I connected an Ethernet cable at my workplace to a Windows 8 laptop. At the bottom right in desktop, the network symbol has a yellow exclamation sign and says "No internet access"/"Limited". This is a secured intranet, so I logged in with my company credentials when the browser started.
The IE browser connects to the internet normally. When I open metro apps such as Weather, it says the Internet is offline.
I had this problem where the metro apps could access the internet when i used a usb modem. The problem just disappeared but for the metro apps to use the internet on the usb modem i had to connect it via the modem's dashboard. If i connect via the Network side bar(the blue one with the list of networks), metro apps won't work.
I used to get this error before ''datamarket.accesscontrol.windows.net could not be resolved'
Another problem came up. When i use a cdma modem(ZTE Modem) and i connect it via its dashboard, metro apps won't access the internet.
Another thing is that not all metro apps behave this way. The mail app,internet explorer,messaging and people app always work.
From the screenshot you can see that the Internet explorer works but bing search doesn't.
My weather, news, finance, travel and maps tiles can never connect to internet even though I can, at the same time, browse and download. I tried to figure it out in many ways but failed eventually . When I click any of those tiles, it opens and a message pops up and says the app cannot connect to the internet. The network indicator on top-right side of the tile also shows 'Offline'. The tiles show sample data only. My computer gets automatically connected to internet after log in. So the tiles should have got connected.
I have windows 8 pro .
I have installed Windows 8 RP, and everything works fine, except I cannot access internet from metro apps: IE, Store, New, Mail etc. Does not access internet, even though I have access to internet from Desktop? I have tried everything, and googled for hours without any useful result.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know posts have been circulating around this topic but none that directly address my needs. I just recently did a fresh install of Windows 8 onto a brand new SSD. I then set all of my documents to be on my traditional hard drive. Everything worked perfectly for about one day then my metro apps stopped connecting to the internet. I am on the internet currently using the desktop application of Chrome and all of my desktop applications connect to the internet. Additionally my computer tells me it is connected to the internet and troubleshooting identifies no problems.
Here's the problem all of my metro apps will not connect to the internet. The "Store" app says that my computer is not connected to the internet. The weather app opens but does not refresh, and most of my apps do the same thing. they have a constant loading symbol.
I have no antivirus installed. I did install PocketCloud Windows Companion VPN service so that I can access my computer with my tablet. I have scavenged all the forums and there seems to be no answer. Is this just a problem of Microsoft's?
All my stock metro apps are not working anymore. I get a no internet connection error but on Desktop my internet works fine.

I am using Windows 8.1 and all the computers in the network have good speed but only one PC has internet issues.
I even reinstalled Windows but that didn't solve my issue.
I even reset the router, upgraded its firmware but all in vain.
If I disable the network adapter and enable it then the internet works for like five minutes but then it stops working again. I even changed the wire connecting the PC to the router.
I have also disabled the firewall.
I am a complete technophobe but have just brought a Toshiba Satellite laptap (top of the range) with windows 8. I'm just about getting the hang of it but I am having problems running any app or desktop application that uses my internet (wireless broadband).
The internet is working because I have a netbook which is still fine - although it is not the most powerful or speedy of connections.I don't want to do much with it - download some music, browse through some pages etc Is it possible that my internet connection is just not up to the all singing all dancing windows 8?
Lately I have a problem with the internet :/ :the pages I try to open are very slow, sometimes I get a blank page (no matter how much I wait) or in the upper left corner appears this : ''[URL] .....''. Or it appears: SSL Error / The webpage isn't available.. I tried using other browser (IE) but it still works very slow, and I can't download Firefox because it is too slow, I also reinstalled Chrome.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to play online games with my friends and talk on skype, calls would get dropped and I would lag really hard in the game. I have tried clicking on troubleshoot problems but I would always get resetting adapter and it would say fixed network adapter and access point but that did not work at all. My brother who also has the same laptop as me does not have this issue I would look at his bars and its full and tried checking his connection properties and such but they were similar to mine.

I am facing a strange problem with my internet connection on Windows 8.
I have a netgear WNR612 wifi router and two laptops connected to it running Windows 7 on first and Windows 8 on second.
The connection in Windows 8 laptop shows sufficient signal strength but when I try to access internet, it does only shows connecting. I have changed browsers, wifi router, adsl router, released and reconnected IP address, forgot and re-added wifi network, reset wifi router to factory almost everything.
The strange part is that as soon as the other Windows 7 laptop is disconnected from the network, Windows 8 internet start working fine. I have tested this many times and there is no doubt in this behavior.
I dont know whether the problem is in any update installed on Windows 8 the older Dell Wireless 1703 wifi card or some virus in the other Windows 7 laptop.

Note that I have assigned preferred IP addresses to both laptops based on MAC.
After the new windows 8.1 update (which inclided the home screen power off button) a net problem came out. In my wifi indication, it sais "limited", but when i enter the web, i can search in the internet without probs. When i go to net. and sharing center, i cant see any network. On my other laptop (win7) it shows the connection normally.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my Asus NV56VM laptop (windows 8). Whenever I try to use an ethernet cable to access internet I either get a SSL-error, the website doesn't load at all or it loads VERY slowly and not the whole website (it says that I have internet acces and that it's not limited). Wireless works fine though.
I've also tested playing some games (ex Call of duty) and it works fine for like five minutes and then I get an error message saying something about packages didn't receive correctly. So I'm guessing it have to do with not all information is transferred when I use ethernet.
According to the Device Manager I use "Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)" and the drivers is up to date.
Things I've tried:
Using a different ethernet cable.
Testing it on a different network (at my friends house)
Reinstalling drivers (both from Asus website and from Qualcomm's).
Disable wireless
Empty cache/cookies
Restarting computer/router/modem
Turning off firewall
Searching for virus (didn't find any)
Ipconfig /release /renew
Tested it on different browsers (I also affects games though)
Formatting my laptop
SSL and TSL is enable
On my windows 8 laptop I haven't had any problems for months but now my apps on the start screen won't connect to the internet, but I can still connect to the internet when I'm in desktop.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Acer Aspire One netbook from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 via the Store. The upgrade went smoothly and it appears that my files and installed apps are all intact. However, IE 11 can't access the internet, can't display any web page. FireFox and Chrome work fine. Metro apps (including the Store) report that they can't find a connection to the internet and tell me to make sure my computer is connected.
I can access shares on my network although Windows Explorer reports that I am not connected to a network.
I've tried wired as well as wireless connection to my router with no difference. I tried turning off/on the Firewall.
I tried running netsh winsock reset from a command prompt and restarting which had no effect.
I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 and none of the apps work and they all show offline. When I open the desktop I can use the internet with no problem. In the network and sharing options it says that I am not connected to a network when clearly I am so I'm guessing it is possibly a network/IPv6 issue?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy web browsers only seem to work when Im downloading something with utorrent. If I stop utorrent from downloading, my browser(chrome) no longer loads a website or loads extremely slow. When Im downloading something on utorrent everything is fine, internet works great. I had to limit the download rate so it doesnt use all my speed though. Its kind of like my internet has to charge up by download on utorrent, then feeds my web browser speed and/or connectivity.
The problem seem to have started when I was using connectify to create a hotspot for my neighbor to use for internet off of me without him connecting directly to my wifi. I have uninstalled connectify, did a dns flush, and did a netsh int ip reset.
I set up my 8.1 installation, played with all the apps, got used to how M$ wants the future to be...and this morning when I turned my PC on, it said it was installing some updates. No biggie.
Now today I am having a bad time with some of the Apps. Skype for example(though this seems to be a known issue?) loads for about 4 seconds then CTS(CrashToStart). Photos will let me look around for about ten seconds, then CTS. Reading List, CTS soon as it looks loaded.
I have tried re-installing the apps, to no avail. or a hotfix will be released, because a refresh would be a sucky option just for it to break again.
I have a asus notebook running windows 8.1. I work on a college, and the wifi network don't has a wpa key to connect. But once the computer connects to the network, it requires a login using the browser, where i give my login, password and must check a box with the agreement with the access terms.
Everytime i open my computer there i must do this routine.
I'd like to know if it is possible to aumotate this process, allowing the computer to do this login every time it detects the network connection.
I've already done this with my android phone, but i didn't find a way to the windows 8.
My apps can't connect to the internet when they're open, but when they're closed they have no problem. For example, my News, Email, and Finance apps show updated, current information, but when I open them they say that they can't connect.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having a network problem since Refreshing Windows 8.1 Pro Update 64 bit on one of my PC's. I've been able to see other PC's OK but unable to see some devices (eg Diskstation NAS etc) on my network (all connected using Ethernet cables).
I've tried all sorts of things to cure the problem and all to no avail.
I just noticed that in Services there was no Computer Browser so I guess this is my problem. I copied over the browser.dll file from another PC (using the same operating system) to the Windows/System32 folder but after a reboot there was still no Computer Browser in Services. I ran a couple of scripts I found, a registry hack and something else to restore the Computer Browser then I uninstalled the Client for Microsoft Networks, rebooted and re-installed the client.
Now when I look in Services it's listed as Browser instead of Computer Browser and in the Description column it says "Failed to read description. Error Code: 15100. The error code has now changed to error code 2.
What I can try next other than a clean re-install?
I have a 600Kbits per sc connection, cable modem so my downloading speed is around 60-70 kbytes/s same in utorrent and in browser downloads, i use windows 8.1 pro, 64 bits, recently my google chrome was turning slow and firefox too, i dunno if my pc was infected by viruses. i scanned wit havast and bitdefender free versions and found nothing.and yesterday when i tried to download a pdf file, i dunno why nut download speed was horrible, started with 24 and then it was like 3-4 kbytes/s and it even failed later.
I thought it was a connection problem so i restarted my connection, browsing was fine everything except downloading seemed okay.
I tried doing the same things with different browsers like firefox or internet explorer but the problem was same.
When i tried utorrent, it was perfectly normal, it gave the usual download speed of 60-70 kbytes/s so it seems the problem was onl in downloading with browsers and no problem with browsing and utorrent. I hard resetted my pc and reinstalled fresh copy of win 8.1 but again twas the same.did it 3 times already but no change. I dunno if it is a virus or something but i am exhausted, ( before formatting my pc , i backed up my files in an external hdd so it may be possible that if there is a virus involved then it may have came back due to my external hdd)
I checked Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test and there too, showed 0.56 mbps , so it was normal there too
I have a Asus Laptop operating with Windows 8.1. It connects to wifi but none of the desktop icons can get to the Internet. Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. As well as the weather app, which updates when connected to the Internet.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI've been using Flash Player in the Metro version of Chrome for quite a while now, and it's been fairly useful since the the Metro version of IE is oddly crippled. I like the Metro interface, but not the way web browsers have been crippled to use NO plugins.
Just today, Chrome started giving me a pop-up message saying that I can't use Flash Player unless I run in legacy/desktop mode.
Is this just my version of Chrome messing up in some way, or was this change actually made? I really don't understand why on earth they would cripple the Windows 8/Metro mode all of a sudden. What's going on?
I am having trouble with ICS on win 8. On my old laptop (win xp) I used to be able to share my 3Connect dongle internet to connect to Xbox live. I recently got a new laptop with win 8 and whenever I share this internet connection I can never connect on my Xbox (the network to internet part fails). When everything is connected up and shared the Ethernet says 'Unidentified Network' which i believe is the cause of the problem. I've read i may require a driver update but i cannot seem to find one.

In 8.1 Pro, 64-bit: In an effort to allow connectivity with a virtual machine using VMware Player, I deleted the Network Bridge. While this indeed enabled connectivity I now find that Metro apps (at least iHeart radio, Weather) requiring Internet connectivity no longer work. I have already run the diagnostics suggested to no avail.
So, is there a solution that allows Metro apps without the Network Bridge?
