on. the same thing happened again and i again tried to restart my computer through the settings menu. however this time the restarting screen appeared, however after watching this screen for 20-30 minutes with no signs of updates or the like, i again held the button down to restart.
I did some googling and found users facing similar problems and mentioned about it all being involved with internet connection. i turned my internet off on the laptop and restarted the computer once more, when it came back on, all the programs worked as usual so i turned my internet back on, and as soon as i did, the computer refused to open any new programs. i went on my computer offline and deleted my newest programs and files i had installed the last time i had internet as well as running a full system scan on norton, norton could not detect any problems and the computer still refused to work online.

I recently updated from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 using Microsoft update. After the update was completed, I've started to have problems connecting to the internet using a wired connection. NOTHING else has changed since the update. If I reboot, it works for less than 30 minutes and then the connection switches to "limited connectivity" with no way to revert it back to the usual status. If I reboot the computer, it works fine again for a little bit. Oddly enough, if I connect the computer to the exact same router using wireless, it does not seem to be dropping the connection.
I'm using a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with the factory Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
So far, I have: disabled, reenabled the device (PC seems to hang when I do this as well) reinstalled the drivers after removing them verified there is no proxy or weird DNS settings setup on the connection.
I just bought a new computer with windows 8.1, and can find no way to disable my internet connection. This is a home computer, and I don't need or want it on all the time. Is there a way to disable it short of disconnecting the Ethernet cord?
