I was prompted by my OS last week to install 8.1 because it was gonna be "great!" so I did and on reboot, was greeted with a bsod. My computer dude said that it was time for a reinstall, so that's what I did during the course of the day. It's a fresh install, fully updated (8.1). I have three drives attached; two 500 GB disks and a 250GB. The computer is seeing one of the 500GB and the 250GB disks properly, but the other 500GB is only showing one partition it seems. It's labeled system reserve and is 350MB in size.
My virtual machines are housed on the other partition and I could really use them. How do I get the Windows install to allow me access to the whole drive?

My Windows 8 installation crashed this AM and the repair tools couldn't fix it. I ran the "Reset" option, which keeps my settings and data but reinstalls Windows 8. Well, things seemed to go OK, but none of my settings were kept (I had to reconfigure Outlook 2013, etc... and I'm getting this error now, which is preventing me from installing Acronis, Nero and VDownloader.

My Boot loader on my Desktop crashed so i formatted the drive as it was my only option. I'm attempting to reinstall windows...
-so i downloaded windows from: Upgrade Windows with only a product key as i was instructed to by the 1800 Microsoft support staff.
-made a usb installation media and used my Original Product Key. i did this on my laptop. and then once the installation media was finished i plugged it in to my desktop. it didn't work it said the product key was invalid and to please try again.
-so i called them back and the ended up giving me a new product key. i tried that with them still on the line and it didn't work their suggestion was to recreate the installation media.
- i did that this morning because i was irritated enough for one night. any way it didn't work, i noticed one thing. at the end of the creation of the installation media it keeps giving me my old product key to use.
Just to be clear because I tend to ramble a lot. this old product key is the one that i got from Microsoft when i purchased windows 8 pro. i purchased it online at microsoft.com when windows 8 first came out. i have no original installation disk because i originally downloaded some software from their site.
I dont want to buy a new copy of windows because in my opinion i shouldn't have to. What i would like to figure out is how do i create instalation media with the new product key that they gave me? every time i reinstall the install windows 8 file from Microsoft.com it for some strange reason keeps giving me my old product key and i cant seem to be able to change that.

I brought my zoostorm tower with out an OS and purchased copy of windows 8. Everything was going fine then suddenly when my PC booted up it asked me to activate and took me to pc settings and I get an error saying I couldn't activate try again later or contact support. A google on the the web tells me to run SLUI04 - which I do but after selecting my country it just hangs if I try and activate by telephone it just asks me for groups of numbers which of course I don't have?

I was installing Windows 8 at my desktop pc.Suddenly power cut occured and it caused the compute to shut down. Then when I restarted my pc again a messege appeared saying that the installation has been corrupted and it can't be continued and it doesn't log on.After that when I tried to re-install Windows 8 the setup got stuck at the "setup is starting" window.I waited overnight for it to go and the installation to start. But it doesn't happen.I have tried to re-install several times but the same problen happens again and again. So neither I can log into my computer now nor I can re-install windows.I don't know what to do.

I have installed windows 8 64bit today and it has crashed twice already to the point I had to press the power button until it turned off.
The first time the screen just went blank (music was still playing) but I couldn't do anything. About an hour after the above the screen went on again and came back on and got a message saying the GPU driver crashed and then recovered. so I upgraded the graphics driver to NVidia 326 driver.
The second time the music stopped and got a awful tone (continuously) and muse cursor wouldn't move. It has been installed less than 6 hours.
I use NVidia GeForce gtx460 with NVidia 326 driver. connected to Samsung monitor via HDMI.

My pc froze when I was browsing the web. It gave a blue screen with a sad face emoticon saying it had encountered a problem and needed to restart.
Upon restarting it tried to repair / restore but crashed again and restarted again. I have tried booting to a USB loaded Windows 8.1 pro setup. The Win 8 "setup fish" appears however it doesn't actually enter setup. After a moment the "setup fish" disappears and the screen goes black for a moment then a message is displayed on a blue screen saying File:windowssystem32ootwinload.exe could not be loaded. I wondered if this means it is still trying to boot the OS so i disabled the hard drives in bios just leaving USB but Windows 8 setup still won't boot and I still get the same error message.
My motherboard is an ASUS p7p55d. At the moment I am just using my phone to write this.

I have a laptop that crashed over the weekend. I need to do a restore on the computer but before I do I need to get the documents and pictures off of the drive. I've taken the drive out of the laptop and plugged it into my Windows 7 desktop using an external USB bay. I hear the computer detect the drive but it will never show up as a drive. If I look in Computer Management it shows up in there.

My Windows 8 just crashed, and now all I have is a black screen. The first error that came up was the "ntoskrnl.exe", and after that my computer would't start. I tried everything, like refreshing and restarting the computer. The last thing that I tried to do was to completely restart the computer; I created a new user and everything, but as I logged in windows 8 wouldn't start, and a black screen would come up. My computer is running fine like the mouse and the "ctrl-delete" are also working.

Basically my icons are fubar! :
More detail:
Current Setup/programs that affected this issue:
RDP
Stardock Fences 2
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
Basically I RDPed into my home PC, tried to play some Street Fighter 4. Things worked, all was happy, and the Gods rejoiced. Until I returned home. Upon trying to log into my PC the desktop showed only partially complete (by this I mean the icons were there but they were in the process of moving to the "fence"). Explorer gave me the wonderful wait symbol and I could not interact with my PC. Fast forward 10-15 minutes, still no change. CTRL-ALT-DELETE worked kind of: it opened up after a few moments/minutes. From there I rebooted thinking that would fix it. Nope.
Eventually I got into the cycle where the desktop would load, fences would load, explorer would lock up, I'd click my mouse, explorer would crash and restart. I uninstalled fences, everything worked... except the icons. Reinstalled fences, same problem as before, crashing and whatnot. Uninstalled it again. And that's where I'm at currently.
I've attached a couple images, the first one shows the current state of the icons. Some have their icons, some don't. All are valid shortcuts. I'm a bad person and I have actual programs on my desktop and even those have the generic white page icon.
The second screenshot shows the file in its directory, with properties and change icon. No matter how many times I do that, nothing will change.
I've spent a couple hours googling and my first thought was it was the icon cache so I decided to nuke it (I found some instructions on these sites with copy/paste commands, it was so easy even a cave man could do it).
So I'm currently frustrated beyond all belief at my PC on a night when I just wanted to come home, watch some movies and play a couple games after an annoying day at work. Instead I spent all evening trying to fix this problem and getting no where. Woe is me?
I should add without Fences (and I removed all my other customization stuff and nuked anything that integrated with the right click shell thingy which I can't remember what it's called) my machine is running nice and smoothly (so far) aside from the icons.

My computer freezes every time I look for hardware changes in device manager. First time I got the BSOD (CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT) was when i tried to reinstall my on-board LAN card. Since then every time i open device manager and look for hardware changes it freezes on me. Have tried reinstalling windows several times without any success. Other than that, the computer is working perfectly.

I tried to get the dump files from the BSOD but i havent get it since the last time i reinstall the system. When it freezes i can get the BSOD right away, sometimes it can take more than 30 to come up after it freezes.
This is everything i have connected to the computer. I dont know if this is a software or hardware related issue.

My computer hard rive recently crashed and was sent off to manufacturer to be supposedly fixed. Once I got it back my internet connection was spotty. Internet explorer would often stop working. It got to a point that I could not connect tonetworks, I tried multiple networks. This occurred a week before I left the country and didn't have much time to look into it.
I am connecting to a network and only getting "limited connectivity". My iPhone and iPad are able to connect. I've spent a few hours playing with it and googling. I get the message "one or more network protocols are missing on this computer". When I check the network connections it says IPv4 Connectivity: No Internet Access. IPv6 Connectivity: No Internet Access.
I have Windows 8.

I have a Toshiba laptop (Portege R835-P56X). I was running Windows 8 upgraded from Win 7. I successfully upgraded to Windows 8.1 but was having some problems with the Wifi. I followed the instructions to reset the TCP/IP Autotuning. When I restarted, Windows failed to start, and all repair & recovery options failed, so I cannot even access System Restore.
Windows attempts Automatic Repair then shows options to "Restart" or "Advanced Options" but I am unable to click either one--the keyboard and keypad are both completely non-responsive.
Unfortunately, I do not even have a Win 8 disk to use for a repair. I do have a disk image from just before I upgraded to Win 8.1. The problem is: how to access it?
I did a legitimate upgrade from Windows 7 and have a license for Win 8 with Media Center, but unfortunately cannot locate my original email, so Windows won't send me a Windows 8 DVD.
I'm tempted to simply restore to factory settings and Windows 7, which I'm running on my other PC without all these hellish problems. I hate Windows 8 anyway.

I have a TB drive and when I was trying to delete some files, it crashed. As a consequence, the recycle bin has some invalid information in it. If I try to perma-delete files in there, the system freezes. I try to restore files, it freezes. When I tried to restore files, it also asked me if I wanted to replace the files in the respective locations that it was restoring to, which to me means that the files are still there and its in some kind of limbo.
I'm sure this problem is at least somewhat related to the hybrid boot feature with the crashes. I dual boot with Linux Mint 15. I think that upon messing with some files on the TB drive and going back to Windows caused it to... well I'll say have a seizure. Now I've done chkdsks and it never seems to truly finish. It gets to the end, and sits there, and maybe even freeze or crash. But when I do a chkdsk I can usually access my files in Linux in read-only mode.
While, in Windows 8, I can still access everything perfectly fine. I can read, write, and do what I want normally so long as it doesn't involve anything with the recycle bin. Also, say I try to go to the files on the HDD that I tried to delete but are still there and delete them, it freezes crashes.
I've also disabled that hybrid boot feature and have attempted clean shutdowns and in some cases it would even freeze on shutdown. Also I've done both chkdsk /r and chkdsk /f with the only difference that one takes hours and the other doesn't.

My Dell inspiron 17 SE on Win 8.1 has crashed when I was trying to initiate a factory restore. I did the free upgrade from 8 – 8.1 and since installing I have had nothing but problems.I was in the process of formatting the HD to return this junk heap to the store where I purchased it, when I had a message of “some files are missing, please insert media”.I pressed cancel, restarted the computer - which then into a loop, and that’s all it does now.The sequence is:Start up - Automatic repair (your pc did not start correctly) - Preparing automatic repair - Diagnosing your computer - Your PC ran in to a problem and needs to restart - repeat.I then ran trouble shooting and F12 diagnostics which told me nothing was wrong and then proceeded back into the same loop on exit.
