Cannot Install Updates / The Component Store Has Been Corrupted
Sep 27, 2014
I have been unable to instal updates for a while but unfortunately I put off looking into it and it has been far too long that I dont have a restore point to try.
The computer works completely fine otherwise so I would prefer to find a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows.
I think the problem is that the component store has been corrupted, I have tried Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from Admin command prompt but it says Error 14098 The component store has been corrupted.
I will attach the dism.log
My spec if needed; AMD FX-8320, Radeon R9 270X 2GB , 16GB DDR3, ASRock 970 Extreme3, Windows 8.1
I've been having problems with my laptop recently. I actually care less when it comes to updates since it's automatic, but I noticed that it refuses to install any drivers (which means I cannot access any USB drives or install programs that requites drivers) or updates, after searching for solutions on the internet, I found out in a website that said kb2919355 causes component store corruption that is irreparable, which is the update that I have already installed. I've tried repairing with DISM but it all fails, probably because the update causes the component store to corrupt when StartComponentCleanup is triggered.
I want this to be fixed but my restore point is already deleted since it's probably too old (which is weird that I'm having this problem since the update has been installed for months). I don't want to reinstall my Windows either, so what now?
I'm running Windows 8 at the moment and I am trying to get 8.1 installed.
I go into the Windows Store......and I get no option at all to download and install 8.1. Windows updates are on, not sure if that even matters though. Windows Store is just not giving me any option to install it, or even tell me that its available to download.
Now, I'm in the UK, but as I understood it, Microsoft's release of 8.1 was global. I have also done several reboots of the PC, no change.
I'm trying to install Visio Pro 2013 on my Windows 8.1 business laptop running Office 365. This is a new PC so the only things installed on it are 64 bit versions of Office.
When attempting to install, I get an error that the Office Extensibility Component is a 32 bit Office piece. I've tried to uninstall this component on my personal PC and it rendered Office 365 unusable. I had to perform a System Restore to get it working again. I don't want to attempt this on my work PC.
32 Bit Office has never been on this PC. How did the Component get here?
How can I safely install Visio 2013 Professional?
Couldn't paste error message into screen, so I attached a file image.
I had a problem with BSOD and tried to run sfc /scannow command but found corrupted files and couldn't fix them, I finally resorted to clean installation, today I received a new BSOD with error 0x0c000021a, and tried again sfc /scannow and message appeared FOUND "CORRUPTED FILES, BUT COULDN'T FIX THEM".*
1. I have currently two hard drives plugged into my computer that I'll name (A) and (B)
2. Before the problem :
(A) was partitioned half into a windows ultimate 64 bit and half into windows 8 Pro 64 bit
(B) was partitioned into one windows 8 Pro 64 bit partition.
3. I am currently running on (B) but it's connected and I can see (A)'s file and interact with some but obviously not those protected.
So what happened is I started experience some disk usage issue so I did :
-I put the paging file size to my ram -I changed the power settings -I ran a dskchk (no errors found) -I removed the file indexing -I removed the paging file size
Nothing really worked so I thought of unplugging (B) which didn't worked so I thought it might have been the multiple partitions that was causing the problem.
So I went into aomei partition assistant, formatted window 7's partition and merged it with windows 8.
Now when I boot my computer on drive (A) it still me the choice between windows 7 and windows 8
If I choose 7 it gives me a black screen saying something is missing (which is normal since the partition has been formatted)
If I choose 8 it takes a long time to load gets me to the log-in screen where my icon has disappeared but my username remains.
If enter the wrong password it still recognizes it's wrong.
None of the two buttons at the bottom works (ergonomics? and exit)
Login in loads for a while and then either black screens me or leaves it hanging without the loading icon.
Safe mode leads to a black screen
Auto repair doesn't find any errors
And try to refresh my windows 8 tells me to go into the actual drive of the OS which I do believe I'm on.I'd like to keep as many files as possible and I didn't even want to refresh for a while because I was afraid of losing my applications.
how to fix a corrupted looking Windows 8 start menu with no corrupted files found. I know that's a really bad way to explain the situation. I have uploaded a screenshot which I hope explains the issues. I wanted to add the blank squares do not work and also the Maps button.
After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.
I'm constantly trying to update my Windows 8 but I'm unable to do so, because everytime I try to update it, it fails to install because of an errors. To be specific, its two updates with different errors 8007371B and 80073712.
Those two updates are the only one showing up. Their id is KB2856373 (Update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's) and KB2781197 (Security update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's).
I have already tried sfc, chkdisk, Windows update diagnostics from Microsoft website, resetting the services, Windows build-in tool to fix Windows update errors and nothing worked.
So some background. I had issues with being able to install ANYTHING from an MSI file. Then I wasn't able to install any updates from Windows Update. I then reinstalled Windows, and am now facing the same issue after a few days. I would rather not reinstall yet again.
I tried doing System Restore, but it just hangs. Windows Installer hangs on "preparing to install".
I have an Asus GAC computer with Windows 8 OEM version. When I go to Windows store I see the 8.1 upgrade notification. When I click on it I get a message asking me to do all the upadates. When I do all the updates, the Store notification disappears.
I have to uninstall some updates to have the notification back on the Windows store but still asking me to do all the available updates.
My Windows 8 version is fully activated 'ASUS OEM)
I recently built my own computer, and have been using it problem free for a while up to now. I realised the lack of computer restarts for updates, and I noticed that I have updates that need to be download. When I tried to download the updates, The progress seemed to stop. Thinking this was normal, I left the download to be. When I came back to it, It said that windows could not install the updates. want to try windows 8.1
I am trying to update my system to the new Windows 8. I am already operating on the old one, so the update should be free. My computer will not load the store to allow me to update my software.
I have (also according to Windows Control Panel > Installed Updates) successfully installed KB2919355 on 13th Apr 2014. So to me, the KB2919355 is in place (and various KB installations after that, too) <- I do get all the Windows System updates (including security updates) BUT not Windows Store application updates.
So the problem is the "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490" which pops into Windows Event log on daily basis.
TEMPORARILY fix: running Windows update troubleshooter fixes the problem (it stops and restarts BITS and Cryptographic services) and after a while I get a notification to the Windows Store Tile that there are new updates (if any). BUT after rebooting Windows the problem (Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490) always re-appears in the Event logs.
Here is the report of successful Windows update troubleshooter.
Also:
1) running DISM does not work (see below)
2) Going to Store settings and "Sync licenses" does not work
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth -> [==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the comp onent store cannot be repaired. Error: 0x800f081f DISM failed. No operation was performed. For more information, review the log file. The DISM log file can be found at C:WINDOWSLogsDISMdism.log
I have had this Windows 8 64 bit laptop for 6 weeks now and I wish I had never bought it. Recently I have found that I am unable to update apps in Store or even to download new apps. I have read the responses from other members to previous requests on this subject and I have applied the 'fixes' they recommend but the problem is still there.
I got my new tablet today and am having no issues with anything except the Store. It takes forever to open but it shows that I have 26 apps needing updates. I clicked on a random app and clicked on install and it just shows pending on my screen. I'm surfing the web, downloading windows updates, etc...
I thought Windows Search would be only the indexer function. So I went to Control Panel, Add remove programs, Install or Remove Windows components/resources (I have portuguese windows) And I removed Windows Search
But now I can't use any search feature (example: on explorer, on w8 start menu). So I tried to install again selecting "Windows Search" on windows components, but after click OK, nothing happens!
I can't install the (Microsoft) Minesweeper-App from the store. My initial try to install the app was interrupted, and since then, every install hangs for quite some time ("Pending"), then ends with "This app is no longer available." or "This app wasn't installed."
I already tried deleting all caches and pieces from the failed first install attempt I could find, but that didn't work.
I bought a new Windows 8 laptop in the beginning of January and the apps always ran smoothly. Earlier today I noticed the Messenger app wasn't working so I uninstalled it. When I tried to re install the mail, calendar, people, messenger app it wouldn't install. I then tried to download the updates for my other installed apps and that didn't work either.
i have recently installed windows 8.1 on a new extended partition while keeping my windows 8 in previous partition. do i need to install the store windows 8.1 update ? as shown in another thread this looks like it has the update
Yesterday i got error 0x80074D0A while installing metro apps from the window store.. and i found the solution , it must on window firewall , and i want to turn on but cant...
In the image :Why is that? how to solve it ,the store doesn't work? It disappears with fresh install! Does taking ownership of some system files result in store failure?
I can't even install KB2965065, I installed others given by Update Center, but can't install this 400 kb update, it fails everytime & boots computer 2-3 times.
I want to get started with WP8/8.1 dev and I decided to dual boot on my work laptop (Mac Book).
The problem is I don't want to use my Dreamspark (OEM as far as I know) license on my work PC since it's an academic license if I'm not mistaking and this might cause some problems at work, and I also don't want to activate it on my 6 years old PC since I have some projects still going on and I'm planning on upgrading sometime next year.
So my question(s) is simple: Can I install the 90 days trial of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and reinstall again, on same PC after the trial is over?
I need to install the .Net framework 3.5 sp1 on Windows 8.1 for Autodesk 3ds Max for work. I initially noticed this in the Max installer...just quit installing and says I need to connect to the internet. Of course I am connected just fine.
Tried Windows update, gave me this error: 0x800F0906
Tried enabling .net 3.5 from the features menu, but got the same Windows Update "connect to the internet" error.
I tried using command prompt to do this command: Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:E:sourcessxs /LimitAccess
That did not work, even with the installation media inserted, CMD gave me error 0x800f081f saying it could not locate the files on the Windows 8 installation disc (YES I DID INSERT THE CORRECT DRIVE LETTER)
I even copied the sxs folder directly to my C directory, directed the command to the folder itself and it still gave me the same error. The only thing I can think of to actually make that command work is if I had a Windows 8.1 disc instead of 8.
I've tried downloading multiple "offline" installers for it, but they all do the Windows Update crap that got me into this in the first place.
Ive installed Update 1 on two of my three desktop PCs but on my main PC, it's not showing up in the MS Update window. I tried installing it manually via: Download Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355) from Official Microsoft Download Center But it says this cant be installed on that PC.
When I'm installing Win 8.1 Pro, it starts automatically "Checking for Updates" near the end of install process. That is before getting to Windows Start screen/Desktop.
I'm using a autounattend.xml file, but didn't find a way to skip "Checking for Updates" yet. It is the only answer I could not automate. Trying to do that without user intervention. Just by means of autounattend.xml file.
I can't install .NET Framework 3.5 no matter what I do. I tried downloading it and in the midway get the error 0x800f0906. I tried installing through DISM but that didn't work either. It always stops at 65.8 %.
I was running windows 8.1 back in January and it crashed during an update. After that, the system wouldn't start and just kept on going round in circles trying to fix itself. (See thread 'Solved: Can't fix windows 8.1, PC locked. Last post 28-2-2014.)
Under diagnostic tests at a local PC repair shop, a hard drive failure seemed to be the problem. Since it was under warranty, it went back to PC World who sent it back to Lenovo. I got it back in March but all they did was a system reset, putting it back on windows 8.
Everything is now working fine apart from one fact. It won't update. I just get the 'failure configuring updates, reverting changes' message. My metro tiles stopped working yesterday as well. I presume this is also an update issue. Under investigation it appears updates have never been installed. I came across a message saying the place where windows stores updates has been moved. How do I repair this, since the windows update troubleshooter doesn't work? I am fairly conversant in DOS, but it's been a while.
I'm using a Lenovo Ideacentre B340 running windows 8 with the following spec:
Intel Pentium CPU G645 @ 2.90GHz DDR3 SDRAM Lenovo Mahobay motherboard 440GB Hard Drive
I have enabled safemode startup on the F8 key and everything of importance is backed up.
