My apps can't connect to the internet when they're open, but when they're closed they have no problem. For example, my News, Email, and Finance apps show updated, current information, but when I open them they say that they can't connect.
View 4 RepliesMy weather, news, finance, travel and maps tiles can never connect to internet even though I can, at the same time, browse and download. I tried to figure it out in many ways but failed eventually . When I click any of those tiles, it opens and a message pops up and says the app cannot connect to the internet. The network indicator on top-right side of the tile also shows 'Offline'. The tiles show sample data only. My computer gets automatically connected to internet after log in. So the tiles should have got connected.
I have windows 8 pro .
The desktopUI all my software can connect fine to the internets, browsers, emaiclients, games etc etc. On the MetroUI nothing connects to the internet. for example with the windows app store i get the message (roughly translated from Dutch) "Windows store didn't connect to server or timed out, wait a few minutes and try again" clicking the back button top right, or the try again "link" have no response whatsoever.

For some reasons, unknown by me, i try to access multiplayer mode on my gaming apps that allows online access will not connect to the internet. It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. Its just this specific thing that i desire to fix badly.

I rarely use Win 8 apps, and run in desktop mode almost exclusively. Was having issues and was suggested I advance the OS to 8.1. That requires Store app. Store app gives a very generic "unable to connect" message with no options. I've done some research here and tried various things to no avail:
-refresh the store app
-a few cmd things
-restart
-turned off McAfee AND windows firewall
Some suggest doing some type of system restore which claims to wipe out all desktop system apps.That seems quite extreme for a program/connectivity issue.

Long story short, my Apps are not connecting to the internet following some disastrous anti-virus faffing about. I've now removed Norton and AVG completely and have avast (but reading elsewhere here, I believe that I should probably get rid of that as well?).
Now, I've got to the point, through your very good forum, of understanding that I need to do this Run CMD 'Command Prompt' as administrator. In the command line type: netsh winsock reset Press enter then restart your PC, the problem solved. So I tried that, but it hasn't resolved the problem.
I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 and none of the apps work and they all show offline. When I open the desktop I can use the internet with no problem. In the network and sharing options it says that I am not connected to a network when clearly I am so I'm guessing it is possibly a network/IPv6 issue?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had this problem where the metro apps could access the internet when i used a usb modem. The problem just disappeared but for the metro apps to use the internet on the usb modem i had to connect it via the modem's dashboard. If i connect via the Network side bar(the blue one with the list of networks), metro apps won't work.
I used to get this error before ''datamarket.accesscontrol.windows.net could not be resolved'
Another problem came up. When i use a cdma modem(ZTE Modem) and i connect it via its dashboard, metro apps won't access the internet.
Another thing is that not all metro apps behave this way. The mail app,internet explorer,messaging and people app always work.
From the screenshot you can see that the Internet explorer works but bing search doesn't.
I have installed Windows 8 RP, and everything works fine, except I cannot access internet from metro apps: IE, Store, New, Mail etc. Does not access internet, even though I have access to internet from Desktop? I have tried everything, and googled for hours without any useful result.

At the bottom right in desktop, the network symbol has a yellow exclamation sign and says "No internet access"/"Limited". This is a secured intranet, so I logged in with my company credentials when the browser started.
The IE browser connects to the internet normally. When I open metro apps such as Weather, it says the Internet is offline.
I know posts have been circulating around this topic but none that directly address my needs. I just recently did a fresh install of Windows 8 onto a brand new SSD. I then set all of my documents to be on my traditional hard drive. Everything worked perfectly for about one day then my metro apps stopped connecting to the internet. I am on the internet currently using the desktop application of Chrome and all of my desktop applications connect to the internet. Additionally my computer tells me it is connected to the internet and troubleshooting identifies no problems.
Here's the problem all of my metro apps will not connect to the internet. The "Store" app says that my computer is not connected to the internet. The weather app opens but does not refresh, and most of my apps do the same thing. they have a constant loading symbol.
I have no antivirus installed. I did install PocketCloud Windows Companion VPN service so that I can access my computer with my tablet. I have scavenged all the forums and there seems to be no answer. Is this just a problem of Microsoft's?
All my stock metro apps are not working anymore. I get a no internet connection error but on Desktop my internet works fine.

PC lost connection to internet before I reinstalled a clean copy of Win 8. I went in to device manager disabled Ethernet driver,then enabled it-still no connection!

Right after I installed the windows 8 I tried to make a new connection to the internet (I have a modem), but when I hit the button connect (after typing the username and password for the new connection) I get an error ("Windows run into a problem and needs to restart") and it restarts.
I re-installed Windows 8 three times so far but no success.I keep getting the same error just when it tries to connect to internet.
I have an Asus Aspire laptop with windows 8 on it. Recently my laptop has refused to load we pages. It says it is connected to the wifi and it will load the opening page for Google Chrome. If I try to go any further than that, it says the web page is unavailable.

I have an HP Envy 20 Touchsmart all-in-one PC, model 20-d113w. It was purchased 1 year ago. My problem started a few weeks ago. This computer is connected directly to the internet by Ethernet cable. I have a wireless router which I just replaced because the computer place I went to said the router was my issue. Upon replacing my router, I am still having the same problem. All wireless devices and the internet work fine, it is the desktop and I feel an HP issue. I can go online fine but once I'm off for more than 20 minutes, the only way the computer will reconnect to the internet is by restarting. I have Norton as my anti virus software.
I did run the troubleshooting in the internet menu. It either says there is no problem or it says The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running. This does not come up every time, just once in a while.

From yesterday I am having my trouble connecting to internet my laptop shows that it's connected to wifi but when I load any pages it gives dns error I contacted my ISP and they gave me all the settings but still no luck but when I ran Linux through DVD internet worked so my windows is having problems not the router I have Wi-Fi connection. I am currently on an old Dell Inspiron running Vista and have no problems connecting to my wireless network and getting online but the Lenovo G Series I just bought, that runs Windows 8, does not want to connect.
Firstly, I don't like that it's constantly trying to connect to a bunch of default networks that it CAN find that aren't mine. I want to disable those. I only want it to attempt to connect to mine.
In the middle of typing this, it looked like it was working for a moment, but then it went down again. To this new computer the signal is reading very weak or something. Every other device in my home can connect except for this new computer.
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro where I have installed the Hyper-V manager and so on. I have made a virtual external switch and a virtual machine with Server 2012 on it. It connects fine to the switch. The Hyper-V makes a virtual bridge and all seems fine. But the guest does'nt get an IP adresse, and can't connect to the internet/LAN.
I have made the exact same setup on my laptop connected to Ethernet and there is no problem at all.
Does the Surface Pro Wireless have a problem with Hyper-v ?

1. can't connect to this network : this message appears every time i try to connect to the internet even at home where the distance between the laptop and the router is less than one meter aand no one is using the internet
2.even if i managed to connect to the network i can't connect to the internet for a while -varies from 5 to 10 minutes-
3. sometimes the network auto disconnects with no error message
4.there is a small '!' above every available network and i remember it disappeared for a while and the networking was perfect
I've had this since I installed 8, but other little things kept me busy and since the PC is on all day, it's not been a big inconvenience, I would like to get it fixed however.
When I boot up the PC does not connect to the net.
When I trouble shoot it, it connects and gives the message
"ethernet" doesnt have a valid ip configuration fixed.
I am running windows 8.1, had red flag fom norton clicked on to fix and got stuck never completed, some how i got into safe mode and can't get out of it and can't connect to internet.

I'm not on a network so I've created an external virtual switch. I've tried using both the legacy adapter and a network adapter. I've tried changing the IP address -even tried a DNS address but the best I've achieved so far is "limited or no Connectivity". I also tried Win 7 Home Premium VM with the same result - no internet connection. The virtual manager should set this up automatically

But it still did not work, the internet is connect through a router (not wireless) and the other desktop PC still connects to the internet fine.

A cold boot results in no network connection. My network displays as available, but the PC can't see it. A warm reboot connects as it should. Checked for driver updates to the Intel adapter 4965AGN, only to see Intel no longer supports it, and Dell tells me I have the newest driver available for this 9400 Inspiron. All worked well with Win 8, but no joy with 8.1. May have to check into a newer adapter for this laptop - if such a thing is available.
