Key Options At The Bottom Of Welcome Screen Not Shown In Windows 8
Dec 22, 2012
One month ago, I installed Windows 8 with media center pack in HP Pavilion DV 2519tu Laptop. At the beginning it was running fine. But from last 10 days, the Key options at the bottom of welcome screen has not shown. What i think it may be due to some wrong software
I installed windows 8 on an Acer aspire 8320TG with AMD HD 6370 graphics card. This laptop is according to Acer not suitable for windows 8 but it worked. However, my screen is extended to the right and I can't switch this off. Since I don't have a second monitor I only notice this when my mouse sometimes gets lost or when I make a screenshot. I tried changing some settings in the "screen resolution" dialogue, without success. Am I just not finding the right settings for that or is it some compatibility-issue?
The taskbar at the bottom of my screen is unresponsive for the last week, despite the fact that I've shut down and restarted my pc many times. It is extremely annoying to switch between windows without the use of the taskbar; I need to go back to the desktop and click from there. I'm using Windows 8.1.
After updating my GPU driver (and I think, it failed) this red tint appeared It's only at the bottom though, it doesn't affect the whole screen.
It appears at startup and everywhere. It doesn't appear in an external monitor.
I have two graphics cards: Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M The NVIDIA is the one I updated recently.
I also tried reinstalling the NVIDIA driver but I don't know if I reinstalled it properly.
Yeah it's a laptop. A Samsung laptop.
Anyway, is this hardware related or software related? Maybe the failed installation is just a coincidence. I also have problems of ants entering my laptop so maybe they messed up the inside.
The icons on the taskbar at the bottom of my screen become distorted. They'll generate copies of themselves, overlap other icons, and the start menu button disappears. Whenever I try to click an icon, it opens the icon to its left, as if the mouse needs to be calibrated. When I open the start menu, every time I scroll my mouse across a shortcut, it disappears. Poof. Just like that. I scroll my mouse over the icons a few more times, and usually, they'll come back, but if I scroll again, they disappear once more. Thus, I'm not able to open any programs from the start menu. Additionally, my background (which I normally have cycling through a folder of wallpapers) goes completely black.
This happens without warning; sometimes I'm playing video games and it happens when I alt-tab, sometimes I'm browsing the internet and it happens randomly, once I was just looking at my screen without running any programs or tasks and it happened. It will fix itself anywhere from a span of 2 minutes to half an hour.
This just randomly happened today while I was moving around files on an external drive. This is what the first few rows of icons should look like, but it's like everything under the word "Start" was moved down and partially off the screen. I don't know how to get it back, or which process to attempt restarting (is the Start screen handled by the explorer.exe process?). Also, the right - click menu (which is usually on the bottom) is completely hidden, so I can't use any of that functionality.
when in second screen all the options work axcept for the duplicate screen ,which is the screen that I want, the tv tv screen say not supported, however the extended screen and the second screen only all work ok,what can I do to get the duplicate screen option to display
I built my PC from scratch on Friday 18th April. On the evening of 21st April I turned my PC on and saw a USB error popping up in a yellow box on the bottom right of my screen. This error was popping up every 5 se conds without fail.
I tried to uninstall the drivers for all USB ports and reinstall but this didn't work. Instead I inspected the error from my Device Manager and read this:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed." ((Port_#0011.Hub_#0003)) My USB devices
I have a Gigabyte H87 3HD Motherboard, a Nvidia GTX 760 graphics card, Intel i5 4440 Quad core processor, EVGA 650w Power Supply. I have Windows 8.1 64-bit as an OS.
With all my USB devices plugged in or without ANY plugged in, the error still pops up regardless. This leads me to believe it could be a problem with the motherboard itself.
I have tried the following solutions:
On and Off againUpdated BIOS to F6 VersionUpdated Windows 8.1Updated Chipset + all DriversWindows Hot FixesUsing CMD and NetMon to asses the USB portsSystem restore
I even right clicked on the error on the Device Manager, uninstalled and the error was still pinging up. Is my computer haunted? None of these have worked. I feel like I have exhausted all my options hence why I have named the thread as such.
I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed. The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:Users (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem. now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?
Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.
If I right click on any tile shortcut etc, I have no options for pin unpin runas uninstall whatever. Just a check mark. I'm almost certain it is a registry problem. I just do not know where to look. I had a problem with the metro file explorer not working and fixed it with a reg file for homegroup. However did not fix this problem.
I did change screen resolution and got straight away black screen with small blue box in the middle..."out of range". Yes is did the many things F8, shift F8, the only other option I am given is F11 but we upgraded to 8 so this is no option to go back to factory settings. Do not forget II have that black screen and nothing else...
I recently purchased an Asus N56VJ with Windows 8 pre-installed. At first I was trying to downgrade to Windows 7, but could not get past the windows splash screen trying to do a clean install . Anyway, while I was trying to figure out how to install windows 7, I was messing around in the bios. I decided to just stick with the Windows 8, but my bios is screwed up. I do not have any boot configuration options anymore. I tried to flash my bios, but the bios was still the same. I did a full reset on my machine, and still no change in the bios. Is there any way to get my bios options back to the factory settings with all the options?
I went into my power options to change some of the advanced settings and most of them are missing? I am on windows 8.1 with a week old Surface Pro 3. I want to say I read somewhere that hyper-v can cause options to be missing, but I honestly don't even know what that is and I don't have it installed.
Whenever i connect my internet dongle in my laptop USB port,it does not show that any hardware is plugged in or not.. Thats why i am facing problem in connecting to internet.
But the same i checked with window 7,it is showing 1 extra drive whenever hardware plugged in,The ptoblem is only with windows 8 &8.1.
When i inserted hardware in windows 7,file showing its disk drive as CDFS so i think there is some malware related to CDFS in windows 8.
Sometimes when I restart or shut down and restart my system, the folder option somehow are being changed. I have to go to the folder options in control panel and reset the options to default. this will correct the condition until the next time restarted. I believe the condition existed before the update from 8 to 8.1 ....
I did a very successful overclock, taking my processor from 3.3 Ghz to 4.7 Ghz. I can verify that in CPU-Z but it's not showing up in Windows Systems properties. What do I have to do for Windows to recognize the overclock?
Just installed a fresh copy of windows 8.1 Pro. Faster, smoother more practical. However, i just made a new account (microsoft) and i installed this one app. I did not like it very much so I uninstalled. However, when i log in at my market and browse to my apps, under the Apps installed in device Sotxxxxx it shows that very app there, saying at the bottom "Not installed". What can i do? This app is also shown under Apps not installed in this device. I was thinking about deleting the current account, as i use different e-mail provider and create it again with same username.
A week ago, i turned on my laptop and discovered that my sound wasnt working. I cheaked the sound menu, it told my that the speakers were not plugged in. I looked in the recording menu which told me my build in mic was not plugged in.
I was able to have sound by plugging my laptop into my tv with a HDMI lead.
I got fed up with a slow laptop and no sound so i decided to reset my laptop, when the reset was finished my mic and speakers worked. I turned it off and when i woke up i turned it back on to find my mic and speaker was "not plugged in". All my drivers are up to date and i have no updates to do.
I just noticed my contacts from my Live account are not the same as the ones shown in my Windows 8 mail app (People). Looking closer at the properties in my phone, I noticed that some say Hotmail and other say Verizon Backup Assistant Plus.
My question is how do I get all the ones backed up by Verizon but included in my Live account so show up on my desk top(Hotmail Type)? How can I convert the contact type from Verizon to Live?
I have a problem with SkyDrive. Windows 8 is now using OneDrive, but I still have the SkyDrive icon shown in Explorer on my computer. When I try to open or delete it, it does not work. What should I do?
About two weeks ago when I right-clicked in the bottom-left corner there would be a menu that would pop up. Now it just moves my mouse a little bit and dosen't do anything.
This menu was really useful...It held things like My Computer, Run, Command Prompt etc.
I updated to the windows 8.1 preview but it was working when I did that. about a week after I got the preview it did this.
When I'm in file explorer and click on My Pictures, it shows all my libraries. I don't want it to do this. This does not occur when accessing any other library.
I just installed a pretty clean install of Windows 8 Pro (I used the upgrade, but I did the upgrade immediately over top of a clean windows 7 install). It is installed on an intel SSD. I haven't installed any applications or added any documents, or files. However, when I go to file explorer and right click on my drive it shows that I've used 69GB of space on the SSD! That's after doing disk cleanup and removing the previous windows files and temporary upgrade files. I couldn't believe Windows was taking up 69GB, so I investigated further. If I select the drive in file explorer and then select every folder displayed, and then right click and select properties, then it only comes up as about 13GB. Is there a known problem with Windows 8 computing space useage on SSD drives?
I was using the computer, when the power went out for like half a second, the computer ended up restarting, and while starting up, the power went out. When the power came back, I wasn't able to get past the Blue window's icon with a swirly loop on the bottom.
I've created a repair install thing and placed it on a flashdrive, and I've booted from it and tried to do system restore. After around 4-5 hours, a blue screen pops up and said something about window's encountering an error. (Too fast to catch what else it may of said)
What can I do to make my computer work again? Should I try to do another system restore. Also how long does it take to boot from the flashdrive? It takes me around 1 hour. Is it supposed to take so long?
Lately I have observed that whenever I connect my computer through WiFi, I see various other devices visible under 'my computer', like network gateway, mobile phones, and other devices.
Is it because the network settings had network visibility option checked 'on'.
Also, would that mean someone may have accessed the files on my computer.
I want to know who else can access my computer through the same WiFi that I am connected to.
I have an external hard and the folders in it are shown empty while they are full, but the folder inside them are shown correctly. I attached 2 images :
Is it possible that virus cause this problem? It's actually impossible cause I have KIS2013 and it is updated.
I just upgraded Win 8 on my Acer Iconia W3 Tablet (x86) to Windows 8.1. But now I have the problem that in the settings-app and in the righten menu (e.g. the search-function) every text is just a white (or sometimes black) box. In other Apps and on the desktop-applications the text is displayed correctly; and before I have installed Windows 8.1 everything was fine too. Below are two screenshots which should describe the problem.
