when in second screen all the options work axcept for the duplicate screen ,which is the screen that I want,the tv tv screen say not supported,however the extended screen and the second screen only all work ok,what can I do to get the duplicate screen option to display

New at this site and with windows 8.1, quite a change from XP. I am setting up a alienate PC and I would like to copy the start page (metro) that I have set to an additional user, I did copy my appsfolder.itemdata-ms to C:usermicrosoft....appsfolder.itemdata-ms but I still do not get the same layout or apps as mine. What I am trying is to have the same layout and apps for all users without having to re-arrange each user start screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed.The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:Users (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem. now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?
Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.
If I right click on any tile shortcut etc, I have no options for pin unpin runas uninstall whatever. Just a check mark. I'm almost certain it is a registry problem. I just do not know where to look. I had a problem with the metro file explorer not working and fixed it with a reg file for homegroup. However did not fix this problem.

The account stays open for as long as the computer is on, which is extremely frustrating. This is the biggest thing I hate about Windows 8. I mean, I click them and they wont open . And ONLY when I hit the store app , there's that startup screen of the store (you know , that animation when u enter the app) and then crash).

I find when I press the Windows key, or open the Start Screen and start typing, nothing happens. Usually the sidebar opens with search results, but recently it has stopped working completely. Also, the search charm on the sidebar, and the search button on the Windows 8.1 (update) Start Screen do not work either--when I press them, nothing happens.
At first I thought it was a Windows Search service that had stopped working, so I restarted them, but the problem persisted.
I cant get the lock screen notifications to work for mail and calendar, when I go to add them they are just greyed out and don't appear.
The only lock screen notification I have got to work is the weather but I don't know what I did to make that happen. How can I get the mail one to work.
I was initially very excited to hear that windows 8.1 allowed users to split the screen in any ratio they want (not just 80:20) in metro mode. However, no third-party apps seem to be compatible with this feature. Only Microsoft apps will expand to any ratios other than 80% or 20%. All third party apps will remain in the narrow 20% view even when you try to expand them to, say, take up 50% of the screen.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm using win 8.1 with a 2560 x1440 resolution, but I can't seem to get split screen to work. I've tried a few tutorials online, but without success.
I can easily split the screen by left mouse clicking the top of the screen and dragging down. The first window works normally with task bar showing on the bottom, but I can't figure out how to get anything else in the 2nd window that is created. One online tutorial mentioned something about executing a mouse-over on the left or upper left corner, but that doesn't bring anything up. I can get the search/share/start/devices/settings task bar to appear by mouse-overing the upper right hand corner, but this doesn't lead to filling the second window.
This is troublesome for a number of reasons.
Can't access BIOS/CMOS.
Can't go into Safemode.
And sometimes, it takes a good 30 seconds after Windows 8.1 log in screen for me to be able to use USB devices. I say USB devices, but what I really need is my keyboard and mouse. Neither work.
I recently upgraded to 8.1 (mistake) and have been having issues with my harddrive. Just today, I restarted my computer only to get a "windows failed to start" message. I went into the recovery options, and attemped a system restore (didnt work), system refresh (recovery media wasn't present), and CMD commands (chkdsk) and even sfc /scannow which I can't seem to get to run, I always get the "Will start on next boot" message, which it never does. So I attempted using an ISO with the windows 8.1 professional. Tried everything I did above, and still nothing. Refresh fails with the CD, and when i try to install a new partition, it only gives me the option of upgrading (which i cant) or reinstalling everything deleting anything in the process. I don't understand why I can't install on a new partition like I did with Windows 7.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy sister with "word" or "spreadsheet" stuff. We both had the Microsoft "Works" suite on our computers, so this was not an issue. She has Windows 7 and I had Windows XP pro, but now I have Windows 8.1. I soon found out that my old Microsoft "Works" spreadsheet would not "print" on my new Windows 8.1. It was suggested that I switch to the "LibreOffice" program. I did that. Took a while, but I converted all my previous "word" and "spreadsheets" to the "LibreOffice" program. I'm still learning how to use this program. But at least I can print those spreadsheets.
On a spreadsheet. If I send her a "LibreOffice" spreadsheet she will not be able to open it. There is absolutely, positively, not going to happen, that I can install "LibreOffice" on her computer and that she is going to learn how to use it. She uses her computer for basic stuff that she needs and that's it.
I need a program that I can install on "my" computer, that is "Windows 8.1 compatible and that then when I send her a "word or spreadsheet" she will be able to open and readily use.
Of course, if I could resolve the issue of why my "works" spreadsheet won't print on my Windows 8.1 that would solve everything. FYI, you get an error message that states: No default printer selected. Go to Control Panel and resolve.
I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 15R 7537 that came with Windows 8. Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Everything seemed to work fine after the upgrade. I shut down and re-booted several times with no issues. When I turned the computer on as usual today, I got the log in screen, then it briefly went to the desktop, then came a gray screen that blocks 99% of the desk top. This gray screen says "please wait" and has a cancel button at the bottom. It hangs forever and the cancel button doesn't work. It gives no other information.
I read several threads on the Microsoft Windows forum and this seems to be a common problem. How to boot using the Windows 8 recovery media disk that came with the Dell computer. I selected Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, then Automatic Repair. I got a message that it couldn't do an automatic repair, so that didn't work. Next I tried System Restore, but I got a message that there were no restore points available from which to restore. Just to clarify - the Recovery Media Disk I have from Dell is for Windows 8 - not 8.1 - so maybe that's the problem.
The computer is totally worthless the way it is now, so unless there is some fix for the hanging gray screen in Windows 8.1, I would be happy just to reload the original Windows 8 Operating System. At least that worked.
I've had windows 8 for a bit, but since I've installed the OS not a single one of my windows apps will work. I've tried a lot of options and none fix it. I will open up a app ( windows store app or PC settings for example) and it will open and display the icon and blown up screen then immediately minimizes and will not allow me to maximize it. I'm so tired of it! I can't download any new apps or update my old ones let alone use any of them. I ran a basic trouble shoot through Microsoft and it came up at one point saying I need a Microsoft account. which is crazy because I've put in my CD key like 50 times and registered it when I put the OS on this computer . I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.
I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly enough, when I unplugged the power cord, the HDD light flickered a little then disappeared, still no response - could be related to the PSU I suppose?
Another problem I faced before was the Windows 8.1 update failure, resulting in reverted changes, etc. I also had problems in the first few months of owning this, but found it was the incompatibility of an old antivirus that I guess didn't work too well with Windows 8 causing me to have to do a full wipe before. That was long ago. Moreover, the problems I have been experiencing have been unresponsiveness, from what I believe, are the fast boot Win 8 provides (but I turned that off), issues with Windows 8 not being able to load drivers from sleep mode upon opening the laptop (turned off automatic sleep), and now with the lock screen being stuck. I know my problems aren't detailed, but maybe these problems are linked to a bigger similar problem that people have been facing? My last bet would be to do a full factory restore/ repair, although I don't have a Windows 8 boot CD.
It's been at-least 5 months sense I've got my computer, never once have i used the app store! Every app that connects to the internet doesn't work! I've tried waiting forever, I can't even create another profile all i have is administrator.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
I have recently installed windows updates and after restart the black screen occurred after I typed my password. About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC was working fine before today, until I used Ultra UXtheme patcher for Windows 8 x64 and then applied a custom VS for Windows 8.
After a restart, Windows Explorer was not launching, so I opened task manager and did a sfc /scannow. After a reboot, I get to the Windows 8 boot menu (I have a dual-boot on this HDD with win7), and then the screen just turns on and off every few seconds, with the numlock light flickering with the screen.
I tried using the automatic repair, both from the boot menu and from a backup USB, but it does not detect anything. and I still have the same issue.
I restored the backups of uxtheme.dll, uxinit.dll, and themeui.dll, but that didn't work either.
Attached is my ntbtlog.txt.
There is no BSOD, the HDD keeps on spinning a few minutes after boot, and the numlock keeps on flashing. Anything else I can do from my win7 install? I'm currently trying to delete the theme.
Deleting the theme doesn't work, safemode doesn't work either. It seems to be a driver issue, but there were no driver updates when it was working?
I've having an issue that I think some ppl had, windows 8 crashing going to blue screen of death or blank black screen and then it restarts by itself, also I have noticed that it says repairing disk in D:/
