I've Windows 8 Pro, I've enabled the Hyper-V and I've created two VM's. One is a WinXP and the other is a Win7. They seem to be working fine, however I can't connect to the internet with them or view them on my lan. View 9 RepliesAfter i updated to Windows 8.1 Enterprise from Windows 8 Enterprise, Hyper-V does not function correctly. When I add an iso image to a new virtual server or start one of my existing, I can see the iso file is loaded in the bottom thumbnail.
But when I connect to the virtual server it just says: Connecting to virtual server... and it times out after 5minutes.
All my virtual servers are running locally, they are able to start and are running fine, I just cannot connect to them. Also the ability to turn virtual servers off tends to hang and I have to kill the processes and restart the services for it to stop.
Today, I installed Linux Mint 13 to try some appliactions, programs and other good things.I downloaded it normally and after installing it I don't have network connection.
I tried with all type of network switches and activated Legacy Network Adapter but it don't work (I configured in network adapter for ex. External Network 1 , I want to say it's not say : Not Connected in VM Settings).
When I turn it Linux Mint says : Disconnected - you are now offline.

Okay I have created a virtual drive, switch and then created a new virtual machine.
I have downloaded a windows 98 iso (legally, I have a disk but its badly scratched).
I'm trying to install win98 on the VM but not sure how. I had the option when I was playing around with the first time and chose install later.
I deleted the VM and drive, created new ones but didn't get the option to install an OS.
If I start the vm I just get boot failure. I have mounted the win 98 iso in the virtual cd drive but nothing's happening!
I have a Hyper-V VM, and during the setup wizard I chose to install OS later.
I added DVD drive to it's hardware, and added the DVD drive to the boot order.
I put the retail Windows XP disc in the drive and start the VM, but it doesn't see the disk and eventually I get the error "Boot failed" for every boot device, and then finally "No operating system was Loaded. Press a key to retry the boot sequence...".
In setup for the VM, I see that I can "Specify the media to use with your virtual CD/DVD drive", which is an "image file". Does that mean it has to be an ISO, not a physical disk?
If so, any good way to make an ISO from my retail Windows XP Pro disk? It looks to me like Windows 8.1 File Explorer doesn't do it.
I have two servers installed via HyperV, one is Server 2008 R2 and the other is Server 2012. I want to get them to communicate with eachother but I only have 1 nic onboard. I've setup an external virtual switch and have internet connection with my host OS and both servers (same connection) but I don't know what steps I need to take next to get them to talk to eachother and share resources. I also plan on making a few more VM's (Ubuntu/Fedora) and want to make them to talk to eachother as well (which will be a later question )

How to install Hyper-V Manager on Windows 8.1? I can't find anything to say it isn't possible, but I also can't find any way to install it. Anything I have been able to find refers only to installing it in Windows 8.1 Pro, but says the host software requires Pro or Enterprise. However, since I am not installing the host, it looks like it is possible, if you can find the source.
The reason I need to do this is that I have a Windows 8.1 machine and a Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 Core machine, and I would like to be able to access the GUI tools for Hyper-V Manager. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Hyper-V enabled. When I had Windows 8 I could install a Virtual switch with out any problems, since upgrading I can not install a Virtual Switch with External or Internal settings.
Not sure if this is relevant or not but when I look at the Ethernet properties never "Hyper-V Extensible Virtual Switch" or "Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol" are ticked. I have tried ticking them but get the error message "Could not add the requested feature. The error is: The data is invalid". I have checked that I am using the latest and correct driver for the card.

I enabled Hyper-V on my computer. When it restared I saw it was configuring Hyper-V. I didn't opened Hyper-V the same day. Two days later, I wont to open Hyper-V but I can't find it anywhere! Also, it isn't listed in programs anymore... I also enabled virtualisation in the BIOS.

Noticed the virtual xp file .vmcx is there but can't access it. So I installed Hyper-V and got to the point of connecting to Virtual Hard Disk. Noticed it creats a .vhdx file. I assume this would be a new file with nothing I had on my old .vmcx file. How do I get my old virtual files over to the new one?

I'm using an AlienWare M14 machine. I tried to create a virtual machine locally using Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro, but it still doesn't work (took me a lot of time). I added the Hyper-V features in "Turn windows feature on or off", and all of the requirements to run Hyper-V are fulfilled (SLAT, BIOS, 64 bits, ...) (I attach the msinfo32 output in this post). View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 660s running Windows 8.1, and I just did a full boot of Ubuntu 13.10 onto a Dell Optiplex 330 that was previously running Windows XP. My goal is to connect to the internet by using the 660s as a bridge to the internet by connecting the two computers with an ethernet cable.
The level of difficulty: My internet requires you to log into it on a separate browser log in page similar to those in airports and other public Wi-Fi access points except that it requires a username and password to log in. My theory is that if I first log in to the internet on my Windows machine then I can connect to it by simply opening a connection from the Ubuntu OS to the Windows OS. Am I off track here or am I on the right track?

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro where I have installed the Hyper-V manager and so on. I have made a virtual external switch and a virtual machine with Server 2012 on it. It connects fine to the switch. The Hyper-V makes a virtual bridge and all seems fine. But the guest does'nt get an IP adresse, and can't connect to the internet/LAN.
I have made the exact same setup on my laptop connected to Ethernet and there is no problem at all.
Does the Surface Pro Wireless have a problem with Hyper-v ?
In Windows 8 Pro I have created a virtual machine using Win XPSP3. I've tried everything I can to get an internet connection for my VM. I'm not on a network so I've created an external virtual switch. I've tried using both the legacy adapter and a network adapter. I've tried changing the IP address -even tried a DNS address but the best I've achieved so far is "limited or no Connectivity". I also tried Win 7 Home Premium VM with the same result - no internet connection. The virtual manager should set this up automatically

I think it is because the modern apps (mail, people, weather...) and other background services auto connect to internet. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP laptop running Windows 8. On 09/15, it did an automatic update to Windows. After that I am not able to browse internet using any browser - IE, firefox, Chrome. My laptop connects to internet. Apps like yahoo messenger works fine. But browsers wont.
I searched internet and as per some forums I tried 'netsh winsock reset ' command. After that browser will connect to internet, but after a minute or so, it stops connecting. Also, I noticed that when I do a restart, the laptop doesnt restart. It shows the 'Restarting' screen for hours and I have to manaully power it off.
I have no clue what update was pushed by microsoft which messed up my laptop. The laptop is pretty new and I did not have any issues until the windows update.
Any way to update the HyperV Client within Win8 Pro to Server 2012 standard of features?Primarily I'd like to use a Win8 client machine to host a VM with RemoteFX (DX11 GPU) support to another client machine, within a small office environment.
