I am a new Win 8 user. I set up 2 user accounts. The first one works fine. The second user indicated that it is connected to the Internet. I can ping Yahoo! and it pings fine. Both users have administrative rights. When I open Internet explorer it will not connect.

Windows network and sharing center says that no Internet access but Internet is working (sort of conditionally ) This is a desktop computer with LAN Connection . only one adapter is shown in network devices. Currently we are in domain environment and behind Microsoft tmg.
When proxy settings are set to auto detect then browsing is not working on internet explorer 10 but it's working flawlessly in Chrome. however manually entering the proxy settings browsing is Internet Explorer works.
I tried browsing by ip address in internet Explorer but no luck. It's only on this one pc.
Windows is updated regularly. Scep 2012 is installed with latest definition and found no issue.
I have tried twice to Reset the windsock and tcp ip stack. Still same result. Uninstalled network card drivers still no luck.
Ip is assigned by DHCP. I manually entered ip settings no luck.
Scan with malware bytes anti malware found three malwares and quarantined but still no luck.
Network cable is tested ok.
Reset internet explorer settings and restart pc but still no luck.
Removed Internet Explorer and restart computer and then installed again and restart and still no luck.
Also tried disabling ipv6 no luck.
Internet Explorer 10 is needed as we have some custom applications that won't work with ie 11.
However when I login with another account (another domain user account) all is ok i.e. browsing in IE with auto detect proxy settings is working and also the network icon is not showing no Internet access.
I have a Asus Laptop operating with Windows 8.1. It connects to wifi but none of the desktop icons can get to the Internet. Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. As well as the weather app, which updates when connected to the Internet.

I have a drive (say Z), to which I want to restrict access to the user XXX. The user should be able to read the documents and view the videos in the drive. However, he should not be able to delete/modify the files in the drive or write new files to the drive.
I have gone through: Permissions - Allow or Deny Access to Users and Groups in Windows 8. I'm not comfortable with command prompts or registry keys, so I tried option three (Change Access Permissions in Advanced Security Properties).
By default, the user had permission for "Read, Read & execute, List folder contents" only. However, even with these I found that the user could delete and modify the files/folders in drive Z. So, I denied the following: "Create file/folders, write attributes/extended attributes, delete subfolders/files". This seems to serve my purpose.
Now I wish to know two things:
1) Am I doing the right thing or messing up something?
2) There was a radio button "Only apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container". This I had left unchecked. Should I check this? The window (see attachment) clearly states that these permissions apply to "this folder, subfolder and files". Is this just a redundant option?
I've created a new user profile. I need outlook on the old user profile to be moved to this new user.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPrior to last week my computer was running Windows 7, the computer also has a 3TB MyBook external drive on which I ripped over 100 movies from DVD/Blue-Rays that I own (and still have). The reason for doing that was 1) so I could watch the movies on my TV without the hassle of inserting the dvd into the blue-ray player, and (2) reduce the amount of storage space (I threw away the original containers and put them in a simple DVD file).
Last week I installed a new internal hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 8. Consequently my admin account's user name was changed to be the same as my Microsoft live.com account name. Now I can't access any of the folders on MyBook without taking ownership of them one-at-a-time. That is going to be very very time consuming to do that for over 100 folders. Any faster way to accomplish this?
I don't know why Microsoft won't allow computer Administrator to access any folder on his computer. This is just dumb.
The situation gets even worse -- after taking ownership of the folders I still can't access any of the files or sub-folders. I have to do that for every folder and file, somewhere around 500 of them! I feel like just reformatting the drive and starting all over again.
I am in dire need of accessing my administrative account. I am an online student and my works are here. I cannot access this account with password or simple pass.

I went to the event viewer and it also said that it couldn't find my profile. I am the only user and administrator. Is there a way to make a new user profile AND not loose my files and settings.

I have 2 computers with Windows 8.1 installed: desktop and laptop. I am trying to access local disk drives of "desktop" from "laptop".
For example, i type in Windows Explorer "desktopc$". "Windows Security" window pops up where i am typing credentials. If i specify "desktopadministrator" user and then provide correct password everything is fine, i can access disk C. But, if i type "desktopjohn" and provide correct password i am getting error "Access denied". "john" is my main account, it's in "Administrators" group of "DESKTOP" computer.
If i try to access the same resource over "cmd net use" i receive error "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied."
Why "john" can't access "DESKTOP"'s disk C over LAN?
Is it possible to assign a Microsoft account to a user for the SkyDrive access but use another Microsoft account for the same user (logged in and active at the same time) for access to their Hotmail email via the metro Mail tile and their settings and Microsoft store, etc.?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I download something I cannot access the internet until the download is finished. This happens some of the time but not always.
As an example-- in this case I'm uploading-- but it happens also when downloading, I upload a video to You Tube. My connection to the internet is lost until I finish the upload.
This happens also when downloading a torrent. When it's going to happen is hard to determine. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't. I haven't found a pattern.
Cable connection, using a router. This kind of thing never happened with XP.
I have removed my only admin account from the administors group and now i could not do anything in my pc..
It is just a local user account now and I also have no other account assigned as admin and my built in admin account is disabled.
I have windows 8 on a Samsung computer. I can access the internet in desktop mode. However now when I go into the apps screen I cannot now access any app that needs the internet eg. apps store. I am told I have no internet access even though I can see it is connected.

I was looking at my email and decided to go to another web site and kept getting "server not found" or "problem loading page". I tried other sites and got the same message using Mozilla Firefox, then I tried with Internet Explorer, same thing! Did a restart and still the same. HP did a network check and tells me to "reset my broadband modem and router" Duh!
I'm using U-Verse and also have my desk top PC w/win.XP hooked to it, which I'm now using, turned it on and no problem! It must be something in the laptop!

Sony laptop 8.1-pro 64 bit. When connected to a wired Ethernet connection I can connect to internet, access everything, see shared folders, other PCs. But when connected wirelessly, though I can connect to internet, print to Ethernet printers, see Roku box, when I go to "Network" the only computer is the one I'm on. Netgear Genie sees all the computers.
I have an XP system and a linux-based NAS that I need to connect to, so Homegroup is not an option. The router is a Netgear WNDR300v3 with latest firmware.

I have Windows 8.1 and I can get 'Internet Explorer ' onto the desktop taskbar but I cannot open it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Acer Aspire One netbook from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 via the Store. The upgrade went smoothly and it appears that my files and installed apps are all intact. However, IE 11 can't access the internet, can't display any web page. FireFox and Chrome work fine. Metro apps (including the Store) report that they can't find a connection to the internet and tell me to make sure my computer is connected.
I can access shares on my network although Windows Explorer reports that I am not connected to a network.
I've tried wired as well as wireless connection to my router with no difference. I tried turning off/on the Firewall.
I tried running netsh winsock reset from a command prompt and restarting which had no effect.
I use the firewall Online Armor from Emisisoft. It works perfectly on windows 7 but when I installed it on win 8 I cannot access internet. During the installation it asked to install some kind of network so I allowed it and also added emisisoft to the trusted vendors on win 8. So is there any way to remove Emisisoft from trusted vendors list on win 8?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect to my VPN (which works for other devices), my wifi status changes to limited, and very few things work which require an internet connection. For example I can use google to make a search, and I can see the search results, but I cannot open any other addresses or click on search results. This makes it seem to me like a DNS issue, but regardless of the DNS settings I select I cannot make any progress.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless router and am connecting 2 phones (wifi) and 1 PC (ethernet). The PC is running Windows 8 and has two User Accounts (I'll call them "Business" and "Personal").
Since setting up the router, the phones have connected over wifi without problem. If I log onto the "Personal" user account on my PC, it connects over ethernet, and the phones still work with wifi.
However, if I log my PC onto my "Business" user account, the PC says it has connected to the Home Hub via the ethernet cable, but there is no internet connection. It also causes the internet connection on the phones to drop (sometimes the wifi goes down completely, sometimes it says it's connected to wifi, but there is no internet). I don't think it's an ethernet problem either, as I connected my PC wirelessly instead of with the cable, and the same thing happens.
The PC only ever does this on the "Business" user account, the "Personal" account works fine (I'm using that now). Looked everywhere to find a solution, I assume it's something in the settings, rather than a router issue. Can't find the answer anywhere.
I have installed Windows 8 RP, and everything works fine, except I cannot access internet from metro apps: IE, Store, New, Mail etc. Does not access internet, even though I have access to internet from Desktop? I have tried everything, and googled for hours without any useful result.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem since I updated to Windows 8.1My internet wi-fi connection is unusually low and is not working after only minutes of browsing the internet. The problem is always fixed after I run troubleshoot problems and is saying that the default Gateway is unavailable. My netword card might be the source of the problem even tough I updated the drivers. I'm not sure which one I have because drivers from Ralink and Qualcomm seem to be working both.

Some of my Apps on the start screen, ie Weather, News, Maps, Travel, Skydrive and other Apps such as Slacker Radio and Weather Radar Pro will open but give me a "no connection to the internet" message. If I switch over to my Desktop I have an internet connection.
I checked the charm bar/settings/Internet Access and it says "no connections available". The curious thing is the Live Tiles for the News and Travel will update and show the latest information, yet when I open them I get the "no connection available" message. I have no problem with the Store App, Explorer, Email or Music App. Those seem to work fine.
I removed my Anti-virus software, re-installed the Apps and still get the same results. For my internet connection I'm using a Virgin Mobile OverDrivePro2E7 WiFi Hub. I'm not using the Wifi, it is plugged directly into my computer via a USB port. If I go into Control Panel/Network Connections it shows up as EtherNet2 with a strong connection.
Recently my Samsung laptop has been getting kicked of my house's WiFi. The computer will power up normally and connect to the WiFi, but as soon as I try to use the WiFi to access the internet the connection fails.Typically this only occurs when other devices are connected to the same WiFi. As soon as the other decieves are taken of the WiFi the computer is able to access the internet again. I have tried updating all my drivers and still nothing.

Stuff I've done is power management to max performance, installed latest 8.1 drivers from Lenovo and intel site, uninstall driver in safe mode etc...
I got a broadband connection few days before and whenever I use that connection to access internet, Chrome alone works. Firefox, IE, Torrent application and all the Windows 8 apps are showing "unable to connect to internet".
I tried a lot of cmds like" dns flush, resetting connection etc" but nothing worked.
I even refreshed the whole OS, but the issue persists.
My friend lives in an area where the only possible internet connection is through a CDMA USB device. They have multiple computers all connected through a host computer sharing this CDMA connection.
Recently they had a major problem with the Windows XP machine that was acting as host. So they bought a new desktop computer (HP PRE with Intel Core i7). I got them a copy of Windows 8 Pro and installed it on the host. Everything was going great until it was time to share the internet connection! I clicked on the CDMA device and clicked to share the connection using the ethernet connector as the shared device. The Ethernet cable goes to wireless router plugged into 1 of 4 switch connectors. All WAN features are turned off on router. I set the router's local IP to an address in same subnet as shared connection on host machine (192.168.137.1).
Then I connected a 2nd computer to the wireless router. This computer connects great! It gets an valid IP address from host. I can connect from 2nd computer to host to browse files on host, no problem. However, the 2nd computer can not connect to the internet.
When it first connects, the 2nd computer shows internet access, but after 30 seconds or so, internet access is disabled.
