The screen is split into 8 views immediately from when laptop starts. (2 across and 4 down) Odd thing though is that an external monitor connected only shows the one view.Also the screen will go blank (purple background) every two minutes or so for a few seconds before the screen comes back. The cursor changes to a circle as if something is about to happen just before blank (purple) screen. Could this simply be a graphics driver issue?
View 1 RepliesI have just bought a new laptop with windows 8 and actually quite like the tile setup!Some programs I need to use are on the desktop and I regularly need to switch between desktop and start screen views. All I want to do is have an on screen 'windows button' that will take me from the desktop back to the start screen with a click of the mouse, as opposed to having to physically push the keyboard button.
I know this is ultimately lazy, but surely it should be simple and sometimes a mouse click is just so much easier than pushing the button!
How can I have more than one web site (split screen) on my screen using ie10 from the metro screen.
I can do it from the desktop but I have not found a way to do it by launching ie10 from the windows 8 metro screen.
I am using windows 8 on a Asus touch screen.
When i hover my cursor over the top left corner, nothing happens. When I click windows + period, i get a split screen with my open windows displayed vertically on the right hand side and a blank screen covering the middle and left. But nothing will move to the blank screen. I can't for the life of me figure out how to use this split screen which is the main way I work.
My screen resolution is above 1366.
My question is in the commercial for windows 8 ... it showed the screen split into two and it showed the operator minimise a picture.. hw the heck do you split the screen??

However, no third-party apps seem to be compatible with this feature. Only Microsoft apps will expand to any ratios other than 80% or 20%. All third party apps will remain in the narrow 20% view even when you try to expand them to, say, take up 50% of the screen.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using win 8.1 with a 2560 x1440 resolution, but I can't seem to get split screen to work. I've tried a few tutorials online, but without success.
I can easily split the screen by left mouse clicking the top of the screen and dragging down. The first window works normally with task bar showing on the bottom, but I can't figure out how to get anything else in the 2nd window that is created. One online tutorial mentioned something about executing a mouse-over on the left or upper left corner, but that doesn't bring anything up. I can get the search/share/start/devices/settings task bar to appear by mouse-overing the upper right hand corner, but this doesn't lead to filling the second window.

I've got two SATA HDD, sadly I have not SDD , the first one contains two partitions: the first one with the OS and the second one with all the programs/games/utils I've installed in time. The second hard disk contains only datas like movies, pictures, music etc etc.
Just to be more clear, at the moment with Seven I've got C: with the operative system and D: with all software I installed in time with the two folder "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86).
As a fresh Windows 8 installation, need to maintain the double partition of the primary hdd or is it completely useless?
Just today, my desktop's been unable to boot into the login screen on Windows 8.1 due to a blue screen that appears for a split second, and forced the PC to restart. Some of this, I think, should be surely linked to the GPU, as it's left me with a black screen and loud fan noise about three of four times today. Each time I've restarted the PC, it's been able to to get back into Windows, though this time it's just giving me a BSOD that I can barely see at all.
What I'm wanting to know is how can I get it to show me the information for me to diagnose it. Could I use a shortcut on the keyboard, or will the information be saved somewhere?
The GPU I have is the XFX 7950 Core Edition.

I am wondering if there is audio management software. Similar to how if I am on Skype I can communicate through headset and hear them on the headset while the audio on iTunes by default is outputted through the speakers.
I want to play Nether and hear everything through the headset and keep music playing on the speakers so my girlfriend does not hear me play games.
Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
I have recently installed windows updates and after restart the black screen occurred after I typed my password. About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC was working fine before today, until I used Ultra UXtheme patcher for Windows 8 x64 and then applied a custom VS for Windows 8.
After a restart, Windows Explorer was not launching, so I opened task manager and did a sfc /scannow. After a reboot, I get to the Windows 8 boot menu (I have a dual-boot on this HDD with win7), and then the screen just turns on and off every few seconds, with the numlock light flickering with the screen.
I tried using the automatic repair, both from the boot menu and from a backup USB, but it does not detect anything. and I still have the same issue.
I restored the backups of uxtheme.dll, uxinit.dll, and themeui.dll, but that didn't work either.
Attached is my ntbtlog.txt.
There is no BSOD, the HDD keeps on spinning a few minutes after boot, and the numlock keeps on flashing. Anything else I can do from my win7 install? I'm currently trying to delete the theme.
Deleting the theme doesn't work, safemode doesn't work either. It seems to be a driver issue, but there were no driver updates when it was working?
I've having an issue that I think some ppl had, windows 8 crashing going to blue screen of death or blank black screen and then it restarts by itself, also I have noticed that it says repairing disk in D:/
I have one SSD 120gb in the C:/ which it host the operating system and some minnor programs, in a HDD which is my D:/ drive there I have my games.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEach time I start the computer is is necessary for me to adjust the screen resolution to cause the screen tiles to appear when clicking "start" on the right side of the screen. What am I not doing? When I open the computer the next time I adjust the screen resolution back to a different setting and the tiles come up.
Also (I'm obviously a newcomer to W. 8), I get a dialogue box each time which refers to to: "RUNDll". Something about an issue with opening something???? I click "OK" and it goes away. Appears every time I start up.
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I Restart my Laptop, the Lock Screen does not show the Welcome Screen and skips directly to the User Account login screen. Actually, it shows a darkish blue screen for a couple of seconds and then jumps to the user account login.
When I use the logout function or the shutdown (and I power it back on) everything works normally.
I have ran SFC / Scannow in windows (8.1 by the way).
Can I have icons on the Start screen that do not show up on the Apps screen ?

I'm talking about the big ones I see with the black bar, such as low battery warning.
Twice I've been on the desktop and I never got a low battery warning. To test I made sure I was on the Start screen and sure enough the warning popped up. Also, when I switched over to the desktop the battery icon showed the exclamation point where I don't think it ever did when always on the desktop.
