View 9 RepliesI have seen some posts on internet, concerning connecting an external CRT Monitor with a Laptop computer. They pretty much said that there might be a blue cable with, and one can use it to connect that monitor with laptop. Now I am confused that mine monitor has two cables; one of which is blue and the other one is white, having three larger pins inside. Both these wires are connected to my desktop CPU. Now my question is that, it is obvious that the blue wire can be connected to my laptop but what about the other one, this wire is connected to the power supply of my desktop pc, and when it comes to laptop, would mere one wire (blue) suffice for the electricity or other things?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded Toshiba Satellite A100-998 with XP Media Centre to Windows 8 Pro. Before upgrade the screen resolution was 1280x800 on a NVIDIA GeForce Go7300 graphics adapter.
Windows 8 pro upgrade has installed only the Standard Microsoft Graphics Adapter of 1028x600. I have searched registry for Display1_DownScalingSupported key but it does not exist.
I have attempted to find another driver on the NVIDIA and Toshiba web support but I am unsure what would be the right one. The laptop clearly can support the higher resolution, how to resolve the issue.
I have a samsung laptop and 4 days ago the internet access stopped working. I normally use it via wireless and I have tried it hardwired - no luck. I have restored the internet settings. The response I get when trying to connect to google is 'waiting for google.com' and it just hangs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 8930G with Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 7 x86 as a dual-boot. I use 8.1 as my everyday OS and only boot into 7 to play older games that only work with a 32-bit OS.
Ever since I installed Windows 8, I have not been able to adjust the brightness of my screen. Note that this problem started since I installed 8, not 8.1, and before I put on the copy of 7 as a dual-boot. When I use Fn+left/right (the brightness keys on my PC), the brightness slider appears on-screen and goes up and down, but the brightness of the panel doesn't actually change. Using the Charm doesn't work either, nor does adjusting it through the Control Panel.
I have tried fiddling with my Power Options in the Control Panel and disabling adaptive brightness. I have tried several different driver versions for my GPU, a GeForce 9600M GT. None of this has worked.
In Windows 7, however, the brightness controls work fine. If I want to adjust my brightness for 8.1, I have to boot into 7, change the brightness there, and then boot back into 8.1, where it will keep whatever brightness setting I was using in 7.
Is there some messed-up thing in the Registry? Is my GPU's firmware maybe just not compatible with Windows 8? I took a look at TechPowerUp's repository of GPU BIOSes, but it appears I already have the most recent one.
I bought a new laptop without OS, it's a XMG advanced with i7 4700MQ CPU, an Intel HD grafics 4600 chip and an NVIDIA geforce 765M GTX.
I installed win 8.1 and updated all drivers. The laptop itself works fine. Now I wanted to connect an external Monitor ( HP w2207h) The laptop recognizes that there is an external Monitor and that it is an HP w2207h and tries to extend the desktop to it, but the monitor itself says that there is no input signal via the HDMI input and it goes to sleepmode.
When I connect my old Laptop to it, it is no Problem, the monitor shows the extendes Desktop, so the monitor an all cables are OK. (old Laptop : Win7 core 2 duo CPU geforce 9600M GT )
With the new Laptop I have the same problem, when I try to connect it to my LG TV set via HDMI, the Laptop recognizes the TV and tries to extend the desktop ( I can move the mouse out of the internal display to the TV ) but the TV says there is no input signal.
I have set the Output to 60 Hz and different resolutions and tried to duplicate the display or only use the external one. Nothing worked.
I can't force the Laptop to use the Gforce, he decides which one he wants to use.
A friend bought the same laptop and made the same installation, but when he connects to his external moniotr everything is fine, but I don't know what kind of monitor he has and I have not connected my laptop to his monitor.
I just purchased a acer V7-482PG-6662 ( Acer | Aspire V7 | V7-482PG-6662 | Overview ) and it comes with a 1080p display but the issue is that it wont go above 1366 x 768. This is right out of the box, i cant change to a higher resolution and all the drivers have been updated.
The Nvidia card works fine as it kicks in during gaming but even in games I cannot select a higher resoloution than 1366 x 768.
I even did a fresh install of windows 8 and windows 7 same issue. Device manager indicates "generic pnp display" under the monitor heading.
Others who have bought the laptop have not experienced this issue and their display is at 1080p.
EDIT: Tried a linux live usb and same issue, the resolution is only 1366 x 768, is this a hardware defect?
Recently I turned on my computer (Acer Aspire V5 122-P) and went to change the brightness. And using the FN keys and changing the brightness returns the same value rather than changing it. The other FN keys such as Volume +/- and turning adapters on and off still work. It is just the brightness keys. I would like a fix as I need long battery life and this is causing excessive battery drain. (I have tried turning it off and on again to no avail)...

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Acer Aspire E1-571) refuses to install the Intel VGA driver. I've tried via the Acer Live Updater and manually through the Acer and Intel website. I am assuming this is the cause of the fake dead pixels on my screen, the terrible quality of videos and the reason the screen freezes when playing any video game.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy new Acer laptop has very disappointing screen and video quality. The screen resolution is maxed-out at 1366 x 768 with Intel HD Graphics 4000. Those specs should be just fine for great visuals. My old desktop didn't come close to that but I could watch Youtube videos very well with no pixeling of image. Acer tech support said "new graphics driver download" and I did that , to no avail. Setting adjustments etc.? My wife's 3 year old Acer has better screen quality than my new one.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Before installing everything I wanted to partition the hard drive, for various reasons. To do so, I installed EASUS Pro. (Have used that many, many times on my W7 PC without a problem.) Anyway, it went away to resize the boot partition and now I can't do a !@#%$ing thing. The laptop boots to a 0xc0000225 error screen, and that's it. I entered the UEFI Firmware Settings, and managed to firstly change the fn keys to standard (YAY!) but I CANNOT use the F10 key to save the boot priority to CD/DVD or anything else, so I have nowhere to go from there.

These are the errors that I have gotten so far since I decided to write them down. There probably are others that I did not write down or missed due to laptop restarting. Errors listed below.
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA (HTTP.SYS)
My computer is hp envy dv6 7280sf notebook with 2 GPUs intel graphics HD 4000 and Nvidia Gefoce 630 M running windows 8 64x.
After making an free upgrade online for windows 8.1 which run successfully, both gpus were ok...
But after receiving a windows update with new drivers for intel graphics 4000 gpu , after install and restart , the computer freezes on blank black screen at windows startup with no mouse or anything only backlight.
So safemode was succeful but i figured that the update for windos update was the cause and graphics drivers were installed so i removed the drivers for intel graphics and itried to reboot the computer so the restart was succeful but the intel graphics card was unistalled and no drivers were automatically installed so i tried to download and install the drivers from hp and intel website for windows 8.1 however the install fails.
Automatic install from device manager failed both online and from computer and even from manual driver selection.
So therefore the install failed in safe mode , and the high def audio device ( on screen audio possibly) failed and the device was not recongnized (no drivers installed) so i'm stuck without anydrivers for the integrated gpu and the games are no longer able to run normally even if the nvidia card is on.
I tried downloading an installing Windows 8 drives but it failed to install also , for instance any new install of drovers seems to fail for me even for external usb hard drive.
I'm building a system for cryptocoin mining, and am having a little problem with getting Windows 8.1 (home, not pro) to run the 3rd card (GPU) My equipment is:
Gigabyte 990 FXA UD3 MOBO
AMD Vishera CPU
2x4 gig Corsair Ram
3x Sapphire r9 280x Video cards
1000w Corsair PSU
Scandisk SSD
All parts are brand new.
Here is the problem... everything boots just fine and runs with 2 of the GPU's installed. I have the latest AMD 13.12 drivers, and the AMD APP SKD installed. When I add the 3rd GPU though, windows will auto detect it as a Radeon 7900 with the caution sign, AND/OR a r9 200 series card, also with the caution sign, most times BOTH. Then it randomly freezes the system. A couple of times I got it to run long enough just by luck I guess, to install the 13.12 drivers on the 3rd GPU, but then in a few minuites the system would freeze again.
2 GPU's run just fine, the problem only shows up when the 3rd card is installed, and it happens on any of the 4 16x slots, or both 1x slots on the MOBO. It doesn't matter if the GPU's are directly on the MOBO, or on 1x16 risers. There are plenty of folks running this set up with up to 6 GPU's, so I know it can be done, but I must be missing something somewhere in the windows set up.
I've got a bit of a strange issue that I haven't had with previous OSes on this PC. I'm running a Dell OptiPlex 380 with Win 8 x64 at the office and I have to run 2 video cards for all of my screens. I have a GeForce 8400GS in the PCI-E slot and a GeForce 6200 in the PCI slot.
Previous to the Win 8 install, it worked fine. Booted exactly as I had shut it off. Now, with 8 - it's killing my PCI-E card presumably when it puts the screens to sleep when I leave for the day. So I'm coming in to all of my windows being moved to the PCI card's monitor (only one hooked to it) and I have to reboot to get PCI-E card to come back.
If I check the screen properties, I see only the screen hooked to the PCI card. I've changed the setting in the BIOS for the first video card to Auto and also tried the PCI-E selection and it's the same either way.
Why on earth would it default to the PCI card rather than the PCI-E card?
i am on windows 8.i am using HP laptop.this is my ccc version.
i got 2 problems:well first one is that i can't update to windows 8.1 as the update always hang on 82% and after that my laptop
automatically shutsdown i don't know whats the reason is and that's why i am stuck at windows 8 till now although have 8.1 ISO but i don't want to install it as i have to erase my my windows 8 which came pres-installed so i will loose my genuine windows 8 .now i want to know what if i open the 8.1 installer and install it from a virtual tool like Deamon although it gives an option to keep files app setting safe but i fear that it would conflict with 8 and i would have to format my laptop then ok now to the major problem i just recently purchased Watch Dogs and installed it.I played the first mission and got busted so the mission failed and it began to reload and then a error pops up saying watch dogs have stopped working upon googling i found out that this is due to DUAl AMD Graphics so they stated that i should disable it but i cant find any option of disabling DUAL Graphics.
I have bought a laptop while ago from Samsung that came with windows 8.
Due to software problems i decided to reinstall the windows.
When accessing the hard disk in windows installation i deleted all Partitions on HD. Inclusive those from factory.
When i try to install windows now , he''s asking for drivers and he will not continue without. I tried to download the sata hd drivers, wich he finds, but it still keeps screaming for drivers. Did i delete the wrong map? is it possible to recover this?
Laptop model from Samsung : NP900X4D-A02be
I have a client's laptop which is a Samsung Model NP350V5C-A01us and I am trying to recovery the OS or more than likely do a clean install.
Customer reloaded BIOS to factory default prior to bringing it to me. Client even tried the recovery disk that came with the laptop.
This is what both the client and I are getting: see attached image.
All the options that show in the image when pressed leads back to the same Recovery screen.
I cannot get the DVD to boot from but the Disk is running. So not sure if the laser is of the DVD is not working.
last night i did a factory reset and of course it took all night but in the morning when i checked it it was off so when i pressed the power button it appeared to be starting up a usual then suddenly the screen lust like faded to black but it was still on and this lust repeats itself the samsung logo comes up it appears to be loading then it all just goes black.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a Samsung NP550P5C laptop with the following specs :
-i5-3210M
-6 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz
-1 TB HDD @ 5400 rpm
-2 GB nVidia GT650M with Optimus
-Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit
It came with Recovery partitions. Now using the Samsung Recovery application I had copied my recovery files to another external HDD alongwith a backup of C drive. Now all these are in some weird extensions. I refreshed my PC and then the problems began. The problems were :
-No Fn key working
-Samsung recovery did not recognize factory condition recovery point,i.e,Factory reset option was gone.
-The backup on external HDD was showing up on Samsung Recovery, but after clicking on it, it would go on a restart and recovery never happens.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was on my samsung laptop last night, and I found a folder called "Searches>Indexed locations". I saw it was taking up some space so i went through some of the files seeing that some were Type:Shortcuts. So I deleted them to free up a bit of space thinking "it's only a shortcut, can't harm it". Now some icons are missing from my windows 8 start screen and some programs have become inoperable because of missing files. I tried System restore to bring some of it back, it was going ok, then when it tried to restart, showed the samsung logo, then just blackscreened for 4+ hours. It was on , but blank. Haven't been using the laptop long so I don't really know the specs on it.
It came with no DvD/CD for me to use to format the laptop and I cant get it on to boot it up right for me to format it to begin with.
I atleast do know the graphics card was an AMD Radeon HD 7460
Can't seem to access Bios either.
One thing I forgot to mention which might have something to do with it, is I was using a custom windows 8 theme, because microsoft, being as stingy as they are, from what i assume does not enable you to have your own theme, so I had something called the "ribbon disabler and UXTheme Cracker" to use a custom windows 8 theme.
I am using windows 8 on my laptop (samsung np550p5c-s03). The task manager shows memory usage around 70% (5.6 GB of 7.9 GB) even when I have no apps running.

Its a windows 8 partition and everything seems to be there but the laptop wont boot from it at all, it just goes into bios. I did get it to try and read from the recovery partition but get a "MBR error 1" when it tries to boot from it. I used aronis disk director 11 to do the cloning if that works. Also the original HDD was a GPT partition and thats wat i have formatted the drive as. Ive done some reading and acronis can be difficult when cloning recovery partitions and it will give u this MBR error.
