Am testing out a version of windows 8 in client hyper-v. I want to give it internet access so that I can active it(am actually testing the activation process). I want the virtual machine to use my dial up connection. How do I do this.

Unfortunately it seems that Win8 Pro and below does not support the hosting of this feature. Any way to bypass this limitation?
I'm using an AlienWare M14 machine. I tried to create a virtual machine locally using Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro, but it still doesn't work (took me a lot of time). I added the Hyper-V features in "Turn windows feature on or off", and all of the requirements to run Hyper-V are fulfilled (SLAT, BIOS, 64 bits, ...) (I attach the msinfo32 output in this post). At the last step in creating a virtual machine, it says "... General access denied error... (0x80070005)" (for details, check my attached image).

1) A Win 7x64 PC (static IP)
2) A Win 8.1x64 LAPTOP (static IP)
3) A Synology NAS (static IP)
3) A TP-LINK TL-R600VPN Wired Router connected to a cablemodem (internet access WAN) and to the switch.
4) A Trendnet 8 port switch connected to the 3 clients (PC, Laptop and NAS) and to the router (TP-LINK)
I have created a Windows Homegroup (Home/Private) from either the PC or Laptop going step by step as per these instructions and making sure that in both the PC and Laptop all requirements are met (required services, adapter settings, etc). The Homegroup is created successfully but the following issue arises:
- From the PC I can access shared files in the Laptop (by going to Windows Explorer/Network for example). From the PC I can also access the NAS shared files.
- From the Laptop, even though the Homegroup shows "Joined", I cannot access any shared file in the PC or NAS (it will show Error 53, network path not found). If I try to map a network drive (to directly access a shared folder in either the PC or NAS), it will also display an error saying that the network path cannot be found. However from the laptop I can access the NAS using the browser (Firefox, IE, etc).
So what is preventing the access to shared folders in the LAN from the laptop?
I've Windows 8 Pro, I've enabled the Hyper-V and I've created two VM's. One is a WinXP and the other is a Win7. They seem to be working fine, however I can't connect to the internet with them or view them on my lan. I've tried using Legacy network Adapters, network adapters, googled to find people saying things like there's issues with my physical network setup...
View 9 Replies View RelatedToday, I installed Linux Mint 13 to try some appliactions, programs and other good things.I downloaded it normally and after installing it I don't have network connection.
I tried with all type of network switches and activated Legacy Network Adapter but it don't work (I configured in network adapter for ex. External Network 1 , I want to say it's not say : Not Connected in VM Settings).
When I turn it Linux Mint says : Disconnected - you are now offline.
How to configure network and the Internet to work with Linux Mint VM ?
Windows network and sharing center says that no Internet access but Internet is working (sort of conditionally ) This is a desktop computer with LAN Connection . only one adapter is shown in network devices. Currently we are in domain environment and behind Microsoft tmg.
When proxy settings are set to auto detect then browsing is not working on internet explorer 10 but it's working flawlessly in Chrome. however manually entering the proxy settings browsing is Internet Explorer works.
I tried browsing by ip address in internet Explorer but no luck. It's only on this one pc.
Windows is updated regularly. Scep 2012 is installed with latest definition and found no issue.
I have tried twice to Reset the windsock and tcp ip stack. Still same result. Uninstalled network card drivers still no luck.
Ip is assigned by DHCP. I manually entered ip settings no luck.
Scan with malware bytes anti malware found three malwares and quarantined but still no luck.
Network cable is tested ok.
Reset internet explorer settings and restart pc but still no luck.
Removed Internet Explorer and restart computer and then installed again and restart and still no luck.
Also tried disabling ipv6 no luck.
Internet Explorer 10 is needed as we have some custom applications that won't work with ie 11.
However when I login with another account (another domain user account) all is ok i.e. browsing in IE with auto detect proxy settings is working and also the network icon is not showing no Internet access.
have an active Volume license subscription from Microsoft and i want to setup KMS server in my home and want to active all my client machines ( i have about 8 machines with windows starting from Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1, Office 2010 and 2013). I will be getting more machines in future but wan to go with KMS setup activation
My question here is in my volume service centre i dont see any KMS specific setup key , but i see KMS and MAK keys ( i am guessing KMS key is for client machine). can i use MAK key to activate windows server 2008 R2 and setup KMS server in that machine ?. will microsoft know how many machines i am activating internally in my home network
I know that i need more that 25 machines for KMS to work. I can use KMS emulator and make it 25 count.
I have a Asus Laptop operating with Windows 8.1. It connects to wifi but none of the desktop icons can get to the Internet. Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. As well as the weather app, which updates when connected to the Internet.

Device manager says it's installed properly and functioning well. My Q is this: how do I run the installation DVD from the DVD drive using the Command Prompt. On Windows Start-up I hit F12 to access the boot order, and when I arrowed down to the DVD drive and hit ENTER, Windows would just jump straight to the XP start-up process. It's like something won't let me access the DVD Drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Windows 8 yesterday from the Consumer Preview, and while the upgrade seems to have gone along fine, I can no longer access any of my files that were recovered from the windows.old file. Whenever I do, I get a message saying I don't have the right permissions, etc.
I am the sole user on my computer and the security settings in the properties for every file / folder I'm trying to access have my username, and administrators listed as having Full Access.
I have tried twice to update to 8.1 and both times the internet won't work. "Page can't be loaded"
I refresh and it goes back to 8.0 and internet works ? Why doesn't it refresh 8.1 instead of going back to 8.0 as I have to re-install programmes etc. Is 8.1 on disc?
Windows has been crashed and i am not able to access any windows apps as in screenshot,but able to use another softwares. Also, file explorer isn't working properly. I tried repairing but i am getting error. I might need to reboot anytime.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows 7 Pro (64) for several years, and today installed a newly purchased Windows 8 Pro (64) OS. I looked on-line and found many articles on how to multi-boot back to Windows 7 after installing Windows 8, and believe I have done this correctly (more below), but when booting up I do not ever see a multi-boot menu, my system boots directly into Windows 8.
When installing Win 8, I booted from my CD/DVD drive with the Win 8 OS media in the drive. (I had previously reduced the volume of my Windows 7 drive and created a new partition that I called "Windows8". ). At the appropriate time in the Win 8 install I chose "Custom", then chose the newly created "Windows 8" partition, then proceeded with the Win 8 OS install. As mentioned above, I do not see the multi-boot menu when booting up, however when in Windows 8 I can see the Windows 7 drive in "Computer", so it was not over-written.

and am wondering if I should try Options 2 through 4 (1 of)? I build my own PCs so know something about PC's, bt not much about booting to an OS.....
Another options might be installing a third party boot manager, which I have not yet done.
my reason for getting back to Win 7 is to be able to use the PC while I learn and setup Win 8 over time. I went into this believing that getting a multi-boot capability would be very easy.
I bought a desktop with windows 8 on it. Decided to put seven on it, found out the drivers didn't work. I am trying to go back to 8, but I cannot install 8 on 7 due to no internet connection (the product key won't activate as there is no connection). I cannot install Windows 8 from USB/dvd from the boot up. My computer doesn't let you select the DVD/USB option, even though I changed it in the bios where it would prioritize the USB/DVD before booting.
Anyways, is there away around this? I just want to get Windows 8 back up and running. : ( I have also bought a Windows 8 pro key a while back (for my own laptop, deactivated now). I really want to put it on my new computer...
As of now, I am stuck with Windows 7 with no internet connection. The farthest I can get to is entering the product key and the installation stops because I have no internet connection due to faulty drivers.
First of all the recovery partition is on the drive.. second it is as if not there.. or wont run due to me running a windows 8 disk (made from another pc trying to reset it.. although there was never the option to do so).. I've tried imagex and still no go.. maybe I did it wrong? or am I missing something entirely..
everytime I tried to access the recovery after by using 0 (zero) all I get is the BSOD.. ive been trying to see if there is a way to use cmd to force it to run possibly? or some other way?
btw its windows 8 x64 core
The recovery partition has all the drive files I believe, I can see them in regular windows.. just cant seem to get it to tie with boot.

As an example-- in this case I'm uploading-- but it happens also when downloading, I upload a video to You Tube. My connection to the internet is lost until I finish the upload.
This happens also when downloading a torrent. When it's going to happen is hard to determine. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't. I haven't found a pattern.
Cable connection, using a router. This kind of thing never happened with XP.

I was looking at my email and decided to go to another web site and kept getting "server not found" or "problem loading page". I tried other sites and got the same message using Mozilla Firefox, then I tried with Internet Explorer, same thing! Did a restart and still the same. HP did a network check and tells me to "reset my broadband modem and router" Duh!

Sony laptop 8.1-pro 64 bit. When connected to a wired Ethernet connection I can connect to internet, access everything, see shared folders, other PCs. But when connected wirelessly, though I can connect to internet, print to Ethernet printers, see Roku box, when I go to "Network" the only computer is the one I'm on. Netgear Genie sees all the computers.
I have an XP system and a linux-based NAS that I need to connect to, so Homegroup is not an option. The router is a Netgear WNDR300v3 with latest firmware.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Acer Aspire One netbook from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 via the Store. The upgrade went smoothly and it appears that my files and installed apps are all intact. However, IE 11 can't access the internet, can't display any web page. FireFox and Chrome work fine. Metro apps (including the Store) report that they can't find a connection to the internet and tell me to make sure my computer is connected.
I can access shares on my network although Windows Explorer reports that I am not connected to a network.
I've tried wired as well as wireless connection to my router with no difference. I tried turning off/on the Firewall.
I tried running netsh winsock reset from a command prompt and restarting which had no effect.
I use the firewall Online Armor from Emisisoft. It works perfectly on windows 7 but when I installed it on win 8 I cannot access internet. During the installation it asked to install some kind of network so I allowed it and also added emisisoft to the trusted vendors on win 8. So is there any way to remove Emisisoft from trusted vendors list on win 8?

For example I can use google to make a search, and I can see the search results, but I cannot open any other addresses or click on search results. This makes it seem to me like a DNS issue, but regardless of the DNS settings I select I cannot make any progress.
