Right-click Menu Takes Forever To Load (tried ShellExView)
Oct 19, 2013I just updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1 (via Store), and my computer is working fine except for the right-click menu on the Desktop, that is taking forever to load.
First I thought it was some problematic shell extension (specially because Intel Graphics Control Panel was also updated, and the new version had icons along to the options). So I run ShellExView and disabled the mentioned extension, but the problem was still there after I restarted my computer.
Weird thing is that the problem only occurs when I click on a "empty" place on the Desktop, but clicking on icons on the desktop, or wherever else is OK. It's also weird that it occurs both when I'm on the Desktop or when I'm on File Explorer, accessing C:users*username*desktop (it's also weird that, when I'm using File Explorer, sometimes, some desktop icons, such as my shortcuts and folders, disappear).
I am adding some screenshots with the shell extensions found.
Hardware Drivers :: Devices And Printers Menu Takes Forever To Load
Dec 12, 2013For some reason the green bar goes all the way across the top of the screen before the devices and printers menu will load. In then loads without an issue after waiting for almost two full minutes. This is a core I7 Win 8.1 PC with 16GB of ram and an SSD so it screams otherwise.
I do have a lot of devices on my home network but my windows 7 PC which is on the same network loads the devices and printers menu almost instantly. If it were a device hanging up you would think that the Windows 7 PC would also be affected but it isn't. I will say that Windows 8.1 does identify a whole lot more devices that fall into the category of "multimedia devices" on the network than does windows 7.
Windows 8.1 Restart Function Takes Forever
Apr 5, 2014I built a very high-spec gaming PC last August and installed Windows 8. I upgraded to 8.1 later and did not experience any problems until I needed to reinstall Windows 8.1 in February in order for USB devices to function properly (restoring or refreshing Windows 8.1 wasn't an option because that function is currently broken (sort it out Microsoft!!))
Since then, a unique problem seems to have developed. My CPU is an Intel-4770k, so when I first boot up the PC from shut down, or when I press the hard restart button on my computer case, the computer boots up very quickly and with no problems. However, when I click 'Restart' from Windows, the interface shuts down, and my PC remains active, but nothing else happens for a good 2 or 3 minutes. After that time, I see two red LEDs on my motherboard flash (I guess that is the PC posting) and the computer starts up.
I am clueless as to why the Restart function has such a massive delay. I followed the steps on one thread which told me to go into msconfig and disable all start-up applications and to do the same in task manager, but after doing so and restarting my PC, the problem persisted. Windows 8 - Installing Updates Mode Takes Forever
Jan 2, 2014I have Windows 8. Received a Toshiba Satellite p875 last year for Christmas. Recently when I shut down my laptop it goes into "installing update" mode, only it does not install anything. It will stay in this mode for hours or until I physically shut it off.

I have tried to upload music to my micro SD card from my iphone, but the icon in My Computer is not showing, not in Device manager either.
Don't know if they are related but the problem started just after the above incident.

Jun 12, 2014my laptop (Asus A45V) is only 7 months old, this was originally from my father but since he isn't using it anymore he gave it to me. The problem goes like this, after he gave the laptop to me, i reformatted the laptop (reset to factory settings) then i noticed even after the reformat the laptop is slow. I tried to update every drivers and BIOS but the problem still persists. Sometimes it even hangs up and i can't do anything but to wait. And also i downloaded a game (which i truly believe the laptop can handle it since the requirements isn't that high end, the game's Heroes of Newerth) I can't even play it normally even on low settings the game runs very slow. The question is, what could be the problem? i posted my laptop's specs below:

Maintenance :: Startup Items Taking Forever To Load?
Nov 28, 2013My PC boots up in 10-15 seconds, but then it sits at my desktop with everything functional for about 10-15 minutes before my startup items (Battle.net, Spotify, DNSCrypt, etc.) actually start loading up. Even after the items have loaded up, Windows Update continues to tell me that the service is not loaded and that I should reboot. I have downloaded the .zip from the forums including all the default services reg files, ran them all to return to default, even ran Tweaking.com Windows Repair, still the same issue.

Jan 9, 2014Strange problem I am having with my windows 8.
I have an ASUS laptop running 8.0 which I am running with a second screen (dell monitor) connected via VGA. I have it set so the external monitor is the primary screen and the laptop is the secondary screen. It is set for a taskbar on each display, with the primary taskbar containing the shortcuts on the monitor, so when I click them they open there. It's been working fine for months.
So I switched it on today and my taskbar shortcuts have jumped to the taskbar on the second (laptop) screen, however my external display is still set as the primary and still has my desktop icons, trashcan etc but a blank taskbar (like the one that used to be on the secondary display)! When I click the shortcuts which are now on the taskbar of the laptop screen they open on the monitor. (ie the wrong screen) I disconnected the monitor, turned off the extended desktop and set it to just use the laptop screen. All my desktop icons moved to the laptop screen but the taskbar shortcuts vanished and I was left with a blank taskbar. If I plug the monitor in again and extend the desktop they reappear, but on the wrong screen. Even if I reboot without the external screen connected I get no shortcuts until I plug in the monitor and set it to extend the desktop. I have checked all the taskbar settings and they are all correct.

Sep 15, 2014I have had my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 install since February. Now I think it is time to deal with this once and for all.
I have an extremely powerful computer, 3930k, 64gb ram, RIVE, 840 Pro SSD so hardware is not the problem.
I recently got another Windows 8 (enterprise) laptop (not 8.1) to compare with, and it boots at exactly the same time as my desktop, but the laptop loads all startup items within 1-3 sec, but my desktop takes as said 1 minute and 20 seconds each time.
I have used this guide and many similar: Startup Delay Time - Reduce in Windows 8
I once changed the value to 10 minutes in milliseconds, and it took 10 minutes, but when I change to 0 milliseconds, or lets say 1000 ms for 1 second, it still takes 1 min and 20 seconds.
On my laptop I can change the value StartupDelayInMSec however I want and it will work, but I cannot have it low on my desktop and make it launch all startup items below 1 min and 20 sec.
File Explorer Takes Time To Load?
Aug 19, 2014I am currently running Windows 8.1 (Pro), also I am up-to-date with Windows Updates. Sometimes, when I open File Explorer (a.k.a. Windows Explorer), like "This PC". It says "This folder is empty", it then starts some-kind of searching, also icons on the left are animated like "searching". There is another one, it also takes time to sort files/folders orders, for example when I am in C:New Folder and there are 5 folders and 5 files inside, none big sized at all. When I click on "Name" it then takes time to reorder the view.
Another thing is while I experienced these issues, I found another one that is. View>Layout sometimes gets disabled and I can't change the view. View>Options button behaves the same.

It started just today a few hours ago when I logged into Facebook here in my laptop, I normally don't use it in my laptop as I just use it on my phone mainly and have a desktop at school where I submit my school files early to avoid submitting them on my laptop. But when I was forced to submit at home and use Facebook on my laptop to submit my files, Chrome then starts taking a very long time to load, about 10-15 minutes. It isn't an internet problem as were getting a pretty average 7 mbps, and strange thing is IE is working well and fine. Tried doing some research and some suggested it was a firewall issue but I doubt it, as I never tweak my antivirus settings. I tried this When Google Chrome won't start up | Computerworld Blogs but couldn't continue as I seem to be missing the debug.log mentioned and so couldn't make sure if I was having the same problem, so pretty lost at the moment.
After the 15 minute wait for chrome to open, and while I STILL have the browser open, opening new Chrome windows is then back to normal. But soon as I close my Chrome windows I then have to wait lots again. And it seems no matter how many shortcuts I try to open, I remember I clicked Chrome about 20 times it only always opens just 2 Chrome windows
Windows 8 - Slow OS After Running Incompatible Program

Windows Slow On Brand New ASUS Ultrabook
Jun 24, 2014I just got a new ASUS ultrabook (this week) that should be quite fast given the config (see config at the bottom). It is very fast indeed for internet browsing, video games etc, except all windows related tasks. Main examples:
- Opening a new folder can take 10 to 20 seconds
- Opening windows settings takes approx 15 seconds
- Opening a picture (!) takes approx 15 seconds and can make the computer freeze for a while
Something else I noticed: when I want to check windows updates, it doesn't seem to find any, but it doesn't tell me this; instead it just keeps looking for updates without ever ending.
Also as I said everything not windows related is very fast, I can open 30 tabs on chrome without any problem etc.
My suspects :
- A virus (after a week only??)
- Some of the stuff ASUS installs by default on their machines

Maintenance :: System Running Very Slow Even After Reinstalling Windows
May 14, 2014Over a month ago, I noticed that my system had started to become very slow, taking a long time to switch between apps, or between tabs in Chrome (even with only a few tabs open).
I've constantly had Resource Monitor open to try and track down the source of the problem. Initially, I thought this was a problem with Chrome or my pagefile, because Chrome was often at/near the top of Disk Activity, manipulating pagefile.sys. However, it seems like the amount of data being manipulated isn't very large; typically well below 1 MB/sec. I tried moving my pagefile to a secondary hard drive to no effect.
I've downloaded and run multiple programs to check hard drive health, and none of them have found any problems. I'm not talking about simple S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics, but in-depth scans.
Thinking that it might be a problem with Windows 7 at the time, I wiped the drive and installed Windows 8.1. I installed the latest motherboard drivers and disabled Windows search and file indexing. The problem remains. The fact that the problem persists after wiping the drive had me thinking it's likely a hardware problem. Alas, various hard drive scanners haven't found a problem.
I have 8GB of memory; rarely is more than 4GB ever in use. Both of my hard drives have plenty of free space (400+ GB each).
Some Programs Slow To Load - Not Recognise Association To File Extension
Apr 28, 2013Some programs are becoming slow to load or do not recognize their connection to a file extension. Most noticeable are Nitro PDF Professional which doesn't always start when I click on a PDF file, sometimes it does, some times it doesn't. Quicken is often slow to start, some times the window opens then it waits for the display, sometimes the there is a wait until the window even opens. Same for xplorer2 opening and even selecting another folder. Going back to Windows 7 with almost the identical installed programs/utilities (about 40) the "problem" goes away.

Mar 9, 2014While using the computer, periodically when I go to the start screen and search for something, it just hangs for about 20-60 seconds before responding. Now today, every single time I start the computer, it loads fine gets me to the start screen, but if I type anything for the search then it freezes on me for 20-60seconds. If I start it and immediately go to the desktop, I can run SOME programs like IE or Chrome but NOT Ventrilo or games (for 20-60 seconds). Also, TASK manager will not come up nor do any of the windows 8 "charms" work for that time frame.
I am at a loss, this is a fresh OS install about a month ago on a brand new Samsung 840 SSD. All my drivers are up to date, I didn't have this issue a week ago but I did have a system restore point that I restored my computer to and that didn't fix it.
I also tried the Windows Startup Repair, and it tells me it could not repair it and to check my log at "F:/Window...." whereas I have NO F:/ drive and Windows is obviously installed on my C:/ drive (also, it will not allow me to "refresh" my computer. *I have legit Windows 8 Keys that I purchased
I have tried disabling the fast boot in power options.
I have ran a registry cleaner (ccleaner, I hate running cleaners but it was a desperate measure).
I tried creating a new user account.

Windows 8 - Laptop Takes 30 Minutes To Boot
Aug 20, 2013I have an old laptop from 2007. I bought windows 8 license (was using W7) and it was working great for the few months. After that it stopped. Now if I want to boot it, or restart it or shut it down it takes at least 30 minutes which huge sound coming from it.
I got a new laptop today, but I still want to use my old one. As I think a laptop is a girl, it has to be perfect
It takes 1 minute to enter the windows 8. And 29 minutes to enter the metro layout (it keeps loading).
What do I have to do.

Oct 9, 2013I have an ASUS s550C running windows 8 and my HDMI to my 32" RCA flatscreen doesn't work anymore. The cable works fine with the xbox, correct tv modes, but now as soon as I plug in the HDMI to the Ultrabook the Ultrabooks screen goes black and the tv screen says unsupported. I have tried extended, 2nd screen only, and all screen settings, 720/1080I etc.

Sep 15, 2014So last Sunday I woke up grabbed my computer which I had simply closed the night before, nothing unusual and the screen was all black so I just figured it was a random problem and manually shut down. When I powered back on initially I got zero response, just a black screen, no HD activity no fan spinning eventually (anywhere from 5-15 minutes) in a sort of delayed boot action it began booting but it took forever to boot into Windows 8.1 which I upgraded to months ago.
So my question is two-fold, I don't think the BSOD issue is related to the incredibly slow/delayed start up, because this happens before the OS even begins loading if I'm not mistaken.
The first part of my issue are the random BSODs which also started happening for a while I was getting a warning about Intel Rapid Storage that I never bothered to read, and eventually it just went away after I did updates.
But this computer has just randomly shut off while I was using it, not crashed, just lost power.

Jan 28, 2014I have windows 8.1 it was working fine for a good while but now web pages can be slow loading or dont load at all, if i hit F5 some pages will then load.
I have googled this problem & tried many different possible solutions but none have worked, this problem happens at home on my broadband & at work so i dont think its anything to do with the router.
I have ran malwarebytes & avast many times, the 1st run of malwarebytes it found 2 objects but since they have been removed everything has been clear.

May 31, 2014I got a new laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 15r SE (i15Rse-4267ALU). Basically, whenever I unplug my laptop it turns extremely slow. Not slow as in some programs take a while to load, I mean like I can barely move the mouse across the screen slow. My computer's specs are:
