I thought Windows Search would be only the indexer function. So I went to Control Panel, Add remove programs, Install or Remove Windows components/resources (I have portuguese windows) And I removed Windows Search
But now I can't use any search feature (example: on explorer, on w8 start menu). So I tried to install again selecting "Windows Search" on windows components, but after click OK, nothing happens!
I added some apps from the Store to my initial Owner/Admin account on Win 8.1. Today, I wanted to have them show on the account that will be used for everyday non-admin stuff. I logged into Microsoft with this account and attempted to add them to show on this account (after temporarily promoting account to Admin). Store said it was "already installed." So....I logged back into initial owner/admin account, and used the "uninstall" (not just unpin) option on the bottom of the Start Screen, thinking that I couldn't have them on two accounts so I'll get rid of them on one account. But...when I went back to install the apps on the new account from the Store, I get the same message. I looked for the apps via Control Panel, but nothing shows.
How can I get these apps to install/reinstall when they think they're already there? Are they on my machine where I can actually see/remove/use them? Where are they hiding?
I have uninstalled "HP Coolsense" from my PC and can't find a reference to it anywhere. But it still shows up in my windows search (the one that shows up from the right) . . with an icon and everything (unfortunately I can't snip that but I could the error that comes up, which is attached).
Is there a way to refresh this? I can't right-click on the entry either--it doesn't do anything.

I use CCleaner 4.14.4707 and recently uninstalled Mozilla Firefox from my computer few days ago. I've just realized that when I open CCleaner, I still see a 'Firefox' section at the left sidebar of the app, and there's a Firefox tab (containing some entries) in the Startup list, though the Firefox itself had already been removed.
I try to clean registry using Wise, and re-install CCleaner, but those things still exist.
How can I remove them?
I've been having problems with my laptop recently. I actually care less when it comes to updates since it's automatic, but I noticed that it refuses to install any drivers (which means I cannot access any USB drives or install programs that requites drivers) or updates, after searching for solutions on the internet, I found out in a website that said kb2919355 causes component store corruption that is irreparable, which is the update that I have already installed. I've tried repairing with DISM but it all fails, probably because the update causes the component store to corrupt when StartComponentCleanup is triggered.
I want this to be fixed but my restore point is already deleted since it's probably too old (which is weird that I'm having this problem since the update has been installed for months). I don't want to reinstall my Windows either, so what now?
I have been unable to instal updates for a while but unfortunately I put off looking into it and it has been far too long that I dont have a restore point to try.
The computer works completely fine otherwise so I would prefer to find a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows.
I think the problem is that the component store has been corrupted, I have tried Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from Admin command prompt but it says Error 14098 The component store has been corrupted.

I'm trying to install Visio Pro 2013 on my Windows 8.1 business laptop running Office 365. This is a new PC so the only things installed on it are 64 bit versions of Office.
When attempting to install, I get an error that the Office Extensibility Component is a 32 bit Office piece. I've tried to uninstall this component on my personal PC and it rendered Office 365 unusable. I had to perform a System Restore to get it working again. I don't want to attempt this on my work PC.
32 Bit Office has never been on this PC. How did the Component get here?

It is not under installed programs so I cannot 'uninstall' it.
Windows 8 search refuses to search items in my control panel. For example, if I tap the windows key and type "power options" or "Sound" I get nothing. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to work as it's mentioned in many of Microsoft's own documents as the easiest way to navigate to these settings.
Other searches are working, including files on secondary drives, etc.
I've decided to go ahead and reinstall w8pro given my extensive messing around with it has finally caused some quirky, unexpected results - it's a relatively new installation, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, didn't get a chance to install a lot of third party programs and such. The thing is, I did purchase and install the Windows 8 media center pack - how do i go about getting this back? do i have to contact ms? I'm fairly certain that i don't have an activation number for the pack, if i recall i just paid for it online and then was allowed to download it and install it.
Also, i thought i would go ahead and do a clean install all over again as opposed to a reset or refresh given i want to make certain that i'm starting from scratch again... or do you think a reset or refresh might be the better option (i'm not concerned about keeping any personal settings or files intact).

Upon restarting my laptop, my apps were uninstalled (and I just re-installed them) but my program files were also uninstalled. Yea, I can just install them all again but some program file that were uninstalled were my Microsoft Office that I paid for and the paid software that came preinstalled on my laptop (Like the webcam, movie editor, etc). I really need those software (especially office) but I do not want to pay for them. Would a system restore bring back those files? Is that the only way I can get those programs (and others) back?

However, i just made a new account (microsoft) and i installed this one app. I did not like it very much so I uninstalled. However, when i log in at my market and browse to my apps, under the Apps installed in device Sotxxxxx it shows that very app there, saying at the bottom "Not installed". What can i do? Is there anyway to add the same capability to the Start Screen Search. So far all I can do is put in the word "favorites" and start screen search finds the Favorites folder but it can't find any of the internet shortcuts (*.url files) within the Favorites folder. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy main problem is that I accidentally uninstalled MS Office earlier today from my Dell Inspiron which I bought in 2012; the second problem is that I can't do a system restore to get it back to the point before the accidental un-installation. I'm on Windows 8. It keeps telling me there's something wrong but when I run a check on the C: drive, everything comes up fine. I opened the computer in safe mode, do a system restore and same thing happens - error.

I uinstalled and reinstalled my network adapter and I hard reset my modem back to default out of box. My icon my the time says there's a connection but when I try anything internet wise is says there is none. What to do I dont have any backups yet.. I guess I'll have to wipe it.
