I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop model C55D-A5107. I got this laptop this year and it continually crashing.
These are the errors that I have gotten so far since I decided to write them down. There probably are others that I did not write down or missed due to laptop restarting. Errors listed below.

know if there's a way to reverse the "polarity" of the FN key on Toshiba Satellite C55D-A? All I can find is sticky key or notification settings. I'm looking to have F1 - F12 work like on desktop keyboards and hold down the FN key to adjust brightness, volume etc..

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Before installing everything I wanted to partition the hard drive, for various reasons. To do so, I installed EASUS Pro. (Have used that many, many times on my W7 PC without a problem.) Anyway, it went away to resize the boot partition and now I can't do a !@#%$ing thing. The laptop boots to a 0xc0000225 error screen, and that's it. I entered the UEFI Firmware Settings, and managed to firstly change the fn keys to standard (YAY!) but I CANNOT use the F10 key to save the boot priority to CD/DVD or anything else, so I have nowhere to go from there.

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite C855D (Windows 8 originally) that would not boot. I tried the repair, restore, and recovery but that did not work. So I used a recovery disc from a Toshiba C55D (Windows 8.1) and got it working. The problem I have is the c855d now shows as the c55d. My question is does the product key come from the motherboard or the software.

I have a Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332, with a AMD A6-4400M APU processor with integrated graphics. My display adapter, according to device manager, is a AMD Radeon HD 7520G.
Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. I haven't made any recent changes, and I noticed this about a week or so ago(I don't typically change my laptop brightness, so this could have been happening for longer). In the mean time, I've tried rolling back my display drivers, with no success, and also updating to the latest driver set, which has also not worked?

I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook less than six months old and running with Windows 8 and latest updates to date. My Toshiba Satellite will not auto. standy/hibernate, it will only do it by me executing it manually.
-All device drivers are up-to-date, according to Toshiba download site, including graphics driver.
-All USB devices have been un-plugged.
-I have done a re-boot of the notebook, several times, and it made no difference.
-I have turned on and off the screen saver settings.
-I have changed and changed back the power scheme settings.
-I ran the powercfg -requests tool, and it reported no problem.
I noticed when I ran the Toshiba hardware troubleshooter, it said to turn off the screen saver, but it was already turned off. I noticed in searching the net that other Toshiba users say they have noticed this too.
I also noticed that when I choose my photos as a screen-saver they take a long time to run, or sometimes not at all.

I upgraded Toshiba Satellite A100-998 with XP Media Centre to Windows 8 Pro. Before upgrade the screen resolution was 1280x800 on a NVIDIA GeForce Go7300 graphics adapter.
Windows 8 pro upgrade has installed only the Standard Microsoft Graphics Adapter of 1028x600. I have searched registry for Display1_DownScalingSupported key but it does not exist.
I have attempted to find another driver on the NVIDIA and Toshiba web support but I am unsure what would be the right one. The laptop clearly can support the higher resolution, how to resolve the issue.

I have a Toshiba Satellite hybrid, with Windows 8, 4GB RAM and 128 SSD hard drive. I have full Microsoft office and very few other programs, there are the Toshiba installed software which I don't use and the windows 8 based 'apps' which I also hardly use.
My 128GB was about 70% full from week one, but now it is almost 100% full, I regularly carry out disk clean up, but I unable to get more than 1GB free on my hard drive, can this be right? How can I resolve this?

I was using my laptop and this came up on my screen [URL] .... After my laptop restarted, I used it for about 5 minutes before it froze. When i next used my laptop, It stayed on the Toshiba screen (the first screen when the laptop is turned on). After about 3 or 4 minutes, the laptop opens the automatic repair feature and this comes up on the screen [URL] ..... I have tried tapping both F8 and F12 throughout start up to try and repair the computer although this doesnt work either. I have opened the boot menu and tried to select the HDD Recovery option although it says no bootable media, please restart system.

My new Toshiba laptop runs Windows 8, boots in UEFI mode and GPT formatted, can I create a logical partition solely for storage so that when I format/recover windows partition like windows system image restore, the files and folders stored in the partition is not affected?Just like I did in my old windows 7 laptop that boots in BIOS mode and MBR formatted, which I put the partition as D: drive? Are there any possibilities I do that without messing up the system?

I brought my Toshiba laptop over to a friends house last night. We did some gaming, and everything was fine and acting normal. This morning, I packed up and when I got home, started up my laptop. A black screen with a window popped up with boot menu and app menu on it. Under the Boot Menu, there is Windows Boot Manager, and SATA:: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-B08AB. Under App Menu, There is Setup. The only thing I can enter is Setup, and there is a lot of things I don't understand.

I received a Toshiba Satellite Laptop (S855-S5377) for Christmas and it is running Windows 8. I started using it and it worked fine, but I started using Internet Explorer and the mouse froze, but I could still use my keyboard to get back to the start-page and move around with the up/down/left/right keys. My mouse was no where to be found on the start-page. I used the ctrl-alt-delete to log out, and then when the log-in screen came up my mouse reappeared and seemed to be working again.
I logged back in and my mouse worked for a few seconds, then disappeared. I did the same things over and over again a few times, and either the mouse was nowhere to be found from the get-go, or it worked for a bit then disappeared once I started doing things. I shut down, and restarted multiple times. If it is a Windows 8 problem I am very disappointing at the moment with the software.

I downloaded MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD but it wants a product key when I boot from it.
I thought it was supposed to take the product key that is embedded in the BIOS? UEFI is on on BIOS. Am I using the wrong version of Windows 8 DVD?

My Toshiba laptop does not let any of the function keys operate properly. When I press one, nothing happens. I have also tried holding down the FN key, to no avail. I thought this was a Toshiba issue, but after multiple customer support "experiences" who told me that the operating system was corrupted, I think it may be a Windows 8.1 issue. This happened under Windows 8 too. Toshiba has a keyboard driver for this laptop model for Windows 7, but not 8.1. Is this a common problem with Windows 8.1 (All drivers are up to date and function key support is enabled in the BIOS)
Laptop: Toshiba c55-a5285.

I can not boot my Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 computer after I was attempting to resize partitions. I got in over my head. Now I'm stuck and cannot boot.
I believe the problem is I somehow created a second copy of my EFI partition. Now I have two "system" partitions of the same size.
Cannot boot, but got a command prompt. Ran "bcdedit" and got:
"The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria."
Other things I uncovered:
Diskpart> list partition
Partition 1 System
Partition 2 System
Partition 3 Reserved
Partition 4 Primary
Partition 5 Recovery
Partition 6 Recovery
(note both partitons 1 & 2 say "System" for type.)
Diskpart> Select Partition 1detail partition * Volume 2 System NTFS Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
Diskpart> Select Partition 2detail partition * Volume 3 FAT32 Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
I conclude that Partition 1 equates to Volume 2, Partition 2 to Volume 3. However there is no longer a "System" label on Part 2/Vol 3 once drilled down to details. Also its FAT32.
I am hoping/praying that I could "delete" one of the duplicate partitions. But scared to make any such move. Not sure where to go from here.

My wife has a Toshiba Laptop with windows 8, upgraded to 8.1. About a month ago I set up Skype on her computer and all was working fine. Then 2 days ago she tells me it is not working. If you click on the tile, it tries to open, but after 3 second or so it goes back to the desktop. If I move the mouse in to the upper left corner, I can see the opening screen it gives you and I can click on it and it will come up again but only for a second or so and then goes back to the desktop. It never starts Skype. She has the same problem with Microsoft Solitaire Collection. I looked in Programs and Features to do a repair, but they are not listed.
Since there is no listing in Programs and Features, I don't even have the option to uninstall and then reinstall it.

Motherboard: Intel Corporation, CAPELL VALLEY(NAPA) CRB
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Disabled
My Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 won't run unless it's in Safe Mode. I don't know exactly how or when it started, but it completely freezes shortly after boot. Exactly when it freezes varies, but it's usually within the first 5 minutes. And by freezing, I mean it's 100% nonfunctional. The only way to shut down is by removing the battery, so now I just keep it out.
At this point I won't list all the things I've tried, or tell you all about my computer and OS. The crashing happens in a variety of ways, but the end result is always the same. I will hear a click sound through the speakers and simultaneously see a flicker on the display. At that point I will instantly know I'm screwed. Then within 1 to 5 seconds the HDD light on the computer will stop blinking and stay on solid, and my only choice is to unplug the power. It usually happens in one of the following ways, listed in order of likelihood, with the most likely first:
1) I get the BSOD with the error, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.
2) My display freaks out, and turns into a jumbled up screen of glorious animated visual static. (I have a picture on my phone, if it comes to that.)
3) I get the BSOD with the error, REFERENCE_BY_POINTER.
4) No apparent crash, but one keystroke or mouse click will take 20 to 30 minutes to be carried out. During this time, Task Manager says HDD is working at 99 or 100%, even though the computer is idle. Sometimes I'm able to move the mouse pointer, other times I'm not.
5) I get the BSOD, with an error that I can't really make out. If I was forced to guess, I'd say it looked something like "x0x000000x".
6) I get a blue screen with a message telling me the computer was improperly shut down, and needs to restart after it collects data. Along with this is a progress report that never moves from 0%.
The last thing I tried was to reinstall Windows, keeping nothing. Now it seems my only available choice is to go through the hundreds of processes and services individually, turning them on and off, one at a time until I find the culprit, the way I had to individually download all of the 107 updates required in order for me to attempt upgrading to Windows 8.1 (unsuccessfully). The stuff I found in the Event Viewer didn't really seem to work, but I'll probably go back to it and research events more thoroughly before I start disabling things. I hope to avoid this.
I don't know if this is a clue or not, but in Device Manager my Generic PnP Monitor has an exclamation point by it, but Windows says the driver is up to date, and I can't figure out why why I'm getting the alarm.

My dell inspiron n5010 running on Windows 8, today all of a sudden started showing some grains on the display.Soon after it happened, it showed me a message which says
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restarts. were just collecting some error info, and then well restart for you (100% complete)".
The system restarted by itself and it started running system repair. The system repair screen is also grainy. After the repairing is done, it restarted showing Windows 8 logo(that too with grainy display). But nothing really happens after that and it its stuck. So I decided to switch it off and turn it back ON after sometimes. I did that and the PC booted with no issues with the display perfectly fine. But the same issue is repeating again and again and I will have to shut down the system for some time and then again turn it back ON to make it run normal.
