How To Get Rid Of Test Mode
Jul 5, 2014In my brothers rig has the GMA x4500 as video card integrated so he has win 8 and he installed a custom modded driver to access to control panel and to config openGl and other things now he was asked to enable test mode before installing that driver and disable driver signing after he finished every thing he disabled back test mode but the system is keeping using it and the watermark stays
at the bottom I tried these
bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
with no sign of being removed

Apr 8, 2014I finally found out a way to access the Test Mode in Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 to get unsigned drivers to work, but the side-effect is there is a watermark, which can be removed if you disable the Test Mode. I want the Test Mode to stay enabled, but the watermark gone!

All good so far, we ran the utility caled My WCP Watermark Editor and removed it successfully. But, later on he changed his display language from English to native and the watermark was back (in the native language). We tried using the My WCP Watermark Editor again but it gave an error every time, no matter what we tried.
It was basically like that; install the REG change to be able to take ownership of files (Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8).
Then copy the shell32.dll.mui from the %WINDIR%System32En-US (or in the native language in my friend's case) and open it with the Resource Hacker (Resource Hacker).
Find a certain string and delete the entry that can be seen in the watermark. Then copy the basebrd.dll.mui from the %WINDIR%BrandingBasebrden-US folder and edit it with the Resource Hacker, find certain string and remove it.
Then overwrite the files with the changed ones (that's why the "take ownership" REG change was needed). After that we uninstalled the REG and rebooted.
After that I run mcbuilder.exe and after a couple of seconds it just closed the CMD screen.
The watermarks are gone - what I'd like to ask is:
Did I do right by running mcbuilder after the reboot or should I do it before?
Is this safe? Is it likely that it could cause any system unstability or whatsoever in the future? Or are we perfectly fine?
How To Remove Test Mode Watermark
Aug 30, 2012I have to run with driver signature enforcement turned off permanently as I use an AMD switchable graphics laptop, and it is not supported by AMD and am forced to run usermade drivers with no signature. How can I remove this watermark without messing with Windows version displayed in winver?
To add to this, I used MyWCPWatermark to remove the Test Mode text after I activated. Now I am activated with the Windows version and build number text still on the bottom right of the screen. I can't use MyWCP anymore, it just asks if I am on Windows 8 beta.
Switch To Text Mode?
May 18, 2014How do I switch to text mode? For example, in linux it's something like ctrl+shift+f7.
There are times when an application or a game is hijacking the screen/desktop, and hangs. When I try alt+ctrl+del task manager to kill it, I only see the task bar, and the rest of the desktop is black. So I can't see what I am doing. If I could only hijack it back, e.g. text mode to kill the application.
No Text For Icons / Folders In Desktop Mode
May 8, 2014When in desktop mode, I have folders I have created sitting on the desktop where the txt is not present. If I hover over, or right-click and select properties can obviously see that info. Please note the problem is not that the txt is the wrong color or something, its that the text is not there.

l clicked on the "Charm" & a blue screen with white lettering popped up. It had instruction that the test wood take some time. It also said it would "automatically" Restart Rhys computer & list the results.
On the right, lower corner of the screen it says if you press "esc" it will exit. It RAN for Hours !!!

Jan 2, 2014My screen seems to have a grey filter overlaying it. See attached.
When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.
I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.
I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.

Sep 15, 2014I am using Windows 8.1 with all the latest updates.
I'm trying to get into safe mode, but when I do it is only a black screen with in each corner it says "Safe Mode" and the whole screen blinks every few seconds resetting the cursors position. The cursor and text are only visible when I am moving the mouse, otherwise it's all black. I can't do any button combinations like CTRL ALT DEL or anything.
Normal mode works fine, and I can't think of any viruses/malware that work allow you to work in normal... but not safe mode.
I have all my Windows 8 options disabled (Windows 8 mode, fast boot, secure boot) to see if it was those but to no avail.
Every time I try, I have to go into safe mode. It sticks, so I can't just reboot/reset and go back into normal mode. I have to go into the emergency cmd and do bcdedit to delete the safeboot value.
I usually clean my PC every so often, the same with OS re-installation but nothing is wrong with the normal mode and the OS still seems quite fast with the SSD.
I have never seen safe mode function, this is the first attempt at running it in safe mode. What could cause this? I can't get into safe mode but can get into normal mode...

Sep 24, 2013I have had Win 8 Pro up and running for about a month and I am having a continuing printing problem. I have 2 printers that I am trying to print to. An HP 4250 and a Ricoh C821DN. Both are on the network and I access them through the local IP address. They both installed fine, but half the time I cannot print to them. When I print, the print command finishes, but nothing prints and nothing is in the que.
I try printing a test page and I get an error box saying that "Test Page Failed to Print". Running through the troubleshooter only makes the printer the default printer and that has no effect. I can see the printer through my browser by typing in the IP address and everything is fine. I also have my laptop running windows 7 right next to me on the network and it prints to both printers just fine.
Sometimes Win 8 will print and sometimes it wont, often for hours at a time.

Screen Is Frozen In Please Wait Mode
Jul 5, 2014I can't get pass the "please wait" screen ..it's been in this mode for a few hours. Problem started after Windows' automatic updates. I have Gateway Desktop ZX6980..I had just fixed the problem with Apps not opening from start screen by taking the computer back to factory mode and it was working fine until the Automatic updates which could not be completed and then sat in the Configure for Windows for 6 hours ..now it's been sitting in the Please Wait mode for at least 3 hours.

May 9, 2014I'm runnig windows 8 on my Sony labtop. The labtop is located in the kitchen. I connect the TV in the living room in ''dual screen mode'' to the labtop. When i'm listing to music on the labtop (windows media player), the 2 screens won't go to sleep even if I choose 1min to the sleep programing function. I found that there's two ways to choose the delay, in ''power saving'' mode and in control pannel. The thing is that the fix image on the labtop that is duplicate to the TV is actually breaking the TV (the images stay like phantom).
find a way to activate the ''fluid ligns animation'' on the TV afer one minute of inactivity on the labtop while listing to music.
No Login Screen When Boot Even In Safe Mode?
Aug 21, 2014One day, I rebooted, and then there was nothing. After Windows finished loading, there was naught but a black screen, and a cursor if I move the mouse quickly. This happens in safe mode as well, and on both my dedicated graphics card (an Asus AMD HD 6450 Silent) and my integrated graphics (Other than it is a Biostar A780L3G). When I try to refresh directly, with a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 installation media, it says it is invalid, despite it being x64, same as the installed version. When I try directly, it says the HDD is locked, and none of the guides I have followed to unlock it through the disk work. Also, I dont know if this matters or not, but when I try booting into safe mode, at first, when I move the mouse, in the corners, it says Safe Mode.

Mar 27, 2013I'm trying to run MEMTEST86 to test some memory which I suspect is bad so I can RMA it. I have 2x kits of 8GB DDR3 memory. Since I put in the second kit my PC has randomly been rebooting with no onscreen errors. I took that 8GB kit out and now it doesn't reboot anymore. But in order to have it RMA'd Corsair requires me to provide Memtest results.
Anyway, my PC doesn't have an optical drive so I have used memtest's USB Boot installer thing to create a bootable USB stick and plugged that in.
I am running Windows 8 and an Asus P8Z77-M Pro motherboard.
When I go in the BIOS the USB drive is detected there, it is a Lexar drive. If I set my boot order to be USB -> then my SSD it doesn't boot from the USB at all, it just goes straight to booting into Windows.
If I just tap F8 whilst booting to manually choose what I want to boot from I see the Lexar USB stick in there but if I choose it I start to see that Windows 8 blue dot rotating loading thing, then it just freezes in place and nothing happens. Neither the USB or Windows boots at that point and I have to manually reboot the PC.
Something of note in order to get Windows to boot normally I can't specifically choose my SSD as the boot device, I have to choose the uhh..I think it's called Windows Boot Loader or something like that in the BIOS.
Desktop Mode And Start Screen App Displayed At Same Time
Aug 15, 2013I was messing around with the Win 8.1 preview in a VM tonight and noticed that you can have the Desktop Mode opened half screen along with Modern UI apps on the other half of the screen. I haven't heard about this capability, only 2 Modern UI apps sharing the screen at any one time.

Debugging :: Black Screen When Waking From Sleep Mode With Legacy HW
Nov 24, 2013My system is old : MSI Neo2 Nforce3 + HD4650 Radeon AGP + 2 GB mem + AMD Athlon 3000+
However, I wanted to try Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation for it and was able to install it successfully with 32 bit version (64 bit didn't work). I installed Radeon legacy AGP Hotfix 12.6 drivers that seem to work for the old AGP card giving Youtube HD playback! Not too shabby for a single core beast.
So I have been happy with the system performance (faster to boot than XP etc.).
However, I have encountered two problems that I haven't been able to resolve:
1 - Realtek Gigabit Ethernet (8111) fails to initialize the Internet on some boots, requiring enable/disable driver to make it work. I have installed newest drivers from Realtek website but no effect.
2 - When the system goes to sleep, it wakes up with black screen and no way to get picture back except resetting the computer. I have tried to change my MB BIOS setup (I have the latest BIOS installed) to disable S3 and use only S1 mode but to no avail. Black screen awaits in every wake up. I have also experienced once the driver_power_state_failure error..
So, I see there are many posts about black screens and sleep modes but I haven't found the solution for Nforce3 motherboard AGP setups yet.

Mar 21, 2014My Windows8PC shows black screen with only mouse cursor instead of login screen. I tried chkdsk but it shows no errors. Even when i start in safe mode the screen stays black. I think it's a graphic driver problem, but i dont know how i can deactivate or delete the installed driver via cmd.

Now however it doesn't even get to the point where it could tell me what is wrong, no Windows logo. Just straight in black screen with a cursor in the top left. F2 will take me to BIOS (if I am quick), but no other keys work. Booted onto installation media to try startup repair, no joy, rollback also no joy, tried using command line following the instructions here to force a boot into safe mode but no joy.

what should i do to lower the CPU temp? is it possible that the CPU itself is defective so it overheating?
this is temp when i do some Hotcpu test, it passed, memtest86+ passed too this is temp at idle and usually it start BSOD when i play 720p-1080p videos and opening multible tabs in instance on chrome.
