My laptop was frozen and I couldn't get to my start menu to restart it so I did a hard reboot. Now when I try to start the blue windows icon comes up for a few seconds with the rotating dots then the screen goes black. Eventually I hear the windows start up sound, but nothing on the screen.
View 9 RepliesIn order to run Corel Draw X6 I need a service to run in the background, called PSI-SVC-2, also known as Protexis Licencing V2.
Under Task Manager/Services it's always default set to "Stopped". No matter how many times I set it to start automatically, it always resets to Manual after a restart.
Is there another tweak I need to make to have this particular service run on reboot?

I have been trying to reboot my dells laptop (windows 8) but I cannot because it's asking for a recovery media and restart with the media. I did not create a recovery disc yet, so how can I reboot my laptop without a disc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my laptop, an HP g6-1b60us from Win 7 to Win 8Pro. All works fine, except when the Laptop wakes up from sleep. It has to reboot. Knowing that the HP POwer Manager was not compatible, I had uninstalled it. That still didn't resolve the problem. I finally ran a power efficiency diagnostics report. It's 6pages long, but in the end, different usb items prevent the laptop from entering sleep/suspend state. I only recognize one of them.

The problem it is the only Dell machine around and I lost my recovery key. I have useful files therein that I would like to recover and backup but it would not get even to the C: prompt by any option. How can can I create a recovery disk from the web or I must get another Dell machine? This is acutely an emergency for any asap response will go along way for me.

Getting the limited connectivity problem when waking up my Toshiba laptop running 8.1. Having to reboot it every time I go to use it is getting old. Tried telling it not to shut off the wireless network car when going to sleep but that didn't seem to work.

I have my settings set that when my laptop lid is closed, nothing happens.
Using samsung chronus 7 laptop : Windows 8.1 64 bit OS.
On start up get the samsung screen then a blue screen with a sad face saying pc needs to restart. Then goes in a continuous reboot.
I tried using the Windows 8 recovery cd. But get on the screen press any key to boot from cd. but press any key has no effect and goes back into loop as before.
Press f2 to get to bios reset defaults, no luck either, tried f10 just get boot up order, unable to find what keys boots into recovery mode, f8 does nothing no safemode.
Windows was preinstalled.
I tried to make partitions on my hard disk and then tried to reboot the system, but it fails to reboot, error 0xc0000225 (winloader) on blue screen. BIOS sees the harddisk. I can also load the recovery program (hp), but it provides me only 1 option - to make system recovery to factory settings and losing all I have on my hard disk. Can it be somehow possible to recover win 8 and start it without factory settings recovery and losing files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHad, and still have installed in machine, an SSD with Windows 7 as OS Had, and still have, a Western Digital 2 TB external HD attached. It was used as back up for the original set up. This also has the Smart Ware software installed but which I have not used.
Tried a dual boot on a new SSD using Windows 8.1 recently but turned out ot be a pain so I simply installed 8.1 on new disk.
When I boot and Windows 8.1 starts, window showing the external hard drive and contents appears. How can I stop this?
I am planning to reformat this external storage and redo the back up using the new 8.1 OS and current content of the my other HDD containing our data, will this likely stop the "pop-up" on start?

I found a windows 8 pro dvd but it did not activate maybe because laptop came with basic. I want to activate it without an activator as its not my laptop, and it did come with windows 8 genuine on it. I notice all the links here are dead and all the torrent are for other than basic windows 8.
My Seagate Portable Drive seems to work as the green light comes on.

Other solutions have been to right click and assign a drive, but those listed below other that the C: don't allow.

Now I cannot boot into anything. Short of ordering recovery dvds from Toshiba, is there a legal way to reinstall Windows 8 back on this laptop?

A new 25 GB hard drive appeared, everything was fine.
Now I would like to sell this laptop but I don't know how to put the recovery partition back in its place or if it's even possible.
I know the backup it's complete because the data size t's the same and when i tried it, the restore was from the scratch, even with the sony wizard before the windows configuration.

I pulled the hard drive and set it up as an external drive, so I can see all the files through my new windows 8 laptop. I downloaded and installed windows live mail 2012 on the new laptop, tracked down all my email files and manually transferred them over -- that worked like a charm. Transferring the contacts is not so easy, though.
The contact file appears to be "contacts.edb," but it's a hidden file. Even when I check the appropriate box to show hidden files, it still won't show. And if I search for the file, it doesn't show. BUT, if I search for the folder "DBStore" then the file "dbstore.ini" shows up, and when I select "open file location" the hidden files are visible in that folder, including "contacts.edb." Still with me?
I can't open the old live mail program to export this file -- I can drag it into the appropriate folder on the new laptop, but windows live 2012 pretends like it's not there. I've downloaded 3 different format conversion programs to convert an edb file to pst or csv or whatever, but none of them have worked. So, the only other thing I can think of is trying to get live email 2012 to look directly at the old file in it's old spot on the old hard drive, but I don't know if that's possible.

HP says that there can be a upgrade till 4 GB 2x2GB, so i bought that and when i installed it the win 8 start up hangs when the Windows 8-loge appears and than the dotted circle stops and everything freezes!
When I go into the bios, I can check the memory so check of 4 GB of memory goes well until 24% than the graphics does strange blocked screen n different colors. Strange that each mem of 2GB single placed works fine. How to get the 4GB working on my laptop?
I bought an HP laptop with windows 8 a few months ago, and since day one I have had this issue. At seemingly random times, the keys will stop using their normal function and start doing other things. For example, the F key will open up my files, hitting my down arrow key will minimize whatever window I have open. Oddly enough, the only way I have been able to figure out how to make this stop for the time is to open up my speech narrator, and then close it, and it makes everything go back to normal.

I have a windows 8 laptop that won't boot from either the Hard Drive or Optical Drive. I have taken the Hard drive out and connected it to my desktop that runs Windows 7. I have tried with an USB external adapter and connected directly to the motherboard with SATA and power cables. Neither way has produced a readable drive that I can see any files on.
I need to know if there is an issue with reading Windows 8 formated hard drives in a windows 7 environment or is there something wrong with this hard drive?
I was using my laptop and this came up on my screen [URL] .... After my laptop restarted, I used it for about 5 minutes before it froze. When i next used my laptop, It stayed on the Toshiba screen (the first screen when the laptop is turned on). After about 3 or 4 minutes, the laptop opens the automatic repair feature and this comes up on the screen [URL] ..... I have tried tapping both F8 and F12 throughout start up to try and repair the computer although this doesnt work either. I have opened the boot menu and tried to select the HDD Recovery option although it says no bootable media, please restart system.

I turn on my laptop and I get my welcome screen. I type in my password to get to my start screen. But then it freezes. I can't click to access my start screen or any other tabs I have nor can I scoll from left to right. It just freezes. The only thing I can do is press ctrl-alt-del to shut down my laptop. I try again and the same thing happens. I get stuck on my start screen and can't do anything.

Now yesterday, when the mouse pad on the laptop froze up, I drummed on it a bit to get it working and the laptop suddenly shut off and this message appears when trying to start up: BootDevice Not Found.
