May 17, 2014I can't even install KB2965065, I installed others given by Update Center, but can't install this 400 kb update, it fails everytime & boots computer 2-3 times.
I can give any type of Logs here.

Updates :: Failure Configuring Windows Updates From Clean Install
May 24, 2014After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.

Jan 17, 2014I'm constantly trying to update my Windows 8 but I'm unable to do so, because everytime I try to update it, it fails to install because of an errors. To be specific, its two updates with different errors 8007371B and 80073712.
Those two updates are the only one showing up. Their id is KB2856373 (Update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's) and KB2781197 (Security update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's).
I have already tried sfc, chkdisk, Windows update diagnostics from Microsoft website, resetting the services, Windows build-in tool to fix Windows update errors and nothing worked.

Feb 16, 2014So some background. I had issues with being able to install ANYTHING from an MSI file. Then I wasn't able to install any updates from Windows Update. I then reinstalled Windows, and am now facing the same issue after a few days. I would rather not reinstall yet again.
I tried doing System Restore, but it just hangs. Windows Installer hangs on "preparing to install".

I realised the lack of computer restarts for updates, and I noticed that I have updates that need to be download. When I tried to download the updates, The progress seemed to stop. Thinking this was normal, I left the download to be. When I came back to it, It said that windows could not install the updates. want to try windows 8.1

The problem is I don't want to use my Dreamspark (OEM as far as I know) license on my work PC since it's an academic license if I'm not mistaking and this might cause some problems at work, and I also don't want to activate it on my 6 years old PC since I have some projects still going on and I'm planning on upgrading sometime next year.
So my question(s) is simple: Can I install the 90 days trial of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and reinstall again, on same PC after the trial is over?

Aug 23, 2014I need to install the .Net framework 3.5 sp1 on Windows 8.1 for Autodesk 3ds Max for work. I initially noticed this in the Max installer...just quit installing and says I need to connect to the internet. Of course I am connected just fine.
Tried Windows update, gave me this error: 0x800F0906
Tried enabling .net 3.5 from the features menu, but got the same Windows Update "connect to the internet" error.
I tried using command prompt to do this command: Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:E:sourcessxs /LimitAccess
That did not work, even with the installation media inserted, CMD gave me error 0x800f081f saying it could not locate the files on the Windows 8 installation disc (YES I DID INSERT THE CORRECT DRIVE LETTER)
I even copied the sxs folder directly to my C directory, directed the command to the folder itself and it still gave me the same error. The only thing I can think of to actually make that command work is if I had a Windows 8.1 disc instead of 8.
I've tried downloading multiple "offline" installers for it, but they all do the Windows Update crap that got me into this in the first place.

Oct 17, 2013I'm running Windows 8 at the moment and I am trying to get 8.1 installed.
I go into the Windows Store......and I get no option at all to download and install 8.1. Windows updates are on, not sure if that even matters though. Windows Store is just not giving me any option to install it, or even tell me that its available to download.
Now, I'm in the UK, but as I understood it, Microsoft's release of 8.1 was global. I have also done several reboots of the PC, no change.
Windows 8.1 - Can't Install Updates After System Reset
Jun 22, 2014I was running windows 8.1 back in January and it crashed during an update. After that, the system wouldn't start and just kept on going round in circles trying to fix itself. (See thread 'Solved: Can't fix windows 8.1, PC locked. Last post 28-2-2014.)
Under diagnostic tests at a local PC repair shop, a hard drive failure seemed to be the problem. Since it was under warranty, it went back to PC World who sent it back to Lenovo. I got it back in March but all they did was a system reset, putting it back on windows 8.
Everything is now working fine apart from one fact. It won't update. I just get the 'failure configuring updates, reverting changes' message. My metro tiles stopped working yesterday as well. I presume this is also an update issue. Under investigation it appears updates have never been installed. I came across a message saying the place where windows stores updates has been moved. How do I repair this, since the windows update troubleshooter doesn't work? I am fairly conversant in DOS, but it's been a while.
I'm using a Lenovo Ideacentre B340 running windows 8 with the following spec:
Intel Pentium CPU G645 @ 2.90GHz
DDR3 SDRAM
Lenovo Mahobay motherboard

I have enabled safemode startup on the F8 key and everything of importance is backed up.
Cannot Install Updates / The Component Store Has Been Corrupted
Sep 27, 2014I have been unable to instal updates for a while but unfortunately I put off looking into it and it has been far too long that I dont have a restore point to try.
The computer works completely fine otherwise so I would prefer to find a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows.
I think the problem is that the component store has been corrupted, I have tried Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from Admin command prompt but it says Error 14098 The component store has been corrupted.

Jun 23, 2014When I search for updates with windows update it finds the drivers I want but it gives me an error message whenever I try to install them.
I already tried downloading the latest windows update (when I install it, it says the update was succesful and asks me to restart, but when I search again after restarting the update shows up again and lets me install it again).
I also tried deleting and renaming my software distribution folder and using the windows troubleshooting program.
Overall I'm not really too fussed about most of the things it's trying to install apart from the drivers for the wireless reciever for my xbox controller as it won't work without them. When I try to install the driver files through device manager it gives me this error message
my main reason for mentioning the windows update problem is that I assume the problems are linked as the wireless reciever works perfectly on my laptop. Up to about a week ago it also worked perfectly on this computer using the same usb port that it uses now.
As you can see, on the 19th, it suddenly began to say "NULL DRIVER". I checked my system restore and it tells me that I installed a windows update on that day just before it suddenly stopped working. I tried reverting back to this restore point (before the update) and nothing had changed, the device still would not work.

Aug 13, 2014I have two PCs..a Dell desktop and a Sony laptop(Purchased last June) yesterday I received the windows 8.1 updates so I installed them on my Dell desktop, no problems, it installed it and shut down the PC just fine and I am on it right now..but with the Sony laptop its nothing but problems..I installed the updates, it reboots just fine, but when I try shutting down the laptop it just goes back to a loop like it keeps on booting up then crashes then I have to restore it to August 9th and then it shuts down fine..so I am not sure what is going on..is there a particular update that is causing this I wont install it I just cant figure it out and I have done the system restore 3 times already..it will say I have 32 updates to install(including 1 optional one) so I just installed 30 of them to see if it would work and then I shut down the computer and same issue so something Im installing is causing this problem

Aug 18, 2014So I had to do a System Repair thing where Windows would repair itself and removing all my apps but keep my documents, photos and music etc. So I was reinstalling every program again and also wanted to install the updates.
But I ran into 0x800f0922 error code and I couldnt install them. (I run Windows 8.1 Pro) I was trying to install Adobe Photoshop but couldnt continue cuz .NET framework 3.5 was required. But after trying to manually download + install I got the same error (0x800f0922). I've tried almost every cmd command but couldnt fix it.
I just reinstalled Windows and tried installing the updates again, but same thing. I cannot install any update at all.

May 11, 2014I just reinstalled 8 on a ssd and tried to install 8.1 from the store but it says i need to update windows first. I tried running windows update but i get an error saying "Windows could not search for new updates" error code 80240440. I tried everything I could find online and nothing seems to work. I tried restarting windows update, i tried turning off firewall, I tried reinstalling windows again and selecting "check for updates online" before installing from the cd, i tried running a check disk, and there is absolutely no program installed on the drive other than windows.

Updates :: No Boot After Updates - System Restore Only Option Available?
Aug 19, 2013 I have had to system restore 3 or 4 times in the last week or so as Windows 8 refuses to boot after installing the latest updates discovered from the last couple of weeks (though some are from December 2012)
I have unchecked all the current updates and have decided against installing them as they seem to be preventing Windows from booting.
Pattern - "Restart to install updates"
Restart locks on the start screen - Restart again and locks again (repeat this process 3x)
"Windows is automatically repairing..." - Fails
"Windows must restore settings to a previous time..." - Usually succeeds, sometimes fails.
Then I can get back into Windows.
As soon as I install these updates, I won't get back into Windows until I system restore since before the updates and my build won't remain stable unless I prevent Windows from installing these updates.What could be going on?
They are quite big updates (totalling ~740mb and have all been discovered in the last week or so though some date back to late last year)

Mar 13, 2014I was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.
I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.
I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".
I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).
Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?

Sep 15, 2014I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.

Jul 15, 2014So I restored my system because I had no other choice from it not booting before and it was working for a day, then when I restarted it said 'installing XX / 93 updates' so I let that run, and when It finally finished, it restarted said 'configuring windows updates XX% complete...' and then it suddenly said "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." and then it looped this by restarting, trying to configure them, and then saying "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." again...
I've got back into safe mode, what should I do to make it update properly again?
Someone suggested toggling "Secure Boot" in the BIOS, is that worth a try?
