Windows has been crashed and i am not able to access any windows apps as in screenshot,but able to use another softwares. Also, file explorer isn't working properly. I tried repairing but i am getting error. I might need to reboot anytime.

My Boot loader on my Desktop crashed so i formatted the drive as it was my only option. I'm attempting to reinstall windows...
-so i downloaded windows from: Upgrade Windows with only a product key as i was instructed to by the 1800 Microsoft support staff.
-made a usb installation media and used my Original Product Key. i did this on my laptop. and then once the installation media was finished i plugged it in to my desktop. it didn't work it said the product key was invalid and to please try again.
-so i called them back and the ended up giving me a new product key. i tried that with them still on the line and it didn't work their suggestion was to recreate the installation media.
- i did that this morning because i was irritated enough for one night. any way it didn't work, i noticed one thing. at the end of the creation of the installation media it keeps giving me my old product key to use.
Just to be clear because I tend to ramble a lot. this old product key is the one that i got from Microsoft when i purchased windows 8 pro. i purchased it online at microsoft.com when windows 8 first came out. i have no original installation disk because i originally downloaded some software from their site.
I dont want to buy a new copy of windows because in my opinion i shouldn't have to. What i would like to figure out is how do i create instalation media with the new product key that they gave me? every time i reinstall the install windows 8 file from Microsoft.com it for some strange reason keeps giving me my old product key and i cant seem to be able to change that.
For some reason my PC crashed and i had to re install win 8 i used the activation key to in stall all OK but when i tried to install media centre i was told i had to activate o/s first so i went to action centre to activate but it is saying i cannot use this key it is for upgrade not clean install.

Well, things seemed to go OK, but none of my settings were kept (I had to reconfigure Outlook 2013, etc... and I'm getting this error now, which is preventing me from installing Acronis, Nero and VDownloader.

Device manager says it's installed properly and functioning well. My Q is this: how do I run the installation DVD from the DVD drive using the Command Prompt. On Windows Start-up I hit F12 to access the boot order, and when I arrowed down to the DVD drive and hit ENTER, Windows would just jump straight to the XP start-up process. It's like something won't let me access the DVD Drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows 7 Pro (64) for several years, and today installed a newly purchased Windows 8 Pro (64) OS. I looked on-line and found many articles on how to multi-boot back to Windows 7 after installing Windows 8, and believe I have done this correctly (more below), but when booting up I do not ever see a multi-boot menu, my system boots directly into Windows 8.
When installing Win 8, I booted from my CD/DVD drive with the Win 8 OS media in the drive. (I had previously reduced the volume of my Windows 7 drive and created a new partition that I called "Windows8". ). At the appropriate time in the Win 8 install I chose "Custom", then chose the newly created "Windows 8" partition, then proceeded with the Win 8 OS install. As mentioned above, I do not see the multi-boot menu when booting up, however when in Windows 8 I can see the Windows 7 drive in "Computer", so it was not over-written.

and am wondering if I should try Options 2 through 4 (1 of)? I build my own PCs so know something about PC's, bt not much about booting to an OS.....
Another options might be installing a third party boot manager, which I have not yet done.

I upgraded to Windows 8 yesterday from the Consumer Preview, and while the upgrade seems to have gone along fine, I can no longer access any of my files that were recovered from the windows.old file. Whenever I do, I get a message saying I don't have the right permissions, etc.
I am the sole user on my computer and the security settings in the properties for every file / folder I'm trying to access have my username, and administrators listed as having Full Access.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all the recovery partition is on the drive.. second it is as if not there.. or wont run due to me running a windows 8 disk (made from another pc trying to reset it.. although there was never the option to do so).. I've tried imagex and still no go.. maybe I did it wrong? or am I missing something entirely..
everytime I tried to access the recovery after by using 0 (zero) all I get is the BSOD.. ive been trying to see if there is a way to use cmd to force it to run possibly? or some other way?
btw its windows 8 x64 core
The recovery partition has all the drive files I believe, I can see them in regular windows.. just cant seem to get it to tie with boot.
I have been doing so research lately into system imaging and deploying said image across multiple devices.
I want to image Surface Pro 3s (about 40 of them) with several dozen apps from the app store. My understanding is that if I want to use an image across multiple devices I have to use sysprep to generalize the image. The problem is any app off the app store is account specific and cannot be generalize. If you try to sysprep with apps installed you will get a Fetal Error, and you cant install apps from the store while in audit mode either.
Are there any options available to me, or will this have to be done manually?
In January I bought a Dell laptop with Windows 8. I recently upgraded to 8.1. Now most app tiles have an x on the right hand side of them, and I cannot access PC settings, the app store, and most other apps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 8.1 earlier this evening and was greeted by an extremely unpleasant error in that all of my Metro apps have now become non-functional, including the Windows Store and the PC Settings apps.
I have spent the last 2 hours trying numerous solutions to the issue, none of which work. The only remaining option seems to be to try "refreshing" my Laptop, but this is not an option as I do not own any Windows 8.1 Installation media. I used the $15 Windows 7 to Windows 8 upgrade offer a few years back, so I don't even have an original Windows 8 CD.
I also really cannot download an ISO as I am currently on satellite internet, it took me nearly two days to download the 8.1 update so I would rather avoid doing that if possible.
I've checked my file permissions, I've tried all of the Powershell commands suggested here and here, none of it has worked. When I attempt to do the powershell commands I get the following error:

A coworker spent the entire day getting a Windows 8 machine up and ready for imaging. As part of the process, he went ahead and let it update the metro apps from the store.
Big mistake: Apparently updating Metro apps breaks sysprep;
Sysprep giving "fatal error" -- but *only* after updating Metro apps?

The first time the screen just went blank (music was still playing) but I couldn't do anything. About an hour after the above the screen went on again and came back on and got a message saying the GPU driver crashed and then recovered. so I upgraded the graphics driver to NVidia 326 driver.
The second time the music stopped and got a awful tone (continuously) and muse cursor wouldn't move. It has been installed less than 6 hours.
I use NVidia GeForce gtx460 with NVidia 326 driver. connected to Samsung monitor via HDMI.
When I was resseting my windows 8 crashed. It was about 98% done. So thinking that it will just be my old virus infested windows I tried to return to my windows 8 though it turned me to the settings page. I tried getting to one of my restore points it wiped them too. Windows wiped everything. now i dont have a key or cd to reset m(i got windows 8 100% legit)

I've taken the drive out of the laptop and plugged it into my Windows 7 desktop using an external USB bay. I hear the computer detect the drive but it will never show up as a drive. If I look in Computer Management it shows up in there.

I tried everything, like refreshing and restarting the computer. Internet explorer would often stop working. It got to a point that I could not connect tonetworks, I tried multiple networks. This occurred a week before I left the country and didn't have much time to look into it.
I am connecting to a network and only getting "limited connectivity". My iPhone and iPad are able to connect. I've spent a few hours playing with it and googling. I get the message "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer". When I check the network connections it says IPv4 Connectivity: No Internet Access. IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access.
I have Windows 8.
