I am using windows 8 on a Asus touch screen.
When i hover my cursor over the top left corner, nothing happens. When I click windows + period, i get a split screen with my open windows displayed vertically on the right hand side and a blank screen covering the middle and left. But nothing will move to the blank screen. I can't for the life of me figure out how to use this split screen which is the main way I work.
My screen resolution is above 1366.
How can I have more than one web site (split screen) on my screen using ie10 from the metro screen.
I can do it from the desktop but I have not found a way to do it by launching ie10 from the windows 8 metro screen.
The screen is split into 8 views immediately from when laptop starts. (2 across and 4 down) Odd thing though is that an external monitor connected only shows the one view.Also the screen will go blank (purple background) every two minutes or so for a few seconds before the screen comes back. The cursor changes to a circle as if something is about to happen just before blank (purple) screen. Could this simply be a graphics driver issue?

However, no third-party apps seem to be compatible with this feature. Only Microsoft apps will expand to any ratios other than 80% or 20%. All third party apps will remain in the narrow 20% view even when you try to expand them to, say, take up 50% of the screen.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using win 8.1 with a 2560 x1440 resolution, but I can't seem to get split screen to work. I've tried a few tutorials online, but without success.
I can easily split the screen by left mouse clicking the top of the screen and dragging down. The first window works normally with task bar showing on the bottom, but I can't figure out how to get anything else in the 2nd window that is created. One online tutorial mentioned something about executing a mouse-over on the left or upper left corner, but that doesn't bring anything up. I can get the search/share/start/devices/settings task bar to appear by mouse-overing the upper right hand corner, but this doesn't lead to filling the second window.

I've got two SATA HDD, sadly I have not SDD , the first one contains two partitions: the first one with the OS and the second one with all the programs/games/utils I've installed in time. The second hard disk contains only datas like movies, pictures, music etc etc.
Just to be more clear, at the moment with Seven I've got C: with the operative system and D: with all software I installed in time with the two folder "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86).
As a fresh Windows 8 installation, need to maintain the double partition of the primary hdd or is it completely useless?
Just today, my desktop's been unable to boot into the login screen on Windows 8.1 due to a blue screen that appears for a split second, and forced the PC to restart. Some of this, I think, should be surely linked to the GPU, as it's left me with a black screen and loud fan noise about three of four times today. Each time I've restarted the PC, it's been able to to get back into Windows, though this time it's just giving me a BSOD that I can barely see at all.
What I'm wanting to know is how can I get it to show me the information for me to diagnose it. Could I use a shortcut on the keyboard, or will the information be saved somewhere?
The GPU I have is the XFX 7950 Core Edition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am situated where I have to see my computer screen whether I am working on my computer or not, and so because the light hurts my eyes it needs to turn off the screen when I am not using it.
I used to be able to get the screen to turn off after a couple of minutes, and it would go black. But now for some reason I cannot get it to work.
These are my settings:
Control Panel/Power Options
Power Saver button is ticked.
Set on:
Turn off the display 1 minute
Put the computer to sleep 1 minute
Right click computer screen/Personalize Clicked on Screen Saver and chose BLANK and Wait 1 minute On resume display log on screen is not ticked.
I am on my work computer, a DELL desktop with Windows 8.1, and I've been using a dual monitor setup for months, both with Windows 8 and 8.1. One monitor is connected via the VGA input, and the other is through a VGA to HDMI adapter. Again, they've been working flawlessly for months. It was a plug 'n play setup that took a minute and never had an issue.
I came in today and the second screen was blank. In the screen setup menu it recognized it and allowed me to adjust between extending, mirroring, etc. But after I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it no longer recognizes it. It simply cannot find a second monitor plugged in. Both screens work when plugged directly into the VGA port separately but not when plugged in the way they've worked for months.
i have recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8, the start screen apps/buttons are not working, they have never worked, when i click on one it just pops up for 1 second and comes back out, it refuses to load them, i have looked online and tried editing my resolution or whatever people have said to do, but none of it seems to work, what do i do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the new Windows 8.1 Service Package 1 update earlier today. I was loving it. They finally got to addressing how bad Windows 8 was for laptops. However, the new context menu in the Start Screen simply does not appear anymore. It was earlier, and I have made no significant changes to the system in that time. When I right-click on a tile now, the only thing that happens is that it gets highlighted. No context menu to speak of. In addition, I can't get a context menu for the "Apps" section either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a copy of Windows 8 Professional. The "Live Tiles" on my new Start screen aren't working. I can click on the Store icon and it comes up, then immediately closes. I've turned off live updating and turned on app locations and all that. It still won't come on.
I've tried it with all my new apps, and none of them work, except for the Maps app.
I have my lock screen set up to display a slideshow instead of turning off the monitor. Intermittently, upon returning to my computer and clicking the mouse I receive an error that states the lock screen content server has stopped working and needs to close. Upon acknowledging the error by clicking ok or whatever the button says the error goes away and all appears to be well. This issue doesn't appear to actually effect the slideshow. For me this is mostly just an annoyance but it is something I would like to solve. Upon reviewing my event log I can identify two potentially related errors. One is with LockScreenContentServer.exe and the other is with LogonUI.exe. Both appear to have a common denominator with nvwgf2umx.dll. I have a GTX 670 installed, running the Nvidia 340.52 drivers, which are the current WHQL drivers. I have windows 8.1 64 installed as well as all current windows updates. I also have Classic Shell installed. Currently my lock screen is set to not require a password to log back in. This error has occurred with a password required as well. I also only have a local account established instead of linking to a Microsoft account.

I Google a subject and get a list of sites, select one and read. To return to the list I click the back-button, the screen goes blank and I have to press the 'windows' key and select Google again which brings the list back on screen. Frustrating waste of time. How can I activate the back-button?

I got a notification about there not being enough power reaching the USB port, and it stopped working after that. I'm not connected to the internet, so it's not a bad update, but I don't know what the problem is, or how to fix it. When I go to PC Info, it says "No pen or touch input is available for this display" which I know is not true because I've been using it's touch screen the entire time I've had it.
a common problem is that the drivers aren't updated. I don't think this is my problem as I haven't installed any updates today (I haven't been connected to the internet) and it's been working fine prior to just now.
The battery is fully charged (and was at 50% when I got the notification), so the power shouldn't be an issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedTwo programs are creating audio outputs such as a game program and iTunes, I desire to send the game program to my headset while remain the iTunes audio to my default playback device, speakers.
I am wondering if there is audio management software. Similar to how if I am on Skype I can communicate through headset and hear them on the headset while the audio on iTunes by default is outputted through the speakers.
I want to play Nether and hear everything through the headset and keep music playing on the speakers so my girlfriend does not hear me play games.
About three days ago, all new style apps stopped working. I click on the tile, get a deep blue screen, and nothing else. On the left side of the screen, I can see the app as if it is working (just the name of the app, not content), so I can close the window and get back to desktop. The same applies to the STORE app. The only tiles that work, are the links to desktop applications, which open correctly on the desktop. The fault also affects all windows system apps. For example if I search on the start screen for "windows update", I can access "Windows update" as it just opens a window on the desktop, but if I click on "Windows update settings" nothing happens. The same is true with all windows system apps that open in the new start screen system.
I've uninstalled two Microsoft updates that were installed over the past three days, no change. I uninstalled AVAST, no change, so I reinstalled it! I tried restoring the system, but found that I had only one restore, and that was corrupted. Very strange. Without access to many windows system apps, the computer is really limited. The desktop seems to be working OK. I can't refresh the PC, as firstly it is a system app that runs from the start screen, and secondly because I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 online, this can't be done anyway, as I don't have a disc. I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling windows 8!
(Pavilion dv6, i7 processor, 6GB ram, originally win7, then I upgraded to win 8 and now 8.1. I've been running 8.1 for some months without problems, just occasionally on start-up from sleep, I get "error in non-cached memory" BSOD, and the system restarts.)
ALT-TAB is not working when I am playing online games (Crossfire -develop by SmileGate/Neowiz) and Steam-DOTA2. I just experience it when I upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Is there a workaround on this? I don't want to go back to Windows 7 or 8
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
I have recently installed windows updates and after restart the black screen occurred after I typed my password. About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC was working fine before today, until I used Ultra UXtheme patcher for Windows 8 x64 and then applied a custom VS for Windows 8.
After a restart, Windows Explorer was not launching, so I opened task manager and did a sfc /scannow. After a reboot, I get to the Windows 8 boot menu (I have a dual-boot on this HDD with win7), and then the screen just turns on and off every few seconds, with the numlock light flickering with the screen.
I tried using the automatic repair, both from the boot menu and from a backup USB, but it does not detect anything. and I still have the same issue.
I restored the backups of uxtheme.dll, uxinit.dll, and themeui.dll, but that didn't work either.
Attached is my ntbtlog.txt.
There is no BSOD, the HDD keeps on spinning a few minutes after boot, and the numlock keeps on flashing. Anything else I can do from my win7 install? I'm currently trying to delete the theme.
Deleting the theme doesn't work, safemode doesn't work either. It seems to be a driver issue, but there were no driver updates when it was working?
I've having an issue that I think some ppl had, windows 8 crashing going to blue screen of death or blank black screen and then it restarts by itself, also I have noticed that it says repairing disk in D:/
I have one SSD 120gb in the C:/ which it host the operating system and some minnor programs, in a HDD which is my D:/ drive there I have my games.
