Setup Installation :: Windows 8 To 8.1 - Unable To Reboot?

Jan 24, 2014

bought Win 8 for a Win 7 Dell laptop in Jan. 2013 and have happily used Win 8 for a year. I have a Win 8 backup disc and valid license key.

I decided to update Win 8 to the free Win 8.1 a few days ago and went ahead with the download and installation of Win 8.1. However, after a seemingly successful installation, set up and login, a simple reboot resulted in no longer being able to boot. I can boot to safe mode but cannot boot properly no matter what I do.

There is no specific error message when I reboot, the OS simply fails to reach the login stage and reboots again. It then opens the 'Failed startup' page asking if I wish to use advanced options or restart.I tried turning off all non-Microsoft software like AVG, Comodo, Samsung Keys, etc., but it didn't solve the issue.

I also noticed that Safe Mode boot fails when I attempt to boot to 'Safe Mode with Networking' but is successful when booting to simple 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'. I have attempted to burn the Win 8.1 disc as described on this site but from a Win XP system which according to the download software is not possible and unfortunately I do not have access to another system.

Maintenance :: Laptop Wakeup From Sleep Reboot

Aug 27, 2013

I recently upgraded my laptop, an HP g6-1b60us from Win 7 to Win 8Pro. All works fine, except when the Laptop wakes up from sleep. It has to reboot. Knowing that the HP POwer Manager was not compatible, I had uninstalled it. That still didn't resolve the problem. I finally ran a power efficiency diagnostics report. It's 6pages long, but in the end, different usb items prevent the laptop from entering sleep/suspend state. I only recognize one of them.

Setup Installation :: Unable To Install Windows 8.1 On Preinstalled 8 Laptop

Aug 19, 2014

Its a HP Envy laptop with a 1TB HDD running on windows 8. But the laptop has been having a lot of start-up errors and finally some files corrupted and windows wouldn't function properly. So I decided to reformat it to 8.1, a complete wipe to get rid of all the pre-installed HP crap.

So here's what I've tried, in the same order.

> I tried to install windows 8.1 through windows 8. -It failed after it restarted-
> I tried to install windows 8.1 through USB ontop of the Windows Partition (There were 5 partitions). -It failed because of a GPT (If I remember correctly) Partition error-
> I decided to delete all the partition and install Windows 8.1 ontop the entire 1TB disk space. -It started installing but then failed with an error code 0x80070057-
> I tried diskpart through CMD to clean the disk drive then followed with a format to ntfs -It always just sticks on 0 percent%-
> I tried all the same steps with Windows 7 -The exact same errors happen-

I've got one last option, plug the HDD into my desktop and try to format it that way but this is a lot of work so I'd like to keep it as a last resort.

I am trying to open a webpage [URL] in my laptop (Acer) but am unable to open it after entering username and password.

I am able to open it from my another laptop (Dell).

All I am getting is continuous circling of java after entering my login details. In the laptop where it is getting opened, after entering my login details, I straightaway get a pop up of security warning of do you want to run this application - but not in where it is not getting opened. After entering my login credentials, Java message just keeps circling. I compared java in both laptops, microsoft silverlight package, adobe flash, shockplayer, internet options, firefox options but still unable to proceed further after entering my login details. OS is Windows 8.1,jave installed is latest both 32 and 64 bits.Java verify is detecting java working fine, java settings shows it is enabled in browser I already uninstalled anti-virus and tried but still no success so re-installed antivirus.

Network / Sharing :: New ASUS Laptop - Unable To Connect To Public WiFi

Jun 11, 2014

I purchased a new ASUS laptop a couple of days ago and have been trying to use the hotel wifi where I am staying to do the various updates and installs that new computers require. Unfortunately, while I can connect to my tethered cell phone, I cannot connect to the hotel.

I have another computer on hand that has no difficulties connecting to the hotel wifi, so I know the problem is in the new computer somewhere.

Network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11ac

Actions so far:

-Updated Windows 8.1 to current
-Attempted to reinstall drivers (uninstalling first) - Drivers are up to date and identical to the ones on manufacturer's site.

Have To Reboot Windows 8.1 Several Times

Aug 21, 2014

Im having a nightmare getting my Windows 8.1 to boot properly. I've Had Windows 8 for over a year now! and I was forced to roll back to Windows 7. But now it's time to get it working properly!

Here is my problem:

My pc boots to a black screen after windows logo (no cursor or anything) and when it does i have to reboot my pc about 5-6 times before it actually boots properly. Now here's the biggest problem--> when I have made a succesfull boot (after rebooting 5-6 times) i have to shutdown my computer and wait 2-3 hours at least, before i can recreate the error again. This makes the problem solving process even more painful.

I've tried just about anything that I could find on the web and weirdly enough, My problem doesn't seem to be quite the same as all the other posts -_- ..

Here's a list of things that I've tried that i can remember:

Updated all drivers to latest versionsReinstalled several timesenabled UEFI boot (and disabled)Booted with only 1 monitor connected (tried VGA and DVI)disabled fast startup

(I didn't connect unessecary hardware or had cd's in the machine. Only a monitor, keyboard and mouse)

I've properly tried more than that, but can't remember it all.

I was told that i should try to connect a monitor using a hdmi cable, because Windows 8 could shoot the signal out of the HDMI port.

Windows 8.1 Changes A Certain Partition Letter On Reboot?

Aug 24, 2014

He has a DELL XPS machine, an i7 newer model running 8.1, he's got a main internal HD as C: and a permanently added USB drive with 3 partitions ad D: E: and F: but on reboot the F: partition suddenly goes up a letter to G:, the other two stay the same.

Apparently its been fine until recently when this started happening, I made sure the used Disk Management to change the letter back but on reboot its back to G:

He has no other devices attached and any other USB drives either have a selected letter near the end of the alphabet or are not assigned a set letter but none are attached when the machine boots. It sounds like the F: is being reserved by something, possibly registry wise but I don't have the machine in front of me to check and I would rather its me using regedit and he's got slippery fingers due to arthritis and is prone to over clicking and wrong key presses.

where to check or what to check, I've done as much as I can via Skype but at a loss as to why its only doing it to one partition and always the same one, also did a dischk and the partiton is ok.

Computer Will Not Reboot After Windows Updates

Well anytime it turns off, it won't turn back on. The last time it did this, it corrupted the BCD.

The computer shuts down ok via the menu, and will start back up when I power it on, but if I hit restart, it just shuts off, and won't come back on unless the power button is pressed.

All Personal Changes Disappear When Reboot Windows 8

Jul 9, 2014

This is a new computer and OS for me, so I may just not be familiar with how it is SUPPOSED to work. When we got the computer I loaded Office, Photoshop, Browsers, etc. I set up the tiles on the start menu. But since the computer rebooted (and every time since then), the tiles have disappeared and the computer acts like its the first time I've used Firefox ("do you want to make this your default browser?").

Each time I reboot, Word is still on the computer but it has to activate and set my initials as if I've never opened it on the computer before. The only hint of something I think I could do differently is that when I'm on the " PC Settings(?)" screen under Sync options it tells me I am logged into a temporary profile. I can't figure out how to change this though.

Windows 8.1 Black Screen On Reboot

Since the last two days I am having a problem where when I restart my system it automatically gives me a black screen, nothing happens at all and I have to shut down my laptop by pressing the power button and then start it again.

Refreshing my PC is my last option as I shall lose a lot of apps and other stuff.
