Setup Installation :: Activating Windows 8 Pro After Installing Media Center
Jan 13, 2013I installed Media Center & now I can't download a key for it!
I have 2 computers running Windows 8 Pro. I got the key for Media Center on one computer & everything works!!
I then loaded Media Center on the other Windows 8 Pro computer, but it will not let me download a key for it. It insists that I have downloaded a key!
I tried to reactivate back to my original installation & refuses to accepted that valid key!
I don't know how they know I have downloaded a key.
What do I do know? Reinstall the original Windows 8 Pro? There must be a way!!
Adding Windows 8 Media Center Pack To Laptop?
Jan 25, 2013I've had my laptop for about a month now and when I first got it I did something (and I don't remember what at the moment) that said I needed to add the media center pack. Anyway, whatever I did said I needed to get a license key for the media pack. Well, Microsoft just emailed me my key today but I don't really know what to do with it. How do I go about installing the media pack so I can enter the key?

Media Center Pack - Reinstall After Win 8 Reinstall?
May 5, 2013I've decided to go ahead and reinstall w8pro given my extensive messing around with it has finally caused some quirky, unexpected results - it's a relatively new installation, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, didn't get a chance to install a lot of third party programs and such. The thing is, I did purchase and install the Windows 8 media center pack - how do i go about getting this back? do i have to contact ms? I'm fairly certain that i don't have an activation number for the pack, if i recall i just paid for it online and then was allowed to download it and install it.
Also, i thought i would go ahead and do a clean install all over again as opposed to a reset or refresh given i want to make certain that i'm starting from scratch again... or do you think a reset or refresh might be the better option (i'm not concerned about keeping any personal settings or files intact).

When I try to use the tutorial,I get as far as the Product Key entry.
The install was an original 8 I downloaded when it first came out.
I then installed 8.1, probably from the Store.
I recently downloaded and install 8.1 Media Center Pack.
Had a real problem with activation.MS Support finally had me go to where there was a long activation string and then he gave me a new Product Key, which is now on the machine and Activated.
When I get to the "Product Key" page and enter the Media Pack key, "This product key didn't work. ....."

I just purchase a legitimate version of Windows 8.1 Pro (student) edition from the Microsoft store. I downloaded the installer and created both an ISO file and media drive on a USB stick.
My question is, can I somehow install only Media Center onto my 8.1 laptop without installing the entire 8.1 Pro operating system?
Win 8.1 Pro With Media Center 64 Bit - Losing Internet Connectivity (IP Address)
Feb 19, 2014I am having an issue with my Windows 8.1 Desktop (win 8.1 Pro with Media Center 64 bit) in that it is losing the IP address several times a day, which stops any browser from working. I fix this by entering "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" at the cmd prompt & restarting, but this is only temporary. For the past couple of days this has been occurring at 9am and 9pm. but for the prior week or so it was 12am or 6am. I can't work out what is causing this. This behavior began on 2/2 but no updates were done on that date. In the event log I find 4 event corresponding to the times I mention:

Metro Tiles Do Nothing - Media Center 8 Goes Unresponsive On Setup
Oct 29, 2012Ever since I got Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, it's turned my computer into Ricky Retardo.
When I click on the Metro tiles for People, Photos, Video, Games, whatever ... it grows to fill the whole screen, and then immediately closes again like nothing was supposed to happen. I figured I needed to restart my computer. That didn't fix it.
Then I installed the Windows Media Center 8 with the promo code and everything. When you first start it, it tries to setup, and asks you whether or not you want Express or Custom installation. Picking either or on both options causes the entire program to go unresponsive and crash.
Win 7 To Win 8 With Media Pack
Jan 4, 2013When I upgraded to Win 8 I first got the media pack product key so when I was going through the process I entered the key and got the Media pack during the download.
I have sent a request via the appropriate route for the pack to be sent to my address for my laptop; I know there is one key per pc.
It said it would take up to 72 hours but I have not received it. I called but some person who I could not understand well gave me a site which was the same I initially tried. This time it said it could not be executed.
Perhaps it was because of the address being the same but I am not sure. Is MS closing out this offer? Once you get the "free" pack does it expire in 3 months?

I have downloaded the language pack that I want to install and saved it to the root of my C Drive and renamed it to LP.mlc
I know little about what I am doing! I tried the command in CMD prompt, "dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:LP.mlc"
I keep getting the above error code and it wont install.

Nov 7, 2012I just recently performed a Clean install of Windows 8 Pro on my older HP a1210n. I also added a nvidia gt520 graphics card shortly after installing windows 8.
Everything was running great, no issues until I downloaded Zune (Use for Windows Phone 7). Shortly after launching Zune and navigating through screens the PC just froze (no messages, no errors). My only option was a hard boot. No messages or errors on re-boot. I tried uninstalling Zune and reinstalling and the same thing happened. Also, it was random when occurred. I also ended up doing a new Install of Windows 8 since I had added my video card after installing Windows 8. At this point, it seemed to be a fix, no crashes.
I then installed Media Center and began to experience the same issue, just random hanging requiring hard boot. I did check troubleshooting and found that the Media Center was corrupt?? So, I followed the procedure of turning off the Media Center feature and then after re-start, turning on the feature. It seemed to work, but it hadn't.
I would imagine it has to do with my video card, right? Otherwise, my pc with Windows 8 (Which I think is great so far!) has been working fine.
Winsat Won't Run In Windows 8.1 Pro With Media Center
Jan 31, 2014When I run winsat formal -reset -v from an elevated powershell or cmd window, it completes in less than a second and produces no xml files. I have tried without success:
1. Clean boot
2. Safe boot
3. Updated video driver
4. Uninstalled all codecs with autoruns
I think the problem might be related to failure to run the NT Kernel Logger but I don't know what process could be tying it up. I have attached the winsat log.

Win 8 Pro - Media Center Stutters / Freezes
Jun 15, 2013Just installed Windows 8 Pro and bought the Media Center add on. I run an i7-3770k, 16Gb ram, GTX 780 3Gb video card and have 2 25" monitors. Now when I play a game on display 1 and have Media Center running Live TV on display 2, Media Center stutters, freezes. As soon as I close the game on display 1, Media Center runs fine.
Now I did this all the time under Windows 7 and had NO ISSUES AT ALL running a game on one screen and MC running live TV on the other. Same driver, 320.11
Any reason MC acts this way under Windows 8?
Maintenance :: Can't Get Media Center From Updating Itself
Feb 1, 2013Every day & every night, this laptop is wakened out of its nap by Media Center. I've gone into Media Center / General / automatic download options and unchecked both boxes which leaves the timers greyed out.
This morning, sure enough, Media Center was still doing its thing. I find what's waking the system of course by going to Command Prompt and typing "powercfg -lastwake" - and the culprit is Media Center.
I've pulled out three gray hairs already during this episode, so before I get to the sixth, how to get Media Center from waking up this laptop. I mean, computers need sleep too.
Media Center Not Playing Videos
Oct 26, 2012When I play an Mpeg2 video file thru Media Player, its plays the sound fine, but there is not video. The video played with no problems with Media Player in Windows 7.

Jan 24, 2013I have been trying to get WMC to stay-on-top but to date I have not been able to figure it out. I have looked all over the application. The research I have done tell me to do the follow within WMC;
Select: Tasks / Settings / General / Startup and Window Behavior
At this location I should see the option to "Stay on Top" but the only options available are;
1) Show a warning before displaying Web pages that are not designed for WMC
2) Show taskbar notifications
When I select about in WMC the following info is displayed;

with Windows Media Center Technologies
Where I need to go to set this option ?

Sep 9, 2013Every time I try to play any DVD in Windows Media Center, I get this error:
"CANNOT PLAY DVD : The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD."
I know the issue is not with my physical DVD drive because of the following reasons: I am presently dual-booting XP Pro SP3 and Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. The former can play DVDs just fine. VLC Player on Windows 8 can also play DVDs just fine.
I'm curious if there's any way to get this to work on Windows Media Center on Windows 8, then, because I paid for the upgrade from Pro to Pro with Media Center, after all.
Windows Media Center / Not Recognizing TV Tuner
Mar 31, 2013My WMC has been working just fine since it was released for Windows 8. I opened the programme today to check tv programmes only to find that "Viewing or Listening Conflict - No tuner available to satisfy the current request".
I have a TV Tuner card : AVerMedia H751 Hybrid Analog/DVB-T with the latest and only drivers installed. by visiting AVer Media website.
When I did a compatibility test for Windows 8 there was no conflict, hence I've been viewing TV with WMC until today.
What happened today, nothing that I know of. Windows update yesterday, so I did a system restore, no such luck it made no difference.
My system is Wndows 8 Pro with Media Centre
Intel Core i5 CPU
320GHz
8Gb RAM
64 bit OS
My husband's computer is on the same line for TV and his WMC is working just fine so it's not the connections from the wall unit to PC.
