I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 and the start up has become very slow. Glary Utilities tells me it took 2m39s and only 1% of users are slower. I've tried cleaning it with CCleaner and Glary, removing unnecessary start up items and defragging.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOver a month ago, I noticed that my system had started to become very slow, taking a long time to switch between apps, or between tabs in Chrome (even with only a few tabs open).
I've constantly had Resource Monitor open to try and track down the source of the problem. Initially, I thought this was a problem with Chrome or my pagefile, because Chrome was often at/near the top of Disk Activity, manipulating pagefile.sys. However, it seems like the amount of data being manipulated isn't very large; typically well below 1 MB/sec. I tried moving my pagefile to a secondary hard drive to no effect.
I've downloaded and run multiple programs to check hard drive health, and none of them have found any problems. I'm not talking about simple S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics, but in-depth scans.
Thinking that it might be a problem with Windows 7 at the time, I wiped the drive and installed Windows 8.1. I installed the latest motherboard drivers and disabled Windows search and file indexing. The problem remains. The fact that the problem persists after wiping the drive had me thinking it's likely a hardware problem. Alas, various hard drive scanners haven't found a problem.
I have 8GB of memory; rarely is more than 4GB ever in use. Both of my hard drives have plenty of free space (400+ GB each).
This is Windows 8.1. When I wake my computer from sleep, regardless of how long the computer has been sleeping, it takes 10-15 minutes to complete the process. It takes about a minute or so for the lock screen to show up. When it does appear, everything seems to be working but I click on the lock screen to reveal the password entry and a grey screen emerges but no password box or profile photo. Its as if the password box and photo are just missing on the page. So as I wait for the password box to appear, the lock screen will eventually return. I have to keep clicking on the lock screen to see if the password box has appeared.
Sometimes instead of the grey screen, the loading circle of dots animation is displayed but still behind the lock screen as above.
I am using windows 8 on my laptop (samsung np550p5c-s03). The task manager shows memory usage around 70% (5.6 GB of 7.9 GB) even when I have no apps running.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago, my HP Pavilion g7-2233cl laptop, running Windows 8, started looping at startup. I shot a brief video showing a few loops and posted it on YouTube: [URL] ....
Because of the looping, I am unable to input any commands through my keyboard or mouse once the looping starts. So, for example, I cannot get to Control Panel.
I was, however, able to click on Escape during a startup and run a hardware diagnostic. No hardware problems were found.
Sometimes, after looping for quite a while, the computer freezes up. It stops looping but then won't let me do anything else either.
This problem does NOT seem the same as the "Automatic Repair" issue I have seen described on YouTube. By the way, I also have Windows 8 running on a desktop computer.
While using the computer, periodically when I go to the start screen and search for something, it just hangs for about 20-60 seconds before responding. Now today, every single time I start the computer, it loads fine gets me to the start screen, but if I type anything for the search then it freezes on me for 20-60seconds. If I start it and immediately go to the desktop, I can run SOME programs like IE or Chrome but NOT Ventrilo or games (for 20-60 seconds). Also, TASK manager will not come up nor do any of the windows 8 "charms" work for that time frame.
I am at a loss, this is a fresh OS install about a month ago on a brand new Samsung 840 SSD. All my drivers are up to date, I didn't have this issue a week ago but I did have a system restore point that I restored my computer to and that didn't fix it.
I also tried the Windows Startup Repair, and it tells me it could not repair it and to check my log at "F:/Window...." whereas I have NO F:/ drive and Windows is obviously installed on my C:/ drive (also, it will not allow me to "refresh" my computer. *I have legit Windows 8 Keys that I purchased

my laptop (Asus A45V) is only 7 months old, this was originally from my father but since he isn't using it anymore he gave it to me. The problem goes like this, after he gave the laptop to me, i reformatted the laptop (reset to factory settings) then i noticed even after the reformat the laptop is slow. I tried to update every drivers and BIOS but the problem still persists. Sometimes it even hangs up and i can't do anything but to wait. And also i downloaded a game (which i truly believe the laptop can handle it since the requirements isn't that high end, the game's Heroes of Newerth) I can't even play it normally even on low settings the game runs very slow. I have windows 8 pro, my pc is very fast 4 gb ram dual core with very good graphics card, its a gaming pc.
I installed windows 8 and i mainly dj on it, so i run some programs (traktor pro) and even after closing them windows starts being so slow and sticky, windows explorer stops responding, start screen freezes etc...
First let me say, I rarely leave my 8.1 system running all night as I generally switch off before bed.
On the FEW occasions I leave the system running all night I always get the "Your computer is low on memory" warning.
For instance, yesterday my software RAID mirror was "Re-synchronizing" and I wanted it to complete syncing so I left it running. NOTHING was running except Disk Manager. I closed down everything else. No browser, no Skype, no directory utility, no paint, no uTorrent....
Sure enough when I woke up this morning there it was....
A few days ago I wanted a couple of torrents to keep downloading so I kept the desktop running. Again NOTHING else was running and in the morning there it was....
I have 16Gb of memory and my pagefile.sys is 42Gb. My OS disc is a 250Gb SSD. I have set my system to hibernate after 5 hours idle. I have set the screen/display to sleep after 30 minutes.
The system isn't asleep when I wake as moving the mouse immediately brings the display back on line. Checking Task Manager shows NO memory hogs.
What I suspect is after 5 hours the hibernation process denies access to memory requests or something?
The strange thing is millions of people on 8.1 must leave their systems running all night but I have seen no mention of this behaviour.
i have a hp pavillion desktop pc which came with windows 7 installed, I later updated to windows 8 and at the same time has a SSD fitted , everything worked perfect for about 7 months then one day it just started to take about 10 mins to boot up ,The screen stayed black then it would start as normal , but if i shut down for 30 minutes or so or reset the computer it would start normal no black screen. i have done a clean reboot , unplugged all external USB devices and the 2nd internal HDD but the problem is still there, i noticed the SSD had 5 partions which i had not made and i am pretty sure they where not there before but i cant be 100% Sometimes the computer will start and some text will come up saying - Scanning and repairing drive (?Volume(14e1d751-2465-4769-9394-09ed6cc6aaf9}): 100% c

When I start my computer startup is slow and then when I get to desktop all the programs that are set to start at startup don't start. I try to launch google chrome and it never starts. I have googled this problem & tried many different possible solutions but none have worked, this problem happens at home on my broadband & at work so i dont think its anything to do with the router.
I have ran malwarebytes & avast many times, the 1st run of malwarebytes it found 2 objects but since they have been removed everything has been clear.
(I am running 8.1 on an MSI GT60 2OC). Everything will be fine for a good while and at some point when I switch to the start menu after scrolling my mouse out of the bottom left corner and off of the start button, the task bar and start button will drop down and dispensary like it should. However when I scroll over the corner again, it doesn't pop back up, I cant swipe up or down for my charms bar on the right or see my running apps on the left everything is unaccessible. It can be fixed temporary by re logging but its only a matter of time before it happens again. I have done many hd wipes and re-installations to resolve this issue. Nothing works.
I have some apps installed and some drivers. I also did a bios update and some firmware updated and at this point I am thinking it may be them. I cant clean boot to troubleshoot because sometimes the bug wont show up for a whole day. Since I have had the laptop, I have always had it on plugged in ... recently I unplugged my laptop to bring it in the other room and I could barely even more the mouse across the screen. My laptop is a Samsung, about 9 months old and has a pretty good spec. Suddenly, over the past few days, I've noticed that the keyboard in lagging whenever I'm logged on. It's fine at the login screen but, once I've logged on the problem occurs - and it happens on all programs. I know that this is specifically an issue with Windows 8, as I have a virtual Ubuntu machine on here that is working fine.
None of the keyboard settings have been altered and no new applications have been installed or upgraded recently.
I have a asus k53s that i recently upgrade to Windows 8 (from w7). Sometimes when i leave the laptop on but don't use it(idle), the fan will be constantly on even if its not doing anything like running a virus scan, and the screen will also shutdown going completly black. I can't move the mouse or press keys to "wake" the computer and i have to reboot the computer by pressing the power button.
.I have everything updated with the latest drivers, so i really don't understand the reason for this.
I just totally lost the sound of my laptop running on Windows 8. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running Windows 8.1 and recently I took a look at my Resource Monitor and noticed a process called numbers.exe with the description "Numbers". It showed it as running in the background but in a suspended state. As I've never seen that process before, I decided to search it up and it came up with some results related to a trojan / rootkit. But this trojan / rootkit was namely referred to as <random numbers>.exe (for example 123456789.exe); nothing indicating specifically the process "numbers.exe".
I did a bit of digging in the associated handles and noticed that some of the files were related to the default Windows Calculator App, which I have currently pinned to my Start. When I unpinned it from the Start the process was gone. so I'm assuming it is the process for the calculator. But because of a trojan incident I had a few years back, I'm a bit paranoid based of the searches that popped up for numbers.exe. So this "numbers.exe" is a legitimate process? Who also has the default calculator pinned to their start have this process running as "suspended"?
I have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.
The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.

I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.
So I bought a Acer Laptop (Acer Aspire E1-570G) that comes with 4GB of ram (2 months ago).
First problem I'd like to tell is that when I right-click to desktop, it loads for ~15sec untill it opens "Right-Click" menu up, and after that it loads about ~5sec, when I right click any icon, then it loads for ~5sec and when finally this right-click menu opens and I click "Open File location" then it loads for another ~10sec to open it's location. I saw that when you go to Device Manager and disable your graphics card and enable them, it would fix problems, also I tried ShellView, none of them worked.
Second problem is that after I updated my graphics drivers (NOT BETA) then after that at one time, all my 4GB will be used causing pc to freeze and I have to force restart it. Now I went and opened Task Manger and processes that "ate" my RAM were System and Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted) (8), first it's okay but after some time I was ablet to see how ram usage from normal, 1,8GB went up to 3.9GB in ~1min.
My friend has same problems and he has 8GB of ram, so me having 4GB can't be the issue.
Also I would mention that restarts are VERY slow, it loads the boot screen, then this white circle goes round and round, then I get black screen for few minutes and then it's useable. I already minimized my startup programs!
In order to run Corel Draw X6 I need a service to run in the background, called PSI-SVC-2, also known as Protexis Licencing V2.
Under Task Manager/Services it's always default set to "Stopped". No matter how many times I set it to start automatically, it always resets to Manual after a restart.
Is there another tweak I need to make to have this particular service run on reboot?

i have acer aspire v3-571g laptop with windows 8.1 x64 based OS. Processor is Intel Core i5.
To get a faster booting, i selected 2 processor instead of 1 in advanced boot option (msconfig) by mistake and now my laptop become dead slow on booting and startup.
I've got a new Windows 8.1 laptop, and I've been installing the usual suspects. Most of these work, but I have had trouble with two:

With both of these, upon running I don't even get the warning asking whether I want to allow the file to modify my computer. All that happens is that the cursor flicks to the "waiting" blue circle for a second or two, then... nothing.
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 8. It is 3 months old.
I have lost my admin rights to the computer - I cannot make changes. Therefore, I cannot do a system restore.
I tried booting up in safe mode and turning on the admin rights via command prompt and typing "net user administrator /active:yes". It tell me 'access is denied'. I think it said "error code 5".
It may or may not be coincidence but I had installed Classic Shell a week before this problem occurred.
I'm having trouble keeping my lenovo laptop (running windows 8) connected to the internet. I have been able to connect successfully to multiple wireless networks and access the internet until I tried to connect to the new network.
Initially everything is OK - I can connect to the network and access the internet. However after a short period of time (anywhere from a few seconds to 20 minutes) the network connection will change to limited, without internet access. If I simply disconnect and reconnect to the network the internet will immediately be working again (at least for a few seconds/minutes).
Alternatively, if I run the troubleshooter, I always get the message that the default gateway is not available, which has been fixed by resetting the wi-fi adapter.
I have Automatic Scheduled Maintenance set to run at 3:00AM. I get to this setting by going to Control Panel > Action Center > Maintenance > Change maintenance settings. I also have the box for "Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer" checked.
However, I note that if I put my computer to sleep for a few days, when I wake it back up, Automatic Scheduled Maintenance has NOT run. I can tell this because my antivirus definitions are out-of-date and haven't been updated since I put the computer to sleep.
how to figure why it's not waking up for Scheduled Maintenance? Is it possibly a BIOS setting? Do I have to manually add it to Task Scheduler? I'm running Windows 8.1 Update 1, ASRock Z87E-ITX mobo, Intel i7-4770S CPU, Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD, 16GB RAM.

I have installed windows like 2 days ago.
Now my questions:
1. Is it normal, when I just boot Windows, right after iccons apear, when I click to open some application, for example internet browser (using chrome) it takes long time? Like 6 seconds? But if I after windows boot wait 10 sec, then its working normally?
2. When I was playing some new games, actually BF4 and I minimized game, the Windows was responding horibly? Opening "My Computer" takes like 8 secs, opening browser takes even more..
